Born & bred in FL and live in Tampa now. Hilarious to see them considering the 70s a boom compared to what's happened in the last 2 years

The Tampa area has had several booms and the 70s was the definitely was one of them. Pinellas County was completely built out by the 90s.

West Hillsborough Ave is where I basically grew up and helped build. Now I live a bit north of there. Several of those commissioners were indicted in various scandals.

Funny what you see when watching this video, while the camera is panning along Hillsborough Ave there's a strip center as its passing Hisperdes St. Theres a Dorioes Bakery in the center, the camera shows a backed in Mustang, that car belonged to my sister, see worked at the Beauty shop, in the strip center...Wild Guess it was one of the few days she got her ass up and went to work !!

I grew up in Temple Terrace back in the '70s. Great video and a reminder of the building boom Hillsborough had back then. I recognized a few of the video shots including the Zayre over in Town and Country, South Dale Mabry back then from the Tahitian Inn down toward Britton Plaza, etc. Thanks for posting.

I grew up in old Clearwater near the old mall. Attended Skycrest Elem. Temple Terrace was where all the rich people lived.

It seems not much has changed in Hillsbough County, uncontrolled growth, sprawl and lack of planning and guts by government agencies.

I’ve heard Southern accents in this video. It seems like the Tampa Bay area was Southern at one point.

It definitely was. Tampa was a southern town until the rustbelt and new yorkers moved there. Even today I see people with confederate flags in east Tampa

still is... and its the only State in the Union where you have to go 'North to Reach South!'

@@bevbryant8272 Ya, my parent lived in Miami from the late 1940s till the late 1970s. They saw it's hay day and were there to witness it all go to shit.

Back when the news questioned the rich on their bs instead of making all the common people fight amongst ourselves.

Shortly before the Buccaneers were born, the first professional sports team in the Tampa-St. Pete region. The Lightning and Rays started in the 1990s

Funny how a Castor is the only check against the other commissioners. Proof that Tampa hasn’t changed.

6:50, I liked Mike Wallace but nobody was going to be able to stop people from moving to Florida. It's ridiculous to think that if a bank stopped doing business that all of a sudden people would quit moving to Florida.

It is funny how they made everything a crisis, the Tampa area is 4 times larger in population than it was in the 70's and is still thriving and a great place to live. I am happy to have grown up there in the 70's and 80's.
