Because of the game balance of "throw waves of enemies at the player" combined with enemies just teleporting in, i like to keep up solid back armor, even moving a few points to the backs on heavier mechs, up into the mid 20s (my rule of thumb is take the loose front armor to the back, keeping the front at x0). This allows for taking some back shots when repositioning, and to reduce npcs exploding. I know it's meta to scrape armor from the back, but esp with new players a little more armor on the back can help.
Otherwise a pretty good intro to vanilla (no mods) mw5. Well, excluding the strategic level natch. And i don't recall a mention about pilot skills or lance commands. But still good.

I roll with 10 rear armor. Situational awareness keeps me showing my front to the enemy. I play in 3rd person view. As for enemies exploding, don't stand next to them after they die.

Just stumbled on to this.. but I'm curious.. do you have a setup tutorial showing you how the calibrate devices? I have a thrustmaster flight hotas x, but I can't get it set up the way I want. I want to use the flight stick to steer, but it wants to use it to look around in the cockpit. When I try to recalibrate or remap things, it won't let me set the value. So I was wondering if there is a tutorial showing you how to do that because I've been looking for weeks, and no one seems to have anything. On TH-cam or online period. I'm actually thinking of seeing if the guys who did the VR mod have something because I don't mind the concept of being able to look around in the cockpit. With the VR mod it makes sense I having that set up like that, but I want to use the flight stick to actually steer with. Funny thing it's just a small file on the computer that makes the program work the way it does, but I can't find the right thing or set up. So I was wondering if you had any idea what I'd. Look into or where I should go. Or if anyone else reading this knows. Doing a calibration setup would be a good tutorial if you haven't done one because that might come in helpful.

Unfortunately I can't help you, as I use mouse and keyboard.
I would suggest looking up Father Bill's twitch channel. He is well known in the community and is big into an immersive experience with HOTAS and VR. He is always super helpful. You can try to catch one of his streams, or maybe join his discord: www.twitch.tv/father_bill

Awesome! Glad you liked it. I'm working on a second guide for how to navigate the star map and mission screens, but real life stuff is keeping it pretty delayed.

Always keep moving, 81-100kph is best. Anything above 110 is way too fast. Any speed below 64 is too slow. Instead of spending points on torso upgrade, like rotation speed, you can cheat this by setting the mouse speed in Windows & in the game. All my heavies & assaults turns as fast as any lights, without any torso upgrades. I spend upgrades on faster weapon cycling, damage, & heat cool down. Range & everything else is meh. Armor & structure is good too. But the best defense is a good offense. Kill them first before they kill you.
When approaching enemies, have your legs go toward them. Say the enemy is at 12 o'clock. Your legs heads toward them at either 10-11 or 1-2 o'clock. Your torso is facing 8-9 o'clock, or 3-4 o'clock. When you need to shoot, face them & shoot like he said in the video.
I NEVER use jump jets. Very situational use. There's only 2 missions in the entire game where you need JJ. 1 of them you could just walk to your objective, so really 1 mission where you MUST have JJ.
NONE of these TH-camrs have ever mention using the terrain to your advantage, just like in real combat. Always take the high ground, applies to real life as well, in any combat, like MMA. As the enemies approach you from below, you're able to shoot at them, while they can't fire back, because their weapons will shoot at the ground. So you get 1-2 rounds before the enemies is able to shoot back.
Remember you heard it here from me!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Always concentrate on 1 mech at a time, just like in Starcraft. That 1 zergling with 1 hp will keep hitting you forever.
Skip the fancy weapons, like pulse, streak, chem, artemis. These cost extra tonnage, which you could have used for armor or for cooling.
10 rear armor, max frontal armor. Always present your front when missiles are coming, & wiggle to spread the damage all over.
Watch your heat. Overheating will cook your ammo, regardless of where you placed it.
With enough practice, you can practically do nearly almost every mission 80% by yourself in a Quickdraw, without needing your 3 lancemates.
If you want to learn how to get unlimited C-bills, hundreds of DHS, hundreds of tier 4/5 weapons, watch my video.
