- PLEASE NOTE: This is the 2009 Typhoon Nangka, not the 2015 one!
Watch in HD! This is a timelapse from 7am until 9pm of Typhoon Nangka hitting Hong Kong.
Check out the rain walls at 0:50, 1:10, 1:45, 4:10, lights going up at 4:30. Its interesting how the clouds change direction while the typhoon moves from the south to the north-east (camera looking north).
Music Artist: Dax Johnson
Song: Greysen - Slow Beginning
This was recorded with a Canon 50D and a 17-55mm 2.8 lens. I switched off the Autofocus, Image stabilizer, set the ISO to fix 100 and left the aperture/exposure to automatic. Also a black cloth was taped to the window and hung over the camera to avoid reflections in the window from the lights in the room.
The Camera was connected to the PC with a USB Cable and to power with a AC-Cable. The Canon software was steering the camera to take 1 image every 10 sec. It took almost 5000 images with 1MB per image (=5GB of Data). One issue was that the vibrations from the exposure de-focussed the image over time.

wow I probably first saw this a year after it is uploaded, and I still get chills when I watch this video. Such a beautiful video and music is nice. Almost 10 years later
Thank you so much. This was exactly the view from my living room window during the time I lived in Hong Kong, in Mid-Levels near Robinson Road. Brings back wonderful memories.
Incredible video, and high quality photos! Congratulations, well done!!
i love the scenery drawn by them.
it is the special place where the nature eats the
city every season every day.
in my eyes, hk is always in such a dynamic nature.
thank you for posting it.
This is the best HD timelapse on TH-cam.
Really nice! Never thought a typhoon could look so nice.
you have to send this video to the news because everybody have to see that .Its AWESOME!!
The music compliments it so well. Very calming. Great job.
The video is spectacular, but the reason I'm commenting is the music. Unbelievable. Beautiful.
Dax Johnson, from his album Levity. I'm previewing it on iTunes right now, and the whole album sounds just as elegant and powerful as this song. Buying it shortly. A very appropriate choice.
Thanks for introducing me to this music!
Amazing. Thanks for putting this together.
AMAZING VIDEO REALLY LOVED IT!!!! I VE BEEN WATCHING IT OVER AND OVER AGAIN!!!! AND THE SOUNDTRACK IS ALSO SO... EXPRESSIONISTIC!!!!!!! :) as a visual artist i give my congrats LOVE IT ABSOLUTELY LOVED IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

clearing at the late night (6 Feb at 3.30 AM)
Fantastic video mate, keep doing what you're doing
By the way, thanks for the detailed info about your time lapse photos. I find it very useful.
wow. that's amazing.
two days later i visited hong kong^^
It's so wonderful and those lights going on in the end :-*
really beautiful, thanks for uploading this
Also, Nangka of 2009 was only a TS, not a typhoon.
i love hong kong; you really captured the essence of it in this video! ah, i miss it so much, am residing in the states now! :P
this is an awesome video :)
Perfectly displays the banding pattern common in tropical cyclones. Great job
AWESOME.. I wish I could have it as my screensaver!! Only if u started at 5am or something i wouldve loved to see all the city lights turn off and the sunrise..
It awesome when it becomes nightfall.. what a beautiful pace!
Absolutely stunning footage!!
Thank you, such a wonderful video record of time not only feel it but see it. I wonder if you make another video to show us your setup so we may duplicate other equally wonderful moments for all of us. Thanks again for the nice video.
Really nice video and the music is so good...
Congratulations!
Beautiful city and amazing capture with beautiful music...very well done!
Beautiful. I would have watched the whole thing in real time too. ...and wouldn't want to close my eyes ever with a view like that.
Great work man. Love it.
I also really would like to enjoy more time lapse videos of you. The interplay between the great pictures and the awesome music is brilliant. :)
*Greetings from Germany ;)
Wonderful video to lay back and enjoy over and over again! It's making me very melancholy. Wanna go back to Hong Kong right now!!
It also reminded me, that the view is only that clear when there is a typhoon. :D
Made favorite and rated 5*
I completely agree. An HD downloadable version of this video would be PERFECT as a dreamscene background.
Amazing footage !!! Would love to see more of these if thats possible !
For some reason, i found this video really soothing.
Great video! Imagine having the same day but, the camera was on top of the Peak :)
beautiful place to live, love the HD filming and music suits it very nicely. Thank you for sharing. ^_^
Very nice video, thanks for sending it . What camera did you use to shoot this?
Great video, thumbs up. Cheers from sunny Sint Maarten in the Caribbean.
What a thrill it gave me to watch this beautiful city weather the storm as though it wasn't happening!
Very impressive and great to capture such a long duration and the typhoon.
It's so nice!! Thanks a lot!
really nicely done, HK never looked better. thanks for sharing.
Hello, this is great time-lapse video!!!
How spectacular it looks at 0:53 when the rain begins to pour across the city and the harbor!
Beautiful city I love how its skyline always looks good in any conditions rain or shine
Awesome sauce! A bit of fat could be trimmed from the beginning and end but otherwise great. I loved the transition to night time and when the wind switches to head on and you can see the rain wall coming right at you.
Is it funny that I'm watching this now when Nangka of 2020 is active?
Am I funny that I photographed timelapse of Nangka 2020?th-cam.com/video/LZ_vSt7yhDs/w-d-xo.html

...no?

