  • I grew up in the circus, but by the time I left my real job in 2023, I'd been living in the "normal world" for a looooooong time. Here's a little story of how I ran away from the circus to go join and an office and then ran away again.

Well as someone who apparently listened to Jack for years on WBUR and who had NO IDEA he was also Jacques Ze Whipper, I can personally attest to his acting ability and capability to get into character.
Also, while I'm sure his show has improved and been refined through the years, this was a lesson for me in how much fantastic talent goes unrecognized, cast aside unwittingly by people who would make a fortune if they took a chance on someone.
Thanks for sharing your story, getting us through the pandemic, and making us laugh.

My son now gets upset with me because I'm constantly trying to talk my 2 yr old grandson into joining the circus someday. I think everyone should work as either a circus performer or in the carnival. It can be so awesome! You do a wonderful job! Much respect from East Texas 💖💖💖

At the age of 29, I ran away and joined a Circus. That was in the mid 90s. Best adventure and learning experience I ever had. It was one of the last one ring tent circuses in the country at the time. It closed down 2 years later. Circuses are a wonderous part of history. We are blessed to be a part of that history. Thank you for your story. It reminded me of better days and rich adventure.

As someone who lives in Maryland but is going to start in college in Boston, this is so annoying. I only found out about him this winter, so I wouldn't have known to see him at last year's renn faire, and I'm pretty sure I'll have to move in before this year's renn faire. I'd assumed that I would at least be able to see him at KRF but apparently not. Why did they let him go? (If you're allowed to say)

And what sucks most us they're my local Faire. Easiest to get to and the one I'd like to support. But I can't if they keep pulling this crap. Who is left there orth going to see at this point.

Life is such a crazy thing. I went to college initially for biology. Hated it and changed to Business and Poli Sci. Sadly, due to financial issues and family members with health problems, I never got to finish my degree. I eventually got a job at a bank and worked there for 9yrs. When my first child turned one, I became a SAHM. That's been 8yrs now. I had always put off my true hobby and passion as just a fun thing to do on the side, but I'm embracing it now. So at 40yrs old, I'm working on and nearly finished writing my first book. My goal is to have it completed and hopefully published this year. I don't even care if it becomes a best seller (though that would be amazing!) I'm just happy to accomplish this goal and to show my children that they should never give up on their dreams and you never know what life has in store for you!

We missed you at the Texas Scarborough RenFaire last month. My family couldn't brave that Saturday rain, but we thought we'd see you on Sunday. So did (apparently) 10,000+ other people who were looking to take advantage of some good weather. The line just to turn onto the street that should be the "line" was backed up over two miles, so we made the regrettable decision to try another weekend. My kids were terribly disappointed (we've seen your show several times in previous years and their love for your show is quite organic, as they are young enough to not have TikTok). I can't believe I just spent 15 mins sitting here, just listening to you talk! But you have such an entertaining way of storytelling, a voice like "budda", and handsome to boot! You should name your podcast, "Enjoy the Ride!" :)
I can relate. I've spent most of my career in middle management disability services but two years ago, I quit a well-paying job because the stress was literally killing me (I could feel it) and became a full-time self-employed ASL interpreter (I'd always worked it as a part-time side gig). BEST DECISION I'VE EVER MADE CAREER-WISE!! *I* determine my schedule, I decide what jobs to take or not take, I can take a day off if I want although that's sometimes the hardest thing to do as there's a lot of demand out there for what I do. I am my own boss! And I still make a good living doing it! Doing what you love or at least enjoy is THE most important thing career-wise. Glad you found yours!

I wish you could come out to The Original Renaissance Pleasure Faire in Irwindale, California, in the future. I volunteer there in St Ives Guild. I have enjoyed going to this faire since the 1970's in the Agoura Hills, California. Your quality of performance shines and gives enjoyment to many people including me. Glad I found your video/vlogs on Utube..... Hello 👋🏻 from Southern California 🌴😊

I went to school for archaeology and in my country you can easily get a job, but working your way up is a lot of hard work and even before finishing school I realized I didnt feel excited to do that. And the negatives of the job made me lose a lot of excitement for archaeology as a whole. I did however fall in love with something I never thought I would like: data analysis. I loved nothing more than taking the results of an excavation and analyzing them, but I found it really annoying how much of it end up coming down to interpretation and how often you lack a big enough data pool to really say anything of value, so a career in data analysis it is. And as a bonus there is way more money in it lol.

Never be afraid of change. Like Jacques here, I, too, changed careers mid stream - or in my case, when I should have been thinking of retiring. After many years of working in the communications/management fields, I finished an Associates degree to jump start a new dream. At 56, I accepted a job with a Defense Contractor as a Systems Engineer - and I couldn't be happier!

So true life is a journey and you never know where it is going to take you. I feel very happy for poeple who do theyr living with something they like to do. If work is fun its less work. I am living in Germany and we have a different school system than the US if you want to go to a College (Universität) you have to have Abitur (special kind of school examina). Normaly your are 19 when you finish. I started with 32 and fineshed with 35 and went than to college. Did not work out as planed, sadly. But I am happy I tryed.

Really interesting to hear about your journey and how you got where you are now! Thank you for sharing!
I'm curious on how you travel, eat, and budget while doing shows. Obviously you are now making a living doing this and that is fantastic for you! Curious how one "lives as" since it is not something most people think about or when they do they think things like "they live in a trailer and don't have a house" (which by the background you have a house).
I don't think I've seen you at my ren faire (AZ has Adam, who I think you've worked with) but YT was like "hey! You like ren faire? Here's this stuff!" and you have been in my feed and your show looks great.
