    This dog is really stressed out and timid. Electric collar - no wonder. Low head, low tail, slow movements when she gets near you, she's obviously insecure because she's expecting a shock at any wrong move she does. Bad training. I've never seen a poodle with their tail tucked so much.

      I reported this idiot. First i was thinking, whats wrong with her. And then i really saw happy owner AND that electric collar.. Should use it for that couple instead.. Disgusting to treat dog who is more intelligent than most humans, and willing to learn and be happy to learn. I have had two poodles and i trained them with understanding dogs nature and characteristics.

    I was excited until I saw the shock collar. My 1 year old standard spent 6 weeks with a reputable trainer he used a shock collar and wanted me to buy one. I refused. It may take longer to train but no way will I use a shock collar. These dogs are too smart and will train well with time and effort and LOVE.

      53Patrick53....I agree. I have two Standards and they are super smart. Mine have learned things with only a few corrections. At obedience class they were walking, heeling, and sitting within 15 minutes....outshined all the other dogs. It was too easy or them.

      99 % do not use the shock on a collar. They use the tone or vibrate. Nothing wrong with that. Sometimes with dogs you have to break the cycle they get in. Especially if they are prey motivated. I have mine on my dog and have only used the tone to break a cycle a few times. They are very smart, but they are still dogs.

    One of the smartest dog breeds around with willingness to serve it's owner.. An E-collar is required? For a Poodle???? Basic training and house manners must have been a complete no show in that dog's home. Frustrating. Dog owners: Get your ass to a puppy training class. Do the work. It's not over cause the class is done! Keep house rules. Walk and play with your dog several times a day (Poodles are very active). Let him use that big brain of his! If you can't do that, don't get a dog. Get a stuffed animal. Now THAT is low maintenance!

    Usually it is not a problem of dog, but of the owners or family where he/she lives. So training the dog is the easier part of it. Train people to behave is harder part. If you won´t tell them, what do they wrong and how to change it, the problems will come back sooner or later (and they will probably not ask you again, for the same help).

    First, I'll say "hello"....from Lafayette, Louisiana. And also, your training techniques were good (minus the shock collar). I adopted a 1 and 1/2 year old standard. Took a while to train him. Only to realize he really only knew Spanish/language (he came from Mexico). My partner decided to get a shock collar, against my wishes. A neighbor called me saying "what is he doing w/the poodle? The poodle just jumped on his back"? I was furious. The shock collar was no longer allowed. Once he learned English, he was fine and the most loving companion I've ever had. A little time, patience, understanding....is all you need (from an early age). Force (especially with poodles) is not needed. Timid and frightened is not one of their traits. Save that for the lesser breeds (or for people).

    • @jasonsmith5077
      @jasonsmith5077 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      I have taught one of my standards both English and Spanish I feel it keeps her interested as they are so smart and love to learn new things. She is so amazing. I just today adopted a 5 month old male that will be trained in English ,Spanish ,hand signals ,as well as whistle training for casting on blind retrieves. I don’t think I will need the e-Coller. The absolute worst thing I can do to my female poodle, who is 5 , is to put her in the corner of the room. Oh she hates it. If she has behavioral issues,which normally come out when she is not happy about something, this is her punishment. Not happy for her is when her mother and I have to be at work for an extended amount of time or one of us is out of town. Even me leaving for work without telling her good bye and to be a good girl will upset her.

    Sad to watch. I didn’t see one moment of genuine happiness or contentment in this Standard P’s behavior once. Poodles aren’t meant for strict obedience. They’re deep thinking, playful, funny, loving and affectionate life companions. If you want a rigid, tight, serious dog get a different breed.

  • @NR-hy5ri
    @NR-hy5ri 3 ปีที่แล้ว +8

    Poodles are very sensitive to corrections, despite their drive/capacity for working, exercising their minds, and communicating clearly with their owners. For my poodle, I only use a verbal marker to avert, prevent, or mark the undesired behavior and focus on building up the positive reinforcement. A shock collar really wasn't necessary and you can tell she isn't following these commands for her own enrichment but rather in fear of or to avoid punishment. I get that they have their application on certain individual dogs, at purely a vibration level with no electric shock, but in this case, she clearly is distressed, and continuing to train her in this manner is only going to make things worse.

      @servicepoodle8536 4 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      Ghelly Kolokoutsa E-Collars are actually a very safe and incredibly useful tool when used properly. In the right hands, an E-collar does not hurt the dog in any way, shape, or form and is not "violent" at all. They are great tools to correct negative behaviors found in the dog. A lot of people will keep E-collars on their dog, even when they are certain and confident that the dog is great at whatever it is they are doing or wherever they are to give the handlers peace of mind.

Read any book about dog body language and you find out many other surprising things like how dogs sometimes freeze in fear (calm dogs who bite out of nowhere) etc.

      from the owner of a Male poodle, it wasn't because of his gender it's their intelligence and you have to realize they are high maintenance: Exercise, mental stimulation, chew toys, fetch, impulse control (it's a big one), positive reinforcement (poodles respond to it amazingly), clear guidelines (no, "oh you can come sleep on my bed sometimes but not all the time"), basic tricks and commands (sit, stay, heel, come, lie down, high five) and routine. These are all basic things your dog needs to be moderately well behaved and you'll need to do more if he has aggression or anxiety issues etc. Ik this was posted three years ago but it's never too late to train your dog,

The thing is, most people with kids would truly use it inappropriately, at least from what I have observed where I live, plus, a child would just be able to take it off, causing us to work harder lol. The thing about an e-collar is they don't just shock the dog. I have used an e-collar before. If the dog is preconditioned to it, there is a small warning vibrate that can be administered, which is usually what I would use. A dog can be trained simply on that small vibrate, especially one as intelligent as a poodle.
