28:00 I still say Chrono Trigger is the best 16-bit score ever written. As much as I love Uematsu and his work from FF6, this soundtrack is only a few tiny steps short of absolute perfection. And, even as a grown-ass man, "To Far Away Times" still makes me tear up damn near every time I listen to it. Schala's Theme, Magus' boss music, the main theme and its 2 sister songs (Guardia Forest and the World Map), Frog's Theme, *Corridors of freaking Time* ... there are just so many iconic masterpieces here it's hard to believe they all came from a single game.
The only video game OST that I personally feel is superior to Chrono Trigger? Xenogears, obviously. Which was also composed by Mitsuda, and the reasons why I like both are very similar. Xenogears feels like a more grown-up, less bombastic take on similar sonic ideas, more solidly rooted in celtic/folk influences.

Chrono Trigger was a staple of my childhood, and i will never forget it. The music, the story, the nostalgic memories that i got from it. It's perfect.
I think it’s fascinating that people who weren’t even born when this came out, love it so much. I was lucky to be 13 in 1995 and this game dominated my life for a year. I still play it every year or so. Great video!
Me either, everytime I see a new one I know it will have ZERO new information for me but I watch it anyways because I like when people take the time to talk about this game.
@@jasonberezowski2869 I really don't know how to capture it in words. Homie does as good a job as one can do. I discovered it at the age of 37. It made me feel like a kid again. Literally brings me to tears.
As a teenager we all had chrono trigger, secret of Evermore and earthbound, we would take time after school to discuss what we found and then to back to playing lmao, sometimes doing group sessions
Haha yeah. I affectionately called Chrono Trigger, Earthbound, and Secret of Evermore than "1995-1996 Trifecta." I was smack in the middle of junior high at the time. Everyone else around me played fighting games, mostly Mortal Kombat 3. I was there too. Was damn good at it also. But I always went back to the trifecta.
I played the rom hack "Schala Edition" which is the only hack I've played that I think improves on the original. It adds an entirely new quest where Magus goes looking for Schala across new islands in 10,000 BC. The author did a great job making it feel like a unique side quest and there are some really cool ideas in it. It's also not super tedious and feels very satisfying after playing the original so many times, where she is lost in time. Obviously the events in Chrono Cross were created to answer the Schala question, but as far as completing the original game in a satisfying way, I very much recommend Schala Edition as a must-play for anyone who wants the core experience with a clean-up and fresh take. There are additional changes that some may not like, but it's all very well done and doesn't really change too much of the experience. I really love that version of the game.
Scenario, characters, weapons, secrets, enigmatic challenges, thrilling moments during the adventure. This quest has everything! A perfect game to me. 💯
Good video! Also just want to say that Sakaguchi can be credited for the fantastic pacing, he has a method to it that he explains in an interview with the ResonantArc yt channel where he would be like this cutscene is going on too long and he marks the script with a letter and such!
This is an excellent retrospective on my absolute favorite game of all time. Thank you for all of your hard work. ❤❤❤❤ This is my first of your videos. I am instantly subscribing. I can’t wait to see what all you have and what is to come!
19:45 When I first played this game I was definitely shocked when Crono was killed. I was like, they actually killed off the main character?!?!🤯 Now that I think about, is Chrono Trigger the first video game to do this?
I’m glad you mentioned the irony of Lavos being the savior of humanity. It reminds me of a conversation in Chrono Cross where the chief dwarf accuses humanity of being “unnatural” and “freaks”. Some of the demi-beings make statements about why humanity can’t live symbiotically with nature. It’s in Chrono Trigger that you realize humanity was never meant to survive and that Earth (highly implied to be sapient) planned for the Reptites to inherit the planet. Consider that Earth goes through an ice age. Lavos is blamed but I think that it was actually Earth trying to kill humanity but is, again, thwarted by Lavos. Consider that the Earth warms up after the Ocean Palace arc and Lavos premature awakening. This time, Lavos deliberately intervenes and saves humanity once again because Lavos has a purpose for humanity. The people of Zeal revered Lavos like a god and for greater reason than just granting them magic. Lavos is their (humanity’s) savior even if the Zealians themselves don’t know it. Humans capable of magic are an anathema to Earth since humanity’s ability to use magic is because of Lavos. An abomination that combines Earth’s rejected species now infused by this parasitic alien. In part, humans are an extension of Lavos and whose behavior and exploitation of the planet for greed all reflect this. The Chrono series truly is a marvelous fiction.
