Ridiculous beautiful art in your sketchbook. Love love your art! This is really a sketchbook instof finished 'art' book. Thank you for sharing this is really inspirational.
This was very helpful for providing a goal for developing a practice of life drawing and value studies. You’ve given me such direction and inspiration. I’m also excited to share this with my granddaughter. Thank you!
So many really neat drawings. This is so cool! The first two houses look like ones I'd see in a town in Pennsylvania in the urban part near downtown or in the outer fringes of downtown.
I love seeing your sketchbooks and your progression as a artist. It's been really inspiring. I would like to suggest for a future video your thoughts on how long it takes to do some of these small sketches and the large paintings.
So glad you liked it! And thanks for the question. For a short answer, the sketches can take anywhere from 20 minutes to an hour, while the large paintings can take anywhere from a day to a couple weeks (once I actually start the painting process, not including the prep leading up to that)
Thank you! Yeah actually over the past few years, I began moving away from lines and towards more shapes. But I think I've gotten so far into shapes that I want to explore lines again haha
Here I am trying to figure out how to get more shapes and clean lines in my sketches. Your sketches look so elegant and crisp, I really like the look, I also love shadows and shapes, I was thinking maybe outlining what I draw.
Hello, I first noticed your art on instagram, and i recently found out you have a youtube. I really appriciate longer form content so i can see the thinking of an artist. As an artist myself its inspiring how much you go into value studies- as in simplyfing process to really think about simplifications of what you see, before u do any paintings. I am genuinly more impulsive and never really sketch, so when i see someone thinking and sketching beforehand im always inspired. Really loved your sketcbook tour and way of approaching art>3 keep it up🦋
I’m curious why you reduced the size of your sketches to what feels for me like an already tiny sketchbook. I’m trying with this size, but it feels too small. Also, why across the centre of the fold rather than turning on its side and using a whole page? Super interesting inspiration; I just feel like you're limiting yourself when you start with a small box in the middle of the page.
Glad you found it inspiring! I like keeping my sketches small, it helps me to simplify and focus on overall shapes rather than getting too into the details.
gosh, your sketchbooks are something else. they're not the typical "social media" sketchbooks - and i really appreciate that, actually! thanks so much for sharing with us :- )
incase it did not send. i love what you have done in the sketchbook and i love how passionate you are about it. i am surprised non of it smudged really. did you spray them? Your sketches are making me want to photograph this city. very cool.
Thanks DeVerne! I usually don't spray them, and they smudge a bit over time, especially if I did a lot of blending in graphite. If I do want to keep them pristine, I spray them with workable fixatif.
thanks, Christine, this was mind-opening to me. I am not very good to do studies but you sure inspired me to do so in future; you are very generous.❤️ looking forward to your second appearance in LFI24👏🙏👩🎨🎈
Wow Christian, such an inspiring sketchbook. I find this as I picked up oil painting that I don’t use my sketchbook so much anymore. But you really expire me to pick it up again. ❤ May I ask: In these sketchbooks, do you predominantly work from photo references or from life? If you ever run out of video ideas you could do a video on your take on drawing/painting from reference vs. life.
Hey Annek, thank you! I think sketching is a great practice and it will support your oil painting :) As for your question, in this sketchbook it was a mix, I'm trying to do more sketching from life though. And that is a great video idea, thanks for the suggestion!
I especially love your study of the Cliffs of Moher!
Love your work!!!
Your ability to simplify shapes, values and colours is truly eloquent, and inspiring!! ❤
Thank you!

Thanks for the answer. I’m always too much in the details - I will steal your tactic!!

That's awesome! Yes, do give the studies a try, I hope you find they are a great benefit to your practice :)

@@christinakentart Great, thanks so much! I really appreciate that you take the time to answer all of the comments.
The later portrait
studies are very much like you
Thank you!
I like your lines , do u have a video about how can an artist improve his lines?
Oh thank you! I'll make a video with more details on my sketching process soon :)
Sketchbook contains sketches, what you show is an effort to make art, not sketching.
Her sketchbook is whatever she wants it to be
