Of course the other side of the voicespectrum; Geoff Castelucci, Ain't no sunshine. He is using something new with his voice. He goes to a specific note that I feel the floor shivering. And the volume is only on 20%. A voice which is filled with soul.

Maria Lea Carmen Imutan Salonga, OL, born February 22, 1971) is a Filipina singer and actress, best known for her roles in musical theatre, for supplying the singing voices of two Disney Princesses (Jasmine and Mulan), and as a recording artist and television performer.
At age 18, she originated the lead role of Kim in the musical Miss Saigon in the West End and then reprised the role on Broadway,[3] winning the Olivier and Theatre World Awards, and becoming the first Asian woman to win a Tony Award.[4] Salonga is the first Filipino artist to sign with an international record label (Atlantic Records in 1993).
Salonga was the first actress of Asian descent to play the roles of Éponine and Fantine in the musical Les Misérables on Broadway.[5][6] She also portrayed Éponine and Fantine, respectively, in the musical's 10th and 25th anniversary concerts in London. She provided the singing voices of two official Disney Princesses: Jasmine in Aladdin (1992) and Fa Mulan in Mulan (1998). She was named a Disney Legend in 2011 for her work with The Walt Disney Company.[7] Salonga starred as Mei-li in the 2002 Broadway version of Flower Drum Song. She has played numerous other stage, film and TV roles in the US, the Philippines and elsewhere. She has toured widely in the theatre roles and as a concert artist. From 2015 to 2016, she returned to Broadway in Allegiance, and from 2017 to 2019 she appeared in the Broadway revival of Once on This Island.

I really don't know what you were expecting from Lea as she sang this song. She sang as if she was performing it in the musical the expression as she sang feeling the emotions was a pure joy to watch and isten to not just a soulless rendition.

I think this performance is colored by the way Madonna sang it for the movie. Madonna sang it almost triumphal and big. This is more subtle and confrontational. Leah is more daring someone to judge her and doesn't care if she's adored.

Check out her version of on my own from the 10th anniversary performance of les miserables and her version of I dreamed a dream from the 25th anniversary performance of les miserables. I hope you react to more Lea Salonga performances. Her vocal performance and acting is so fantastic. I don't think Lea has ever sung anything purely classical. Someone else commented that there is an audio of Lea singing "Pie Jesu" (by Andrew Lloyd Webber). I'm a big an of Lea Salonga's duet with Josh Groban on "The Prayer" from 2019. It's from Josh's concert in Manila. Lea had recently broken her leg, which is why she appears in a wheelchair. They also duet on the song "All I Ask of You" from THE PHANTOM OF THE OPERA, which sounds wonderful, too, but I'm just partial to "The Prayer."

Before becoming familiar with her musical theatre repertoire, I only knew her as the singing voice of Mulan. And also, apparently, the singing voice of Jasmine in Disney's Aladdin, too. Such an underrated talent! Also, I don't know how old she was in this video, but she's 51 years old now, which is just ... Wow. So that would be the maturity you're hearing in her voice.

@@rubyzerda2893her/his underrated definition is lea is the FIRST ASIAN WOMAN to win the TONY AWARD... Was the voice of Disneys Jasmine and Mulan, played Kim in Miss Saigon at West End and Broadway, First Filipino to sign with an International Label (Atlantic Records), been an actress and host on over 2 dozen movies and tv, holds the GUINNESS WORLD RECORD of most advance sales in a musical... She is the original singing voice of Disney characters Mulan and Jasmine. She also was part of the les mis dreamcast as Eponine on its 10th anniversary. She is considered the definitive Eponine. In the 25th anniv of the same show, she played Fantine. She's still actively singing now at 51. Because of her healthy singing technic, her voice still sounds incredible.

what can I say she has a beautiful voice and did the song justice
I have heard so many version of this one this one being one of the best but still Like the Movie version with Madonna
Madonna version just seems to have so much more emotion in it then any others But then the first time I heard it was when saw the movie
I knew Eva well have read more then one biography of her and the ppl who made the movie did such a good job of portraying it I think the choice Of Madonna for the roll was one of the best move they made
So by the time I hears the song for the first time I had heard Madonna sing Eva life
So the way she sang it was as Eva not just singing the song

Yes, I remember she told a story about how she got a classical training. She's a coach on The Voice Teens Philippines. And someone auditioned with a classical song. So, she told her story to make the audience realize the importance of classical technique.
"Classical technique saved my life, in the most literal sense. I was in Miss Saigon, [...] but my voice is starting to fail. It was fading little by little, but I don't know for what reason, because never in my life did I lost my voice. 'Why does it seem like my body is rebelling against me?' So, the very kind producer of the show, used his own money, just for me to have the best voice teacher. The first thing she said 'I will teach you, classical technique, because that is what's going to save you. You will sing to survive. You will be able to make it to the next show.' And it's 8 shows a week. So, thank goodness, they reduced mine to 5 shows. But five Miss Saigon for a week is not easy."
    - Lea Salonga

Watch Lea perform “A Little bit of Rain” with Micheal Bell. That was the first time I really heard her voice. There is so much emotion in the song by Lea. I would love your take on it. It was so touching with just words, made me want to tear up every time.

There is no way she doesn't have classical training of some kind with her emphasis on enunciation. I love listening to her sing, because she's always able to be understood.

Lea did receive some classical training when she was in London doing the original MISS SAIGON (at age 18).

Lea has been performing on musical stage in the Philippines since she was a child. Her training started very young and she is also very disciplined as reflected on how she performs. Talent and hard work.

Yea, she's good but she's no Madonna...Thank the Gods of music. I still wonder how Madonna got that role. Patty Lupone and Karen Carpenter also did excellent versions, though I like this one the best, I think. Lupone was more emotional, but Carpenter was more melancholy (suprise suprise.)

As much as I like Lea, once you have heard the original by Elaine Paige, you find it very difficult to unhear it.

She almost lost her voice when she was starting so Miss Saigon producers got her a vocal coach wc trained her classically. If you're looking for classical song, not sure but you can try searching Ice Cream.