Oh my god you're totally right, Robo Rick-rolled us in the past/future and I can't handle this. !! This was a fantastic video, thanks so much for making it! I sadly hadn't realized that about Schala and Magus' theme, that is so amazing.
I'm a *huge* _Chrono_ _Cross_ fan, but it might as well be a stand-alone game. It's a sequel in execution -- in that there are lots of things you can miss if you don't explore the game's world -- but the story has ridiculously little to do with _Chrono_ _Trigger_ and where there are ties they feel shoehorned in.
Great breakdown! This is game is amazing and one of my all time favorites. I was 14 back in 95' and while I still do a playthrough every couple years, that first run was special. Can't wait for my kids to experience it as well. Subscribed!
good video, and well said. it is the only game so perfect that adding to it actually detracts from it. the snes version remains the best, and always will.
The PlayStation version's ten-second load times are unacceptable in a game that originally had none. I'll eventually have a video about that version too.
I hear rumors of a remake and even though this is my favorite game, I hesitate to celebrate any forthcoming announcements about it. It's already perfect. The graphics, even though they are from the mid 90's, are perfect for the game. The only thing I think I would welcome is an orchestral score to replace the original SNES score...but I even hesitate to say that, because hearing that little SNES belt out those songs was absolutely amazing! What Mitsuda did with the SNES hardware is a freaking miracle.
My favorite game of all time. I still play it today and listen to the soundtrack all the time while working and driving. The game is amazing. I've beat it so many times on my Super Nintendo, my character levels are maxed out with stars instead of numbers. You can do this if you keep beating it with the same save file. It lets you do an easy relaxing play-through with powerful characters that can eventually win battles in one hit. I also play it on my 2DS-XL, and I can't wait for a remake or re-release on the switch. I heard game director Yoshinori Kitase is considering it now. NOTE: I saw in a recent video that Mitsuda said that he's done the music for several games now, but views Chrono Trigger as his best work 😎
Yamcha, Puar, Oolong, Tien Shinhan, Chaotzu, Piccolo Jr, Vegeta, Buu. There’s a few more bad to good arcs than just four. Dragonball is all about redemption through kind patience and strong rivalry. EDIT: Nice video, BTW! 😁 Chrono Trigger is absolutely one of my favorite games. The attention to detail is astronomical. Everything has a purpose and everyone has a story to tell!
I love that if you ask fans to sum up this game about time travel in a single word, you will typically be answered with "timeless." Cool. Coolcoolcool.
Chrono Trigger is the best RPG game of the 16 bit system. It probably in the top 5 for best RPG game of all time in my opinion. The sound track still gets used today in some videos I see on TH-cam here. I know Teamfour star have used it in some of DBZA episodes.
