I stop the video multiple times for two reasons.
#1 I want to fully comprehend something before I pass judgement.
#2 the song is copyrighted, if I don’t stop it 5 -15 the video will be blocked and you all would never see it.
I am fully aware this for some is looked at as some form of desecration of something you love, but please if you want to just hear the song I would prefer for you to support the artist by going to their account and giving them the view.
Sorry again, that I have offended so many people.

It's not desecration but I do hope you listen to it properly sometime as a whole rather than in bitesize pieces. It's a bit like trying to understand an elephant while blindfolded and grabbing different separate bits..What's it about? no one knows for absolute certain, Freddie never explained. Its usually thought to be about Freddies own identity.

Queen is a legendary rock band of four people that existed in 1971-1991. The lead singer died in 1991. (They started touring again in the 2000s, with guest singers).
The lead singer and pianist is Freddie Mercury (who wrote this song), and considered by many the best rock singer in history and the best frontman.
Brian May is the lead guitarist and also a legend.
Roger Taylor - drums, John Deacon - bass.
All of them wrote songs and they are the only band that has all four members in Songwriters Hall of Fame, because each of them wrote at least one №1 hit.
They also are in Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and have a star on Hollywood Walk of Fame.
Bohemian Rhapsody is considered one of the best songs in history and often won polls, and recently became the most streamed song of 20th century. It was released in 1975 and topped the charts for 9 weeks in a row. It was in Hot 100 three times - 1975, 1992 and 2018.
The music video is considered the first commercial music video in history and it's the oldest music video on youtube to hit 1 billion views.
Queen were the first band who started filming music videos for all of their singles.
The genre of this song is in the name - "rhapsody in music is a one-movement work that is episodic yet integrated, free-flowing in structure, featuring a range of highly contrasted moods, colour, and tonality" (from wiki).
The middle section is mock opera - Freddie loved classical music, ballet and opera, and even recorded an album with an opera singer when he was 40.
Don't take the lyrics literally, it's not actually about murder. Some say it's about Freddie coming out (he was gay), but no one knows for certain. Freddie never explained the meaning of his songs.
In the beginning of the song when you see four of them singing, it's actually only Freddie's voice, multitracked.
The most famous sport anthems (that you most likely know) were written by Queen - "We Are The Champions" (written by Freddie) and "We Will Rock You" (written by Brian).
You should watch "Don't Stop Me Now" - official video, it would be a good start.
Queen wrote very different songs in different genres, so you can expect something unusual every time you listen to them.

Imho I think he's the best male vocalist ever. Freddie had no formal voice training, well apart from the little time he spent in his school choir, so is a freak of nature. I watched a documentary called Freddie Mercury saved my life, by a professional classical singer, who is mystified at how Freddie became such a elite vocalist without any training. He covers the song Barcelona in his documentary, and admits even with all his years of training, and perfecting his voice, he can only just manage to sing it, but can't get to the levels Freddie Mercury performed it. Anyone interested in watching the documentary it's on TH-cam, so just type in the name.

About the line "I sometimes wish I'd never been born at all " - i wouldn't call it a tantrum. It feels serious and sincere, considering Freddie's history.
He didn't have a happy childhood. He was born in Zanzibar, he was Indian Parsi but his family lived in Zanzibar because of his father's work. When he was 8 Freddie was sent to India to live at boarding school. It scarred him for life. He missed his family and felt abandoned and unloved. He couldn't even come home for holidays because it was so far. When he was 18 there was revolution in Zanzibar and Freddie's family had to flee the country knowing they would have been killed if they stayed. They moved to London, and Freddie being a shy immigrant boy, had to adapt to completely different culture. And he also had to deal with the fact that he was gay (the fact he tried to hide even from himself) and his parents being Zoroastrians obviously could never accept it.

"Sometimes we should never be born at all" wasn't childish in this context. In 1975, coming out publically as gay was career-killer, and instant ostracized in society. It simply was not accepted by the "masses." What Freddie did with Bohemian Rhapsody was a HUGE risk to him personally & the band. I hope you dig deeper because Freddie was one-of-a-kind. He sings an opera duet in the 80s that was so beautiful.

Freddie never "came out" while the group was still performing. It was more of a death bed thing...just a few days before he died from AIDS and he knew everyone was going to know anyway. Bohemian Rhapsody was released years before and was not a gay rights, or gay angst, anthem. The "risk" of BoRap was it's length...not it's message.

