Because the average height of Indians is around 5.5". The Himalayan is also an adventure bike with low seat height and fantastic long travel suspension along with Ktm who also has a low seat height variant of current 390 adv. So this perspective of all must have tall seats only is a bit narrow and limited.
Cause it matters? Your average indian dude is not as tall as the europeans and we have much more cramped traffic and uneven surfaces on our roads than them. And there is a limit to how much one can push oneself to ride with half a foot on our traffic with a passenger, let alone offroad.
You have to limit one for the other. If you limit your suspension travel, you get a low seat, if you limit seat height, you get a comparatively shorter suspension travel. It's like a trade off and yes Himalayan has good suspension travel but not as good as this bike.
himi 450 and mt450 are adv with low seat height ktm should have a lower option to cater majority of the market. average height of men globally is 5'7..
I have only 8k on my 390 as I have 3 other bikes, but I have had no issues with the engine. It is the smoothest single I have ridden and it has plenty of pep for this 180 pd rider. I have owned several KTMs since 2003 and reliability has been very good which surprised me given their high performance. Are they has reliable as a Japanese bike, no but I love them. It is hard to have Japanese reliability and cutting edge technology in a high performance bike.
I own the 2020 and love the bike but I always wished it had a 21 inch tubeless wheel and 2 more inches of travel. They keep improving this bike and it looks awesome. I wish they could do more to lower the weight. I can't wait to see one in person. My 390 is comfortable on the road and awesome as a canyon carver , which is nice since I am on the road 90% of the time with this bike.
Great summary overview the only concern is the low under slung exhaust system even with a skid plate it will get damaged if used for off road situations will there be an option?
It’s probably the best looking small adventure bike in the show , in my view. If they can get the weight down to Honda CRF levels, it will be even more attractive.
Are there no pictures/videos of the touring oriented variant that comes with alloy wheels and tubeless tyres? These hardcore variants are pretty useless for the majority of junta except those who need to do hardcore off-roading/rally racing.
Now, I'm tempted to wait for a parallel twin (between the Tuareg 457 and the F450GS for longer rides) and choose between the KLX 230, the Hero Xpulse 210,the KTM 390 Enduro and the 390 Adv R, for trails/enduro riding.

The weight is a bummer but sort of expected with all the features it brings i guess. If they'd done mid 170's, that would've been the sweet spot. Also if it is 3.5ex, ill pick it up gor sure. I hope the akra and other cool accessories make it to India.
I’m on the Tuareg 660 and price wasn’t that bad. The weight estimate of the 390R is what caught my attention. The Tuareg 660 comes in at 450lbs so the new Adventure is pretty heavy considering the displacement difference. I wonder if they still put tubes in the new bike
