Lea is Broadway royalty. She has one of the clearest voice. My grand parents owned a pizza shop on Broadway and I was fortunate to meet her. She is one of the nicest celebrity I've met. Huge tipper too! Love her.
For a non-singer Filipino avid fan of Lea Salonga, I am grateful to vocal analysts like you, which makes me appreciate music in a technical way even without possessing the talent. Thank you for sharing your expert opinion with one of our own homegrown singers.
In one of his interview,Morgan Freeman was asked how does he think we can eliminate racism and he answered "stop talking about it".From a Filipino to another, why do you have to mention her and your nationality?
Thank you for a detailed analysis of Lea's voice. I totally resonate with your comments. Lea is a phenomenal artist. I love the clarity of her voice and her beautiful storytelling style.
Spot on in your vocal analysis! One of the things I like about her is that she’s a very smart singer: she’s very aware of what’s going on with her voice as she’s singing and knows when to adjust and take care of it on the spot, prioritizing which notes to attack how as necessary!
Thank you very much for your vocal analysis of musical and theatrical artist Lea Salonga. Truly like your precise analysis. I absolutely adore Ms. Lea Salonga as she is our country's treasure and we all so proud of her. Just simply an amazing artist!❤❤❤
Thank you for your honest comments about Lea Salonga who for me is a compleat world stage performer with her impeccable enunciation, most pleasant voice and commanding stage presence!
What an awesome episode. Thank you very much... she’s one of the best we have and we Filipinos are truly so proud of her. She not only have a great voice, she is also one of the nicest person I had a change to work with many many years ago.
@@RachelGerrard yes. Way way back. I directed a tv commercial where she was the main talent. In between breaks, I hear her sing under her breath, it was something. I was just grinning inside me imagining that she’s performing for me. She’s truly amazing. Very very nice person.
My wife, girlfriend that time, (already a creative director in one of the big ad agency here in Manila that time), beg me make her my assistant just to be near and spend time with Lea because she believes that she’s Lea’s biggest fan! 🤣 I can see how happy she was every time we hear Lea sings. It was really an amazing experience. My whole team had an amazing time working with her. 😊
My wife and I were lucky enough a few months back to see Lea in concert (Morristown,NJ) for the first time and shortly after that saw her in a Broadway show where we hung around backstage right after and got to meet her. She still looks so young and still sounded so young. I remember an interview where she spoke about resorting to mixed voice to help preserve her voice during her prime where she had eight shows per day. It worked!
Thank you for doing a fantastic breakdown on Lea's voice. Love Lea Salonga. Followed her for many decades and she's 53. I know as i always minus "x" years from my age to remember hers. Showing my age...lol. I actually flew to New York to watch her close Miss Saigon in January of 2001. My framed Miss Saigon show poster with her autograph is one of my prized memories from the many musicals I've attended. Yes, she's been the sing voice for a Disney Princess. Not just one, but two,...Princess Jasmine from Aladdin and Fa Mulan from Mulan.
Wonderful video .. i really appreciate both the analysis of Lea i too am a massive fan and saw her in the recent Sondheim show . I love also so much the detailed technique discussion around registers and register balance, and vowel shaping resonance etc,,, on so many of the phrases, of performances of songs i have watched so many times ! Thank you
Lea was 24 in the 10th anniversary concert and 39 in the 25th anniversary concert. I ADORE Lea and hope you will check out more of her performances. I was lucky enough to see her in STEPHEN SONDHEIM’S OLD FRIENDS in the West End in January. It was fantastic!!!!
Lea has so many iconic performances, not only her gold standard performance of "On my own" (for me she still is THE Eponine). Still she is one of only two vocalists whose voices really touch, and I can feel their singing. The other vocalist who has that effect on me is Morissette Amon (and no, I do not have any connections to the Philippines or anything). Lea Salonga - Queen of Broadway and Westend!
Observing Lea in her childhood video clips, one can notice her speaking quickly and eloquently. Given her natural fluency, singing these English songs would likely come easily to her.
And she's already singing at a young age, I remember the vonTrapp family of singers, The Sound of Music, played in the Philippines🇵🇭, she's one of the young vonTrapp,
Filipinos admire belters that are so irritating to the ears. Filipinos admire showbiz personalities making them Senators, Congressmen, Governors etc etc.
She obviously intended to make it darker and bigger to make it distinct from her previous character of a younger woman. Everything in this performance was well intentional.
@@RachelGerrard Not much difference I guess although Eponine has always been characterized as someone younger. I guess Lea was just wanting to make a clear-cut distinction. Her Eponine performance was just unforgettable. Lea wanted to make sure that her Fantine would be just as distinct.
@@jetholpaanod423and it might have just been the characters themselves -- Fantine is someone whose light has entirely gone out, while Eponine is suffering but hopeful.
@@DinoQuintana True! Even though their ages aren't as far apart when they were singing their songs, Fantine has been weathered and weary of the world having lost almost everything and struggling to raise a child while being shamed and looked down upon by the people around her. Her light (hope) had simply been snuffed out, hence how life has killed the dream she once dreamed 😢
Since you asked, may I suggest you check out Morissette Amon. She’s Filipino, as well, like Lea. In particular check out Morissette’s “Stages Sessions” singing a handful of her favorite Broadway songs. Thanks for highlighting Lea’s talent. She’s a one of a kind generational talent. I think You’ll enjoy Morissette as well.
Lea sings pertectly, one of the few people considered as pitch pertect. Other singers just come second bit it doesnt mean theyre not good, its just that Lea is incomparable😀
I commend you on such a thorough and educational look into the great Lea Solonga. Please react to a fellow Britt, Lucy Thomas. She was considered a vocal protege at age 14. At 15 she was said not only good enough to be on Broadway/West End but good enough to star on Broadway. At 16,17 and 18 she challenged the great singers like Barbara Streisand, Whitney Houston Etta James, Edith Piaf, and Celine. At 16 she did a cover of Hallelujah which has amassed 1 billion views on ticktock and almost 50 million views on UTUBE. She is 20 now and is set to star in the forthcoming musical @Rosie” which should be coming to the West End Next year.she has 5 studio Albums and is leaving the studio to do live concerts. Her second in Tokyo tomorrow and 3rd on the West End on October 22nd. She is said to have complete vocal control and seamlessly switch between registers.
Please react to Ms. Morisette Amon from the Philippines, she's a phoenominal singer with viral videos with million view because of her singing techniques, thanks
Gift of singing and personal attitude are two different aspects of her life. I listened to her concert in Sydney Australia and there i felt so proud as a Filipino fan. After the concert, i and my wife had the opportunity to get close to her for an autograph. That was the time i was disillusioned with her stardom as she proved to be an arogant, selfish bratanella. Her true character showed up on how he treated us as shit the way she talked to us. Miss Leah respect is earned not demanded! You just lost a fan... Character really defines a human being distinct from animals.
Your Math is wrong, if the 25th anniversary you're talking about was in 2020 then Lea would be 49 years at that time, and would be about 53 years old now. And you do not look like you're in your 50's.
@@RachelGerrard Don't believe those Filipinos who hate Lea Salonga for political reasons. She supported a political figure in the Philippines before and some narrow minded Filipinos hate her for that!
