    I’m a beginner to crochet. I’m working on a single crochet blanket right now and doing these videos. I love your videos. You are such a good teacher. Single crochet is my favorite stitch at the moment. I’m sure that will change. It is really good for your mental health. I’m so excited to be on this journey and to learn. It’s so fun. Thanks so much! ❤

    I am expecting my first grandchild and decided to teach myself to crochet so I can make a baby blanket. Your tutorials are awesome. The best ones I've seen yet. I have the chain and SC stitch down, working on tension lol. Thanks for your help and education on yarn selection and tools of the trade. I learned that the I picked the wrong yarn to practice. I am also a lefty so the learning curve is interesting but nothing I haven't dealt with already in life. Looking forward to binging on the rest of the two week class!

    You have helped me conquer the single crochet! I have made 2 perfect coasters. Before your video my squares were very wonky.
    What made it possible to get them right was counting every stitch first then crocheting them. Also using a half size larger needle for the chain.
    One row i counted i had dropped a stitch, so i ripped that row out and started over.
    Now i am starting this video on the double crochet. The beginning and ending sounds confusing, but i will watch this video over until i get it.
    The stitch itself is easy. You are a really good teacher!

    Love your video. I am teaching myself to crochet. But, just one suggestion. When you are showing which stitch to work next, use your hook as a pointer. I am a visual learner, and sometimes a finger is a little harder to see with two hand show. Keep up the great work

    I crocheted a little 50+ years ago and am trying to pick it up again.
    I did notice that I was making a slip knot like I would tie off a thread when sewing. This method kept pulling on the working yarn. I tried the slip knot you demoed and it worked better although not as natural yet for me. I will work on that.
    I like the double crochet because the results are more fluid, less stiff.
    Thank you for helping me rekindle creativity.

    Do you only go to the 4th stitch in the beginning and then every stitch thereafter>?? I see now the 2nd row yow went to the 4th stitch so I have to remember each row starts out with stitch 4 I hope I got it right. Thank you so much and I love your videos! It was a bit confusing to me the first row having 10 stitches and then the 2nd and 3rd had 11. Is there a reason for that I might have missed?

    Fantastic instructions, Sigoni, thank you! Since the yarn you're using is no longer available, would you recommend some alternatives that would be similar and easy/affordable? One of the challenges I've had is my perception of my stitches being different because my yarn looks and behaves slightly differently.

    • @SigoniMacaroni
      @SigoniMacaroni  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Hmm this yarn is a bulky weight cotton yarn and unfortunately there aren't many like it - that's why I'm so bummed it's discontinued. But you can use any light colored medium 4 or 5 yarn. Honestly, Hobby Lobby has the best yarn choices in my opinion, especially for beginners. But if you don't have one near you you could go into your local yarn store and look at these weight yarns to see what you like best. Just make sure they're not frizzy or different colors. I'll be making a video soon about choosing the best yarn!

    I'm loving the learning, but just having I've recurring confusion about stitch counting. Not totally sure for instance which is the fourth chain into which we stitch the first dc. And do we always add in one chain at each end. I'll watch again, but just can't be sure. Thank you.

    • @SigoniMacaroni
      @SigoniMacaroni  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi Deborah, around the 2 minute mark I count the chains to show you which chain is the 4th from your hook. The loop around your hook doesn't count as a chain so you will be counting each chain after that. I'm not sure what you mean about adding in a chain at each end. At the end of each row you will chain 3 and turn your work and when you reach the other side of the work you will place your last stitch into the top chain of the chain 3.

    • @deborahmahs6092
      @deborahmahs6092 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    Hi Sigoni! Thanks for your time and help with your videos! They are appreciated! My question is, do you always need to chain 3 when beginning a DC row?
    Keep up the great work!

    • @SigoniMacaroni
      @SigoniMacaroni  3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      The “technical” answer would be yes, the double crochet always needs a chain 3. However, there are exceptions. All designers and all crocheters are different. A lot of people don’t like that the chain 3 creates a gap at the ends and that’s why you see so many people chaining 2 instead of 3, which is fine as long as you understand what the designer is doing. I talk all about this in my video about turning chains. th-cam.com/video/0tBZjii7I1g/w-d-xo.html

    Hi, Sigoni! Thank you for this awesome master class! I have a newfound interest in crochet, thanks to your help! I have a question about stitching in the last stitch of the row. You say to place the last dc stitch into the top of the 3rd chain stitch we made in the row below. However, I can’t really see it. To me, when I try to put in that last dc stitch, I either put my stitch into the the big hole made by the chain, or catch just one piece of the loop of the stitch above, which doesn’t seem to be correct either! Can you please help? I hope I was able to describe my problem well enough for you to understand. Thank you!

    • @SigoniMacaroni
      @SigoniMacaroni  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      When I chain 3 at the beginning of a row, I like to make my third chain slightly bigger so it’s easier to work into when I come back around. To do this, lift up on your hook a little to loosen the stitch and then make your third chain. Let me know if that helps or if you’re still having trouble!

    Thank you for the video! I think I can follow it for the most part, but when I am at the end of my 3rd row, I am not sure what to do - I cannot see well if I am missing a stitch or not, and I am not sure if I am supposed to go to the top of the previous chain, because in the 3rd row it always looks equal, as if I am just supposed to continue to making 3 new chains and flipping the piece. Sorry if I am not clear, but in short, I am not sure if I am supposed to double crochet in the top previous chain each row, or not. Thank you
