As wonderful as Lea is, Frances Ruffelle is the definitive Eponine, winning the Tony and Olivier awards years before Lea came to the States... and Eponine was beloved because of her plaintiff existence, and because of this song that many women had sung well before Lea came along.

She is brilliant. A teacher of mine met her before her Miss Saigon days, and he was impressed with her. She was really professional. She came prepared and even memorized all of her lines.
Here, Lea sets the gold standard for On My Own. The harsh diction (along with the hands in pocket and then the closed folded arms) in the beginning was a character choice, eventually opening up, then ending the song with dreamy softness.
Lea Salonga is one of the greatest Broadway performers ever. She is one of my favorite fingers of all time. This was a Les Miserables 10th anniversary concert, I think in London, with all the original cast. It was stunning, and she was brilliant! Thank you for reacting. Please , please, please react to Home Free's How Great Thou Art! You will not be s disappointed!
Not the "original cast" but "DREAM CAST" which was part of the actual title, the best of the best performers of Les Mis both on Broadway and Foreign production
I'm surprised you're so familiar with this song but not Lea's rendition. 💐 In case no one else mentioned it, Lea got her audition for Miss Saigon by sending in a tape of her singing, you guessed it, this song! It's not much of an exaggeration to say this song made her career. There's a video of 18 year old Lea (she totally looked 14) auditioning and doing her first casting (or whatever it's called) and she even asks the composer (or lyricist, not sure what he did) for his signature on a Les Mis poster.
Thank you for your lovely comment and for watching my video until the end. I appreciate it. 😁💖💐 Hope you will join me for my Christmas Eve Livestream at 6pm EST?

Shame on this reactor as a opera singer which shes done so much stage concerts of not knowing one of the best singers of the world. Idk it's kinda odd. But thank u for reacting tho.
"One of the greatest strength of Lea Salonga is her clear diction. It's so clear that even auto-generated eng subs could capture every words she's saying/singing ☺️💕
I believe, this is the best rendition of this song. I’ve seen so many singers sang this, but not as emotionally presented and voice controlled as she has.
Lea Salonga will always be the definitive Eponine for me. This concert was amazing! I can’t get enough of it! I watch it so often that these amazing singers define their characters for me.
I love how she demonstrates fantasy, frustration, longing and never breaks the musicality of every word and phrase. She takes the audience on the emotional roller coaster of emotions that the character experiences.... and paints an image in the listeners head, of what is in Eponine's heart.

His duet with Lea Salonga "A Little Fall of Rain" is one of the three all but guaranteed tear rendering moments of the story. I love to hear your reaction to their performance.
she is the original ms saigon, besides blowing away every other role she has taken on in broadway musicals and disney movies etc. she has many great songs to react to. Agree with comment below, you should listen to her duet with Rachelle Ann Go for “The Movie in My Mind”
I would like to mention, that the reason for Lea’s classic approach to her diction is also because she’s classically trained. There was a time when she was still in Miss Saigon where her voice was starting to get tired, so in order to save her voice she was trained classical technique. She had great diction prior anyway, but the classical technique she was taught I think also solidified her foundation when singing

No worries Maggie. Every musician that I have watched react to this has had exactly the same reaction. Basically, your comments about how professionally, correctly, and purely this was sung is what is usually noticed by musical experts. I know you began with a bit of research, but yea, Lea Salonga is considered by many to be the gold standard that aspiring broadway performers hope to emulate. She's extraordinary. There's a fun cell phone video on TH-cam of her grabbing a guy from the audience and singing "A Whole New World" with, not realizing he had auditioned for the part years earlier and almost got it, so he more than holds his own with this world-class singer. If you haven’t ever seen the full Les Mis 10th Anniversary concert, I cannot recommend it enough. The cast members were all exclusively picked from various productions and performances in the 10 years the show had been running and is considered the standard in a lot of ways. The full thing is on TH-cam and well worth the time to watch.
You have to watch her sing for Fantine in the 25th anniversary concert. She's got 15 more years of experience and the difference between her singing as teenage Eponine vs broken woman Fantine is just so powerful.
She is one of the best musical actresses/singers in the world, a queen and her diction is one of the best too. TY, Maggie for the reaction. Listen Miss Saigon show and you would know more about her. There is a video call "Looking for Kim" or something like that, when they were casting for talent for the show.
Ms. Salonga's diction is tailor-made for theater - I've always heard that you must get to that fine line where you are almost over-enunciating, so that the audience can always follow you... Her pop stuff is not this way...
what made Lea into what she is today was her theatre experience when she was very young.... made her into a different teenager unlike so many local artists and singers way back then..... then Miss Saigon came and we all know what happened after that. Even the pop songs she sings is sung differently to even the original artist because of her theatre training and experience.
Wow~ I find it hard to believe that you have ever heard her name before. I think she's about the absolute best for this role. Such stellar talent in both singing and acting on stage! This is part of the Les Miz 10th anniversary. You might want to look it up and watch the whole live. You're gonna love it! Anyways, always great to see your reaction! You're the best! :)

When I did a bunch of musical theatre at High School, our director and MD as well, stressed the importance of our diction given that the songs tell the story. Without good diction, no one would know what we're singing about.