Never played it when I was a kid, though I only heard great things. Kept hearing about it and watched some videos about it on youtube and finally last year I figured out how to play it on an emulator. Played it mostly blind and I loved it. Immediately played it again with a guide to get stuff I knew I had missed, loved it even more. Immediately played it a third time to get all the endings and couldn't love it more. Bummed I missed out for so long but it really shows how good a game it is to hold up so well 30 years later and still give an adult that childish wonder, whimsy and enjoyment, though I've always loved time travel so I'm sure I'm a bit biased in that aspect. 10/10 game imo
OMG!!! Magus Theme is Schala's Theme???? I never noticed that.... when I thought this game couldn't be even more genius... what a masterpiece.... every gamer on earth should play this game
I 100% agree that Chrono Trigger is, if not a perfect game, then at least a perfect JRPG. My only gripe with Chrono Trigger is that there wasn't enough of it. The pacing is perfect, and all the side quests were great, but what I would give for there to be more of the same so I can exist in this world and play the game more. At this point, after first finding and playing this game in the 6th-7th grade back in '97-'98, I have played through everything this game has to offer multiple times over and still to this day I want more of it. Great video and great game. I've watched countless reviews and retrospectives for Chrono Trigger, and much like the game itself, I can't get enough of hearing other people's opinions and experiences
Great review. I also really like the Takashi Tokita appreciation. I love FF4 and its tight pacing and story execution. And after playing Live A Live, the man has a knack for great and concise stories.
I'm glad to hear that. On one hand, I'm surprised by how little I've seen people talking about Tokita in regards to this game, but then again, video game staff do tend to go underappreciated unless they're one of the really big industry names (Miyamoto, Kojima, etc.).
14:05 I agree, the pacing of Chrono Trigger is basically perfect. By contrast, people often point out that the pacing of Chrono Cross is at the very least, flawed, if not outright bad. But, it's been theorized that during the development of the game, which was happening at the same time as Final Fantasy 8, the head of the FF8 project intentionally changed the story beat pacing of Chrono Cross so that it would not outshine FF8... Imagine if that didn't happen, and we had a better paced Chrono Cross...
The game has acts, and musical structure. There is a reason certain games like ff4 and Chrono trigger are popular in orchestra performances- they are set up like musical plays. And the big thing about Chrono Trigger, is your choices make you feel like you matter.
CT is my fav game of all time. that said its by no means perfect. for instance the grandfather paradox they introduce early on contradicts time travelers immunity. so a plot hole exists.
I got this game for my 8th birthday... and hated it. I'd never played an RPG before, so the menus didn't make sense to me. After I loaned it to my friend Justin and watched him play it a bit, I tried it again and loved it. It's so good that it ruined all other JRPGs for me. I got right to the end of FF4 and FF7 and just didn't care enough to finish them. Also, this is the only CT video that actually showed me something I didn't know, being the Magus/Schala music matching up, so good job!
Chrono Trigger is one of my favorite games of all time, it’s not too long or too short, it’s just the right length for an RPG, I remember first being introduced to Crono himself in Super Smash Flash in the mid 2000s and thought “Wow that character looks really cool! Reminds me of Goku!” Fast forward to 2010 I would first play Chrono Trigger on the DS and immediately fell in love with the game and would do multiple playthroughs trying to get every ending, if I’m not mistaken wasn’t Chrono Trigger one of the first games to have a “New Game+” feature? That could be seen as innovative especially if you want to try and get other endings or even beat the game as soon as starting from the very beginning, Chrono Trigger is just phenomenal and is one of my top 25 games in no particular order, even Vinny Vinesauce loves Chrono Trigger and did a playthrough of it earlier this year 2024 and finished it right as the very sad news came on Akira Toriyama’s passing, thank you for everything Toriyama-San🙏
GOAT SNES game. I was obsessed with FF3 and Squaresoft so I saved all my allowance and grabbed Chrono Trigger the week it was released. Everything about it Absolutely blew my 14 year old mind.
Looking back, Chrono Trigger really was a perfect game. It didn't have... annoying random fights that pester you every 2 tiles you walk. From the characters, over the time zones to the bosses and the music, especially the "wind" you have in many tracks. New Game+ was awesome. 36:09 Magus was not evil. All he wanted was to bring back his sister shala. I didn't like Chrono Cross as much, though it also has very emotional moments. I think I need to go and play Chrono Trigger one more time, again. Looking at modern games, with their DEI infested cast of characters... Chrono Trigger was where it was at it's best.
