"Grandma Got Run Over by a Reindeer" is a novelty Christmas song. Written by Randy Brooks, the song was originally performed by the husband-and-wife duo of Elmo Shropshire and Patsy Trigg in 1979 Eggnog has been spiked since it was first called Eggnog (Nog is either a term for a strong beer or a small wooden cup used to serve alcohol)... see, what you are used to is non-alcoholic Eggnog, which has become more commonplace so children can consume it AND so people can choose how little or how much alcohol to include, as recipes may vary, and your buddy may make his 151 proof, while you may only want it to be 80 proof.
We would get Egg Nog straight from the dairy store in PA each year so one year after visiting up north, I brought Egg Nog back so that my substance abuse groups could have some at their holiday party we were having. My supervisor took me aside and explained how it could be a trigger. I asked how? Never had a clue that Egg Nog had alcohol in it. And I learned my lesson there.
I guess this is one of those Moments in life that Reminds all of Us that Different Cultures and Regions in this World, aren't the same. I'm glad that he got to hear this song for the first time and enjoyed it for what it is. I've Known this song since I was very young 4-5 yrs old so I know it's over 40 yrs old, I was kind of Shocked at first that he'd never heard it before. Then I thought about all the places I've been and was introduced to New Things I had never known about or heard of until introduced to me. Happy Holidays everyone and Safe Travels ❤️😊.
This one's been around for ages ... people just like humorous Christmas songs. For others to try, the 12 days After Christmas, the 12 Pains of Christmas, or, from your boy Weird Al, Christmas at Ground Zero.
Egg Nog used to be alcoholic. We still add rum to it in my house during the season. It's excellent that way. Please listen to Weird Al's "The Night Santa Went Crazy." Also, they made this song into a cartoon Christmas special and it's hilarious.
That’s the thing he starts analyzing a song two lines in with absolutely no knowledge of the song no in culination of where it is going and it’s just of time wasting… I don’t enjoy his reactions at all because of this is he trying to be a professor or something? It is not working for him
It’s hard to believe you haven’t heard this song before😄. Home Free has funny Christmas songs and serious Christmas songs. You should really listen to Do You Hear What I Hear, Mary Did You Know, and Children Go Where I Send Thee with Kenny Rogers. Those are all beautiful!
Kathy, he lives in Spain so that might explain why he hasn’t heard this song. Also it’s a country song so if you’re not into country you could’ve missed it. I love his reactions to Chris Stapleton. Chris is a different kind of country😊
@@Mckatt2 YES!!!! I’m glad someone finally said it!!! He seems as if he was brought up in a strict home with absolutely no contact with ordinary people.
@@Mckatt2 You never can tell, I met a 2nd grader who had never heard Bing Crosby's White Christmas, but DID know all the words to the "I want a Hippopotamus for Christmas." But I do think it's because he lives in Spain.
Full of cheer and Cold hard cash are also fun. Their version of O Holy Night , Mary Did you know, and Do you hear what I hear? are technically amazing.
Eggnog as a holiday cheer delivery system is a long-standing tradition. The usual variants are Brandy eggnog, rum eggnog, and whiskey eggnog. (I haven't heard of anyone doing beer eggnog, and I'm fairly sure the flavors would clash.) Personally, I grew up with virgin eggnog, but I'm told most people like it chemically enhanced. (There was a milk flavoring product back when called PDQ. It came in Chocolate, Vanilla, Strawberry, and Eggnog flavors. Long gone now, of course.)
Some of their other Christmas songs are: the teaser you saw was “FULL OF CHEER” very funny original song and other COLD HARD CASH another funny orig. SNOWGLOBE very nice orig. GO TELL IT ON THE MOUNTAIN w/Texas Hill very nice.. stunning version of DO YOU HEAR WHAT I HEAR. superb version of MARY DID YOU KNOW that was dropped in the couple weeks. They have song with Kenny Rogers CHILDREN GO WHERE I SEND THEE. Some other non Christmas songs that would be good is the VERY MOVING.- BROTHER IN ARMS a Dire Straights cover and John Denver’s. TAKE ME HOME COUNTRY ROADS” These are just a few of their song. You and your family have a Merry Christmas and God’s blessings for the coming year
In my childhood there was always eggnog for the adults separate from the eggnog for the kids. My parents didn't drink but it was a party and some guests (and my grown siblings) might partake. "Do You Hear What I Hear?" is my favorite of their Christmas music. Stunning arrangement.
