I hope you continue to do these I just picked up this game preferable to MWO and your content is amazing!! Its so detailed and I love how instead of giving us the same ole "slap this on and give it a try" you actually break down your logic for taking things into consideration like heat, sustained combat and so on. Mechwarrior 2 Mercenaries, Mechwarrior 3, and Mechwarrior 4 Vengeance (Fan boy of all of em), these games are actually incredibly deep. On the outside it looks like just two robots going pew pew, but it's so much more than that, it's will this build and the builds of my lance counteract the enemy forces, most times (doing 80 difficulty missions currently), I NEVER get a mission done the first time, but on that note, I am always taking notes (mech chassis I am facing, placement, spawn times, spawn placements), and usually know off the hop what mechs to go get that will get the job done efficiently. Distress Call (9) I haven't struggled in a mission like that in a LONG time but when it finally went down, it was glorious, I managed to keep the city above 80% and me and my entire lance were in the green health wise. I ended up running an atlas,archer,2 variants of Hunchback, placed my lance mates at three points surrounding the city respectively, and simply patrolled between them when they would call out their contacts.
How I like to build an Atlas AS7-D: 1. Leave it as it is. 2. Sit a lancemate into it. 3. Play another mech. Seriously, it's a great mech and one of the few that's fun to play with the stock loadout (maybe put the ammo somewhere else and throw in some double heatsinks), but what I found out in my 12 playthroughs so far is that it's just the perfect assault mech for the AI to control and that it will boost your economy considerably if you do so. And don't get me wrong, I was an avid supporter of the Steiner scout lance for a long time, but as we got more and more interesting assault mechs via DLCs (Corsair e.g. is a beast and you will most likely stop using the Atlas once you get into modding and clan mechs), the less I was using the Atlas myself. But I still like to have a few Atlases for my lancemates for various reasons: 1. It covers all ranges with its weapons, but will still perform well in the brawling meta of vanilla MW5. 2. It will forgive a lot of mistakes (which the AI will do all the time) due to its tankiness. 3. it's super cheap to maintain (you might lose a few arms but what's in there? medium lasers? so who cares...) 4. It has weapons of all types, so pilots will train all skills. 5. The AI can aim that AC20 better than most players. 6. Meanwhile, I like to pilot the squischier mechs that can deal more damage, like that Stalker which turns into an SRM grave everytime you let the AI take control.
This Atlas-D build certainly is very effective. I've had a lot of fun with it on stream with you and have edited some of the mechs in my own game to match this.
I've always thought that the Timber Wolf was the mascot 'mech for the BattleTech universe personally, rather than the Atlas. Maybe that's just because the first game I played in the series was Mechwarrior 2 when I was a little kid, and the Timber Wolf was on the box for that game.
It's debatable. I think the Timberwolf was the mascot Mech more in the past, but in modern times, the Atlas' skull is used as the icon of Battletech these days.
@@GitGudFoxPretty much this. Thanks to MechWarrior 2 the Timberwolf ended up becoming the mascot up until about the time of the Word of Blake's "Holy War" when the fanbase started to drop off thanks to Battletech's creative direction doing things like the FedCom Civil War and the Word of Blake "Holy War." Got worse when they went and did the Dark Age/clicky-tech stuff. Then it started seeing a resurgence first with MWO in the video game space and Catalyst with the tabletop and then with the Battletech video game which I think is really where the Atlas's ugly mug started to become the "face" of the franchise.
I personaly feel like it's better to use a lb10x auto canon or a ac 20 burst and just aim for the head even the heaviest mechs have max 30 head armour so something like a battle master can die in seaconds.
I'm not sure what I would put on if I permitted Lostech on the model. I think I'd still use the heavy rifle though. Hard to pass up 18 damage at the range it can deliver.
I use similar build, but with Gauss rifle. IIRC, there are several high reward missions in mw5 that are available relatively early in the game and have a gauss as a reward. I use my gauss atlases on second and third slot usually - as heavy, armored, long distance damage-delivering walking meatshield.
Heavy Rifle is better than Gauss Rifle. Weighs half as much, same range and damage, and T5 heavy rifles are a lot more commonly given as rewards than T5 Gauss Rifle. But the killing blow to Gauss Rifle is that it's a large ballistic while Heavy Rifle is a medium ballistic. Heavy Rifles are overpowered.
