Something I've wanted to try, and maybe you could. Set up a high pitch tone on your phone in a range that you probably can't hear but the camera will. Crank up the volume of the tone so that the camera amplifier cranks itself down. That way it won't clip when you make a shot. Post processing, filter out that frequency and crank the amplitude back up.
Oh the Emperor has waaaay more air space volume and quite a bit longer so that’s apples to oranges. The Emperor or Great Kami ade still the best for big bore suppression, but a TON more can on the end.
I would like to see the dB meter put at various distances until the background noise of woods at 50 dB is the same as the report of the air rifle. If you have a 300 ft/lbs rifle and get 50 dB at 100 yards, that would be nearly optimum.

Know a guy that has a mill and lathe, gonna work on designing one that will strip the air off big time at the muzzle before going through the baffle area..gonna make it to unscrew at both ends of the moderator so the rear can be left on the barrel..
Silencerco made a batch of .50 Muzzle loading rifles with a permanently attached suppressor. The Maxim 50. If you can find one, they are Crazy quiet with one 50 grain pyrodex pellet and pretty quiet with the full 100 grain load that is recommended. The rifle platform that it’s based on will do 150 grains of powder, but the 100 grain maximum is for the suppressor. It’s based on a Traditions Vortek Strikerfire. They shortened the barrel and welded a suppressor to the end. The whole kit that it comes with includes a brass tube that you slide through the baffles so you aren’t dumping powder into your suppressor. I’m reasonably certain that they discontinued it because they didn’t have enough sales to make it worthwhile to keep manufacturing. Which is a shame, because it was so awesome that I bought both of the ones that my local gun shop had brought in.
@@akseminole I asked around some of my NFA geeks and they said even pinned and/or welded a suppressor still needs a tax stamp. I have been wanting to get a .45 cal PCP but I have YET to hear one that is quiet. Am I being unreasonable perusing a quiet .45 cal PCP or is this attainable? What are your thoughts sir if you don’t mind and have the time please? Stay blessed.
That is a really good question. What I tell people is to go watch suppressed shotgun videos on TH-cam. Go find some videos of sub sonic shotgun loads shooting suppressed and that is about what you can expect: th-cam.com/users/results?search_query=Subsonic+shotgun+load+suppressor
@@tonybranton You can add "motorcylce muffler packing" to the inside of your emperor and it gets even quieter. The report my on .457 is almost nonexistent with the packing and extender.
FX recommends using higher caliber moderator for .177, .22, .25 are they saying if you have a .25 cal you should use a .30 is this correct and a common practice ? Thanks
Yes, going a size up prevents the pellet from clipping the inside of the moderator. If you have multiple air guns, I'd recommend buying the bigger caliber you can get and that'll give you the flexibility to use it on all your guns. I have an Emperor in .50 that works well on my .457, .30, and .22. The Great Kami is the best, but its gigantic. You have to balance size with how much suppression you need. If you aren't humping your rifle through the woods and you have something to rest your rifle on while you're shooting, there's not much of a reason to go with anything but the Great Kami. Maybe the Emperor and extender gives you a little more flexibility.
From my experience so far making videos you can't hear the reduction because of the SLM sound Level moderator making soft noise louder and loud noise softer , there must be a way to turn it off . But I totally agree about decibel meters not telling the whole truth .
I just ordered the Emperor v3 for a Pitbull carbine .357,thought about this model, but saw mixed reviews..hope the Emperor v3 makes the bulldog/ pitbull conversion back yard friendly
Should work well. I bought the extender for my .457. It works well. You can add "motorcycle muffler packing" inside the Emperor to make it even quieter.
@@kungfoochicken08 ..hmm, is that with removing the metal screen that wraps around the monocore in the Emperor and wrapping it with the muffler wrap material??

@@jamesdenny4734what he's trying to tell you is that you could build a silencer the size of a 55 gallon drum to totally silence the sound of the high pressure gas (either compressed air or burned gunpowder) exiting the muzzle when the cork / bullet pops OUT... AND STILL hear a supersonic crack from the bullet if it's over the speed of sound. And THAT'S why they sell subsonic ammunition, the flying bullet doesn't make a sonic boom if it's subsonic. In an unsilenced weapon with subsonic ammo you're still getting the gas pop but you wouldn't hear the sonic crack from the bullet added to that. In airguns, our moderators are slowing and diverting the high pressure gas and that's most of the sound from an air rifle since most airguns shoot subsonic. Interestingly, about 35 years ago I was visiting a friend in Sweden and he has a 8mm Mauser that had a silencer. Without it the gun sounded like most American rifles BUT with it it had what appeared to be half the sound. Here's the thing, we shot it down along a road and with the silencer and supersonic ammo we heard crack, crack, crack, crack, crack... We weren't hearing the hot expanding gas from the burning gunpowder, we were hearing the sonic boom of the bullet reflecting off of the telephone poles as it passed each one. (you hear very little of a sonic boom if it's going away from you, you hear it as it passes you.
