- Join me as I take my trusty Mitsubishi Pajero out to the rugged terrain of the Glasshouse Mountains. But there's a twist - I've recently installed a rear differential locker, and I'm itching to put it to the test against the standard traction control system.

If you're an off-road enthusiast or considering upgrading your vehicle's off-road capabilities, this video is a must-watch. - ยานยนต์และพาหนะ
Diff lock is great but wow traction control is impressive on theses Pajero :) my old NP Exceed didn't have any lockers but never got stuck it was very able.
Pretty good 🙌🏼
A good tip for those Pajero owners with only traction control. Ride the brakes a little bit when TC kicks in. It actually boosts the ability and control of the vehicle. You'd be suprised
Cheers mate 🍻
@@southo69 Exactly... The rear diff is good but he's definitely making TC work very hard by stopping at the hardest point of the obstacle...
14:33 good sales video for diff lock, drive it correctly and you don't need diff lock.
@stevenp542 A locked diff will take you further than traction control mate 💯😃
@southo69 Not like I backed off on purpose mate. What you see on video is not always what it actually looks like. When the car lifts a wheel or comes down too quick you feel out of control.
What a great demonstration of rear lockers vs traction control. I have a Jeep Wrangler Sport 4 door. It didn't come with a rear or front locker. But now I see how much a locker would help. You did some pretty tippy stuff out there while in view of trees with scars from someone making contact. Even though I don't have a Pajero, I subscribed and of course liked your video. Happy Trails from Arizona.
Thanks for the awesome comment mate, lockers make things easier and you have a lot more control of the vehicle. Thanks for the sub 🙂💯
I've watched a few TH-cam videos looking for tips on using the rear diff lock on my Pajero and have to say that yours did a truly excellent job for me - thanks!
Awesome mate glad to help 😊💯
Enjoyed the vid. I haven’t used the factory rear locker much but will be using it more after watching your video. I have owned a Pajero for five years now. Thanks for uploading this video.
Awesome no worries 🙂💯
It isn't easy, but try to be smoother with the throttle with the TCS and don't back off as soon as it starts to work. The TCS also works better with a little momentum, it is asking a lot to make a wheel turn from stationary just by using the brakes to transfer power. TCS also works better in more slipper conditions and you will retain full steering and not have the rear trying to step out or slide sides if both wheel spin when using a locker. Lastly TCS will work across an axle when the wheel speed side to side is different. With the locker engage you won't get different wheel speeds, so the TCS will not function on that axle.
What a good video for demonstrating the pros of it
Thanks mate 💯
17min 48sec is a classic case of not following "as slow as possible, but as fast as necessary". A little more momentum and it would likely have walked up with TCS. Coming to a stop when you loose traction and then backing off each time the TCS tries to engage is a surefire way of failing to climb a hill.
Funny enough I wasn't going faster. Yes it definitely looks like it but its not what happened. With TC on only the car struggled at the start of the hill to gain momentum as there were ruts and the car lost traction. Locker on with the same amount of throttle had no loss of traction and just went straight through the ruts like it weren't there, looking like I went faster. Did the hill again after that slower and still climbed. Don't judge things you see on camera. It may not look always what it seems 🙂🙌🏼
Good test! In these conditions but with mud traction control means be stuck, not "worse control". Diff lock most times means go ahead. You made the right think. I would like diff lock even in front :).
Exactly right mate, cheers 💯🔥
Hi...very nice video...thumbs UP
I have a Pajero 2018 ..long version, I'm excited
I wish you many good kilometers
Thanks matey same to you 🙂👌🏼
6:20 I took out the front sway bar in my soft offroader and the difference is very much noticeable
Very good for offroad
Fantastic
🤙🏼🤙🏼🤙🏼
Do you have a video how to install aftermarket the rear lock on to traction control version Pajero. And when i go buying pajero how to find there is no read lock from the dashboard or on the switch knob.
I have the video installing a factory diff lock from another pajero onto mine. Factory diff lock models will have a swtch by the gear knobs.
I got a 2007 GLX.
The diff lock makes a massive difference.
I wonder how the car would have performed if you had traction control off AND did not use the diff lock. Just low range.
Will you consider trying this and making a video.
Thanks for making this video.
Was really cool.
No worries mate 💯🙂 yeah look I reckon the car won't be capable without TC or diff lock. It has minimal flex so once you lift a wheel you're in trouble 💯
Lekker boerseun!
Da vat hy 😄🤙🏼
Your demo really shows the advantage of a rear locker combined with front traction control. If you have a late model Pajero that comes with factory rear locker as standard, turning the locker on disabled front traction control. In this setting the rear can often slide sideways. Getting the traction control mod to keep front traction control on with rear locker on is well worth it.