@@GitGudFox Agree and disagree at the same time. Heavy rifle has several disadvantages: low rate of fire, significant heat generation, lower projectile speed and lower amount of ammo per tonn (iirc). If we are looking at tier 5 gauss and HR - this disadvantages are almost not significant: tier 5 rate of fire is 8 rpm vs 12 rpm, heat is 7.75 (like a large laser), projectile speed is 1,500 m\s which is similar to tier 0 gauss with 1600. But on lower tiers, especially tier 0-1, it became problematic: 5-6 rounds per minute is low, 960 m\s projectile speed make an AI miss often, heat burden of 13 is significant without DHs. So, I still prefer Gauss in Dual-Gauss+ERPPC KingCrab due to higher rpm and projectile speed (more headshots). And I will still install Gauss in Atlas - low heat and higher rpm with projectile speed make it more reliable in "loving hands" of Artificial Idiot. At the same time, I enjoy HR on a lot of other mechs - like Vulcan or Hunchee or even Victor and Highlander. It's still a lot of room for personal playstyle and preference though. And, btw, happy new year and new hights for your channel!
@@nooberast5887 7 tons though. So its a good trade off if you want to add other stuff like he did with the LRMs. If you are playing modded HR also takes less slots. Perfect for an Atlas RS.
@@GitGudFoxit’s definitely help to avoid overheating. And 2 Chemical M Laser with Level 5 that deal more damage than regular M Laser. The more i use D version and the more i like it. It’s definitely fit in open area.
It's stupid when they spawn on top of you since you would never risk a dropship for that. Dropships are not invulnerable. A lance of Mechs could cause a lot of damage if not destroy a leopard which costs a fortune.
@@GitGudFox but in MW5, they’re invincible! There’s a lot of subtle improvements like that which I hope they make for Clans. I love the engine it’s running on, the mechs (mostly) look awesome. (I kinda wish the cockpit glass could be seen through )
Thank you, I hope it helps! This design has been heavily battle tested on my streams and used not just by me but by my community as well, so it's a pretty well tested design.
In most cases yeah. If you look at them side by side, their stats are very similar, but the heavy rifle weighs half as much. It fits a medium hardpoint, so you can put it on more Mechs (large ballistic is not common). It's also more common to get cantina missions for T5 quality Heavy Rifles. It does generate way more heat, but you could easily put on 7-8 heatsinks for the space you save on a Heavy Rifle.
An AC5. I would recommend at least buying Heroes of the Inner Sphere since it gets you the largest quantity of weapons and 6 more Mechs. It also adds career mode. Campaign mode is garbage. I wouldn't even play MW5 Mercs if I had no choice but to play campaign mode.
My guide of atlas: don't use AS7-D, find AS7-RS then advance your game with it because PPC + LRM10 combo is my king combo. AS7-RS setup like this: half of my mech will follow Combo 1 for close range : ballistic slot: AC2-BF + 1 ton ammo treated like a long range machine gun, small missile slot: SRM 4 + 1 ton ammo treated like a little shotgun, energy slot: L laser because cooler than LP Laser, all of them shoot in the same time you can do all the chopping light legs and headpopping those heavy and assault head off easy. The other half of my AS7-RS is my king combo: 1 energy slot for PPC(recommended ER version and equipped in right arm for an easier aim) treated like rifle mean you play tactical stuff with them like pop down some building before getting close to their base in Demolition and Scorch Earth shooting vehicle far away or shoot Objective mechs in Assassination , 1 large missile slot for LRM10 with 1 ton ammo for soften dem mech that seem dangerous for you (locked then shoot only). This setup make your Atlas a multirole assault mech that you don't need to think for your lancemates much, you just need to spam this setup until your final game ❤❤❤
You could do the final mission against the 3 lances of heavy/assault with 1 Firestarter-A, the variant with 8 energy slot. Fill it with 8 flamers. Wreck any heavy/assault in under 5 seconds.
@@GitGudFox I use mod: Coyote mission pack. This mod implements new mission types where it is possible to get high tier weapons including GR. Some cantina missions have GR as a reward and it is also get GR as rare weapon in the industrial hubs. Yes, it is heavier but also more heat efficient and has faster reload time.
Yeah man - at least the way mw5 uses rifles in game, the heavy rifle is my go to replacement for the ac20 most of the time - hits just as hard and all that extra range; yeah the rof is a lot slower but you really want to call all your shots with a gun that heavy and hot to begin with…if I wanna shoot fast, I’ll pack an ac10. Imo the ac20-bf is basically garbage and the rf is even worse. The only ac20 worth a damn is the standard as if the shot connects you do full damage, but again, is it worth the extra 4 tons and severe range penalty? I’d say no. In standard battletech the rifles are nerfed considerably vs auto cannons so the comparison isn’t valid at all, but in mw5, the heavy rifle is where it’s at imo.
Normally I prefer the AC5 as a standard cannon. This was an unusual case as I typically won't use heavy rifles as a single weapon, but it still worked here. I typically only use heavy rifles in at least pairs since it gives you a realistic instant headshot chance.
@ truth. While I generally won’t pair autocannons together bc of the recoil, 2 or even 3 rifles can make for some serious tomfoolery. Makes the rifleman both more accurate of a name and a hell of a lot more dangerous imo.
Thanks!