@bobjoatmon1993 that I don't believe, n it was a little bit bigger than donnyfl's! Why would anyone use a silencer that still allows the sonic crack to be heard? That doesn't make sense !
Don't make excuses for not understanding and/or knowing how to properly measure sound levels. Just say, "I don't measure sound levels." and be done with it. You can EASILY set up a little range for measuring relative sound levels which will give you consistent measurements from one day to the next, NO PROBLEM. That presupposes that you KNOW HOW to do that. Most people don't.
No excuses. You’re exactly right. Most people don’t understand decibel numbers don’t mean squat when the perceived sound report will vary wildly based on your environment to include your surroundings and air temperature. So no… I don’t measure sound levels. Tone makes a huge difference as well. Thanks for watching.
smiles now you are correct about the deer , except i have shot at 500fps and had one jump and spin and land and then the 51 cal 420gr slolid hit and broke its neck drt, it was really funny. but yeah i kinda like a 300grain at 800fps better in 51 cal and a 160gr swc hollowpoint at 950 in my .357 aea big bore standard. yes it will do that. it puts a 125gr out at 1076 and a 200gr solid out at 915 on the highest shot. now my hp max is regulated , it puts a 300gr out at 350fpe for the first 18 shots. and a 128gr steel ball bearing a half inch in diameter it spits at 1080 so i had to put the great kami on it and a inner ported barrel i made. that sure is a nice airgun you got. wish they made them in 51 caliber. i am buying a second regulator for my hp max to see if i can increase the pressure in the first reg above 210bar doing that. but it will be moot when my 51 cal challenger elite gets into port, that girl puts out 540fpe with a 300grain hp. and does so like regulated with a 7fps spread. like nothing. i have not figured out how to integrally suppress the 51 calibers yet. but working on it. enjoy. nope i would not trade ya. i have $1200 into my aea big bore .357 and i love it 10 shot metal magazines that hold upto a 160gr hp . and the single load is upto 230 grain and all of it wont shoot pellets only slugs it just wont, they fly too fast. and i have $1300 into my hp max and that airgun you got there cannot touch what a 51 cal that is regulated can do. but you do have a nice airgun sir. Great video, and good info as well. I like building my own sound dispersion devices, for my airguns which i will only say here, i use PVC, yep thats right good old schedule 40 pvc, and one of the biggest reasons for non metallic material is that plastics in general have a VERY LOW harmonic value to them, whereas metals not only mimic the action of the other metallic parts through vibration but also the harmonic of the sound wave. Also in dealing with sound, there is a HUGE difference between hot and cold sound suppression or dispersion which also brings expansion and contractation into play. Needless to say, eventually the super educated on these sound dispersion devices will eventually figure out that METAL is not the best medium. Great video 👍👍
sorry bro, i can still hear it. i hear the shot. and my aea standard big bore is twice as powerful at 320fpe and all i hear out of my personally designed and installed integral suppressor on my .357 is a air tank thump. no shot at all. so sorry, you are incorrect. but dony fl does make some nice quieteners, i spoke with them about an adapter design a few months ago and told izzy they could feel free to make it their own. but the most quiet suppressor is not a stock dony. even my great kami needed an inner pvc ported barrel pressed into the front half of it before my 51 cal got really quiet. advice for ya, take it apart add another wrap of felt or even sweat pant material you cut into a square and wrap it and put it back together and tell me it is not twice as quiet as it was stock. kitchen drawer liner with the rubber bits costs $7 a roll on ebay and that works good too if you cannot find good thick felt. trust me you will agree and thank me later. @@UpNorthAirGunner Understood, but doesn't the ATF consider 'suppressors / silencers' "Destructive devices" (as dumb and idiotic as that sounds) as class 3 items requiring an approval and tax stamp?
