I think the bigger concern with the McD. L. T was the packaging concern. If people were honestly complaining about the difficulty of assembling a cheeseburger, we’re screwed.

    • @Toastybees

It's not that it was difficult, it was just a whole lot of oddly shaped and unwieldy packaging for very little payoff.

I mean it's not that the assembling is difficult but imo it just doesn't make sense to go to fast-food shop and pick a burger I need to assemble rather than one that comes already assembled

Mighty Wings were awesome! And their potential appeal was easy to understand, at least in the US, where buffalo wings and their many, many variants are all over the place. I don't think it really had much to do with competeing with KFC--who have also struggled to sell spicy wings--as it was tapping to into super-popular spicy wing market in the US.
I really liked that you could get get just three or five to an order. In most places I've been to in the US, the smallest order you can get is usually 10-12 wings, so being able to get smaller sizes when you weren't that hungry was very welcome.

I wouldn’t call the McD’s Chicken Selects a failure. I loved them as a young child in the early 2000’s for their initial run. Then when they came back around 2017-2019 I was working at McD’s for my first job, I sold boat loads of Chicken Selects in my time working there. I also ate just as much, so maybe I have contributed to their downfall.
They were popular enough to warrant a new option called Glazed Tenders, which was an order of Selects covered in sweet and spicy bbq sauce and tossed around in a Tupperware container.

Bad business decision if you ask me (and I know you haven't) but it just seems to me a business should just stick to the basics that made them who they are. They've done more than fine for decades... Why add the added food costs of specialty bacon, guacamole, pico, bbq sauce etc? All of those things have a limited shelf life, especially guacamole. If you want a specialty burger go to a burger joint.
I'd say you'll pay more but with the price hikes at all fast food restaurants in recent years you'll get subpar food at around the same price at a fast food place.

I for one actually remember the mighty wings of 2013 very fondly. My mom and I would go every once in a while and get 6 pieces each with some of their ranch. They were honestly great. When they took the mighty wings away and we only had chicken nuggets again it just wasn’t the same. McNuggets are fine but no sane human being is gonna describe then as “great tasting” or even “tasting like chicken” at all.

Whenever I hear from people who frequent McDonald's where I live the main takeaway is how fast and convenient it is to grab before or after their workshift. A decent chunk of these by comparison seem like they either take awhile to make or are a small portion. I get a few of these though onion nuggets sound delishious in particular.

12:33 We actually still have Chicken Selects in the UK. I get them fairly often when I fancy McDonald's, but I don't want it that much. I've had McDonald's so many times that I'm bored of it, so I don't have it much. Unless it's breakfast, which is served until 11 AM here, don't know about Australia, but if I somehow end up with McDonald's for lunch or dinner, my day usually gets significantly worse. Breakfast isn't too bad though.

PhantomStrider videos always brighten up my day! While I love the cartoon videos, I personally think the food videos are even more interesting. As for my thoughts on these items: I think the Onion Nuggets and Mclean Deluxe burger should be tried again, as they sounded like good ideas. For Brownie Bites, I adore brownie and chocolate in general, but I'm not too sure about MCDONALD'S making brownies. I believe moderation in food is key, but sometimes these fast food chains go overboard with calorie-filled items. Hey Josh, can I leave a suggestion? Could you cover mascots in the future, whether it be fast food, snack, drink, or theme park? Seems like a nice mix of cartoons and food. Some mascots are even voiced by famous actors! For example, the 1970s incarnation of Jack from Jack In The Box Restaurants was voiced by Paul Winchell. Sadly, only three 1970s Jack In The Box Restaurant commercials [Baseball, In The Park, Jack In The Box Animated Commercial 1970s], and three comics [How A House Makes Noise, Where Oil Comes From, How Pain Helps Us] are on TH-cam, but I'm thankful we even have any at all, considering Jack In The Box tries to pretend their past doesn't exist. I do recommend checking these 70s JITB ads and comics out though, they're very charming. And some mascots, such as The California Raisins, were so popular that they were EVERYWHERE. The Raisins even won an EMMY for their Meet The Raisins special and said special got a sequel: Raisins Sold Out. I highly recommend both specials, as they have tons of funny jokes and reference to real life bands, heck, the humor in them even kind of remind me of Veggietales.

Never really heard of some of the foods on here, that one with the mystery brown sauce, it doesn't sound too appealing. One other problem I remember having with the Styrofoam containers is that when we'd get breakfast from McDonald's and I got the pancakes/hotcakes and sausage, my fork would always end up poking holes into the Styrofoam when I was trying to get a bite of the pancakes or sausage and syrup would go onto the table instead at that point. I’ve always seen comments on desert videos on TH-cam (in particular YT Shorts so this probably be taken with a grain of salt) a lot of people complain about almost any desert video I tend to see people complaining about the amount of sugar. One example were these “Cookie Monster cookies” which were literally just regular chocolate chip cookies colored blue. Although to be fair, I may just be showing that I’m a fat ass.