Here, Lea sets the gold standard for On My Own. The harsh diction (along with the hands in pocket and then the closed folded arms) in the beginning was a character choice, eventually opening up, then ending the song with dreamy softness.
Thank you for your comment. Did you like my latest reaction to Morissette I just posted?
Thanks for reacting on this!
Lea Salonga is perfection.
This is such a good review. Thank you so much!! 😊
Thank you for your lovely comment. Hope you will join me for my new Home Free Premiere tonight?
What's so mind blowing about this reaction is for her to have never heard of Lea Salonga.
I'm surprised you're so familiar with this song but not Lea's rendition. 💐
In case no one else mentioned it, Lea got her audition for Miss Saigon by sending in a tape of her singing, you guessed it, this song!
Exactly! She's so familiar with the song and i think the whole musical of les mis and miss saigon too. I wonder what else musical and singers she is not familiar with. 🤔🤔🤔
Exactly, maybe shes doing it for the views. As always these yt people
Shame on this reactor as a opera singer which shes done so much stage concerts of not knowing one of the best singers of the world. Idk it's kinda odd. But thank u for reacting tho.
Claude-Michel Schoneberg -- composer
How on earth is it possible to love Les Mis and not know who Lea Salonga is? Love ya, but that just doesn't make any sense 😊
ikr
Where is the lie 😊

One Man Les Miserables Nick Pitera Medley [you should check this out, just for fun, its a kind of feel good recap of Les Mis, also his medley of the Phantom of the opera is unbelievable too.]
Have you heard the wolven storm? the singer isn't even a professional singer, just a voice actor.
it's from the witcher 3
My favorite part is the cry in her voice at "everyday I'm learning"
Lea Salonga is a Filipina. Pride of the Philippines
Thank you for your comment. Have you seen my most recent KZ reaction video I just posted?
@@maggiereneemusic yes I have, thanks for your support to one of Philippines' great singers.
lea is amazing, She is the legend
Lea’s rendition is crisp, clear, smooth, youthful, honest, evocative.
“Classical technique saved my life in the most literal sense” - Lea
LEA is a legend / icon ! Incomparable. Proud to be Filipino !
That's why she is Lea Salonga. A treasure and a legend
Fun fact: In her series of auditions for Miss Saigon, she chose to sing Own my Own. Who would think she would sing this same song in the musical years later. Actually, Claude Michel Schonberg who wrote Miss Saigon and Les Miserables recommended her when the musical had another run, for which you are now enjoying this video.
I’ll never forget that scene with him on her first side-read. “I want to ask you a favour” in her slight British accent.
Thank you for your lovely comment. Hope to see you for my Premiere of a new reaction video to Superfruit in a few minutes?
She was born to be in theater
That is what I call a true reaction, you know what to say and what not to, and your expertise really is very evident. You don't do any BS just to earn followers, keep it going Maggie. You are gorgeous too.

Gotcha 😀
I hear you. One of the, if not the, most moving performances ever! And you get 2 legends singing, on top of it lol
My gosh their rendition, even standing up, was fan effin tastic (pardon my french)
Lea Salonga has the best diction in musical theater.
Everytime! Everytime i hear Lea, i tear up everytime! Her way of embodying the character and putting so much emotions in the song without overdoing it, so much finesse on her technique. Mmm i love her.
She is a LEGEND! NO CAP! She is THE LEA SALONGA!
Ms. Lea Salonga is a treasure not only here in the Philippines but the world. She is an award winning performer .. She been in musical theater since she was 7 yrs old and her rendition as the original Miss Saigon which won her both the Tony and Laurence Olivier Award.

I agree, DREAM CAST 😍
This shows is just fantastic. The acting and dynamic between Colm and Phillip is so good. Just perfect.
The tenth anniversary of Les Miserable was brilliant of which this came from.
Clarity, perfect diction & never out of tune, that's Lea Salonga. Listen to all her live performances in TH-cam and you will really know why she is the QUEEN of Broadway
“I love that for her.” Best. Comment. Ever.
💐👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻💐
Lea Salonga is one of my absolute favorite vocalists. Both her voice and her acting talent are incomparable. This is my favorite version of this song. This 10th anniversary concert was really amazing. A great mix of performers.
Thank you for your lovely comment. Hope to see you on my LIVE stream later today?

