  • Scientists say a simple blood test may revolutionise the diagnosis and treatment of Alzheimer's disease.
    A study has found that measuring the levels of a protein in the blood can identify people at risk of developing symptoms of the disease including memory loss and confusion, years before they occur.
    It’s hoped that will lead to screening of people in their 50s, allowing early detection and treatment.
    Two recently developed medicines have been shown to significantly delay progress of the disease, so early identification of people at risk could offer people huge benefits.
    Alzheimer’s and other forms of dementia affect many millions of people around the world and ageing populations mean they are on the increase.
    Reeta Chakrabarti presents BBC News at Ten reporting by BBC medical editor Fergus Walsh.

    5 years is a long time to wait if the study is saying 95% chance of early detection 😮😮 I think that every time they show news like this, they should also let us know if there is anything the viewers can do to help it happen quicker 🙏

      Then you have to add another 2 years potentially to even get that once someone gets on the waiting list.

    Not sure of the benefit of knowing beforehand. Young people will have the curse over their lives which they can do nothing about. Wont be long before there will be a tickbox on insurance applications though.. you can count on it!

    Thank you. It's always good to see we're still progressing in these areas of medicine, even if only slowly. I think sometimes from a layman's point of view, it can feel like we're throwing tons of money at these illnesses and not getting much in return. It's important to talk about the progress for optimisms sake :)

    Bless all you the good news rejoice Jesus Christ the son of god is returning soon. The son of man and son of god had done wonderful then like helping the sick and injured, wake on water, cast out demons, feed the many, make the bline see, and raise the dead. Believe Jesus died for your sin with his blood. Buried for three days. An on the third day rose in a glorified body we to will have in the rapture. Repent your sins or face gods wrath of the great tribulation. There be 21 wraiths and if your there in this time don’t take the mark of the beast and accept death in faith to Jesus Christ. The mark be on forehead or right hand. Jesus love and cares about you he will help you feel that hole in your heart all he ask is for you to accept him as your lord and savior and learn about him. True tin the blood.Please spread the message…….STOP DELTEING THE TRUTH

    It’s an early warning, not yet a cure.

    • @morsmagne
      @morsmagne 8 หลายเดือนก่อน +5

      It could be a cure because the implication is that if the test were combined with using the new drugs, that might delay the onset of dementia significantly enough to effectively be a 'cure'.

    • @speicaldark
      @speicaldark 8 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Most diseases don't have a 'cure'. Modern medicine is more about prevention, early detection and managing the symptoms to improve the patient's quality of life. The video mentioned two drugs that can be used during the early stage of Alzheimer's. So if a low-cost blood test can easily tell whether someone is in the early stage, the drugs can be provided, and the patient's quality of life be maintained for longer time.

      because there is no incentive. It's more profitable to control a condition and infinitum.

    • @morsmagne
      @morsmagne 8 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@Dungshoveleux Your argument isn't logical because the people who research and manufacture drugs are human too. They and their own loved ones succumb to the same diseases as everyone else. Therefore, there's an additional incentive to create cures to manage themselves and their families.

      @@xx-wp3mq no there’s no cure, they said it COULD (not would) REDUCE the SYMPTOMS by 30% so basically you’re still gonna die from it but you might die slower!! Doesn’t stop the disease just reduces the symptoms is all!. So you could find out at fifty that you’re gonna die from dementia and then if you take their pills you might have a thirty percent chance that they might slow the progression.
