Rudeus Greyrat in Mushoku Tensei (Jobless Reincarnation) has a very interesting romantic life throughout the story. In this video, I talk about Rudeus' relationships, from his first time with a woman through to his harem set up, as well as his performance issues in the ED arc! Favorite part of it was after the first night with sylphy, he mentions her walking Abit "uneasy"

In spite of all his power, the MK II, and his caution, in that moment, Rudeus understood that he had fallen into Hitogami's greatest trap. In his final moments, he called to Aisha to apologize to Orsted on his behalf, for he was going on ahead...

Honestly, the four of them going off to bed together being one of the last scenes is weirdly wholesome, IMO. Someone who started as a trash person worked hard to better himself, and in the end, had virtually everything he ever wanted, and justly earned it all.
And also indirectly created the best support group possible for his mom, stepmom, sisters, and grandmother(-in-law, Clair wouldn't be caught dead drinking beside Rudeus' bed).

You forgot to mention one thing about when eris left, she felt disgusted with her self cause she thought that she took advantage of Rudeus who if we dismiss the "hes an older guy from another world" part, he at that time was still younger than her as she mentioned, which is a nice role reverse thing since Rudeus thought the same thing at some point to restrain himself if i remember right.
That's a big concept that people forget and/or misunderstand. Women and men are more similar in plenty of ways than people think and as much as I'm all about "men have feelings too", something I had to learn through experience is that women can be just as emotionally and mentally jumbled up as men. It's cool to see that kind of depth in a series like this. Props to the author!
yup, she's physically older and stronger than him and remembered when he was running out of steam. he shows maturity but he's still fragile, and was certainly not ready for the family she was seeking

@@burck6113 Agreed! Men are often seen as being sex is fun or getting it wet or similar where as women often then to be shown as the more mature and emotional in terms of sex. But reality is that men and women tend to have the same emotional and physical value to sex. Sure, men feel insecure if it seems they can't satisfy their lover. But in reality, women feel the same way. And we are all different, so we also put more or less emotional weight on sex and that part of a relationship. And given how it seems the different wifes are explained, both emotionally and physically, in terms of sex, shows indeed that the autor understands that. Who could expect a strong warrior like Eris could so easily feel insecure about her skills in the bedroom compared to the battlefield? The most timid of all the girls, the one you might expect at first glance to be submissive, is the one that helps him get over that emotional hurtle of his ED due to him feeling like less of a man. I guess, it all borders down to the characters are written very much like real people, and that's what I like about this story!
Even if we take that into account, he is not just an horny monster, or at least at the point where it happens he hadn't been in a long time
The pressure of taking care of her, of helping ruijerd, of going back as quickly as possible was an important part all throughout.When it happens he also had a near death experience not so long ago, and he is someone who doesn't enjoy fighting, and who is very much scared of the absurdly strong opponents.
Being mentally older doesn't mean nothing phase him or that he knows everything, and that's especially true in socializing in general but more generally that world
I really appreciate that the true arc of the story is Rudeus maturing as a person. I LOVE the fact that the end of the story is him dying of old age, surrounded by his grandchildren and great-grandchildren, and having an almost conciliatory meeting with the (still undefeated) main villain.
He destroyed the main villain verbally though, he basically told him that no matter what the main villain did, it didn't matter to him anyways cause he was dead, the main villain just stood there mouth agape like the dumbass they are. I actually laughed at that part. Rudy's attitude was basically like 'Gg, get good, better luck next time kiddo' after signing off from life.

Here's an interesting fact. The Author, Rifujin, said he was going to write Eris having gotten pregnant from her and Rudeus's only night together. She was going to be pregnant and give birth at the Dojo and train while also caring for their son Ars. He later threw out the idea after having written about half of it because he felt that Rudeus marrying Eris because the they had a child would have been a disservice to both characters.
But can you imagine the look on Rudeu's face when Eris shows up five years later and introduces his son to him.
It would have been a good parallel with Rudy and Paul, since Paul conceived Rudy on his first night with Zenith
In this version of the story, it would create a massive plot hole for why Eris didn’t inform Rudeus about his son.
And if she does, I guess Sylphie and Roxy gets NTRed.
Unless we have her having trouble finding Rudeus, if it’s before he sets off to find zenith I guess Sylphie is forced to let Eris join Rudeus family… if it’s after then it would just be Eris but with extra reason why she should join the family. Also Hitogami might want to kill Eris son, one of the heroes who is going to kill him is her descendant.
Rudeus ED arc is both funny and serious. Because it really shows his mental damage to an extreme extent that his Junior is broken as well.
Yeah, it's not really funny at all, it just makes people who haven't read it yet laugh when I tell them there's an erectile dysfunction arc because it *sounds* like it'll be funny.
@@NatalieXHunter oh its just how he explains his ED that makes it kinda funny for young men to relate(since men usually do not explain ED like its your brother being useless). But the serious part is really how he mishandles it a lot. It washes away the funny bits of him calling his "son" not being able to get on and having a monologue of "My son got up" when he had an encounter with Sylphy after he mishandled it back when he was acting as Zenith.
LOL I kinda took those bits as Rudy being cringe, like, if a guy referred to it in any of the ways Rudeus talks about his penis I would have to give him some kind of Ram face as a response...
ironically though he still keeps his perverted ways even while he is in the ED arc.