@GamingintheAM0801 Hello. I enjoyed your video. Your thoughts Echo mine and I have lots of experience like you playing at numerous times. The final song that plays at the end is definitely one of my favorites ever since I first heard it on that SNES all those years ago. I would sometimes replay the ending just to hear that song again. Then I ordered, what was hard to come by at the time, the CDs from overseas so I could listen to the music when I wanted to. I totally understand your love and passion for it. I have only one critique of your whole video and I noticed you've been doing this for 9 years which explains why you have a natural Comfort at this point when doing the video. The speech is eloquent and precise which brings me to the critique.. overall your entire video is very family friendly but, I don't know if you even consciously know you're doing this as, I have friends I've grown up with that until it was pointed out, it never even was something they consciously noticed they were doing. The three instances of blasphemy.. instead of just saying damn it or some other substitution but invoking God prior for a very commonly heard cuss word that we have heard in our Hollywood movies and shows and even video games if they are rated anything above PG was disappointing. I know you dropped the phrase BS toward the end and that didn't even bother. Swearing in general doesn't bother me it's strictly just that particular vernacular and type of swearing and, as a gamer I appreciate it how you chose to go about describing everything I can see myself enjoying other videos but, I'm humbly making a request that just to make your video even more enjoyable across even larger audience if you would consciously make an effort to find a different cuss word? Or just stick with dammit and leave that out of it? I don't know what the perfect solution for you. When I was younger I would occasionally say Jesus as a substitute for some expletive or probably once in a blue moon he's so frustrated I would drop GD but something about it every time made the incredibly uncomfortable and the last time I remembered saying it was approximately '08 or '09. It's just felt like the only way to properly express my anger and yet immediately afterwards I felt like.. I had screwed up. And I can't live your life for you, I don't know you at all, I don't even know if I've seen other videos of yours before. But has somebody that immediately felt a connection with you and your video, and if my request is not something that it's going to immediately taken has something offensive, it would be awesome if that little alteration was something you were willing to do. And if not, obviously, I'm just one drop in an infinite sea of potential eyeballs to see your content. But I felt personally compelled for whatever reason to reach out to you with this comment. I don't typically bother, oftentimes I'll just turn the video off if I hear it repeatedly. But, I don't know, something felt a little different here and I thought it was worth that opportunity to reach out to you. Thanks for taking the time to read this, good luck and take care
I would expand some of the characters in a minor way, like more time with Magus and what not. I also would like to see a more expansion to help lead into chrono cross, though a tie in to cross should be a sequel.
It’s insane that Crono and link to the past are so good despite being a few megabytes. There are 200 gb games that aren’t able to get as much story or fun to the gamer as something like this
One thing I never understood about when people talk about Chrono Trigger is why they pronounce Mar-Le as Mar-El. Aside from that great job and I still love this game, would love to see a PS4 release with all the DS content included. Still have my PS1 copy, too bad the loading times are terrible. I heard that in Japan FF4 had the terrible Loading times and Chrono Trigger loaded fast.
I played the DS port and I agree with you wholeheartedly. The core game is basically perfect. No grinding, great pacing, etc. The DS exclusive dungeon/town actively makes the game worse. It's repetitive (you run back and forth through the new area like 8 times with no differences) and was the only part of the game I didn't enjoy.
I've really only gotten to the music section so far but I wanted to thank you for pronouncing Schala's name correctly. I'm not sure why people take sch and turn it into sk when those letter sounds do not make a hard K sound and it bugs me to no end.