I will never forget the first time I heard this song. I was about 14 and my grandmother (My fathers mother) wasn´t doing so well, so me and my mother was driving out to visit her. It was a sorta tense ride, as my mother was trying as best she could to prepere me for the visit, as this was the first time I was dealing with the possiblity that a family member quite likely wasn´t going to be around for much longer. So overall, the mood in the car was pretty grim. Then my mother turned on the radio, and this song was playing. We started laughing so much that my mother had to pull over until we got it out of our system. Now, whenver we hear this song we remember my Grandmother.
The whole video is full of their antics. Tim using wrapping paper as a blanket kills me every time. Then his total stupid grin when the homeowner removes all the decorations behind him.
I love Tim's goofy grin in this and his antics in Full of Cheer ! Gotta admit tho their "Cooking" antics in What Christmas means to me are pretty good as well!
You should react to Home Free's version of Mary Did You Know? The harmonies, bass drops, and vocal percussion are fantastic! I think this is the very best version I've heard to date!
Adding bourbon or (as I prefer) rum to eggnog is quite common. And some alcohol companies (such as Souther Comfort) actually sell their own branded cartons of alcohol free eggnog to go with their beverages.
I have never seen (or heard) of any home free videos getting blocked, so maybe consider not blurring their videos. I would highly highly recommend their song “brothers in arms”, and you will hear amazing harmonies and Tim’s exceptional deep bass!
I grew up with The Irish Rovers version and it was also my favourite. HF is a very close second. They are so entertaining, along with incredible vocal skills. Speaking of amazing vocals, Geoff Castellucci God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen is incredible!
Our elderly neighbor brought us some of her homemade eggnog the other day. She said it has 3 kinds of liquor in it. I'm scared to try it!! The song has been a Christmas staple for over 40 years!
I've known of this song for ages. However, this is the first time I've payed attention to every verse. Eggnog is way to rich in creamy goodness to me personally. Only twice in over half a century, that's all I have consumed. Never once with alcohol in the mix. I may want to experience that once before I expire. I do watch you channel to support you, and to take in your reactions. Think one was a great gift from you. This the giving season. I would love to give you more than one thumbs up.👍👍👍👍👍 Peace 🕊
There are ones that come pre-mixed with booze, but honestly, you're better off getting your favorite Egg Nogg (thicker the better) & mixing in either Spiced rum (like Capt Morgan) or some brandy. About 1 shot per glass (8oz) for normal off the shelf Egg Noggs. I used to get this stuff in Florida that was thicker than latex paint (& about 1600 calories per 8oz) that you could add a double shot if you wanted.
The teaser was written by the bass Tim Foust as a joke but became the sequel to "Champagne Taste On A Beer Budget" (also written by Tim). The name of the teaser is "Full Of Cheer". For funny Christmas songs, Check out a song written by Austin Brown "Cold Hard Cash". Have fun. They are always great fun to watch and listen to.
Listen. Listen! I was going on 2 hrs sleep Xmas morning. One of my sisters gave me a small taste of her spiked cider. Another sister poured me a double of her especially strong, but delicious, eggnog. 2 mins later my mother in law comes around handing out fireball Jell-O shots. I was lit about 10 mins later. These Christmas drinks are deceiving. Someone tricked Grandma.
A couple of Christmas songs you could check out for HF: Snowglobe (my personal favorite), Mary Did You Know (honestly, so beautiful), and Do You Hear What I Hear (so well arranged by the beatboxer of the group!) Love your reactions!
"O Holy Night" "Full of Cheer" "Mary Did You Know", and it is not a Christmas song, but "How Great Thou Art" is an absolute MASTERPIECE, and I'm not even religious, it is just that good.
I can't believe you've never heard this song, LOL. It's an iconic novelty Christmas song that was EVERYWHERE when it first came out. Anyway, I love the playfulness of this video. I'm a little surprised you didn't comment on that super long sustained note Austin belts at the end ("believe"). I've heard him do it live, & the stamina & breath control he has to keep projecting that note for so long is incredible.