The murder is the start, the arrest and trial is the second part where he is asking them to spare him and they say no basically, there is panic and he states that Beelzebub had a devil set aside for him which implies the verdict coming probably isn't good and then the final part some sentence is passed down and the story concludes with nothing really matters anymore. Queen is a Legendary band from Britain, created 1970. They were named Queen by Freddie Mercury (lead vocals, piano, occasional guitar) because he felt it was a strong name and sounded regal. All 4 members are College graduates. Brian May (lead guitar, vocals; tall, naturally curly hair) is an Astrophysicist and has collaborated with NASA occasionally. He and his Dad (Engineer) built his guitar together when Brian was a teen because they couldn’t afford one. Brian named it the “Red Special” and part of it is wood from an old fireplace! John Deacon, bass player, graduated with Honors as an Electronic Engineer. He built a special amp that Brian used. Roger Taylor, (drums, vocals) degree in Biology, partway thru Dental College (committed to the band Queen instead!). All 4 have written #1 songs! Bohemian Rhapsody was written by Freddie and released in 1975. When you listen again, note their musical skill in transitioning tempo/genre during the song. Also the attention to detail that resulted in the music going from one ear to the next - NOT easy to do in the 1970’s! You most likely know WE ARE THE CHAMPIONS and WE WILL ROCK YOU (recommend original videos). Queen doesn’t stick to one genre of music. Please listen to WHITE QUEEN (live at the Rainbow ‘74) and STONE COLD CRAZY (live at the Rainbow, thrash metal before it was invented!). ANOTHER ONE BITES THE DUST was another Huge hit worldwide and Michael Jackson was the ine that told them to release it as a single! Enjoy your Queen journey! I’ll definitely subscribe if I see you doing Queen reactions!! 😊

When you say you don't know how you went 34 years without hearing this song, it made me smile--I was in 3rd grade in the 80's and my very cool, hip father, played his records from the 60's and 70's for me and Queen blew my mind so much I told all my school friends about it, then they listened to Queen and their minds were blown. No one turned you on to Queen when you were little! That's how it happened. BTW, the structure is VERY classical--Classical pieces go through like 5 or 6 movements too--Freddie Mercury was a classically trained musician who wanted to merge rock with opera and came up with Bohemian Rhapsody. It's really brilliant, isn't it?

some say Freddie Mercury was a genius. He purposely took several different music genres and blended it together. There was acapella at the beginning. The section you found trippy was opera. Rock, and what I consider soft rock. I read somewhere that part of it was ballad. Yes, it can be chaotic, but it works. I remember reading that when he first brought this to his band, he got a lot of pushback because of the different styles and how long the song was. His manager didn't think it'd sell. Boy, was he proved wrong. This has become an iconic Queen song that still plays on the radio over 30 years later. Thank you for covering this song and I hope you do take the time to listen to it all the way through. Your reactions had me laughing so hard I was afraid I'd pee myself. I consider this Freddie's coming out song. The man he kills is heterosexual Freddie and gay Freddie comes into being. The theatrical middle section deals with his religion and conservative family who would never accept the new Freddie. Mama is probably long time girlfriend/fiance, Mary Austin, whom he genuinely loved above all others throughout his life and they did remain best friends and soulmates all of Freddie's life. Mary accepted and loved him for exactly the man he was. Very complicated, but listen again knowing these basic facts and see what you think. Thank you for recognizing this outstanding and underrated band. Their music remains main stream and part of our daily life 50 years later. They have stood the test of time!

"WE are the Champions," "We will Rock You," Crazy Little Thing Called Love."...and many others. As far as their music genre, it is said music critics hated Queen because they didn't fit into any one genre. They did rock soul, ballads,... It is also worth noting that their live performances are as good as (or even better than) their studio recordings. In fact, they have been named as the best live band of all time.

LMFAO!!! Bro, in rock music, to take all of the lyrics literal is to miss the point. He didn't literally kill someone. Nobody stoned him and spit in his eye. There IS a story behind it, but most rock music tells stories through metaphor instead of just spelling it out like say, country, rap, or even most pop. To understand the lyrics to rock and metal bands, you have to think beyond just the words the vocalist is saying. It's rare that they just say things outright. Most try to tell a story in a poetic sort of way.

A rhapsody in music is a one-movement work that is episodic yet integrated, free-flowing in structure, featuring a range of highly contrasted moods, colour, and tonality. An air of spontaneous inspiration and a sense of improvisation make it freer in form than a set of variations.