I’m playing Chrono Trigger for the first time (and loving it!) because of Chained Echoes, which I love só much it’s already on my top 5 favorite games. PS: brasileiro? 😄
My first thought of the flaws of Chrono Trigger stem solely from the ports of the game on anything other than the original SNES version, examples include the PSone's long load times where you're waiting up to 5-6 seconds of black screen between menus... the only other port for the longest time was the DS port, and I don't have any real gripes with that one, it's great, but it's not quite pixel perfect, so the misaligned pixels don't work for me, it always bugged me, but then again, it's from the SNES generation, pixel perfect was not the intended aspect ratio to begin with... other than that thought, for the longest time it wasn't on anything else, so the game was unfortunately not very accessible... I just wish they remade Chrono Trigger in the same way they remade Final Fantasy IV or something... then in more recent years we finally got another port, but it was a god awful Android port, which eventually made it's way onto Steam, and due to mismanagement, it launched as is with all the awful changes present in the Android port... they did eventually address and fix the issues, and the PC version of the game is now one of the best available, but it's a disgrace that the PC port of this legendary of a title was released in this terrible of a state in the first place... I'll never understand it... and as it stands, the PC port is still just the 2D version of the game anyway, so the best way to play this game is still pretty much the same as if you booted up an emulator and played the original... :/ Unfortunately, the original is not the version many people opt to play, as the DS version added new content that you would otherwise be missing out on, so the DS or PC ports are still the best versions to play in many people's opinions... we'll just take what we can get I suppose~ :/ This game is criminally underrated by Square Enix, it's bizarre how this game has flown under the radar for so long and how they refuse to really do anything with it... with the new Dragon Quest III HD-2D remake coming out though, I feel like Toriyama's art style works very well with that type of remake, so I'm holding out hope that the Octopath team tackles this legendary title as well~ :9
What I didn't like about it was that there's lots of endings which feels a bit overwhelming and makes me think I should try to get them all which takes too much time. I played it until the end when it first came out but remember not being able to get into the New Game + stuff (and I think this was the first time we saw that term?) and thought it was a pretty big ask to replay a whole rpg for 37 different endings or whatever. Aside from that it's pretty cool, yes.
There's 12 endings, and which one you get just depends on how soon you defeat the final boss. It doesn't take that long to get all the endings when your characters are all Level 99 and you can get most of the endings in the game's first 2-3 hours. New Game + is one of the best things about this game.
@@GamingintheAM0801 Well, I haven't really replayed it since the first time I played it. Don't get me wrong, I thoroughly enjoyed the first playthrough. I just remember feeling annoyed that there were so many endings that I never really went back to it since I'd have to go look up stuff to get them all. Maybe that's it, actually. If I just play naturally I don't know which ending I'll get and if I use a walkthrough it's not very fulfilling. I remember finding several of those Lavos warps on my own, but I don't think the game tells you if you've completed all of them or not, right? I'll give it another run one day, it's definitely a cool game. I was always very happy to have it in my collection. I still have my SNES cart.
Yeah, unfortunately the game doesn't keep track of which endings you've gotten. The PS1 version does, and I believe the DS versions as well, but I wouldn't recommend the PS1 version over the original (the load times are unacceptable).
I can only think of few games that I considere perfect or near perfect, Chrono Trigger (even with how cryptic some puzzle or solutions can be). Xenoblade Chronicles 2 (even with the gatcha mechanics in blades, it gives you a different experience every time). And Bloodbourne (even with the Chalis dungeon, that can be repetitive but it's extra content for an action game).
Well for one thing, getting the dream team back is now impossible with Toriyama's passing. Being one of the most famous JRPG title, there's no small amount of pressure put on the development team if they were to entertain the idea of a remake, even a minor mistake could end up souring a whole generation of players, and no one wants to be held responsible for ruining a classic, not exactly a bright spot on anyone's career in the game development industry. Square Enix never should have canned Chrono Resurrection, they're just jealous that some fans were making a high quality work with their IP and they're not getting a piece of the action, or they're just not fond of fans stealing their thunder.
The audio has been my biggest issue with these videos. I simply have no idea how to mix things properly. If anyone has any suggestions, I'd love to learn!
@@GamingintheAM0801 You probably just need a better microphone. In a y case, great video, I played Earthbound for the first time and then Chrono Trigger as I was looking to see what the hype was about these games. They quickly became two of my all time favorites. Would you please do a video on Earthbound? Thanks!
