    My brothers Pajero and my Sport both have Mitsubishis Super Select system which I believe takes care of a lot of this via selecting which mode you want depending on the surface that you're on.
    In sand mode it will hold about 2300 rpm which is about peak torque and it seems to switch off most of the traction control as it seems to have no issues with spinning the wheels in the sand.
    I'll be taking it on to a beach later this year, hopefully, so I will have a play but they are pretty damn capable if you even just let the electronics do their job.

    • @budget4x4life
      @budget4x4life  ปีที่แล้ว

      Those super select systems are very smart. I've heard a few people saying it goes well in sand mode and doesn't interfere. Sometimes it's good to have the newer tech😄💯

      @@budget4x4life Yeah it's good but I've still managed to bury it a couple of times.
      I am actually really surprised at how good the high 4wd (AWD) mode is as well.
      I was driving mine on some desert tracks that were really good so I switched it back to that mode to give the centre diff and motor an easier time of it on a solid surface.
      I got half way up a hill and there was a dirty great patch of soft sand.
      I thought I was screwed as it started to bog down but then you could feel it start to shift power to the front as well and it dragged itself out.
      Did the same a bit later on a boggy patch that another 4wd we were with struggled with even when configured properly and with a good driver.
      I keep hearing from old skool "good" 4wd'ers how they can do it better but I'm yet to see anyone who can feed power to any wheel in a split second or brake any wheel as needed independently.😁😁

      @@budget4x4life Yeah the rev limiter and I did a course when I bought ours and there was an unlocked older 4wd that has quite a good reputation when off road.
      We went over a crossing that lifted a front and rear wheel off the ground and that was the end of it.
      Had to tow it out.
      I drove mine in and it just went through without any fuss at all.

    Hey, loved your video, but with central differential locked and ESC turned off with the button, you should not have any problem on sand. TC does not shut off engine, ESC does. Thanks for sharing!

    • @budget4x4life
      @budget4x4life  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hey, Matey, the TC and ABS kicks in when in deep sand and wheels spinning 😊 when asc is turned off and you have momentum, then chances are less likely that excessive wheel spin will occur where tc then kicks in. Hope this helps 😊💯

    • @jeanloock4930
      @jeanloock4930 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@budget4x4life yep, it definitely makes a difference. As soon as there is diffential wheel speed TC starts slowing yiu down in sand. Most noticeable at speed or over cross axles in sand. There are definitely scenarios where is works in sand, but sometimes it should just be off. Best example is when you try a sandy climb with a sharp turn. As soon as you hit that turn too hard the TC kicks in and slows the car down.

    Hi there, great video. I have a same gen 4 pajero and pretty new to off-road, to drive on a sandy beach similar to your video, is it best to use 4H, 4HLC or 4LLc. Thx

    • @oldbloke204
      @oldbloke204 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      It will depend a lot on the sand you're driving on and the conditions.
      If it has rained recently the sand can be nice and hard but if not it can be like talcum powder.
      Also different beaches can have entirely different types of sand.
      Always err on the side of caution, imo, as it's a bit late to change modes when the sand is at the bottom of your door.
      Also make sure you have some recovery gear and know how to use it.
      Tyre pressures are also critical and can make the difference between making it easily and having to dig the bloody thing out.
      Plenty of videos on TH-cam and he explained it pretty well on here as well imo.

    • @budget4x4life
      @budget4x4life  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I will make a video about which mode to use soon 💯
      Essentially 2H on road 4H hard sand 4HLC medium soft and 4LLC for the really soft stuff. Try to keep up the momentum. You will see what mode the car likes between High and low range. It's momentum and power over torque on sand 🙂

  • @anonim1133
    @anonim1133 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    I must investigate it further, but i think that in my vehicle when ASC is off the engine power is not cut at all - only wheel braking is being applied, even in RWD only.
    When engaging diff lock - it disables all electronics, you can loose all hell then and go on full throttle just like in the 'classic' 4WD.

    • @budget4x4life

    Hey mate question - i can engage RDL even in 4HLc, which i often do in dunes and what not. Is there some sort of speed cap we shouldnt exceed with the rear diff locked im 4HLc?

    • @budget4x4life
      @budget4x4life  หลายเดือนก่อน

      Hey mate I wouldn’t recommend using the diff lock when doing over 20km/h or when not driving in a straight line. The diff can bind up on high speeds turning and therefore damage it. I have only ever driven in 4H and 4HLC will be plenty enough with the right tyre pressures 😃

    Hey mate, nice footage but I'm going to question some of it:
    As you know, I own a shorty like yours but with the rear diff lock.
    We have plenty of soft talcum powder here in NZ that I've tested it on. I ran some tests extensively all on the same white sand dune.
    #1: 2H - bogged basically at a standstill.
    #2: 4H - bogged at the base of the dune.
    #3: 4HLC - as above.
    #4: 4HLC with ASC OFF - top of the hill in 1st high range.
    #5: 4LLC - this switches ASC off automatically and I made it to the top of the dune as above. (2nd low range)
    #6: 4LLC with rear diff locked - now this should by all accounts switch off the Traction Control. I made it to the top of the dune just fine.
    My conclusion after more extensive testing: traction control being on or off really makes no difference in the sand at all. ASC, however, absolutely must be off otherwise you become bogged quickly due to engine cutting power almost immediately.
    I would love to have the TC mod where I can keep my rear diff lock engaged and the front TC working!! I reckon that would turn the shortie into a little beast alright.
    Anyway, that's just my 2c worth.
    TLDR: Traction control being on or off makes no difference for me on soft sand. ASC needs to be off though!

    • @budget4x4life
      @budget4x4life  ปีที่แล้ว

      Hey Alwyn! If you keep the momentum going there should be no reason for the tc to kick in when asc is turned off. It is when you're in deep sand and there's a lot of wheel spin, when the TC will kick in. Our swb cars are nice and light. When the car is fully loaded and deep sand I can guarantee your tc will kick in...like I presented in the video. If you have a good run up with momentum, then the chances are slim for the tc to kick in. So overall depends what you do. I will be keen to hear how those go in the snow with hilly terrain and if the TC interfere 🙂
      Thanks for the support 💯

    In regard to EGT in your car with the scan-gauge, did you have to get a thermo-coupling fitted to your exhaust to read the temps there or does the Pajero already have a sensor for EGTs that the scan-gauge reads?
