Final Mega Fantasy Man V 5 | Gaming Through the Years
For the looks of It, the pixel art is very good-looking, but the characters are too tiny for my liking.
I personally didn't mind because it gave me more time to react and see things coming.
how exciting :D
10:10 skill issue
I started with pkmn red and a game boy pocket in late 90’s, now playing scarlet on a switch with more than 4000 creatures stored on Home, beside all its recent flaws I still love the franchise
7…Days…Left…
didnt like this game myself but i do understand why so many did.
It doesnt say, but its implied, the sigma stage is reusing the Magna Centipede stage, because they learn that sigmas base is hidden in the computer base, therefore, they need to go back and find it, and destroy the computer the virus is in, but i get what youre saying tho, great video!!
they ran out of space for a special stage, perhaps s destroyed versiob of the computer cebtral?
Sonic 2 on the Megadrive is an all time classic
Great video so far. Really enjoying it. Will check out more of yours. 20:44 I believe you should have completed the thought and said Charmander is strong against Bulbasaur
"And then we loop back around to Bulbasaur" is what I said there, I felt that got the point across.
This game will always have a very special place in my heart. It was my and my brother's first RPG, it would be an impetus to for my brother to better learn how to read and I just have some really nice memories with him and my cousins from both sides of our family. Even after all these years, this game still remains my favorite out of all the Mario RPG's.
I literally just finished playing the remake. It's so much fun. Mario RPG is like no other. A real fever dream of a game.
I cringed at the save after the master ball on the seaking...
Pokemon changed my life
My parents knew those Charlatans were full of shit and just fear mongering, they didn’t hesitate to get me and my siblings each a different version of pokemon, I had red, my sister had yellow and my brother had blue, ah good times, though my mom did think it was a fad and didn’t get us cards until kids made fun of the printed out cardstock ones she made us XD, my first card was a ripped up weedle I found on the scool bus and taped it up
Yeah, thankfully my parents didn't fall for any of the Satanic Panic crap either. My dad, however, did get pretty sick of me talking about nothing but Pokémon non-stop from ages 8 to 11, lol.
Pokemon was not an "indie game"
How were you playing Blue and Red but with color? I was so confused seeing those sprites but in color I kept thinking it was Yellow version
Red, Blue, and Green were all compatible with the Super Game Boy's enhanced color palette (which Yellow Version could do natively on a Game Boy Color). I just overlayed the footage with a Game Boy Color in editing. If you have a copy of Pokémon Stadium on N64, you can also use that to play the Gen 1 games in color like this.
The missing no glitch also allows you to obtain an item that allows you to execute arbitrary code. Its the method I used to get pokebank compatible mews into ultra sun
The Mew glitch originally has two ways the long way or the easy long way. The easy long way you need to catch a Abra. Or the long way you need to get HM 02 Fly. Either way you get a legit Mew from a glitch
I still use the Missingno or M glitch to this day. Never gets old plus a big help for gen 2
That thumbnail slaps. Gorgeous. Sought out to ken sugimori
By far the most time-consuming thumbnail I've made, lol
You should always play with the original pea soup colors of the original gameboy because that’s how the original developers originally intended it to look
I'll have you know, when I was a kid, I used my Master Ball on an Onix in Yellow.
Just totaled my car while listening to this and the cop asked me “is that Pokémon ” when I showed him the dash camera video. 😂😂😂 Technically I didn’t total my car, a cop car totaled it in the middle of a car chase.
This is by far the coolest thing to happen during one of my videos. (Glad you're okay!)
@ thanks!
Small thing, because I haven't played these games and don't have much to say: As weird as a title like Uncle could be, the word Mother fits the first game on the NES and I'd argue fits the third game if you think of it as Mother Nature and regardless, "Mother" is an inherently interesting word that could get the mind racing in ways that "Uncle," "Aunt," etc can't...That said, Mother doesn't really mean anything to the SNES game, the only game released outside Japan in a timely fashion, so this is a rare instance where I'd say a dub change helped, even "Earthbound" might not be the best title either, since space travel isn't a huge part of this game (arguably, time travel is more relevant and even that wouldn't make for a good title). Anywhoozle, cool video! Glad to see that the game started speaking to you more towards the end (which is probably a fair way to describe the first Mother) and I'd say you got to the same understanding that more dedicated Mother fans got to despite only playing one game in the series (which, again, is more than I've played). Video was also well-worded but also concise, so good listening-to content.
Thanks for such an insightful comment! I always got the feeling that "Mother" probably had more meaning to the first game, and from what little knowledge I have of Mother 3, I was able to pull a sort of "mother nature" theming from that game, but it really did not feel pertinent to this game at all. It's also great to hear that the video was good for listening; that's one of my goals when writing these scripts.
@GamingintheAM0801 As a video creator, do you get a lot of people who only listen to things, or do you have another reason for wanting them to work well without visuals?
It's mainly that those "listenable" videos are the kind of content I enjoy, so I also enjoy making them.
Pokémon shaped my childhood. Born in ‘90, it was perfect. It was a time before tech really took off. We still used our imaginations. Physical things were still so important. The show, the games, the cards encapsulated me for those few years it took the world by storm. It was an amazing time. It was everywhere. All of my friends were into it too. Nothing will ever be like that again. I found my old card collection back in 2021 and I’ve been collecting more vintage ever since. Pokémon is life ❤
Best game ever we need a remaster and re-release
As a 92 kid, I recall everything and it was magical
I'll always look back at those televangelist shows and laugh at how idiotic and downright ignorant they were. Good thing that my parents didn't gave a shit about it back in the day since they knew it was just a kids show.