I bought a podcast mic when I decided to start making videos, and it's still pretty new. Maybe I'll look into what I can do to improve the quality of the recordings. And I've actually already done a video about EarthBound! It's in the playlist linked at the end of the video.
Immediate like due to the respect paid to CT. Though, I have a few things to say about the video itself. 10:26 This is a HUGE stretch. "I want you to behave yourself today." is such a normal thing for a mother to say to her son that I guarantee you 90% of first-time players of Chrono Trigger didn't even pay attention to it, and thus were surprised by the Trial when it came up. 15:24 This is blatantly false, though I can see how a first-time player would think this. You don't visit 12,000 BC until after you defeat Magus for the first time. Though the bit about getting to spend time with every mandatory playable character is true.
Point 1) I will stand by my theory that the line was written to have these two meanings. The very fact that it is "just something a mother would say" is why it works so well as subtle foreshadowing. Point 2) I'll admit I could have worded that segment better. Approached from the perspective of a first-time player, 12K BC does come off as something of a twist. By the time you've fought Magus, the game has already started repeating eras in the story (you've gone to 600 AD twice by that point), and so it makes sense for people to assume you'd seen everything and that the game was now reaching its final stretch. Blame this on my attempt to keep the video's script (somewhat) consice -- the original draft was easily twice as long.
not only will it be, its already happened multiple times. Don't get me wrong, I love Chrono Trigger, but there are better JRPGs out there. Trials of Mana (the newer version, not the original) being one of them. As far as the franchise itself - Chrono Cross would have been a much better game if they didn't try to force it in as a sequel to CT, and instead made a completely new thing with it... and Chrono Cross is WHY we never got a 3rd game. I really do hope they reboot this series like they did with Secret of Mana (and FF7R... but closer to the original game, and not rehauled into an action RPG with a different, but similar story), and this time give us a real sequel. Though, Chrono Trigger does good on it's own too, as the only thing they don't resolve is splitting a time line by stopping Chrono's death before it happens... which they wouldn't have done if he hadn't. They really have a blank check with how they could approach it, doing something similar to Zelda - say have Chrono Cross be the sequel of the timeline where you save Chrono, and another game where it's a sequel if you don't.
It's not a criticism I 100% agree with, either, but from what I've seen, it's the only aspect of the game that really sees any criticism these days. You get used to them after a while and you can remap them all, but the default button configuration is generally considered pretty awful. Having to press Select to cycle through your weapons just isn't very elegant, for instance. I do have a Super Metroid video in this playlist. It's one of my favorite games.
Chrono Trigger, Secret of mana, Vagrant Story, Chrono cross, FF 4-9, Xenogears, Legend of Dragoon, Breath of Fire, Tales of Destiny, Symphonia and Dragon quest 5,6 and 7... So many great RPGs back then... Most of them from square soft. Man I miss the company so much. 😢
you've got good taste. I'd add earthbound, illusion of gaia, zelda: a link to the past, and lunar 2. lufia 2 and terranigma were also good, but never finished them.
@@GamingintheAM0801 i will buy chained echoes for you right now. out of all of the games that seek to revive that 90s feeling jrpg i feel its gotten so much further than say, sea of stars, which its often compared to. please when you have tike play it soon

Any video that acknowledges the legendary greatness of Chrono Trigger automatically gets a like. It's a masterpiece of art.

This is my first of your videos. I am instantly subscribing. I can’t wait to see what all you have and what is to come!
19:45 When I first played this game I was definitely shocked when Crono was killed. I was like, they actually killed off the main character?!?!🤯
Now that I think about, is Chrono Trigger the first video game to do this?
But despite HIS death ((Toriyama) the LAST time it was remastered was on the DS in 2008 so THAT version needs a PS4 Switch PS5 PORT of it.
True
I have it.
It's awesome.
