I once had a Pet Rock. He was barely domesticated. One day, he got out, and went through the front window of a truly obnoxious neighbor. The city pound had to put him down.

The main part of the Pet Rock package was actually the joke book that presented as the guide/care book. The rock was just meant to complete the package for the book, but people thought the rock was the attraction and forgot about the actual content.

Honestly to be fair to the virtual boy.. it was a hell of a good companion for some of us whose single parent couldn't afford a Nintendo 64 or PS1 . It was an especially great companion after my brother passed away in 94 in a car accident on his way to school one Wednesday August 25 morning. My virtual boy is actually on display in my collection now though & looks pretty darn great man. I suppose we all have our own opinions and perspectives in life. Thanks for your efforts and uploads . In the midst of the Tamagotchi craze, I invented a Virtual Pet Rock for fun: 'Tama-golem.' It had at least a partial, satirical care manual with topics and a cover image very similar to a Tamagotchi. I even painted a river stone with acrylic paints to match the screen, buttons and light on those things. It soon was decorating the ground below the drip line at my mom's house, and may still be there.
I recall recommending stuff like tossing it into a bowl of water when it needed to drink, and flinging it against walls to discipline it.

Pet rocks were one of the few fads I actually enjoyed being a part of. They were just fun gag gifts that made you smile. They never caused the crazy frenzies of Beanie Babies, Cabbage Patch Kids or Tickle Me Elmos, but that was what makes me remember them fondly to this day. Would I buy one today, though? Nope. It's only charming if it's a shared pop culture experience - and nobody's getting trampled for it.

Indeed. There were a lot of aircraft over the years that were much less successful than the designer expected them to be. This is a case of a plane that wasn't well designed and, apparently, the designer went for a Darwin award rather than halt testing and figure out what was wrong. It's probably the only thing on this list that really doesn't belong.

This air taxi does sound like a useful idea. Short landings like this plane does, are called stall landings. And what's great about this is even with the Virtual Boy's failure, Nintendo is still fascinated with the concept of 3D gaming and VR, which both concepts were finally realized and done right with the 3DS and the Switch Labo VR Kit, showing that even a great failure can open the doors of inspiration, even leading to creating much better successes of something that didn't do well years ago.

I bought a bunch of candy, wrapped it in plastic wrap, covered it with paper machete, then painted it gray with some shades and color to make it look like a polished rock. Then, I gave it as an elephant gift present. The first kid who got it traded it with someone else before they realized there was candy in it and realized he missed out on the candy XD. It was a great Christmas Party.

There are pet rocks, and there are rocks that keep tigers away, according to Homer Simpson. In all reality, they are both just rocks. The pet rocks are no more of a pet than any other rock, and having a rock that keeps tigers away would be the exact same situation as not having that rock, there'll be no tigers either way unless you're living in the wild somewhere in India, Bengal, or Burma/Myanmar, or live near a zoo with the worst cages and security of any zoo in the world. Hey Strider, it was truly a joy to edit the Virtual Boy segment at 9:05! I've always found the Virtual Boy to be a fascinating system so I had a lot of fun editing the segment! Personally, I actually kinda like the Virtual Boy and I do enjoy playing it in short bursts. I think it's one of the few systems that you kinda have to experience in person to really appreciate. It just wasn't very well designed and wasn't advanced enough to be something truly great. Anyway, you made the other stupid items on this list oddly fascinating as well. I think this is one of your best videos yet! Cheers my friend!

@@JacksonOfTheJerry I played one. I actually owned 3 of them (1 from eBay, 1 from a Yard Sale, 1 from Goodwill. [2005 - 2008 was a fun time in the used games market.]) The Virtual Boy *is* fun in short plays if you adjust its eye settings right, and if you don't have issues with headaches from it (which I did not.) That said, *do not give it to someone who's 8 years old or younger,* maybe not even until they're 13 or older; eyes are still developing as kids grow, so you don't want to risk eye damage.

I bought the virtual boy and it really helped my child's video game addiction. He would only play for a little bit of time and then give up and do his homework. LJN Video Art: That thing had a controller that had a terribly squeezy noise & had the worst joystick known to mankind, & alongside that the paint program itself was terrible, not even including a save function let alone any way to fill up one part of the screen with a single color. That thing was worthless in every way possible.
Pop Station LCD games: Those things flood the Chinese market like the plague it is & they just keep getting worse & worse, featuring the same crappy Street Fighter clone, the same boring driving game & whatever the heck "Submarine Invasion" is. Ashens covered A LOT of those stupid things.
Atari Jaguar CD: Alongside looking like a toilet, most models of the thing likely didn't work because of faulty wires, stupid connection errors, the CD tray being a butthole, etc.
Tiger R-Zone: Imagine the Virtual Boy, but instead of innovative technology, it's just awful Tiger LCD games, but made black & red to capitalize on said Virtual Boy. That's the R-Zone & you & it was actually much worse to the eyes than the V-Boy was as it can give people headaches IMMEDIATELY.

We gave my sister a pet rock as a joke, and she loved it _because_ of the joke.
    The joke:
She went back to college in her 40s, and there was one semester that she (very stupidly) took a geology course for one of her electives because she "thought it would be interesting."
It turned out to be absolute HELL. It had nothing to do with her major and it was far more involved than she ever thought it would be. She had to study like crazy for everything, and she _barely_ passed at the end of the semester.
As a "congratulations, you passed!" gift, we gave her a pet rock (which was, unsurprisingly, my dad's idea). She laughed HARD when she made the connection and thought it was absolutely hilarious. It stayed on her bookshelf from then on.
And that is one of the only instances that I can think of where a pet rock would actually make sense.
Edited to add: the instruction booklet for how to take care of your pet rock is almost worth the price of the whole thing on its own. It's quite funny.

I feel like the Pet Petter might actually be useful with helping anxious bitey dogs and cats get used to the sensation of getting pet without humans getting hurt. Do it as part of socializing to the point where they can be adopted out to good homes.

As for what I liked about it? I guess as a 9 or 10 year old, it just seemed so cool. And that tennis game was actually addictively fun, while Warioland as I mentioned, was one of the best games I had played. And I've played a LOT of games

I remember my first time seeing car lashes. ‘Twas not but a year ago when I was walking with my friends, having a wonderful time at my city’s monthly art festival. This event is well known for its ability to call upon the eccentric like moths to a flame. Which, I believed was a great thing. Until I saw… it. A yellow Volkswagen bug with large black eyelashes, staring into my soul with its lifeless headlight eyes. I immediately hurled an obscenity in shock, which alerted my comrades to the vehicle’s presence. They were equally unnerved by the lovecraftian nightmare car we stumbled across. Obviously, pictures were taken to document our findings, but we all knew we wouldn’t really need them. After all, who could forget a face like that?

STOL, which stands for Short Take Off and Landing, has been an aviation word for almost 70 years. The first aircraft with that designation, the Dornier Do 27, made its initial flight in 1955. Earlier STOL aircraft, like the de Haviland DHC-2 Beaver, weren't called STOL until after Dornier started marketing the DO-27 as STOL
