    I've watched too many reaction videos from Vocal coaches and theatre singers of this performance of Lea and I must say that I only understood about the reasons behind the technicalities and the over all musicality of this performance through you guys. It's so wonderful how you present and interpret your observations in a way that people who knows less or nothing about the technical stuff could understand; someone who understand this better than we do; someone whom not only have a background in the musical theatre but are passionate about it. I love what you said about the parts where Eponin was in a dream state and how she is when she's back in the "reality". It was like an "ahh" moment for me. haha....
    This helped me appreciate this performance even more. Thank you so much for that. Keep it up you guys and more power to your channel. Love from the Philippines!

    The great thing about Lea S. is every time she performs a song she doesn't just understand the meaning of the song but she also captures the emotions of the songwriter as they are making it. And be able to convey it to the audience with speech clarity and emotional tone of voice. No listener would miss any of the messages of the song, which is very important in a broadway musical.

    She needs to perform it perfectly because she was the first asian to portray eponine and the expectations of people for the woman of color performing white character she said on an interview

    I never get tired of watching this amazing performance... I don't wonder why she was chosen to do Eponine for this anniversary concert instead of the original cast. She delivered!

    • @nowthen.4363
      @nowthen.4363  3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Yes! I thought that. I mean Francis Ruffelle is amazing but it's a very different performance. I guess Lea had alot of success and recognition with Miss Saigon so maybe they invited her off the back of that. I'll have to see if she was playing Eponine in the West End at this time, I don't know. She definitely delivered!!! xx

    Very well done. I watched this for a second time and enjoyed it even more than the first time. Your editing was superb and your perspective from an artist's point of view was outstanding. Lea is a vocalist on a level reserved for only the greatest and your video pointed out her magnificence throughout the performance. And, almost taken for granted, is the contribution of the orchestra. The dream/reality sequences were stroked so beautifully and took us on a ride with Lea.

    I was working in London in the late 80’s and early 90’s, before moving to the US. I decided to treat my GF at the time to a new show - Miss Saigon. We had gone to Les Mis, and had a fantastic time (saw Lea later in Les Mis). She was such a talent, right from the start. Seeing her live, seeing Les Mis live, is an experience that is forever locked in your mind. Memories, thank you Lea!

    What makes listening to Lea sing such a transporting experience is you don’t get distracted by any gimmicks. You don’t even notice when she takes a breath. Does she even breathe when she sings? It’s almost not human.

    Watching this video react brought me lots of feels. Firstly, I got genuine and techncal views and secondly, I got some pointers on how to deliver a song like this. Singing is not just all about performing, it is about the ability to tell a story as well, effectively.

    O7:15 '..in the darkness..' in this part I always sigh too. I've never heard anyone sing, invoke imagery of the word 'darkness' in such a bright and positively magical way. It became the perfect backdrop for beautiful things or like a veil that hids wonderful possibilities.. her delivery defied the common usage of that word. She paints with her voice so well.

      Brilliant contribution. Yes I absolutely agree! The darkness is her beautiful fantasy world. The real world is full of danger and depression. X

    Another fantastic reaction! I will echo the request that you react to Lea and Regine Velasquez doing a Broadway medley. You will love it!!!

    Seeing how Lea is a technical singer and how she had to make her performances absolutely perfect back in the day, I would like to think that she has a basement somewhere that’s just full of notes on characters she’s played, their personalities in certain songs, her vocal capabilities in relation to the character, how she can portray her character through voice, etc.

    If you liked "On My Own" you'll definitely also like "A Little Fall of Rain" by Lea Salonga and Michael Ball - really puts your emotions on check. th-cam.com/video/IyPy2Iqq-NM/w-d-xo.html

    Queen Lea. If you have not yet, please react to A little fall of rain also from Les Mis with Michael Ball. One of the most heartbroken and best performed acts ever 🙏🏻