TRUTH, ITS THE BEST VERSION
The music plays a huge part of the storyline and atmosphere.
Oh my god you're totally right, Robo Rick-rolled us in the past/future and I can't handle this. !! This was a fantastic video, thanks so much for making it! I sadly hadn't realized that about Schala and Magus' theme, that is so amazing.
I just wish that the Schala and Magus thing was completed.
It was, just in chronocross
I'm a *huge* _Chrono_ _Cross_ fan, but it might as well be a stand-alone game. It's a sequel in execution -- in that there are lots of things you can miss if you don't explore the game's world -- but the story has ridiculously little to do with _Chrono_ _Trigger_ and where there are ties they feel shoehorned in.
I just wish Schala didn't get shafted by her creators.
@@blast_processing6577 I disagree. I've grown to love Cross as a sequel. Although I respect your opinion as it used to be mine.
The PS version added cut scenes and nothing else. It was perfect.
The PlayStation version's ten-second load times are unacceptable in a game that originally had none. I'll eventually have a video about that version too.
@@CobaltContrast the cut scenes broke the flow of the game.
@@CobaltContrast And some of those cutscenes give the game tie-ins to Chrono Cross, making the PS version the second-worst version of the game. Pass.
I did say "at LEAST four." 😉
I was mainly thinking about Yamcha, Tenshinhan, Piccolo, and Vegeta.
I love that if you ask fans to sum up this game about time travel in a single word, you will typically be answered with "timeless."
Cool. Coolcoolcool.
Chrono Trigger is the best RPG game of the 16 bit system. It probably in the top 5 for best RPG game of all time in my opinion. The sound track still gets used today in some videos I see on TH-cam here. I know Teamfour star have used it in some of DBZA episodes.
this was a pretty informative and cool video, great job!
One more for the algorithm. It's about time yall.
Awesome Video! You made me want to pick up the game :D
Do it!
There’s a deep sadness in Singing Mountain; I always thought they should have used the track for the Mountain of Woe and/or Death Peak.
Death Peak would be absolutely perfect for it.
Great video!
So many fond memories of this game.
The game has acts, and musical structure.
There is a reason certain games like ff4 and Chrono trigger are popular in orchestra performances- they are set up like musical plays.
And the big thing about Chrono Trigger, is your choices make you feel like you matter.
And wouldn't you know it, Takashi Tokita has a background in theater! I brought this up in my FF4 video. I'm telling ya, he's the secret ingredient.
CT is my fav game of all time. that said its by no means perfect.
for instance the grandfather paradox they introduce early on contradicts time travelers immunity. so a plot hole exists.
Such a good game, and this was a great analysis! Subbed :)
Can't agree more
Could disagree less
I got this game for my 8th birthday... and hated it. I'd never played an RPG before, so the menus didn't make sense to me. After I loaned it to my friend Justin and watched him play it a bit, I tried it again and loved it. It's so good that it ruined all other JRPGs for me. I got right to the end of FF4 and FF7 and just didn't care enough to finish them. Also, this is the only CT video that actually showed me something I didn't know, being the Magus/Schala music matching up, so good job!
Ddue this game is my all time favorite and I think you did it a great justice in the way you spoke about it. Instaint sub!
I live this game and I loved your video. Great job.
Chrono Trigger isn't a JRPG or a video game. It is a beautiful story that you get to participate in, a dream in a cartridge...it is beautiful art.
Best game ever !!! Literally only game I have on my phone ! I play it till this day getting everyone to lvl 99
It's not perfect but it's not damable. Late game fights revolve too much on nukes and gold stubs trivialize the MP costs.
I would expand some of the characters in a minor way, like more time with Magus and what not. I also would like to see a more expansion to help lead into chrono cross, though a tie in to cross should be a sequel.
It’s insane that Crono and link to the past are so good despite being a few megabytes. There are 200 gb games that aren’t able to get as much story or fun to the gamer as something like this
my favorite aspect is how battle start
This game is great. Even the menu system and item management is amazing.
