Thank you so much for the best E47/57 video on youtube. The engine mounting plate is a brilliant idea. You have put so much detail into it I now feel confident to do the chain on my E46 1.6 mini diesel. Unfortunately the chain on my car has snapped,so a much bigger job. The engine you were working on seem to have been very well maintained as every part was very clean, for a Diesel. Thanks again.
Thanks for your reply! I watched it again and could se that aligns with the notch in the case at 1 and 4 revolution of the engine. But I still don’t understand why it’s turned about 180 degrees from its original position when chains were disassembled. Why not just keep it like in was?
@@marcusevensson3687 Because you need to be 100% sure that the HPFP will be timed correctly. If you are sure that it haven't move ok don't rotate it, but I don't see the point of risking it
@@marcusevensson3687When he turns the engine twice at the end of the video, you will see that the mark on the high pressure pump is in the same position as when he turned it 180 degrees. he worked well

Is there an average time/distance when the timing chain replacement should be done? I noticed a bit of click/clack noise on one of the valve lifters that lasts until the engine is fully warmed up.
For the people that are wondering is the timing right, please watch Part 5 of this series, to see that everything is fine (flywheel timing compared with this method). And yes on N47 this will not work! You will need to time the crankshaft with the flywheel, not like in this video.

And yes i ordered the right parts darkside helped me to get the right parts for my engine
@@MrTJOMI Sooo lets think little bit sharper. So if this blocked coolant taps made your car smoke white, it means that you should have overheated it aka cylinder head gasket failure aka coolant in the cylinders. If you re-install the EGR coolant, you should still have this issue right? From else where the white smoke will come, related to EGR? If you block this coolant paths, no coolant will enter the intake system.
This video is not the correct way to time the engine . The crankshaft holding tool is not set at TDC and is NOT at the correct position to do up the camshaft bolts it is only for timing the fuel pump. Like the other comment says the flywheel needs to go back on and locked with the TDC pin before tightening the camshaft bolts .
I guess then the cars which we are doing are running magically. This especially has more than 60k km after this repair, without any issues. But if you watch more in details (I decided to film this part, especially for people that are not so experienced), you will see that I'm comparing the timing with the flywheel and the "tool for the HPFP", and the timing is 100% the same.
I’m surprised you haven’t got an engine check light on with cam/ crank correlation codes . The crank holding tool is not set the same position as the flywheel locking pin . I just did one last week so I know . If you wish to leave your email I can send you the BMW repair procedure it even states to rotate the crank slightly anticlockwise after removing the holding tool .
