So for that siren/light control. Master Switch ON. Turn the big middle knob to a label of your choosing. Then you can hit that first momentary button next to the master switch. OR you can use the sliding GREEN YELLOW RED control to the RED setting. Boom, siren works. @autoauctionrebuilds
@@AutoAuctionRebuilds Also, those lights are not illegal to have.. It's only illegal if you use them while driving down the road.. At least that's how it is here in the Carolinas.. On the siren box, push the little lever to the 3rd position and then try the siren. Move the dial switch in the center to change tones. Some patrol cars have the boxes wired that the sirens will only activate if the rocker switch is in the 3rd position which also activates all the lights. If the Horn is working, then the siren tones should too.
Also the on the dial switch "Rad" means radio rebroadcast, so a police officer could have the two way radio play over the PA. in the video when you had the rocker switch in position 3, the dial was on rad so there wouldn't be siren tones. Every siren controller is different and every department can spec them different too. Just throwing ideas out there.
Man, you already forgot about the main breaker? I still remember you showing us one of those in one of your walkarround videos! I don't remember if it was that one you had resprayed in yellow or just a random police cruiser at the auction, but you discovered at the auction and made the lights and sirens work then aswell. As for the non-working strobe light, they're lights at the end of the day, it must've a blown light bulb.
Randy, try putting the transmission in Drive and turn the siren on. It may have a Park interlock that turns the siren off automatically when put in Park. Super handy feature for us when getting out of the cars quickly and forgetting to turn the siren off.
Flip the switch to the #3 position (red light) Then turn the knob to the MAN 1 / MAN 2 / T1 / T2 / T3 position and pres the MAN button. If the horn is working the siren should too since it is the same speaker. Hope it works!
love this taurus police car! i think i'd buy it from you if you ever sell it. keep grinding randy your kicking ass! cracking me up like a little kid when you got the siren working!

I'm happy to see you back in the shop showing us how we can take an old car and maintain and repair it for basic operation. That car makes me imagine that it is an awd, turbocharged, suction cup. It was cool u were able to bring a cop car to the channel makes good content I think I like it cant wait to see if u can get the crown Victoria running and see if the transmission works
I would bet that the '98 has the old fashioned strobes still in its corners too. Rarely do they go through the effort of taking them out of the corner markers when they go to auction. If you're lucky the old Wheelen strobe controller box is mounted in the trunk somewhere. If it is, all you have to do is run a toggle switch to the front and they would start working in that too.
Watch out for the water pump. In these coyclone engines (3.5, 3.7) the pump is inside of the engine and operates off the timing chain. Sometimes, high idle hours and high rpms can loosen the bearings on the water pump and leak into the motor oil which moves all over. You taurus is very nice and unique. I wonder if it was Pennsylvania State Police. Let us know whats up with it!
you have to put the slider switch on the top left of the of the controller right along to the right so you have three red lights to put it into code 3 to get the siren to work
Hey put the car inndrive and put the siren on. Some interceptors have a disconnect for that feature when in park as to not defin the cop. Also I have 2 spare led strobes if your interested in replacing them
Very familiar with those cars. The siren is linked to the gear selector. When the car is in park the sirens cut off. Try placing the car in drive, flip the light selector all the way to the right and turn the knob. The sirens should activate then.
That engine bay circuit breaker switch is tripped when out, designed for servicing police equipment. Departments disengage that when there are servicing, sirens, lights, and anything else related to police equipment. Once they are done, they clip it back in place and all the equipment should work such as your siren.
Just an FYI on the siren, I myself have dealt with this equipment, and have a friend who owns a shop building and decommissioning police and government vehicles. Those control modules are programmable. When they removed the equipment, most likely they used the programmer to remove the siren functionality. Any shop with the software and cable can reprogram them. But due to it being an auction car, most likely thats the case because the PA and Digital Horn work so the siren is properly connected. Some shops do that incase it hits civilian market to keep liability off of the department car originated from. Also varies state to state. Good luck with the ride.

Hi Randy, I would bet that the drivers side lights work it's just you haven't got the switch set right, keep playing with the controls and I would bet it all works, you just have to know what and how to set everything. As a last resort you can find the brand name of that control box, if someone made it then it will have info on the internet. See if you can find the owners manual online and if that still doesn't do it you can always ask a cop. 😀✌❤
Usually the car has to be in drive for the sirens to activate. If sirens are activated when the car is placed in park they automatically turn off. It’s a feature.