Got my like just from the dedication alone. And yeah, this is the best JRPG of all time in my opinion
Has My favorite musical score. And my absolute 💯 favorite narrative. I have so much love for this title it is unreal.
You could say that the evolution of Chrono Trigger’s battle system is FF7 Remake/Rebirth’s battle system.
Marle's Japanese name is simply "Maru" (or "Mal"), so I was going by that.
@@GamingintheAM0801 It is annoying when they change things. That is one thing I did not know.
Best game ever we need a remaster and re-release
I played the DS port and I agree with you wholeheartedly. The core game is basically perfect. No grinding, great pacing, etc. The DS exclusive dungeon/town actively makes the game worse. It's repetitive (you run back and forth through the new area like 8 times with no differences) and was the only part of the game I didn't enjoy.
THIS GAME IS MORE THAN PEOPLE TALK ABOUT
Whats the name of the song that starts at 3:55?
"Battle 2." It's one of the two tracks that was cut from the final game, but it's included in the official soundtrack.
@@GamingintheAM0801 thanks
This is certainly my perfect game. There has never been , nor will there ever be, a more important game for me.
I've really only gotten to the music section so far but I wanted to thank you for pronouncing Schala's name correctly. I'm not sure why people take sch and turn it into sk when those letter sounds do not make a hard K sound and it bugs me to no end.
Oh wow underrated youtuber.
This has been my opinion since i completed it in the week-end of release. First week of september that year
Have you played Chained Echoes? It really resonates with CT fans, you should give it a try.
I’m playing Chrono Trigger for the first time (and loving it!) because of Chained Echoes, which I love só much it’s already on my top 5 favorite games.
PS: brasileiro? 😄
@@biancpinheir sim kkk
awesome game thanks its so good.
Unfortunately, the original is not the version many people opt to play, as the DS version added new content that you would otherwise be missing out on, so the DS or PC ports are still the best versions to play in many people's opinions... we'll just take what we can get I suppose~ :/
This game is criminally underrated by Square Enix, it's bizarre how this game has flown under the radar for so long and how they refuse to really do anything with it... with the new Dragon Quest III HD-2D remake coming out though, I feel like Toriyama's art style works very well with that type of remake, so I'm holding out hope that the Octopath team tackles this legendary title as well~ :9
didnt like this game myself but i do understand why so many did.
And Bloodbourne (even with the Chalis dungeon, that can be repetitive but it's extra content for an action game).
chrono cross is another masterpiece!
Zelda 2 adventure of link also had a form of new gam +
CT is a perfect game period. Still wondering why squareenix isn't making a remake..
Best game ever, no matter what.
Great video, you could fix the audio a little bit.

@@GamingintheAM0801 I'll see you on that video's comment section then!

Just the best game ever
As far as I’m concerned, RPG’s peaked with this game.
@@GamingintheAM0801 Calling it subtle foreshadowing is fair - kind of wish it was called this in the video, but it's too late to go back, now.
Yeah, but again, concision. I had hoped it was at least implied as such.
not only will it be, its already happened multiple times.
I love chrono trigger. It’s been surpassed, multiple times.
I've never heard anyone say Super Metroid has cumbersome controls.
Played it several times when I was a kid. Replayed it recently as an adult. Game’s good, but has certainly been surpassed.
By what?
Chrono Trigger, Secret of mana, Vagrant Story, Chrono cross, FF 4-9, Xenogears, Legend of Dragoon, Breath of Fire, Tales of Destiny, Symphonia and Dragon quest 5,6 and 7...
So many great RPGs back then... Most of them from square soft. Man I miss the company so much. 😢
you've got good taste. I'd add earthbound, illusion of gaia, zelda: a link to the past, and lunar 2. lufia 2 and terranigma were also good, but never finished them.

Chrono Trigger is so perfect that it was doomed as a series because any follow-ups could never compare.