I go back and watch that one satanic panic speech about pokemon like once a year, and I still don’t know what a Satanic Z is 😂😂
@taylorswan8587 I swear they pulled whatever thing that came from their asses and make that as a fact because "thing i don't like = Evil" no wonder pretty much nobody cared about what they said about it back then and rightfully so.
I think the games limitations/subpar graphics choices got balanced out by having the anime and manga release and be promoted as much as the game. At least here in the west, it was so easy to fill in rhe gaps with our imaginations.
I agree. It was actually the anime and manga that got me into the games back then!
This way my favorite SNES game as a kid. Lost it in a house fire when i was 12, but i made it my mission to get another copy. Took 2 decades. Haha Also, great video man. I would also recommend looking into MegaMan X3 the zero project.
I wish I still had that VHS promotion! The weird professor guy spouting random words to make the Pokedex sound like a tech marvel is pure nostalgia.
Can you still be a “filthy casual” and utilize EVs/IVs??? Because I don’t play competitive… I just enjoy breeding the ‘mons and hatching eggs… and I enjoy raising the babies. 😂 And I figure I might as well do the EV/IV thing while I’m at it…??? 😂
Just started watching and oh my gosh, did you get Veronica to do the opening?! That sounded just like her when she voiced Ash!
The opening was taken from a promotional VHS from the 90s, so yes that's Veronica!
Sometimes I wonder if I didn’t dedicate all the free space in my brain to pokemon, who I would be as a person and what I’d be doing with my free time and money lol
You'd be a lot worse off...!
Being born '91 Pokémon hit literally right on time for me 😅 and to think, the ideas for it were concieved even before I was born
The violence argument can no longer be used in this country
What's really sad about the Virtual Boy is Gunpei Yokoi wanted it to be much much better than it was but Nintendo wouldn't fund the vision. So this lame product dropped and destroyed his career. A legacy ruined because Nintendo wouldn't support their product. 😞
He then went on to design the Bandai WonderSwan, which is unironically one of my favorite handhelds.
@@GamingintheAM0801I wish they would port those games to a collection. I was really shocked that the Wonderswan Klonoa games were not in the PS5 Collection 👀
Also, I really appreciate you using the Green sprites. There's something about some of them that feels truly unique. My favorite Green sprite is probably Ponyta. That one just feels both ethereal and gnarly in a way that could only be expressed in the 90's.
I just looked up the sprite on Bulbapedia and I absolutely agree. It's awesome!
My brother and I were there when it all started, too. At no time since has it been the phenomenon that it was when it first came out. Whereas today it has become so ubiquitous, back then it was truly something special that really brought all of us together. I'm glad you opened up with a brief history of the handheld market. My brother and I both agree that if Pokemon never released, the handheld market would be *VERY* different. We'd most likely never have had the Nintendo Switch or the Steam Deck.
I imported Phantasy Reverie from playasia. As a young kid, I watched some kids play this a few weekends and was enamored. It stuck with me well after I forgot the name of both the game and the kids. I loved playing these the other year. I say 1 is superior if only for the hoverboard being nowhere in sight haha. I'm thinking about buying the gba games in Japanese.
This video's thumbnail contains 24 different Pokémon (25 in total, if you count Pikachu being there twice). Can you find and name all 24?
So I adore this game. This was one of the first games I fell in love with with my first exposure being TH-cam let's plays. Talkthroughs they were called, as was the times, from gamefaqs writers coming over. I've gone on to play and own most of this franchise. I'm still devastated that Visions didn't make its way to the switch. I bought this game the very first day I could on switch, via the collection of mana. I adore everything about this game. The fact it stems from the same rpg cesspool as my beloved Chrono cross is fun trivia. I hadn't considered how this game is inspired by ff2&3 as you mentioned, but it seems spot on. I have those games but have yet to play them. Anyway, great video! This game hasn't aged the best in some regards, but in other ways it manages to shine to this very day.
You son of a... I love the Chrono trilogy! Gonna watch your videos while i shiny hunt today. I first played everything chrono just two years ago. Played every game with their nintendo handheld versions funnily enough. I bought Trigger in february of 2022 in anticipation of Cross releasing that may. As for Radical Dreamers, the mystery third game, i quite loved it! Its the most replayable of them due to its length and nature as a visual novel. It makes me think of warm June nights with the windows wide open.
16:16 a seaking?? Well, the true question is, would a magikarp be better or worse? Btw nice Takato pfp. Tamers ftw.
This is an excellent retrospective on my absolute favorite game of all time. Thank you for all of your hard work. ❤❤❤❤ This is my first of your videos. I am instantly subscribing. I can’t wait to see what all you have and what is to come!
Vectorman is one of the best action platformers of the 16-bit era. Give me Vectorman over Mega Man X all day. A+ for using gameplay footage that blends the dithering. Looks beautiful as the devs intended 👌
I try to capture footage straight from original hardware whenever possible, for exactly that reason: emulators don't always reflect how games were meant to be seen.
Great video. I felt like I was 9 in 1998 again.
Forgot Gex???? He was my first tattoo 😅
Incredible 10/10
Never played it when I was a kid, though I only heard great things. Kept hearing about it and watched some videos about it on youtube and finally last year I figured out how to play it on an emulator. Played it mostly blind and I loved it. Immediately played it again with a guide to get stuff I knew I had missed, loved it even more. Immediately played it a third time to get all the endings and couldn't love it more. Bummed I missed out for so long but it really shows how good a game it is to hold up so well 30 years later and still give an adult that childish wonder, whimsy and enjoyment, though I've always loved time travel so I'm sure I'm a bit biased in that aspect. 10/10 game imo