I actually went though something similar like Rudy when eris had left after getting really close with him. Just like rudy it took me a while to come to terms with it and realize it was not my fault. Things worked out in the end with the person who did it to me but mental truama like that is real for guys. It's very hard to talk about or understand believe or not guys can see sex as emotional experience just like girls too. These experiences can make or break anyone.
For sure - though I think someone would have to be really lacking in empathy to think men don't feel that way when that kind of thing happens to them. Anyone would.

I don’t know why our society is so anti polygamy. Part of what’s considered shocking and inappropriate about this story is he has three wives. Even though it is consensual and mutually beneficial it’s still looked down on. It’s such a major element in almost every genre of story. It’s reenforced at every level of society and polyamorous relationships are condemned. Even the government plays a role. Strange considering Christian origins mentions having many wives.

I'm glad that the story goes through fully with Rudeus learning and maturing from abused outcast shutin to fully functional and happy adult. So many people were criticizing how perverted Rudeus is in the anime and I feel like most of them are missing the point of the story.
I like the fact this Isekai has a reason to be an isekai. Redeus' past life has major impact on his life unlike others that just has it as a simple start off point and never reference it again

You know as a gay guy I gotta say Mushoku tensei doesn't just offer fanservice there's plenty of manservice scenes and characters too. Granted a lot of them are with Paul (working out while sweating while his abs and pecs are in full display) and I don't really like Paul (Though I admit he has a nice body), Geshlaine's brother has a really bulky fucking body and that's pretty hot, Gisu has the male equivalent of a crop top in that era almost always, that sexy ass trail of his, his voice, and he seems submissive and good hearted my god the things I would do to him 😍. Reijurd is a fucking husbando like no lie his personality and body are keepers. I should also mention there are a couple bisexual and gay characters later on in Mushoku tensei but won't spoil who. I really like how inclusive the author is in that aspect he has the decency to give us manservice and even representation when he didn't necessarily have to.

When I started watching Mushoku TENSEI I was IN LOVE with the world building I thought it was so enticing and interesting, I thought it was actually an isekai that was GOOD and had original ideas. but when it started having ecchi scenes I was mad because it seemed like just like every other harem anime trope.
But given context from the novels I think the author knows what they’re doing, and isn’t using this plots / scenes just for fan service but for actual good story telling.
I hope they handle it similar in the animated series so it can be better to watch and easier to recommend LOL.

its a difficult one to pick a favorite, all 3 are very lovable characters, Eris probably put the most effort in her own way tough, and its kind of heartbreaking that she was the least loved one at first when she comes back, for me is a toss between Eris and Sylphiette, in my opinion Roxy is the one that could have been skipped, she did help Rudy to get out of depression but at the same time took advantage to crawl into the harem, that's why I don't like her as much as the other 2, granted Rudy is also a piece of work so I don't hold it to badly against Roxy hahah.

the thing about rudy with his girls is that when he finally gets with sylphy and she helps him get over his problems when he says he is cured its more of his internal damage. if u think it like this she really became his soul mate in this world. shes the glue to everything.. she let roxy into there family and in turn also eris. Rudy loves all 3 girls but sylphy as seen in the full picture never got with anyone ever in any loop but rudy means rudy is her soul mate... same can be said about roxy also with the past loops thing. but slyphy and rudy together is the true love part of this story.
How is Roxy not his soulmate by that logic? And I’m the bad timeline, Sylphy leaves him but Eris stays faithful to him, so wouldn’t that mean Eris loves him more?

For once, a story where I really want the harem ending and get it. It seems very fitting that he ends up marrying all three of them, considering how important they all are for Rudy and vice versa. Often, the harem trope feels like just fulfilling a fantasy, either for oneself or for the reader. But giving it's not uncommon (at least in our irl history) for cultures on earth to practice polygamy. It makes sense, why it's a thing in a story of a world that generally seems to be very western middevel times inspired. And the fact that it's not just a body count, but actually all girls that it's clear (even to an anime only), that he does care for all of them alot.
One question I have, I'm bad with names and don't remember what the girls back in the beast village were called. Is the dog/catgirl that becomes Eris' waifus, the two from that village? Are they in any way related to them, or are they just two different characters completely? Cause I thought it could be very sweet if it ended up being the two of them. They were clearly very attached to one another, and giving how you describe the relationship... I don't know, the romantic in my would just love that I guess.

No, the two beast girls mentioned in the video are related to the ones we saw in the village, but they're older and already away at university when Rudeus is in the village.