@@CIA_Alien That is correct… when you put it on a firearm. Just like when I welded a DonnyFL onto my go kart exhaust = not a firearm. But if I took my go kart muffler / spark arrester off my go-kart and put it on the muzzle of my AR15, then YES it is a firearm suppressor.
@@UpNorthAirGunner Understood. If I was to tax stamp a DonnyFL for actual firearm use, would it withstand the pressures? Just watching, felt recoil looks very similar to a .308 or so. But I have never shot an air gun any more powerful than a Daisy (2 pump rule hah!). Perhaps having the barrel threaded for the 'moderator' could be achieved.
Old video I know, but I'm just getting into the science of suppressors. Problem is, I can't buy, own, build or even rent a suppressor here in Canadastan. I live on the east coast, and my intention is to travel to a gun range in Maine with both my hunting rifle and whatever FX Impact product I buy, then renting or borrowing someone else's suppressor so I can finally use larger calibers at an outdoor range. Most of the ranges around here limit hunting rifles to 308, due to noise. You'd think there'd be some kind of invention, like maybe a device you put on the muzzle that decreases the sound....!?? Frustrating. Not even a homemade attempt for a pellet rifle that isn't even officially a firearm (
@@UpNorthAirGunner Understood, and thank you. I thought I'd be disappointed by the lack of decibel readings, but that suppressed/unsuppressed sample was much more helpful. It's often hard to discern ambient noise on video unless we have a familiar noise alongside it. If only suppression was legal here. Even the Crosman 'QuietFire' technology (manufacturer-designed, cheap-o plastic baffles, as you're likely familiar with) - is illegal. I'm planning on driving to Maine from Nova Scotia to rent/borrow suppressors for my hunting rifle. Just trying to be a good neighbor, and most outdoor ranges block anything > .308. I'm considering an FX Impact Sniper 700mm in 30 cal, but if it's gonna be as loud unsuppressed as a .22LR, I'm wondering if I should bother. EDIT: Once I'm finished using suppressors in Maine, I will NOT be taking them back into Canada, in case that wasn't clear.
I don't agree with your logic on the DB meter. As long as you don't move the meter between non suppression and suppression you will see how many DBs the sound gets knocked down.
@@JH-zy1dj You’re missing the point. That number doesn’t mean as much as your surrounding environment to what it actually sounds like to your ear. Inside vs. outside. Heavy cover vs. open field. Warm vs. cold air. From behind the muzzle or angled towards a side. One Airgun brand vs. another with different hammer, spring, and valve designs. All of it can sound totally different in tone and perceived “loudness”. Tone matters much more vs. a few decibels higher or lower and there are very few devices and can measure the effect of the tone AND the decibel number. The best test is an actual live and in-person side by side comparison.
What’s wrong with u guys, decibels is different than frequency. Most airgun suppressors distribute the air so the frequency goes low. The decibels stay approximately the same. Ill give you an examples because I just read the comments and omg how bs scientists wanna be idiots are hammering the guy. Dont watch his channel if u dont think he is good. He is right. Back to the example. If u want to whistle you need to push the air through a tiny whole. The smaller the whole the higher the frequency. Check a real organ the more low the frequency is the larger the pipes. Decibels/ volume are different from frequency. If u dont believe me or brlieve him go buy an fx impact .35 it comes with a surpressor from fx and try to shoot it without the surpressor and measure the dbs. U will say the guy is right
This is going to sound harsh and I apologise in advance. Anyone supporting Donnie FL products with videos that say they are in anyway good, is simply paid to do so. They are terrible suppressors and I regret every penny. I've spent on mine.
Have an FX MK2 in various cals but it came originally in .25. It has a simple carbon fibre mod with no markings. Its essentially a plenum chamber with no obvious internals. Its currently pushing out at 70FPE thereabouts. The mod is as quiet as my legal limit 12FPE .177 HW100. I tried the FB2 in .25 as std mod. It was noticeably louder. I then added the plenum an it did reduce the foot Print by a margin. Even that was still a lot louder than the mod it came with. The FB2 is not cheap. The plenum adds a fair margin and the air stripper adds as much noise as it does spend. Now I am not anti Donny FL or Sabre tac etc. I like a lot of their gear. Even though as a consumer I think its pricey. And most of what I have seen seems well made/engineered. But when the attenuation cannot match a simple CF empty tube and a lot cheaper price then there is a trick being missed. I think mod performance is always tricky. If you buy 10 mods and put them on 10 different rifles, you will get a list of 10 results. Rotate the mods by 1 rifle the list of results will change and will continue doing so if each mod is shot on all 10 rifles. Some results may marginal. Some will he marked. What the FB2 HAS got right - if only in principle - is swappable dedicated cal cones so you only need 1 can for multiple cals. The theory is great. The reality was not up to minimum expectations. I saved a lot of money in one way but have to buy cans for .177, .22, .25, .30 and .35. ThecFB2 doesnt go up to .35 which was also annoying. Sometimes, there is no easy solution but to pay a lot for a mod that does not reduce sound footprint well enough isn't difficult to determine.
