- We recently built an indoor parkour training facility in a disused JJB sports shop in Manchester. The building is currently being used by a circus group called the Circushouse. Under an initiative by 3space, permission was granted to use the vacant property for this purpose, and we also had the opportunity to incorporate a parkour park which we designed and built ourselves. In this video, you can see the first version of the park, which was constructed for a budget of around £150. Thanks to Owen Gaynor, Sian Haslock and Alex Anderson for allowing us to use a section of the space.

Looks like a great space to train in the winter conditions, look forward to seeing lot's of imaginative movements in the future
I absolutely love this. The cooperation between parkour and circus is so cool to see! Also, I thought the Willy Wonka part was brilliant.
It was the organisers of the Circushouse who arranged use of the space, through a company called 3 Space. Google them. They have a number of properties available around the UK.
@AnomalyFreerunning I'm not sure what the name of the scaffolding is. We were lucky enough to get it for free. It's the common type of scaffold which is typically used here in the UK. I think this differs slightly from the usual scaffolding you have in the US. It might be worth calling a few local suppliers to see what they stock. Good luck with the project!

Watched your video a few times and it is truly inspirational, I live in a more rural town with no decent place to practice parkour, was really wondering how you managed to secure an indoor facility off JJB to design an indoor parkour area.
If someone happened to be passing by, would they be able to stop in this and spend half an our or so just doing random stuff? Or would they have to schedule before coming or pay or something?
We still train at least 3 times a week. Tuesday & Thursday evenings from 6pm and Saturdays from 10:30am. The website isn't used much these days. Most discussions about our training happen on the Northern Parkour facebook group. You'll find more info there. Join us for training at any time. There are currently no indoor facilities in Manchester run by anyone with actual parkour experience. Train for free with us ;)
There are always places to train and scout out. A park or gym isn't really necessary. Use your imagination to find new paths, explore your world. Belive me, finding a spot where you never thought you would is very rewarding.

There are parkour sessions at the Circushouse on Monday evenings for under 18's, run by Scott. They run from 5:30pm-7pm. Beginners are welcome.
Before you can attend the Saturday sessions, you need to either attend a number of our regular outdoor sessions or go to some of Scott's Monday evening classes from 5:30-7pm. The Circushouse is in Ancoats, Manchester. Google it to find more info on the Circushouse website.
Keep it up and train daily. Remember that parkour is all about the philosophy, find new paths and explore your world. As you find limitations, train to overcome them. And don't try to do like everyone else, parkour is about finding YOUR movement. Good luck and have fun.
@pkpaul3 The people who run the Circushouse were able to get the wood through people they knew. Most of it was scrap, which would have cost somebody money to dispose of. Take a look at the 3 Space website (link in description above).
Maybe in the summer we'll pay you a visit. Where a bouts in Ireland are you?
I always used to wear lightweight denim (protection) but a few years on and ive switched to the sweatpants for the fact they're loose and light. However with the hot weather over the past 2 weeks has caused me to switch to shorts.
Basically its just personal preference.
Well, the first step to getting in shape is to start training, so come along! We have beginners almost every week, so you won't be the only one.
hey Paul, I noticed you weren't allowed to rig anything into the wall but does that stop you from connecting scaffolding up to the hand rail of the stairs?- its just a thought but it would provide pretty stable ground to make the place higher. Also do northern parkour still do training outside around deansgate area? I'd fancy coming to training at some point if its still on the table.
It was in Ancoats. Unfortunately though, JJB Sports, who owned the building, went into administration, and so the Circus House had to move out of the building. They're looking for a new building, but there will be no parkour area in the new one. There's plenty of opportunity to train outside though!
The Circushouse is available to the people who train with us regularly, each Saturday for £3 per person. Come along to some of the outdoor sessions first.

There are lots of shut down JJB Sports stores now. This one was in Ancoats on the retail park.

where is the closest parkour training area in noblesville, IN?
Indiana??? I live there to but not the same place. Try sky zone a trampoline park in Jeffersonville kentucky, I think.
@iMozley Good to meet you yesterday. I'd strongly recommend going to Scott's class on Monday. For the last few weeks, we've had too many people at the park on Saturdays. I know that you went yesterday afternoon, which was fine, as it wasn't too busy. Usually though, Scott has to approve new people for the Saturday sessions, as we need to ensure that those who attend can do so safely. Go along on Monday evening ;)
It should, given the wood is water treated and you choose nails and screws that won't weather badly. Rubberized coating over them should help. Either way it would require maintenance, but that could be part of the 'cost of use' for tracures.
They wouldn't be ideal, but they'd do to begin with. You know when we train, so come along!