Some spoilers not mentioned in the video follow. (If you watched the video through, then you probably don't care, but I respect people enough to warn)
My impression of Rudy's thoughts on harems and family. I think Rudy saw the strain that Paul's harem protag behavior had on his family and decided it was not a wise way to live. I think Rudy intended to live monogamously, not wanting to be the cause of tension or bad feelings for his wife/family.
Then with one pregnant wife, he reunited with Roxy and there was not much time for relationship talk before the grief and despair hit Rudy and he reverted to his past life shut-in state. Roxy took Elinalise's prescription for broken men as the right course because it was the justification she needed to act on feelings that she was too timid to act on otherwise. Rudy then let himself be talked into expanding his family, because he had revered Roxy and now loves her.
Sylphy always told Rudy she would be kind to other wives when Rudy brought them home, but Rudy always told her she was all he wanted. I think Rudy said this because he thought monogamy was what would make his family and himself happy. Rudy never used the term harem in his new life before he married Sylphy. He was always interested in sex, and had to mature in some of his ideas about it, but I don't think he ever had plans to 'build a harem'. The genre of isekai has become synonymous with the harem genre, readers/watchers of isekais expect a harem and often call out female characters when they appear "First harem member! Second harem member!" But in this story I think the author did their best to write a MC that wanted a normal happy family life more than they wanted a stable of willing women, living only for him. The author orchestrated events as best they could to write a believable (in the world created) situation where the MC, through well intentioned living of his life, ended up with the mythical harem trinity. Some reviews of episodes by anime only's that I have seen assume harem motives from start. It colors their perceptions of things like Rudy's time surviving the demon continent instead of searching for lost family (a situation he was ignorant of, but they took Paul's side easily as they view Rudy as a harem builder already). My point is not about being pro or anti harem, but that Rudy always had positive motivations where family is concerned (in his new life) and the harem ending really is as one commenter put it, 'earned' by Rudy's hard working family first lifestyle, and valuing the people around him.
I think if you have the absolute worst opinion of him you are not willing to believe in his good will
Some people i have talked to in good faith believed that at the point where the anime is he has not evolved at all and is insincere in it, which is more subtle than that.

People focus on the horny aspect of Rudy and forget that he overcame 2 major flaws when he was reborn: He decided to work hard instead of being jobless, and he decided to honor family. He did not put this in as many words, what he said was that if he tried hard, and got up when he fell down, that even he could have a good life this time around. But every action from rebirth is the evidence that he decided to work hard, and value family, the opposite of his past life. He then fixed a third flaw when Roxy helped him leave the house, ending his shut in lifestyle. People hung up on inappropriate horny Rudy are not paying attention to the rest of the story.
Dang this is interesting, very few anime ever go through this stuff. Other than a show that aired earlier and was probably not queued to put out a second season

Oh really? I haven't read the manga so I didn't know that. I'll probably read it at some point but a lot of the LN/WN readers don't really rate it as an adaptation, and I've got all these millions of Index books to read ;)
@@NatalieXHunter I know, you told me before :D. I just wanted to mention it as a fun fact. And yeah, after a bit of re-reading after I read the novels, the choices the manga makes sometimes is heckin' weird. Like some of the changes are good, it's an adaptation afterall there has to be some, and the good or neutral ones preserve or highten the intended emotion of the scene even with some details changed.
But then there's the Sylphy chapter about their time in the Royal Palace before going to Ranoa where at the beggining of the chapter she has amnesia for some reason and then it gets cured after she dispatches the assasin. I read the manga before the LN and I was still a incredulous of that plot point, but now I'm like "Why??????", it's truly bizarre.
EDIT: Slight correction in the manga, the Sylphy stuff is 3-4 chapters but it still only covers what is a single chapter in the LN.

Have you ever considered covering topics from the 86 anime/ Light novels? I am of the opinion your character analysis would do heaps of good for fans of the series, especially anime onlies. You're very good at deeper character analysis, and several characters, especially Ernst Zimmerman, have a far more subtle side to their usual personalities as well as the series covering more nuanced themes in identity and trauma.
eeek, well, I'm anime only on 86 at the moment and I'm reading the Index series so I won't have time to read anything else for quite a while (given how long that is), plus, I know this sounds bad, but 86 content doesn't really do well on TH-cam for some reason, and while I do like to make videos about things I enjoy, and I do enjoy 86, it's kinda like, putting in all the work for something you know won't do very well is kinda harsh... I learned that from my Vivy video, which I still think is one of my best videos in terms of analysis, but it, well, didn't do so well for me!

Eris doesn't have an actual harem the two beast girls are just Eris's friends and subordanates. Later on they were purchased as "slaves" by rudious to save them, and they willingly became his Maids. Rudeus does joke about him being a part of Eris's harem with them but it was never stated Eris did anything with them besides training. They are all straight. Needles to say Orsted best girl...

I'm using Miku Miku Dance (MMD) but none of this is motion capture, I animated it all and it was... quite the undertaking haha! It's quite fun to play with though and there's a tool you can get to convert vrm models to pmx (which you can use in MMD).

its genuenly the one thing that keeps him going, very much like how religious faith can get you through harsh times. plus, this helps strengthenn his connection and admiration to roxy, which is exactly how he eventially ended up 'cheating' on sylphie with roxy, even though he genuenly cares so much about siplhy himself.

This series alone made it clear I wasn't Demisexual. My first relationship did left a pretty deep wound after the break up. I can't seem to keep it up on the first try with any of the women I dated. Even an orgy didn't help.