Suppressors are not rocket science. The only way to screw them up is to use cheap materials or poor tolerances. With your expertise, please explain why you regret getting a DonnyFL.
Your justification for not using a decibel meter makes no sense sadly. Yes results will depends on your environment, but that’s something you know so that you take it into consideration. Thinking that just listening to it through TH-cam on god knows what speaker or headset with unknown settings of recording is a better metric is ridiculous. If you want to compare sound volume of two different moderators, use the same tools in the most similar environments, provided details of distance and settings then just compare your results. Your point about just relying on the recording and the « feel » of sounds like a lazy excuse. Which is sad because I was hyped about your video.
You’re absolutely correct to have a data set that would have any amount of statistical or scientific significance would have to be conducted in a totally controlled environment with precision measuring audio tools and controlling every single variable to include enviromentals. But guess what… We don’t shoot in those kinds of environments. Also decibels don’t measure perceived tone. Also suppressors don’t suppress the mechanical inner workings of a PCP Airgun which consists of springs, hammer, and valve strike. My point is that a decibel number published is meaningless unless all of those things are controlled and since we as hunters and shooters don’t operate in those controlled environments, the number is just a number. Empirical evidence is the best indicator of sound suppression. Not being lazy… I’m a pragmatic extremist. 🤣

Crank up the volume of the tone so that the camera amplifier cranks itself down. That way it won't clip when you make a shot. Post processing, filter out that frequency and crank the amplitude back up.
Can you tell me the sound difference between the yoko and the emporer? Vast or minor difference on that big bore?
Oh the Emperor has waaaay more air space volume and quite a bit longer so that’s apples to oranges. The Emperor or Great Kami ade still the best for big bore suppression, but a TON more can on the end.
I would like to see the dB meter put at various distances until the background noise of woods at 50 dB is the same as the report of the air rifle. If you have a 300 ft/lbs rifle and get 50 dB at 100 yards, that would be nearly optimum.

I’m getting an impact m4 with a 700mm 25 caliber barrel as well as a 30 caliber barrel. Would a 30 caliber yocozuna work for both barrels
Know a guy that has a mill and lathe, gonna work on designing one that will strip the air off big time at the muzzle before going through the baffle area..gonna make it to unscrew at both ends of the moderator so the rear can be left on the barrel..
will the ryu silent my jts airacuda max in 22 cal
NFA exempt ? Wonder if it would do anything on a 45 cal muzzle loader ?
Not an NFA but Airgun use only and wouldn’t be able to withstand that pressure.
I am having a custom gun made next year and will be researching all of this for myself anyway. In my experience the pop when you hit target is louder than when the pellet leaves the gun with the suppressor
Sooooo true!
I have been wanting to get a .45 cal PCP but I have YET to hear one that is quiet. Am I being unreasonable perusing a quiet .45 cal PCP or is this attainable? When I say quiet I’m referring to say a moderated .25-30 cal PCP. Donny FL make an Emperor that’s pretty big and has volume enough inside maybe but IDK if it is going to make it quiet.
I put an Emperor and a 6 inch expansion chamber on mine. It's quiet enough!
And more than long enough too....

I think I'll get one n try it on my 177 condor! That thing is supersonic, i mean loud!!!
It won't suppress the sonic crack.
@UpNorthAirGunner well I guess I'm going to have to make my own!? I saw a video on YT a guy silenced a .22lr pistol. Thanks for responding.
@bobjoatmon1993 that I don't believe, n it was a little bit bigger than donnyfl's!
Why would anyone use a silencer that still allows the sonic crack to be heard? That doesn't make sense !
@@jamesdenny4734 Most .22LR standard velocity is below the sound barrier in that 1050-1100 FPS. That’s probably what your were seeing.

