Rich's 455 Big Block 1965 Buick Skylark "GS" needs work! Water pump, cooling, and Pypes Exhaust!

  • Sometimes Rich even takes some time in his busy production schedule in the shop to steal a couple days for himself and his own projects, and that's what we have in today's episode. Many of you probably have never seen this big bad Buick of Rich's, it's been relaxing for almost a year in storage but it's finally getting some attention!
First off, let's cover some honest basics. This is NOT a Buick GranSport. It IS a 1965 Buick Skylark however that has been given some spiffing up with GranSport goodies and a very health 455 Buick big block under the hood. Before it came into our ownership this car actually had done quite a bit of drag racing so it's pretty well free of most creature comforts, no power steering, no power brakes, no radio... just a big rumbling V8 under the hood and red paint to make it go faster!
Unfortunately over the years it's developed a couple issues we can finally start to tackle, the first "small" batch of those being replacing the leaking and unhappy water pump as well as the rather rusty and slightly "holy" exhaust. Fortunately there are parts for that! We ended up sourcing a Pypes exhaust kit through our good friends at Jegs to replace the old stuff and it no only fixed the holes and cabin sound but gives it a pretty great sound out the rear!
Huge thanks as always to all our subscribers, followers, fans, and customers who have made our business successful and gotten our channel to where it is today. Special thanks to the SRC / Street Racing Channel / SRC Garage / Old Man's Garage / Junkyard Digs folks for showing such amazing support for us over the past several months. Without all of you we wouldn't be anywhere near where we are today. We hope you enjoy this one!

@@LucoreAuto I used to see this olds around 64-65 every time I went to the ford training center in Cincinnati. First time I drove up in the morning and though that’s cool, but the next two times I had to go up there I’d see it on the interstate. It was kinda rough, but complete looking. Just blew my mind to see someone daily driving it. It was a cool ride though!

Car went 11:20@ 4200# in the 1/4 , with a 4:10 Chevelle 12 bolt I also installed. Had it painted and used a GSX front and rear spoiler and finished it with Auto Drag Centerline wheels .

What, no power ratchet? Also, why didn't you check the correct application for that specific engine? The water pump is shorter because of the Skylark body. 400 and 455 Buick engines are basically the same. Thus 400 and 455 engines use the same water pump other than shaft length according to the car's body.
