Had Suikoden 1 and 2 given to me by my best friend growing up. Eventually my entire classic game collection was stolen and I sadly lost this gem, but out of all the other countless amazing PS1 games I had S1 and S2 are by far my favorite and most missed. Thanks for the video and the breakdown of its in's and outs.
"You'll be relying on inns to revive characters." Just a quick note, because I'm not sure if you knew this, but you can use Medicine or Mega Medicine on party members that had fainted after a fight ends. It works even if they have 0 HP.
Thanks for the walk down memory lane. I remember that manual being what sold young me on memory cards as before that I had mostly been a fighting game player. I am so excited for the remasters coming out, I'm hoping so many of my friends can now get past the nostalgic jank that I don't mind but can put off newer gen players.
My biggest gripe is the number of required characters, which is intentional for story elements, but it limited experimentation with so many cool characters but would be too risky taking up a pivotal slot that is better suited for a power house character
PS1 introduced me (already a huge CRPG nerd by way of games like the Bard's Tale and Eye of the Beholder series) to JRPGs... wasted a lot of money renting Vandal Hearts, Suikoden and Breath of Fire 3 multiple times to eventually beat them. FF7 didn't interest me, I always preferred the 2D sprite art of the above games and I think that style has aged much better than the early 3D FF games (FFX on PS2 on the other hand still looks amazing!).
I loved both Suikoden games on PS1. I can't count the times I beat it with my brother and loading saves from 1 to 2.

Pretty sure I knew this, but for whatever reason I completely blanked on this when writing the script. Thank you!

My favorite series of all time

I can't believe someone is playing Beyond the Beyond. No body barely remember that game existence.

Yes. Beyond the Beyond was grindy crap. Suikoden was a great game to bide time while FF7 was being worked on.