  • @livvyweimar7362
    @livvyweimar7362 2 ปีที่แล้ว +5

Okay let me help. I'm sure others have added some of this, but let's start at the beginning. Freddie Mercury is a first generation immigrant to England from the middle east. His family is Zorastrian by religion. He was attending college and loved the local band scene. He also loved to gender bend his clothes and himself. He was born with some extra molars that gave him an octive range that few can match...he has 4 and most have 1-1.5. He agreed to be their lead singer and they blew up. His vocal range is extraordinary. He was bisexual although he never stopped loving his wife even after they divorced. He did eventually pass away from AIDS during the 80s. This song, like so many of their hits, was just because they could. Beyond that it was meant to tell a story about a person who had made terrible choices and who had to face them (likely Freddie finding out he was sick and not getting better but not knowing why or from what). Bismillah! The shout in the rhapsody part is actually middle eastern for "In the name of God" so while they're shouting "Bismillah, we will not let you go" it's a complete rejection of someone taking another person's life.
Oh, and they fired their record label over this song because they said any song over 3:30 in length was too long for air. This song more than doubles that and is still universally loved.
BTW, anything by Queen is welcome and I will watch for sure!

Queen was a rock created in 1971 consisting of:
Freddie Mercury - lead vocalist and piano
Roger Taylor - drummer and vocalist
    John Deacon - bass guitarist
Brian May - lead guitarist and vocalist
Queen is a unique group because all four members were extremely talented musicians who not only performed but each member wrote the music they performed. Queen recorded 14 studio albums, had multiple gold and platinum hits (i.e. "Another One Bites the Dust", "We Will Rock You", "We Are The Champions", etc.), and performed worldwide concerts with as many as 250,000 people at one performance. The group remained together for 20 years until the death of Freddie Mercury from AIDS in 1991. After Freddie's death, John retired from performing but Roger and Brian still perform as Queen with Adam Lambert now singing lead.
Queen is one of the most diverse musical groups that ever existed. All four members of the group were equal, there was no leader. The members were all intelligent and independent with varied tastes in music. Freddie had a degree in Graphic Design (he designed the Queen logo), John has a degree in Electronic Engineering, Roger has a degree in Biology, and Brian is actually Dr. Brian May with a Ph.D. in Astrophysics.
Queen's catalog consists of Rock and Roll, Glam Rock, Hard Rock, R & B, Jazz, Soft Rock, Rockabilly, Soul, Opera, Thrash Metal, Ballads, Folk, Pop, Blues-Rock, Progressive Rock, etc. The versatility of this group is unheard of. The group constantly stretched their talent into new areas of performance.
Not only could Freddie sing anything but he is considered one (if not the best) frontman ever. Watching a live performance of Queen is an entertainment experience unlike any other. Queen is unique in that their live performances of their music are even better than their studio recordings. The 20-minute performance at the Live Aid Concert in 1985 is considered by most as the best live performance of any musical act ever. (Live Aid was a duel venue concert held at Wembley Stadium, London and JFK Stadium in Philadelphia broadcast worldwide which consisted of 20-minute performances by over 65 musical acts to raise money for Ethiopian famine relief).
In the case of the song Bohemian Rhapsody, it was entirely written and arranged by Freddie Mercury in 1975. Freddie tended to write in metaphors. He never explained the meaning of the song but he did admit that it is actually a compilation of 3 different songs that he had been writing but couldn't quite finish so he simply mashed them all together adding bridges and transition. Many of us believe that the ballad part of the song is referring to Freddie attempting to come out as gay/bisexual. The man he killed was his old self and he was sorry that he couldn't be the man his mother wanted him to be. Whereas the operatic portion of the song is referring to the group Queen itself. Scaramouche is Freddie''s image of himself ( a stock clown character of the 16th-century commedia dell'arte), Galileo refers to lead guitarist Dr. Brian May, Astrophysics, Figaro refers to the drummer, Roger Taylor's whose singing voice is uniquely high pitched (Freddie called it a Dog Whistle voice), and Magnifico refers to John Deacon (electrical genius).
BTW - The name Queen was the work of Freddie Mercury alone, the others went along with it because they knew how particular and persistent Freddie was with his opinions and perfectionist behavior. Freddie claimed the name was just random and had no real meaning. He was aware that the name had the dual meaning of royalty and homosexuality. I suspect he just liked the mixed message it projected and felt it would stand out from all other groups.

