The Fiat They Should Have Started With | 2020 Fiat 500x

  • Fiat's re-launch in America hasn't exactly gone according to plan. There were some quality stumbles early on but I think the biggest problem was the product. Small hatches just don't sell well here, but crossovers sure do and that's where the 500X comes in. With a standard turbo engine and standard AWD, this Fiat is exactly what America is interested in right now. Unfortunately I'm not sure much of America knows it exists.

    I love my 2020 Fiat 500X Trekking with a few options that was discounted to 21K. I wanted something that didn't look like what everyone else is driving, and I have been very happy with it so far! Now, before I hear all the comments about Fiat reliability, let me say that before getting my 500X, I had a 2012 Abarth, then a 2017 500L, and never had any issues with any of the three. All I ever did to any of them was basic maintenance.

      21K?! That is a steal! Yeah. For me, we have more 500X than the Renegade. I chose the Renegade back in 2015 because 500X were selling for at least 2K to 3K more for than the Renegade and they were FWD. So I didn't get one. The interior is hellah cool lol. Congrats! No problems! For me it's just the tire sensors. But it drives perfectly fine lol.

    For all those Fiat haters:
    I used to own two Fiats. One Ritmo which I sold to a friend and a Uno. Both have been on roadtrips all over europe. They were between 10 and 15 years old and had no issues. My Uno drove me and some friends to Danmark, Wales, Scotland, England, Barcelona, Monaco, Firenze and Rome. No issues. Both were great cars especially the Uno.
    My sister bought a Fiat 500 in 2009 with no issues neither. Just regular maintance like oil and brakes.
    There have been all those stereotypes about Fiat in Germany since the 60's as well: Fehlerhaft In Allen Teilen (defective in all parts) or Fehl Import Aus Turin (wrong import from Torino). But my father was an mechanic for cars and always had to do with Mercedes, VW and Audi. But he always said his best car was his Fiat 124 in which he, my mom and my older sister made a road trip to Portugal within 6000 miles without any issues back in the 70's.

      When people talk about "reliability" they are talking about how likely they could be a lemon. You have a higher chance of getting a lemon at a Fiat dealership (about 1 in 100) then a Toyota dealership (1 in 3000)
      That's all reliability ratings mean from outlets like Edmund's and KBB, practically every modern car will last a long time if taken care of properly and if they where built properly... Well all main stream cars, new Mercedes, & BMW are crap! They build their cars to only last 4-5 years (because over 80% of their customers lease their cars)

    I have an orange 2019 500X with the 1.3 turbo, it has been 100% reliable and fun so far. It is cute but it is also good in snow, the 7.9 inches of ground clearance is nice also. The engine feels quick with plenty of torque, 210 ft lbs. Dealers are discounting thousands off list. So far Im very satisfied! Also it has remote start standard which is nice when its cold out!

    • @canto_v12
      @canto_v12 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@Manny-lc1mf I can’t speak for the 500x, but they seem to have below average reliability. That said, like many European brands, they are sensitive to consistent maintenance schedules so whether that’s a worthwhile trade off for having something more unique, is up to you. They’re not terrible, but they won’t be as reliable as a Toyota.

      500E is overweight, underpowered, overpriced, and under ranged. 500 Abarth is a much better car, can get low mileage used ones for $9K, but America just didn't really need tiny city cars that were manual transmission only and wanted crossovers.

Good to see Alex is now slipping in a bit-O-humor in most episodes.

Restyle this and make it a bit nicer and more powerful and you might actually have something people want, badged as a Chrysler.

    Out of the group the Mazda CX3 and KIA Seltos are the best looking. The Jeep version looks better than the Fiat. Overall, the Fiat brand does not have the best reputation for build quality so I don't really see a compelling reason for selecting the Fiat 500 over the competition. This is a significant purchase and if you add the burden of build quality and reliability issues then the long term situation is not ideal. I tend to keep my vehicles for as long as I can, this does not appear to the safe bet.

I live in an area with a population of about 3 million, and there is only 1 Chrysler dealer left that carries Fiat, and it currently has only 6 new Fiats, 4 500xs and 2 Spiders. In the same area there are 4 Mitsubishi dealers, each with 20-50 new cars in stock. Hell even the Alpha Dealer has 40 new cars in stock.