Friend, do you think yokozuna is better than Roning? Help haha
The Ronin is hard to beat due to its very large volume size, but the Ronin is really good to with a small form factor. Either would work great!
@@UpNorthAirGunner Thanks friend, I have the 2 .30 gauntlet and I want to buy a Donny suppressor, I thank you very much
smiles now you are correct about the deer , except i have shot at 500fps and had one jump and spin and land and then the 51 cal 420gr slolid hit and broke its neck drt, it was really funny.
but yeah i kinda like a 300grain at 800fps better in 51 cal and a 160gr swc hollowpoint at 950 in my .357 aea big bore standard.
yes it will do that. it puts a 125gr out at 1076 and a 200gr solid out at 915 on the highest shot.
now my hp max is regulated , it puts a 300gr out at 350fpe for the first 18 shots. and a 128gr steel ball bearing a half inch in diameter it spits at 1080 so i had to put the great kami on it and a inner ported barrel i made.
that sure is a nice airgun you got. wish they made them in 51 caliber. i am buying a second regulator for my hp max to see if i can increase the pressure in the first reg above 210bar doing that.
but it will be moot when my 51 cal challenger elite gets into port, that girl puts out 540fpe with a 300grain hp. and does so like regulated with a 7fps spread. like nothing.
i have not figured out how to integrally suppress the 51 calibers yet.
but working on it. enjoy. nope i would not trade ya. i have $1200 into my aea big bore .357 and i love it 10 shot metal magazines that hold upto a 160gr hp . and the single load is upto 230 grain and all of it wont shoot pellets only slugs it just wont, they fly too fast.
and i have $1300 into my hp max and that airgun you got there cannot touch what a 51 cal that is regulated can do. but you do have a nice airgun sir.
THE LAST WORD
Im not a 100% sure but I think on the 8th shot I think he killed a fly 😮
Would love to see this up against the Emperor.
It is louder than Ronin. Donny makes the progress in the opposite direction.
sorry bro, i can still hear it. i hear the shot. and my aea standard big bore is twice as powerful at 320fpe and all i hear out of my personally designed and installed integral suppressor on my .357 is a air tank thump. no shot at all. so sorry, you are incorrect.
but dony fl does make some nice quieteners, i spoke with them about an adapter design a few months ago and told izzy they could feel free to make it their own.
but the most quiet suppressor is not a stock dony. even my great kami needed an inner pvc ported barrel pressed into the front half of it before my 51 cal got really quiet.
advice for ya, take it apart add another wrap of felt or even sweat pant material you cut into a square and wrap it and put it back together and tell me it is not twice as quiet as it was stock.
kitchen drawer liner with the rubber bits costs $7 a roll on ebay and that works good too if you cannot find good thick felt.
trust me you will agree and thank me later.

Amazon has "motorcycle exhaust packing" that works exceptionally well for this and its like $10 for enough to do 4 or 5 suppressors.
Do the suppressors for these rifles require a tax stamp?
@@CIA_Alien No they do not. Airguns are not firearms.
@@CIA_Alien For airgun use only. It wasn't designed to withstand those pressures and heat of a firearm.
Not even a homemade attempt for a pellet rifle that isn't even officially a firearm (
@@OhGawdHesGotAGun All subsonic. Just a huge volume of air belching out.
@@OhGawdHesGotAGun Ya that is too bad. I’m just a few hours south of Canada here in Michigan. I feel bad for my Northern brothers.
ok..thanks
Looks like a rip off of the edgun behemoth.
U will say the guy is right
I would certainly like to listen to a gun that doesn’t use a hammer. With that silencer
Stay tuned! I just happen to have one and doing a test with the Huben GK1

This is going to sound harsh and I apologise in advance. Anyone supporting Donnie FL products with videos that say they are in anyway good, is simply paid to do so. They are terrible suppressors and I regret every penny. I've spent on mine.
That is too bad. There are hundreds if not thousands of Airgunner’s that have had a totally different experience (unpaid).
which brand and model do you think is better ?
Impulse air moderator
Have an FX MK2 in various cals but it came originally in .25. It has a simple carbon fibre mod with no markings. Its essentially a plenum chamber with no obvious internals. Its currently pushing out at 70FPE thereabouts.
The mod is as quiet as my legal limit 12FPE .177 HW100.
I tried the FB2 in .25 as std mod. It was noticeably louder. I then added the plenum an it did reduce the foot
Print by a margin.
