    Something about mountains just calms me. Such incredible beauty formed over millions and billions of years.

      Mountains really are amazing! They calm me too, and yet, mountains can be dangerous too. Such a paradox!

      @@MarkDumbleton From Nottingham Road this morning there is snow visible on top of the Berg. I reckon we will see lots of snow this winter and it may be a bumper season for snow photography. Up Masubasuba Pass and down Stones Pass North x 4 days of mountain photography.... Be blessed Mark.

    Wonderful stuff Mark. Brings back memories of UCT Mountain & Ski Club days back in the 80's & early 90''s - one hike we did was up to Ndumeni Dome in winter, waist-deep snow & had to stay an extra night in a small cave at the top with heavy snow & sleet, having to warm up our gas for the camping stoves with body heat otherwise it would not light at minus 15degC with strong wind, quite an experience. Photography was on slide film. At least water was plentiful, just grabbed snow from the ground or rock faces. And no trail visible in the snow with us only finding the cave given away by a small hole which we widened out to be able to enter.

      @MarkDumbleton  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks so much for the detailed comment mate. That trip you describe sounds crazy! I’m planning on trying to get up this year for some snow. The Ndumeni Dome is a beautiful area. Which cave did you guys stay in?

    • @MikeLangfordGoogle
      @MikeLangfordGoogle 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hey Mark, yes, the good 'ol days :) I believe there are 2 caves up there - we were in the small one, just about fitted 7 people, really tight, curved floor, like sleep in a barrel. I woke up with a sore back & found I had been sleeping on my torch, a large pre-led version :)

    • @MarkDumbleton
      @MarkDumbleton  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Ah ok. Haha nothing like sleeping on a piece of gear :) Probably Ndumeni Cave or Roland’s Cave. Such a beautiful area!

    • @MikeLangfordGoogle
      @MikeLangfordGoogle 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes, fantastic area, we walked down alongside a waterfall that was barely running - I almost walked clean off the rock face as the snow & mist blended so well! Nippyl but nice weather to hike in - preferred that a couple of 5-day Cedarberg hikes in sweltering hot sun & little water.

    Outstanding photography you must of experienced, thanks a million for bringing it to us the viewers…. Not an abundance of wildlife up there? Or is it hard to get a camera on whatever is there?

    • @MarkDumbleton
      @MarkDumbleton  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I really appreciate that. It’s a pleasure sharing the story with people who appreciate it. There is very little wildlife up there, rarely seen. There is some amazing bird life up there, mainly Vultures and Birds of Prey.

    • @MarkDumbleton

      Hi Shawn, I take enough with me to last the trip. I take 1 battery per day. I do have a small power bank I use to charge my phone and headlamp.