The first man to open his door and have his home invaded is their producer Darren Rust. The next man to open a door (wearing a blue shirt and with a beard) is a friend of Tim Foust (the bass).
This was one of my grandpa's favorite christmas songs. Grandma of course hated it. This version was, of course, a cover, but wonderfully done. Egg Nogg is one of those things you either love or hate. Older, traditional recipes use egg which freaks some out. Modern recipes use a different emulsifier. For some it's the health part. Standard Noggs can be a few hundred calories per glass. Thicker Egg Noggs are better for mixing (spiced rum or brandy are best) but also amp up the calories. Used to get this stuff from Farm Stores in Florida that was thicker than latex paint. Was about 1600 calories for a glass, but could handle a double shot of booze. Also, while there are pre-mixed alcoholic Egg Noggs, you are better off getting your own favorites & mixing to taste. Generally, a shot per 8oz is a good starting point.
No eggnog is sold with alcohol, as it is perishable. But about rum is generally added 1 shot to a 3 oz cup at home. Statler Brothers - Flowers On The Wall and Oak Ridge Boys - Elvira have great deep bass singers.
The teaser is another funny Christmas song. It's a sequel to "Champagne Taste On A Beer Budget" it is "Full Of Cheer" also check "Cold Hard Cash" written by Austin Brown the high soprano in the group. Tim Foust wrote Champagne Taste And Full Of Cheer. Enjoy

🤣🤣🤣 You should check their last video "What Christmas means to me". The teaser is "Full of Cheer" an original song of theirs. Tim also wrote Snow Globe and Austin wrote "Cold Hard Cash (for Christmas). Then they have the usual "Mary did you know, Oh Holy night, Do you hear what I hear (arranged by Addam the beatbxer), White Christmas, etc. All amazing
This maybe an old one but they make it so much better. Yes there is spiked eggnog. Yes some people have a Goose instead of Ham or Turkey. New song Christmas Ante for the Lonely, sad song. another silly one. What Christmas Means To Me. Children Go Where I Send Thee. with Kenny Rogers. Mary Did You Know. In Christmas Song. Full of Cheer Cold Hard Cash
First time I heard this was by The Irish Rovers. Other Christmas Songs you may like are Scarlett Ribbons by Harry Belafonte, for a socially relevant song Circle of Steel by Gordon Lightfoot and for a little more bent Merry Bloody Xmas by the Irish Rovers. Although not strictly a Christmas Song for sheer beauty Snow by Loreena McKennitt and finally for technical brilliance God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen by Jethro Tull
The beatboxer is amazing too! They have loads of Christmas songs, if you want another fun one to watch, check out their Original song "Cold Hard Cash" (for Christmas) or an older original that is hilarious is their song "Full Of Cheer"
Full of Cheer and Snow Globe are original Home Free Christmas songs. I actually think Snow Globe is one that would work all year long though. Also, my Dad always put whiskey in his eggnog then sprinkled nutmeg on top.
Watching him try to make sense out of a senseless song was hilarious 😂 the looks on his face were priceless!
His reactions are as funny as this song and video! I love ALL OF THIS SO MUCH!

i make eggnog... i don't use alcohol when i make the big batch of it, but i add just a bit of spiced rum to it in my glass
Originally eggnog was called Milk Punch. It comes from the UK. So yes it had alcohol in it originally .

Eggnog is a Christmas drink and often mixed with a bit of Rum, so grandma was sneaking an extra bit in to her drink
For more Christmas comedy try Full Of Cheer and What Christmas Means to Me. O Holy Night is perfection. Mary Did You Know, Do You Know What I Know and Angels We Have Heard On High are musts for Christmas.
All amazing
Yes, there is alcohol in eggnog! It's a classic!
In
Christmas Song.
Full of Cheer
Cold Hard Cash
I can't remember ever not hearing this song and I'm 48
Another funny Christmas song you need to hear is “Who Put the Stump” lol
Bailys Irish Cream is very good with eggnog, it is also good with brandy in it
hahahaha YYESSS!!!
You should check out Home Free's cover of End of the Road by Boyz to Men. It's amazing.
I would specifically like to see this specific kind of content.