But sometimes with both you still need to winch😂
Thanks, Phillip! Yes, it works well together 😜💯
Haha, yep, I guess it won't help everywhere 😆
Insane difference. Good test 👍. My exceed came with the factory locker and its definitely made some difficult situations look easy. Love the vid 🤙
Mate so good right! Blown away how much easier the obstacles become 💯
Great footage and even better testing to show how much better a rear locking diff is to the paj traction control. Well done!
Thanks mate appreciate it 💯
Any chance you could make a seat runner extension so I can put the drivers seat further back, thanks
Lots of work involved for that I reckon mate. Better off putting other seats and rails in
Great visual comparison. It's pretty amazing seeing the difference between traction control and lockers did.
Thanks mate! Yeah I was very impressed 💯
Hi was just wondering how difficult was it to find the diff with the locker .👍great Chanel
Thanks matey dm sent 💯🔥
Great testing
Thanks for sharing 👍😎
Cheers cobba 😊💯
You seem to be pumping the gas peddle, backing off when it slips. The brake lock diffs in the traction control are designed to kick in with a low but consistent pedal.
Ah man - awesome video, have been waiting to see the results! Looks like an excellent improvement, will definitely follow suit with mine! Just have to be cautious with the rear traction and diff lock enabled situation, as I think when the rear wheels slip like at 11:34, the brakes would be engaged. Would need to be a driver focus point during offroading - but better have it than not!
Good job!
Cheers matey 😜💯
🔥🔥🔥 the difference is insane! Awesome content 👏
Thank you 😊💯
Did they make center locking diff on the 1999 pajero io?
They come standard with it 🙌🏼
for even more control look into installing VLads traction control mod
I've got my own 😃💯
can you turns your traction control off when you need to?
@@budget4x4life
Awesome video! Those rims are very nice also
Thanks heaps matey 🙃
Have you thought about putting an auto lokka in the front diff? Would be a weapon for $699
If you have the traction switch you can retain traction control in the front and locker in the rear so not necessary. You will also loose the ability to drive in 4H in the rain etc 🙂
@@budget4x4life i will have to order one of the modules from your linked store. I have a late 2009/10 NT with factory rear diff lock
@@BennyBestt No worries cheers mate 🙃
Looking for a diff lock over here near Esperance, great demo
💯🔥
I haven't got a diff lock yet but it's still impressive and gets through it well with the traction control.👍
That's great mate! They go well just got to pick the line right and go for it 😃💯
So is the rear locker only engaged through the obstacle itself then disengaged until you get to another obstacle or do you leave it on? Cheers
I was testing the car with TC first and then tried the locker at the hardest point of the obstacles to see what difference it makes. Only use the locker when you need it 🙂
@@budget4x4life thanks mate. I never really took any notice until now when I'm going to be in the market for a Paj with a heap of extra gear to add on
Where did you get your snorkel?
On our website budget4x4life.com 🤩
I have a LWB NW, and have just acquired a factory rear locking diff, and axles to match as soon as I source the actuation compressor and give it a good clean up it's going in ! I've also ordered a front e-locker.. if you ever do a big trip west hit me up!
Awesome David it will be a beast 😍🔥
Cheers will fo for sure! I want to see west soooo bad!
Good test😊
Cheers Dave 🔥
What size tyres are you running?
275 65 18
@@budget4x4lifeHi mate, does the 275/65/18 tyre fit in your spare wheel carrier?
May i know what brand of tires are you using?
Falken Wildpeaks Atw3 tyres 🙂
Daai ausie aksent! Eish
Haha met eish ja 😄
Ride your brakes if you dont have a diff lock
DANGEROUS advice saying use neutral in reverse on a hill!!!!! 🙁You should use reverse and engine braking the same way you would if coming down forwards. If you have an auto you can actually leave it in 1st and apply a small amount of throttle and allow the torque converter to brake for you with the engine. Using neutral is not safe or good advice.
I disagree mate. My car has a lot of torque and literally pushes the car down hill. This happened a few times now, even going forward downhill I put it sometimes in N so the car doesn't push, having more stress on the brakes. If you leave it in D same thing no chance it will roll back cause of the torque. Other cars may be differen, but I have way more control in N as the car doesn't want to run away with me. With a manual, you can put it in reverse, and as soon as the car goes, you press clutch in anyway. Depends on the gearing of the vehicle too if your car will go slow or in my case the auto just wants to run. That's just my opinion and has been tested numerous times offroad. Take your car and see how it responds in all situations and go with the best method. 💯