Just Beautiful foggy clouds with nice rain and sunshine it’s beautiful
The rain walls are amazing.
Great video yes, perhaps the from the most beautiful spot on the planet. However, during the period in question the wind will certainly not have reached typhoon strength in Victoria Harbour. Vessels, boats and even the "Star Ferry" keep operating throughout the time shown. In a real typhoon they would have been brought to the appropriate shelters and disappear from the open harbour.
師兄好利害,拍左咁長時間,重要係颱風時候~~
I thought Hong Kong was beautiful during the day. That city comes to life once the sun goes down. Looks spectacular.
Fantasic video! Well done!
I assume this is a Canon DSLR connected to the PC with the time-lapse control.
Nice shot! Judging from the shooting location, it has to be one of the multi million mid-level apartments..........
Absolutely Amazing! Great Job.
this is SO beautiful. i love the waves of light passing over the buildings. most impressive.
when you say "the vibrations from the exposure de-focussed the image over time." did you have the camera against the glass? could removing the camera a cm away from the glass solve the problem?
I miss Hong Kong so much! Got all teary-eyed watching this! :'(
There really is no place quite like it...
x
I love being human and being able to watch a storm in comfort.
Absolutely beautiful and inspiring. Thank you for sharing.
Wow wow wow awesome I have been to H-K few times and I enjoyed this city, to see it in that way is astonishing, thanks to have share
From Al Montreal quebec Canada
I've used the Canon TC-80N3 remote control to trigger the camera. It's nice and small and portable.
I also use Adobe Premiere Pro which has a rate stretch tool that lets you adjust the length of your clips to the length of the song. Also has titling.
At 30fps, I get one frame every 5 seconds. Am I calculating something wrong? What did you put the video together with?
thank you
your brilliant in doing this
this is really really awesome. i just wish u continued it until sunrise...
also, which building were u filming in?
Great video :)
If only the time interval were shorter the resulting video would be much smoother. I think 5 seconds would've been perfect.
What's the song that you are using in the video? Love it by the way. Great job!
Quite amazing. I love that fact that the city never sleep ^-^ LOVE HK!
Very nice work and music.
So, So incredible ! !
Thank you for sharing, "Smart-Guy". :}
Very nice. The boat traffic reminds me of water bugs. You have to use a little tape on the barrel and focus ring of the lens next time to keep it in place:)
m-
Nice, keep up the awsome work
very kewl! looking at the position and angle this was filmed from, was this filmed somewhere at the top of old peak road?
thank you for this amazing video
wow, this is really cool, thanks!
Awesome footage !!!!!
very cool.. would like to see more videos like this over major City's nice piano too. what song what it?
Are you going to make more videos like this????
Can you make time lapse videos of future typhoons which affect Hong Kong?
amazing - where were you located? on a building ?? ...and curious can a 500d do this...
Awesome work! Where did you take the pics from? Seems it must have been inside.
This is incredible! And a great view. I love how it captures almost clear skies and very cloudy skies all in the same video. And the ending is spectacular! Did you change tapes or were you using a hard disk camera?
Nice execution this took some planning. Appreciate the information in the description. The night shots are especially beautiful. Are you planning more time lapse videos?
amazing! What program did you use to create this time lapse? I tried with windows movie maker but it's not that good.
you said the iso was fix at 100, what about the shutter speed and aperture?? what mode you use?? manual or AV ??
I was in Hong Kong this summer just loved the weather will rain for a few minutes and the sun will comeback out. Here in Vancouver if it rains it most likely stays for weeks
Nice...how many GB was it? That's what, 14 or 10 hours? Wow!
Amazing... fantastic work..
very interesting..... thanks for uploading !
I love the background music.
And I miss HK (I wanna go back...snif, snif). I used to live there 5.5 yrs
and I also miss the typhoons.
I always like the T8 and above...cuz that equals no school!!
hehe.
I try to film timelapse with auto, but as result - changing in parameters in a short time, so I got a flashes on video. Did you have this problem and how can you fix it?
The next time you could place the camera at Kowloon side to record another video? I think it would be more beautiful if you show us the HK skyline.
Its ironic that something so beautiful can be so deadly. Nice video
WOW! GREAT VIDEO!!
Hey guys I also live in Hong Kong but I'm not chinese
Me too
Ava Julian where are you from
Thank!
you works so good^^
what's the name of the track ?

Nice video!
awsome video!
i was there, right in the center of the image, living in the Chung King Mansion in Kowloon
I enjoyed the video. So are you a fan of Dax Johnson?
