    We had some of these machines at work mainly for getting broken taps and drills out.

      What you had at work are a bit differant then an edm. They work on the same concept but an edm can hold a much tighter tolerance and produce a much nicer finish along with costing a lot more money.

    You have to use the tools you have, but that piece could have been have been cut from square stock by a wire EDM really easily. No eroding die need be made. Nice video.

    Wow, what's your friend into that he has an EDM machine? I thought that even small machines of this type are hefty on the wallet..
    Guess it's good to have friends in high places! All the best.

    Don't like it, don't like it, don't like it at all. Makes me feel like a lost old man. Wait a second, I think I am? Oh well, keep up the good work! :) I'll keep up, or at least try to. Between naps.

    This is great! Tried finding more information on the little machine, as that may be some goody to acquire at a later time, but was not able to Google it out by typing " Concept MK IV bench spark erosion machine". Only humongous beasts show up. If you could share a brand name or link that would be fantastic! Thanks for the super cross pollinating video!

      I don't have any more info at the moment but might know where there is one for sale (in UK)

      Any chance you could ask your friend for the company brand name and website URL for this machine? Like @CNC DUDE, I too would like to explore purchase possibilities. And could you provide info on the machine that you might know is for sale in the UK? It may prove worthwhile for me to explore that too! Thanks for the great presentations. Your an amazing man with a penchant for detail and craftsmanship.

    Hi Ford, would like to ask you one question, we have 2 shafts of Material 1.4021 + QT 800 in which HSS Drill bit of Dia. 15 mm are broken inside and the length of the Shaft is 680mm, can you suggest us any solution how can we make a through hole and can remove the Drill Bits??

    • @myfordboy
      @myfordboy  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      I can't think of a solution. It sound too long to go in a spark eroder.

    Great choice of friend, however that’s probably too cynical an observation. Certainly got the job done though. What was the finish like? Regards.

    • @myfordboy
      @myfordboy  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Finish is fine for this application. I believe the finish can be changed according to how the machine is set.

    1. is the spark erosion happening in real time?
    2. how much stock was maintained prior to erosion?

    • @myfordboy
      @myfordboy  6 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      It took about 5 minutes to complete the cut.

  • @Kamelot19
    @Kamelot19 5 ปีที่แล้ว

    to what temperature are these electroded being heated up and what are they being bathed in during the cut?

    • @myfordboy
      @myfordboy  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Liquid is similar to kerosene.Temperature not known, it would not be high.

    Using a £10,000+ machine for a £1 filing exercise is great but filing is a 5 minute job. The part needed making smaller so not sure how this worked anyway??

      It does, but not by much in this instance

    • @michaelslee4336
      @michaelslee4336 6 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      Oops a bit more. You can make roughing and finishing electrodes if a lot of material had to be taken out.

      Electrodes - which are the ones sending the charge - are probably designed to stronger sustain their mass, by utilising a harder material, with less electrons free to be detached, maintaining its extremely low Mho values.

    • @rahulkapahi6364
      @rahulkapahi6364 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      usually, deionised water is used as the dielectric.
      Kerosene may also be used.
