- For a moment House believed he was being help by Cuddy with his addiction to vicodin but` it turns out this was just another one of his hallucinations.

Season 5 Episode 24 "Both Sides Now"
House and the team are intrigued by Scott (Ashton Holmes), a man who has undergone a corpus callosotomy procedure to treat epilepsy. Due to this, both sides of his brain are at war for dominance over the body resulting in him having Alien Hand Syndrome where he can't control his left arm. At the same time Cuddy and House try to deal with their relationship after spending the night at his apartment. The next day, House tells Wilson that he has stopped taking drugs and had sex with Cuddy, to which Wilson responds "Wow". But he also tells him that Cuddy may be repressing her feelings for him, and is trying to avoid him. Finally House realizes that his night with Cuddy and her helping him to stop his addiction to Vicodin was all an elaborate hallucination. With his hallucinations spiraling out of control, House is forced to go into a mental health facility after becoming unable to tell fantasy from reality.

I like how this entire episode is filmed hand held, shaky cam up until until he realizes he's hallucinating. Subtling telling people something is off

I was annoyed about the shaky camera, this point helps.
The camera actually is unstable throughout the series, not just when Houe is onscreen.

There was no lipstick on the cup because there was no lipstick anywhere. Not on House's face or on Cuddy's lips. Also, the tube of lipstick that House pulled out of his pocket was imaginary. He was actually holding a bottle of Vicodin. He hadn't really detoxed.

This show really shows addiction can affect anyone, even geniuses. And there's nothing wrong to see it as what it is, a sickness.

Stop acting as if humans aren't complex and there isn't a myriad of reasons why a disease happens to people. They haven't chosen to get the disease and therefore get treated the same as any other sick people. Nobody volunteers for terrible diseases and having flaws doesn't make you deserving of pain and suffering. I hope you don't work with anything more complex than making bricks.
If you listen closely, when house moves you can hear the rattle of his vicodin, despite his claims that he stopped taking it

Marian Sony it was oxycodone, you could see the label on the bottle House has when he realizes he’s hallucinating.

@@goobins_jr actually, it is Vicodin. The label never shows oxycodone, it shows part of what might end in codone, to which another name of Vicodin is hydrocodone.

I cant stand his tentative smile when she starts laughing at the idea of her moving in with him. He has no idea in that moment that she's laughing at his absurdity and not laughing with him. Ugh, breaks my heart.

What if the addiction isn't the reason he's hallucinating....
Think about it the whole show is about diagnosing and suddenly the main character starts to do what most patients do... My guess is brain tumor. From the episodes IV seen drugs never have this effect. Something is in his brain.
I love the camera work in this episode. It shakes when he is delusional, and straight when he is focused.

This is proof that Wilson was Houses best friend. The fact is that everytime Wilson thought House was harming himself, he stepped in and talked to Cuddy. When he thought stepping in might keep his friend from finding the relationship he actually needed, he didn't. Turns out, it was just bad timing.
I love the look on Cuddy’s face when she realized what House did.

This episode. This one hit harder than I could've imagined.
I knew it was a Season finale. I knew it was going somewhere. So to see an already depressing season end with such a gutpunch really hit harder because of how everything seemed to be looking up.

When I heard him announce this the first time, my jaw was hanging open and I was wide eyed in shock. Then Cuddy came out of her office and looked at house and I said "He is soooo dead."

I love how after cuddy looks up at house, all of the staff, everyone: all of the people run away. Lol.
I like watching wilson and seeing how complex of a character he is when he uses his super power of analysing everyone's emotions and intentions on the fly.

I think everything happened within context of the two other people involved being different to House because is hallucinating evidence of something he think happened. So the conversations between House and Wilson could be real as Wilson full well knows this has always been a thing and as far as he knows, they slept together. He has no reason not to believe House.
Some people seem to be thinking be questioning entire situations beyond the initial Cuddy hallucination but really I think the only thing shown to be real to House only is the lipstick and it's remnants. In all reality, it's his vicodin. There is no lipstick. So could easily be missed when Wilson assumes the opposite. He doesn't say, "look at this tube of lipstick", so there wouldn't be an obvious reason to suspect otherwise.

The best part of this episode is watching it back once you know the ending and seeing all the conversations with Cuddy from her point of view.
There are severfal beautiful women on this show Cuddy is my favorite. Cuddy is a rare beauty.
Wilson played him dirty, he so totally knew Cuddy liked House.

The thing is they did sleep together back in med school and so that’s what cuddy thinks house is referring to when he shouts it from the balcony. It’s clever because she feels like he betrayed an old secret of theirs rather than just flat out lying, so it hurts deeper

The last clip they uploaded yesterday about the hallucinations makes a lot more sense with this scene for context.
What are you talking about? House wasn't Lucid Dreaming. He began taking the too much of his medicine to deal with physical and emotional pain. He ups the dosage so much that he begins having hallucinations, and soon cannot tell the difference between his hallucinations and reality

This isn't the hallucination, having sex with Cuddy was the hallucination. This is the morning and days after the hallucination.
Basically, he thinks they had sex, but they didn't. They simply had a small argument in which he insulted her. But, House is now hounding her to get her to talk about the sex, but of course, she's not acknowledging the sex, since she has no idea that that even (supposedly) happened. She merely thinks he's hounding her because of the argument and the insult. That's why, in the beginning, she says, "We need to talk." She was talking about the argument, while he thought she was talking about the sex.
In other words, they're both on two separate pages thoughout the whole episode, and neither one realizes it.

This particular script writing was even more brilliant than the regular brilliant script writing. The actors certainly help the case for a terrific show, but the true brilliance is in the writing.
This is the most I've laughed out loud in a long time. HOUSE was a mainstream show that managed to be smart and funny.
I don't know if it's just coincidental but I've noticed that in other clips, the cameras tend to use some sort of motion stabilizer to keep the image steady. In this clip however, the scenes where House appears look to have been recorded intentionally shaky, not sure if it's a given but felt it was worth pointing out.
Feels like a huge hint about which parts of the episode are actually hallucinations.
Thus show its amazing 🙌

You can only imagine how many times she wanted to fire him before that moment, and how satisfying it must have been for her to actually have the perfect opportunity and execute it. That laugh just feels like the weight she's been bearing was finally lifted.
Hands down, one of the best episodes to have ever been created - Hugh Laurie and Lisa Edelstein are probably the best relationship TV portail I have seen.

I adore this show, but this episode broke me. I think I was in depression for weeks back then. I loved them so much.
Honestly, the advice in this show is awful sometimes. He should just tell her he loves her. Plain and simple. She loved him, and to see him, get serious, get emotional and confess his feelings to her genuinely would blow her mind.

Because nobody talked to each other about it. Thats why he ended up being the one to notice
He only spoke to Wilson about it and obviously he believed House because House was being genuine. House was alluding to it the entire time to Cuddy, but she thought that was just House as he always does that. No one else would've known, and by rehab everyone did find out; it was just not mentioned (Cuddy knew since she told her detective boyfriend and he rambled about it briefly)