@TheGrahammasterflash You're probably right. Health & safety usually spoils things like this. We've been very lucky with this project though, and have been able to create something which we're quite pleased with.
@AmericanParkour Sounds good! If I get time later this Summer, I'll see if I can come over :) It's always good to visit different groups, and I'd be interested to see what you've done with your gym! I'll let you know anyway :)

We don't run classes as such, but anyone is welcome to join us at any of our regular parkour sessions in Manchester :) Occasionally, we run beginners sessions though. The best place to go for more information is the Northern Parkour facebook group.

My dream is will build to parkour&freerunning gym in the South Korea.
As I said, it's closed. The building was owned by JJB Sports. When they went out of business, the Circushouse lost the use of the space.
I'm working on Strength Training 3 at the moment. It will be out just before Christmas :)

Any beginners are welcome to attend the Monday evening sessions. The under 18's session runs on Monday evenings from 5:30pm to 7pm. Google Circushouse Manchester for more info.
Hey, I'm thinking about getting into Parkour, I live in Barnsley and there isn't any obstacles in my area and I have to go into the town center to practice, but I'm a bit scared about training with everyone watching, have any advise?
@tripsimon The parkour area is available to us on Saturdays. A member of Northern Parkour will need to be there to sign you in. If you come to train with us in Manchester, we'll take you there if we're going.

Dude this place is sick! hi Obsidian. I was curious what type of scaffolding you used? it looks extremely strong and durable, as well as adjustable? I was hoping you might know what company it was purchased from or the name of the specific type of scaffolding used. Im opening a parkour training facility in California, US and am currently looking for a durable, not terribly expensive scaffolding set up. Also any advice would be awesome. This looks amazing, I've been wanting to go along to Northern Parkour for a while now but can't convince anyone to go with me... maybe I'll pop along sometime :)
@Obsidian1138 For sure man, I'd love to plan a Europe trip when funds are a bit better. Likewise to you if you ever want to come to San Antonio to train :) Got a gym to run here as well, and hopefully expanding a bit soon so it keeps me tied up a lot. You're looking more explosive each time I see you man, great stuff!

If you don't mind me asking buddy, how do you get into parkour, because it looks amazing and I practice stretching and do exercise on my own, but I'd feel a tad odd just running about on my own in a city. :P
@A1rcherybowhunter1 yeah the way it's all fixed in place at tempest really increases the versatility, also if we spent much money on the build we'll have no money left for Tea and bickies... £150 doesn't go far, but in the future we plan on building more and buying some cheese and crackers.

Find a space first. Look into 3 Space as a starting point. You may be able to get access to a property for little or no cost, depending on how you intend to run the parkour park. Google 3 Space for more info :)

Are there any specific weight,height boundaries or previous injury restrictions?
Now ive noticed that everyone does parkour in sweatpants? Is there any specific reason? Because when im out doing this i just wear shorts
@Musicismylifedw Well it is mainly for flexibility, and in Manchester it could just be colder out so they are dressing for the weather. Also it may offer some extra protection against scrapes and things.

@climax360 It's my work with the Glidecam. I've been using Glidecam HD 2000 and Canon 60D with Sigma 10-20mm f3.5

I haven't heard of any parkour parks in North Wales, but that's not to say that there isn't a gym which runs indoor sessions. Google!
@Del8Traceur such nice shots, iv just invested in 550D. im going to have to save some pennys and get a glidecam such good peice of kit.

could a park based on stuff built like this work for outside? would it stand rain and stuff like that?
@Musicismylifedw Any loose fitting clothing is fine for parkour. Most of the time, it's not warm enough in Manchester for shorts, so we wear sweatpants. Shorts will be fine though.
Can i learn parkour just in a normal gymnastic gym?

Are you still training or meeting up? I've recently become very interested in parkour and I'm willing to dedicate myself to it. I recognise the name Obsidian from the Northern Parkour website. There doesn't seem to be much activity on the site so I was just wondering whether you're still meeting up etc. I'm turning 17 at the end of this month (just to clarify). I can't really seem to find other places to train besides Evolve Gym in Salford. Please reply with any/all information if possible.

thats such a shame! This place looked really awesome. Big, indoors, and not expensive. I wish we had that in my city.
