Very beautiful painting, Christina! I think you struck just the right balance in blurring and softening the image with the pallet knife. The pose is wonderful also.
Hi Christina, similar story to yours I started painting a few years ago and left my career to follow my dreams. To me your art has grown so much in the last year. This painting reminds me of a rebirth like born again christians( I'm not religious just something that came to me). It's like a rebirth of the artist you were and how far you've come. Really good stuff
Thank you! That's a great observation - I hadn't thought of the symbolism of the water in that way. I love that. Also, congrats on pursuing your dream career! Wishing you success :)
I am truly enjoying watching you paint. I havent painted a figure in years. And your work is truly inspiring. You paint in a beautiful personal space. And surprisingly, that comes through your words, your calm and confident brushwork. And the image, all at once. Thank you!
@@alexmonroe4706 it ranges a lot based on size. A large painting, like 48in x 48in, sells for $4000. However I have small pieces in my online shop that sell for $200-$400.
I really love this! It looks like you’ve reduced the size of the figure at the beginning, it would have been nice to see how you start the composition after toning the canva. Btw beautiful work 😍
Thank you! Yes, I don't have footage of the first step, however this video gives you an idea of how I start a figurative painting: th-cam.com/video/vImBiZOSvnE/w-d-xo.htmlsi=9GMJkSSqlwA1NL97
WOW! Your painting is stunning and powerful! The figure in your painting standing there looking down thinking her thoughts of what’s next in life. Beautiful painting. Love it. 😎😎😎🔥🔥🔥❤️❤️❤️
Thank you! I was working from a photo of a stranger, so I am not able to share it here. However I do share my references in some of the other videos and in my workshops/online classes :)
As a new y to oil painting this was very helpful.. when you said you’d finished blocking in the painting I was thinking it was finished 😂 So much to learn 😊
It’s like she’s being embraced by the water, or like she’s a part of it. I just watched this video for the second time. Thank you for sharing your process. It looks like you use linen, did you say how you prepped it? I may have missed that as I was mesmerized by your voice and the music.
Thank you! I like the idea of her being embraced by the water :) Here I'm painting on canvas, I bought a stretched canvas that was already primed with gesso. I then toned with with a light brown color before painting.
Great painting and video. Love hearing you talk about edges and watching your blending, and would really like to hear more about your thoughts and techniques regarding both in a future video. Question..........what size brush was the large brush that you were using to paint the background?
It ranges a lot but recently it's been Kate Bollinger, Hermanos Gutierrez, Hania Rani, FKJ, and Radiohead. I also listen to a lot of podcasts and audiobooks.
Yes, you're right. The palette knife really transformed the painting...bravo!!
Thank you!
I love that you soften the edges and brought the figure and water together , great move ! Love your narration as well , thank you ! 🖌️

OK a random question, but what’s in your play list when painting?

@@christinakentart big fan of hermanos gutierrez- thanks for sharing!
Nice! Curious that you say if gives you a sense of hope.
Thank you! Yeah, the figure is looking down and feels maybe doubtful, uncertain. But the bright sun on the water around her feels hopeful to me :)
👍
Hey Christina how did you learn how to paint I want to get into it but I feel I’m not good
Hi! Here's a video where I share how I learned to paint: th-cam.com/video/ubstmKOs-Xw/w-d-xo.html
It takes time but you will get better!
good job but I have difficulty with the light source

What do you call your style of painting?
The general category is realism, with abstraction and painterly mark-making
Nice
