My bike (09' Vuclan 900 classic) is leaking oil from the weep hole and i'm being quoted around 1800 in labor to split the case and change the mechanical oil seal. I'm not sure if you know and this may be a dumb question but if there is oil leaking does that pretty much mean the seal accessible from splitting the case is the sole culprit? Is it possible just the outer seal is bad somehow letting oil leak? Wishful thinking at best, but looking for a little certainty before I think about attempting to tear my bike apart. +Rod Compton
The red stuff on my bearings is partially missing. Can I use rtv at fill it in or should I use grease? Not sure how that will work when touching mechanical seal
The red stuff is the seal that keeps the water out of the bearing. If that's missing you need to replace it. Sadly that means you need to tear down quite a bit of the engine to replace it.
@@rodcompton8436 thanks. I added the rtv and put it back together before I seen this comment. It seems to leak a little oil out the weep hole when engine is running but stops after awhile. I switched to regular oil from synthetic with Hope's of it slowing it down. I replaced mechanical seal and doesnt leak when engine is off anymore. It only leaks a little when idling
My sealed bearing cover is kinda chewed up. I was thinking making a cover out of thin aluminum sheet metal. Or perhaps I could find a replacement cover. What's your thoughts
Is the shaft supposed to move in and out and turn a little bit?
Did you leave the grease in the outside of the bearing to touch waterpump mechanical seal?

Luis Cordero I'd try anything before I would pay $1800. If it came to that it would be a parts bike. Just my opinion.
