    Zeos, I doubt you'll give much consideration to this comment, but (as others have requested) can you please make some sort of a brief M1060 mod video where you at least discuss the specific modifications you implemented? I don't expect a tutorial, although it would be nice, but I am curious to know what you did to improve upon what are already amazing sounding headphones. Also, it would be awesome if you could discuss how your mods actually change the sound. As always though, great content.

      I covered them on my live stream but I can re-iterate. The balanced cables are a given. The rear foam I removed and then changed out thinner. The 3D printed Fazor arrays are just attached with Fun-Tac right over the openings inside and out of the driver slots. They add SOMETHING to the sound. Maybe calm it down a bit. Custom covers with the Z logo were sent with the fazors.

    Got mine yesterday, did 12 hours of burn in (I'm not a huge believer, but why not). Initially thought they were very dark and then found the included 1/4" adapter doesn't see to make the best connection. Clicked into place with full contact, the signal cleared up a bit. Make sure you seat and unseat it a few times to loosen up, and give it a twist to make sure it making full contact.
    Even with that out of the way, I'd say the assessment from various other reviews holds true. The drivers are a bit to close to the ear, for me at least, resulting in a bit of a muddy, bass heavy presentation. The current recommendation is to spend $30 on replacement pads, or...
    Pro-Tip: grab some double-sided velcro, cut them to size, and put them in between the stock pads. The added thickness is just enough to give the needed distance to balance the highs. Let me know how you decide to spend the $29.96 this tip saves you.
    Tip came from mechcentric
    on the massdrop forum. Credit where credit is due, and I'm sure others have come up with this solution too.

    I actually said, out loud, in my house, "VELCRO?" As soon as he started ripping off the pads. That is some of the weirdest shit I've ever seen on a headphone. The last thing I'd expect by far.

      YES. I doubt he will, but I would really like to see that. Even just a quick video discussing the mods he implemented. A brief tutorial would be even better. I know there are forums that discuss M1060 mods, but I want someone who has demonstrated they actually know something about audio (Zeos) to discuss them. DSM3 also did an M1060 mod video, but I want to know what Zeos actually did.

    When the stock pads on my m560s wore out I cut them open and took out the plastic ring with the magnets and pins. I put the rings into some brainwavz pads and they attach like the original ones now. The bigger pads are great btw, much more comfortable than the original small ones.

    I would now love to see a mod where someone transplants the M1060 drivers into the M560 body so that we have a headphone with superior sound quality from the bigger drivers of the M1060 with the better build quality and design of the M560s with the features of the M560 (Convertible Open/Closed back and dual 3.5mm jacks and outlets that accept either side.

  • @LanceTSR
    @LanceTSR 5 ปีที่แล้ว

    I have the M560 and you can change the pads if you glue some magnets, from a hdd circle for example, cut some cardboard disk (with a big hole for the sound in the center) and mount the new pads into the disk, just be careful when you glue the magnets to the cardboard disk, because there are three magnets in the headphone cup that hold the pads and need to be aligned with the glued magnets.

    Nice review. I completely agree about the in your face nature of these. Perfect example of just being way too close to a big speaker. Staging just felt not right, especially when using them to watch a film. Lots of detail. Not neutral, but not too v shaped either.

    Had to choose between the m560s and m565 recently. I couldn't afford the 1060s so the cheaper model seemed to be the best choice. Took one look at the build quality of th 565s and said, 'nope.' I have bad luck with headphones, most of mine break in a year from structural problems... now maybe that was from me never having 'real headphones' but for my first pair of 'real headphones' I wanted to buy something which I know wouldn't break in a year. The 565s look like they will break in 4 months. Can't throw 200 dollars out the window like that.
    Anyways, I'm really happy with my 560s. Best sounding headphones I ever used, the gen 2 pads suck but I can live with it. and the build quality... oh boy, I get a smile on my face every time I pick them up because they feel incredible to hold.
    The cynical side of me says the 565s are a thing because they wanted their cheaper model to have a similar structure to their expensive model in-order to cut down on manufacturing costs. It's also embarrassing that their cheaper model (the 560s) are built better than their 1060s. Glad I got them before they stopped selling the 560s in favor of the 565s.