Let's start with the definition of Rhapsody -- "an epic poem, or part of it, of a suitable length for recitation at one time". "A rhapsody in music is a one-movement work that is episodic yet integrated, free-flowing in structure, featuring a range of highly contrasted moods, colour, and tonality. An air of spontaneous inspiration and a sense of improvisation make it freer in form than a set of variations." This song is an epic poem or rock opera. It's a story. The first part is the man has killed someone. The second part is his trial. It is very reminiscent of a British Royal court proceding or Inquisition (reference in lyrics to Galileo who faced the Inquisition). He/his lawyer is pleading for mercy. The judges are saying, "No, he's the devil's son". Third part, he's in prison and his girlfriend/wife/lover is moving on with her life without him and he's angry. Fourth and finale, he's resigned to his fate and nothing matters anymore.

@MrLboyd Reacts You should definitely listen to some of their later work just before Freddie died. Their last release was "The Show Must Go On." It was recorded not long before he passed away. I read an article about an interpretation of this song from Dr. Brian May (the guitarist) who composed a good deal of it. It was implied that a lot of it was the band's grieving process over Freddie's impending death. And Freddie's response to Brian was epic. "When May presented the final demo to Mercury, he had doubts that Mercury would be physically capable of singing the song's highly demanding vocal line, due to the extent of his illness at the time. To May's surprise, when the time came to record the vocals, Mercury consumed a measure of vodka and said "I'll fucking do it, darling!" then proceeded to perform the vocal line." Epic. And Bohemian Rhapsody.....not petty. Far from it.

I find the documentaries about the creation of - the video analysis of - and the reaction videos to - this song just as fascinating as the song itself. Forty-five years later, there is no shortage of information and interest in Bohemian Rhapsody. And definitely no shortage of opinions on its true meaning, which Freddie apparently kept to himself. If you listen to it several times uninterrupted you'll feel the connectivity of each section. Fun reaction!

I’m excited to see more stuff from you. I like your energy. Also, Queen is my favorite band. Would be great to see you dive in more. The name Queen comes from the lead singer’s desire to capture majesty. Freddie Mercury (lead vocals) is my personal hero, but Roger Taylor (drums/back-up vocals), Brian May (guitar/back-up vocals), and John Deacon (bass) are all genius to me.

I was just going into my senior year in high school when this hit the radios. It BLEW UP like a musical nuclear reactor. They immediately shot to worldwide fame. Freddy Mercury (lead singer) had a four-octave range (i know only a few other very gifted singers who have a wider range -- check out Geoff Castellucci here in YT, he sings with VoicePlay and has a 5+ octave range). At any rate, Bohemian Rhapsody has been my all-time favourite song since '75.

Being gay in the 70's & early 80.s when Freddie , "Came out", was even more socially difficult then now. The man he killed is understood to be his hidden self. Rhapsody is a musical term for putting different tunes into one song. I luv your curious mind!

Do you not know how bullies operate? They pick a difference you are a minority in and try and use it against you. If you think them being gay is the CAUSE of the bullying, this is where your mistake is. The cause of bullying is in the bullys upbringing, the bully will look for natural victims, and then use whatever hook to enact the bullying. If you look like a victim to a bully, it matters not one whit that you are gay, they'll find the thing and leverage it.

When he says sometimes, I wish I wasn't born at all, you have to understand his struggle. He was the front man of one of the best bands in the world. This had to be incredibly hard for him, especially being gay and not being able to really talk about it or to have a real life with someone that had to be so hard on him, it had to be the hardest struggle. He had before he got sick and died, you have to look at it from his point of view, can you imagine not being able to be your real self and not knowing who is your real friends? My heart actually goes out to Freddie Mercury and I feel really sad for him, I hate that he left us so early, at some point, he would have been fully accepted by most people, he had to feel so alone.

Growing up (born in 89) I listened to country, rock, and rap. My mom/dad were country and rock, and my sister was rap (Tupac and Twista) were what I really remember her introducing me to. I still remember my sisters Tupac cds (they were like grey with half of his face on them, and the Twista CD was blue with like a tornado on it) and having those types of influences growing up were amazing. It blows my mind that others around the world were never introduced to not only these songs but genres in general and there is so much music out there that is amazing and this is part of the reason I watch reaction videos to songs I've listed to for the last 20 years. It's just so intriguing to me to see how others react to music I've listened to for SUCH a long time and you sir by far are one of my favorite reactors because of how you approach new music which is through intellect and appreciation.