I'm surprised you haven't seen the 10th anniversary show of Les Miserables (which this performance is from). They cast ALL of the best actors/singers from ALL of the performances around the world to that date (1995 I believe). They do the entire show, plus some songs that were written for that performance.
💐💐💐💐💐💐💐💐
I hope I can see your reaction to the full performance of the 10th anniversary
The 10th anniversary concert of Les Miserables was called The Dream Cast (that was the actual title), and they definitely cast accordingly! Also, I think Lea was the only principal performer to play different roles in the 10th and 25th anniversary concerts. And I think one of very few people who took part in both concerts.
@@meredithchandler73 my parents made me watch it when it was released on PBS. I fell in love with the 10th anniversary performance. I'm not a fan of the 25th anniversary performance.
Colm Wilkenson is the best Val Jean

3 other songs I would absolutely recommend from the the 10th anniversary performance I would absolutely recommend are Stars, Empty Chairs and Empty Tables and A Little Fall of Rain. Can't go wrong though. This whole show is great and the diction in the ensemble pieces is :: chef's kiss::
Lea Salonga is acting with her voice. One need not watch the scene to understand and be moved but just close one's eyes and watch it with her voice.
We are so proud of our very own lea salonga. Perfect tone, clear & clean voice. Like an angel singing
She is a freaking legend!
Surprised you’ve never seen this performance! Glad you enjoyed it so much 💐💐

I fell in love with Michael Ball's voice watching this 10th Anniversary Concert of Les Mis when it played on HBO years ago. His duet with Lea Salonga "A Little Fall of Rain" is one of the three all but guaranteed tear rendering moments of the story. I love to hear your reaction to their performance.
Incredible that they were able to elicit so much emotion standing up.
Thank you for your lovely comment. Hope to see you on my LIVE stream later today?
she is the original ms saigon, besides blowing away every other role she has taken on in broadway musicals and disney movies etc. she has many great songs to react to. Agree with comment below, you should listen to her duet with Rachelle Ann Go for “The Movie in My Mind”
and everyone who has heard of Miss Saigon knows who she is.
The duet with Rachelle An Go blows my mind...such talent and perfection.
Thank you for your comment! Did you like my latest video reaction?
Hey @@maggiereneemusic oops..been busy, I think I missed it out but has been rectified. Yes I liked it. LOL

They once showed this for three days. I was so tired that I kept falling asleep on the fist night. So I watched it the next night.
Lea Salonga, and this song and version in particular, is the reason I am married to my love. She is a Filipina and for a while we had split up. Something she did hurt me terrible but in the end not total. Hearing this music allowed me to forgive what she had done and begin talking to her again. We celebrated 22 years back in September.

That's why they call her voice as Crystal Clear
Have a Merry Christmas!

I am a Filipina so I know Lea Salonga. Lea is an english speaker since she is a child. English is her first language. When she entered showbizness. Lea caught my attention because she is very fluent in english. As a filipina actress, she studied Filipino language in order to be casted. Lea as a child I tbink she is 7 or 8 years old that time when she joined the cast of the "Sound of Music* Filipino version in broadway

Thank you for your lovely comment. Hope to see you on my LIVE stream today in less than 1 hour?
Simply Lea was the perfect on this role..we love her so much❤
You have to watch her sing for Fantine in the 25th anniversary concert.
Thank you for your lovely comment. Hope to see you on my LIVE stream in about 1 hour?
I love how her lip quivers at the end when she sings, "I love him."
Thank you for your lovely comment. Hope to see you on my LIVE stream later today?
Even the pop songs she sings is sung differently to even the original artist because of her theatre training and experience.
she sounds like an angel! she is the Philippines pride!
Lea Solonga was the original Eponiene in London.
She was chosen to sing miss Saigon at 18 because of her diction and voice.

She plays Fantine in one of the later concerts (25th Anniversary?), so might be a nice way to hear her again. :)
Yes, her performance of "I Dreamed a Dream" is heavenly and heartwrenching. I could do without Joe Jonas as Marius, though. XD
Her Fantine is awesome too though I like her Eponine better.
Very shocking that you've never heard of her. Her Miss Saigon performances were amazing.
Same. That is what shocked me 😁
Same thoughts here 😬
me three.... I thought she knew a lot of people in theatre..... well, now we know. hehe
She doesn't know Lea when she's a broadway actress herself. Makes no sense.
I would have thought Lea would be part of any curriculum for musical theatre
When I did a bunch of musical theatre at High School, our director and MD as well, stressed the importance of our diction given that the songs tell the story. Without good diction, no one would know what we're singing about.
Fun fact: Lea reunited with Brad Kane(Alladin's singing voice) on Good Morning America 23 years after the movie's release to sing A Whole New World. It'd definitely be worth checking out, if possible.
Thank you for your lovely comment. Hope to see you for my Premiere of a new reaction video to Superfruit in a few minutes?