    Monoprice should be watching so they can do a better job upgrading the M1060. I think that's bound to happen probably by this time next year.
    I just hope that housing the drivers a little bit further away helps even more with an already acceptable soundstage. Of course, they have to do some tweaks to preserve the tuning.

    I recently got m560 the new pads have a tiny m1060 looking earhole now which sucks. However stock they also come with a hole in them on the inside exposing foam for what the original hd 598 where like on the headband. Its air ride to make them feel softer. However i think they are thicker. They also dont have any sort of layer between you and the driver cover.

    • @hoekersmoker5196

      I wonder if i could peel the pad off the magnetic plastic plate that is on the back of the earpad then glue new pads on.

    I'm looking at maybe going with the Sennheiser 558's as my next headphones as I'm wanting some more bass compared to my current m40x's. I still want them to be nice in the mids and highs, but I want a more in the lows and based on your review of them, they seem like the best option. Is there a closed pair of headphones that you can recommend in the $100-$150 range that I don't have to replace the pads, maybe not even the cable if possible(I want a pair of headphones that has a detachable cable), but if that's not possible then ok. But I don't want to be needing to go over $200 for a full setup of headphones, cable, and case for portable use. If nothing comes to your mind then ok cuz I went to you recommendations on reddit and I couldn't find anything there so I didn't know if there's a pair I'm missing or whatever. Thanks.

    • @adictsvhs998
      @adictsvhs998 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Samuel Martinez Beyerdynamic Custom Studio. $163 on Amazon, sometimes as low as $120 on eBay. You can control the level of bass and the cable is detachable. They are also closed back. I love mine.

    • @samuelmartinez1228
      @samuelmartinez1228 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      I could go with those, but my worry is that I haven't had the chance to try a pair of Beyerdynamic's and I don't quite know what that "Beyerdynamic highs" Zeos has talked about in the past is like and I don't know if I'll like it or be ok with it. What's the sound stage like on them? Are they like the Custom Street's that he reviewed(in all aspects)? Other than the obvious over-the-ear instead of on-the-ear.

    • @adictsvhs998
      @adictsvhs998 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Samuel Martinez I haven't tried the Custom Street myself. Soundstage is not huge because they're closed back, but they're reliable for gaming. Instrument separation is there (imaging.) If anything, you can buy them and if you don't like them, return them. You have to remember that everyone has different preferences, don't just go off of what a reviewer says. Go out and try different cans and find which ones suit you best. I have heard of the Beyerdynamic highs and have also heard that the Custom Studio takes care of that issue. It's ultimately up to you though.

    So like most I like music and love headphones and Im about to get the Sony 1000x, obe thing though, I read some reviews where a guy teplaced them 3 times becausd of imbalance where the right side had more vocals than the left
    Now I want to know if thats normal on hedphones or if Im partialpy deaf, no matter what headphones I use I have to manually adjust the levels on my phone so that the sound is balanced, I have to make more sound to be louder on the left side but it still sounds off, vocals still are right balanced but bass and instruments are louder on the left, dont know how or when this happened, just all of the sudden music was louder on my right side

    • @jonathanespinoza4954
      @jonathanespinoza4954 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      I have to do this whit my M50x, V-moda M100s, Beats Pro, Beats Studio, MDR XB950BT and many other headphones I have, all of them have to be adjusted differently to sound balanced, so am I deaf or is it maybe my phone?

    • @jonathanespinoza4954
      @jonathanespinoza4954 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Also also, when I put the slider on the middle, the right side sound way loud while the left has almost nothing, and when I balance it, sound quality goes down, theres less bass and less louder, for someone who loves good quality sound and thay has spend thousands on equipment, this is basically a nightmare for me

    Did you just put on Dekoni pads? If so, no wonder you were too close. Stock pads as you showed barely show light and are much thicker and roll off things. Dekoni is super thin and yes will be big time in your face. To get the best of both worlds put the dekonis over the stock pads!

      the hexx, amazing build quality for the $$. They are very similar to the 1060s, but IMO more high end. Pad are not quite as nice.

      Zenith. They feel like headphones many times their price. The sound is similar to the 1060s but a little more bright.

      I mean... if you're looking for cheap planars, the 1060s are quite nice. They have a bottomless bass presence.
