Thank you Francis for the best year musically (I guess I'm biased born in this year) 👍 What I like about this time is everything had its place. You had new wave, pop, disco, rock and ballads etc Even the lower rankers are pretty great. I don't think anyone would let Sarah Brightman into the chart sadly today. Freddie's best solo song there!! I could say something about 'Let Her Feel It' (12 inch) lol 🤣 Very early Janet and an unusual duet she had with Cliffie. Sweet little ballad as well. How the hell was 'Flesh For Fantasy' that low? I had no idea 'Touch Me All Night Long' was a cover! Ah yes...Latoya. she can't sing. This is hard to choose favourites. Its such a strong lineup with hardly any bad songs. My top favourite is 'Love Kills' by Freddie Mercury. Chilling bit of new wave with a top chorus. One of a kind musician and the best male voice of all time. Should have been higher than 10th. I also like the songs by Billy Ocean (great song), Billy Idol (excellent slice of rock and man he was sexy back then), Culture Club's catchy anti-war song, a U2 classic (probably one of their best songs), Sade with her sexy soul song, Tina Turner with her sassy rock track (RIP), my local Brummie boys UB40 (a classic and nobody can replace Ali Campbell), Prince's timeless 'Purple Rain', ZZ Top's classic, a underrated Meat Loaf gem, Paul McCartney's best solo song and underrated gems from Laura Branigan, Barbara Streisand and Frida...and many more.
I've been following your channel, but this time - instead of music - I'm gonna mention just the iconic beauties of 1984: 1:44 ( a class by itself in any terms), 5:03 ( Paulina Porzikova of the former Czechoslovakia) and of course the whole trio from 5:55, what would I have not given for a ride in their car......
@@duncancurtis5971LaToya's stuff...is well questionable. She had an awful song called 'Sex Box', which she sounds like a wasp! The only decent song she did was a song with an Iranian singer called 'Tehran' where she sings in Farsi. She sounds better there than singing in English!
It's criminal that Sade's 'Smooth Operator' only made it to no 19?!! wtf! ....and also Tina Turner's 'Betta be good to me' missing out on the Top 40 altogether!! .... again, wtf?!! But Janet Jackson & Cliff Richard doing a duet?? lol really??? omg. That's the first time I've heard of this. Janet has obviously done a great job of keeping that quiet!! .. don't blame her. Could have been a 'career killer' before hers even began! Thsts thr nodt bizarre duet pairing I have heard of! Ok, there are more bizarre pairings, but I can't think of any right now!
I think the EARLY 80’s and the LATE 80’s looked more interesting on the UK chart than on the Billboard while in the MID 80’s US chart had much more to offer.

Great job Francis. Never knew Cathy Dennis " Touch me all night long ", was a cover version of some one else's work.
The Cathy Dennis version was much better! 😊

I had no idea that Cathy Dennis covered that song at 7:39 of the video 😮
A classic from Billy Ocean. His best song in the 80’s
I was a young adult in 1984 and remember the music well. ❤
Hanoi Rocks looked like a rocked-up version of Japan...
There were some great songs 🎵 in this moth 🎉excellent Sir 🎉
there is still disco style on the hit list, but the new wave style and the new Italian disco are still conquering!
together in electric dreams by human league from electric dreams 1984?
moroder + p.oakey
I had no idea that Cliff duetted with Janet Jackson 😮
Or that LaToya made a record.

It's a nice little ballad, but it's hard to believe she did a song with him, considering she moved into a better musical direction.
The chris de burgh song was actually called 'ecstasy of flight (I love the night)'
Gilberto Gil, the brazilian singer
Is it just me or did none of the songs that debuted in this period make it to #1?
Well that was a shite month in an otherwise brilliant year for music.
Bravoooooo💖💞💖💖💖💚💚💚💚💚💚💙💙💙💙💙💙
Number 86 for the Warrior (Scandal ). Should have been a top 10 hit
