This game was made for an arcade cabinet, same thing the Alpha games, Darkstalkers, Cyberbots, all the X-Men / Marvel Super Heroes games, and classic Jojo's.
3 years late, but yeah man. I was a huge fan of Capcom since NES days, they always had great sprites and overall amazing titles. Back in the day you couldn't go wrong if Capcom was on the box! They've made a comeback big time lately, but they were on top of their game in the 80's and 90's, pun intended.

A lot of the CPS 3 games were obscure, due to the fact that 3D fighting games were becoming popular and Street Fighter games had already had their run and most game players were looking for a something different. Around this time when this game came out, Virtua Fighter and Tekken were on the top bill. Heck, even Midway decided to make Mortal Kombat 3D with their first attempt on Mortal Kombat 4. Capcom later decided abandoned the Cps3 while they continued to produce games for CPS2. I found that weird considering that the CPS3 could do much more but I think it was probably due to it being to expensive to produce games for that Hardware system.
I remember back in the day, if you saw the capcom logo on a game, you were guaranteed to have a good time. Capcom was truly an amazing thing...wonder what the hell happened to them

mmm, hard to tell really, you see a lot of remasters and people still don`t give a crap about them ... darkstalkers chronicles, capcom`s jojo, capcom`s dungeons and dragons, wild guns even the first marvel vs capcom ... people need to accept that there`s a reason why some games are considered for niche audiences. Companies know this. There may be some exceptions but I don`t think that red earth would be one of them, as I said, the game was a flop even back then.
There is a silver lining in that Red Earth has now _finally_ received its first ever home console port as part of Capcom Fighting Collection, after 26 years of being left in the dust.
Red Earth released in Japan as War-Zard is a fantasy themed 2D competitive fighting game released by Capcom as a coin-operated video game in 1996. It was the first game for Capcom's CP System 3 hardware, the same hardware which Street Fighter 3 and its derivatives ran on. As of 2019, Red Earth is the only CPS 3 video game which has never been officially ported to home platforms, although its characters have appeared in later Capcom games. Red Earth takes place on an alternate version of Earth sometime in the 14th century (the Japanese version states a post -apocalyptic 1999 however) where the world did not experience any technological revolutions of Renaissance and was still in a medieval/mythological state. A new country has risen by the evil Scion, who sends out various monsters to take over the world. Four heroes emerge to defend Earth. I wish Capcom had done more with this game and this concept. It was amazing-looking and really had potential. Sadly, it seems Capcom never thought of it as more than a CPS3 tech demo...
Finally watched a playthrough of this game. One ongoing lifebar & leveling up were interesting. Castle exterior near the end was quite the background. Creative end credits. :) Thanks for posting.
it's less of a beat em up and more of a strictly boss rush mode fighting game and it's tough as balls in that regard, like you'd expect from a boss rush of course, a strictly boss rush focused fighting game was unique for the time and wasn't really a good fit for the arcade, but it managed to show off the capabilities of the CPS3 board quite nicely it would likely have done much better on the home market, but it sadly never got a port

Amazing game. Never knew about that one. Capcom made the best tournament fighting style games, specially talking about megalomania. Some characters in some games are a perfect mix of the aesthetical greatness of the classicism with the chaotic nature of the surrealism.
I always loved how the campaign mode felt like it skipped the drudgery of carving through mooks and pitted you against the bosses straight away. It's rather obvious from the power level of the player characters that basic enemies aren't going to pose any challenge.
Saw this in some arcades, but never got to play it. I think it'd do well with a home console release (and also on PC) with the right marketing push. Seems like a very well made game. Definitely visually appealing for sure.
Leo and Tessa have extra endings. In Tessa's, you can choose to destroy the alien creature (good ending) or study it (bad ending... But you DO see her naked...)

The bonus stage described by Col. Trautman: His friends admired him for carving such a beautiful statue. But the artist said: I did not carve a statue, the statue has always been in that stone... And then he smashed it for some experience points.

These characters really need to be in something like Darkstalkers as guest fighters. They'd fit in so well.
Zooftastic hmm i guess Capcom Fighting Evolution has 4 of them, along with 4 Darkstalkers characters, but everyone seems to hate that game.
The closest thing you would get is a manga called Maleficarum, which is a crossover between Darkstalkers and Red Earth.
Tessa is in Super Gem Fighter Mini Mix along with SF and Darkstalkers characters, albeit in chibi form.

Taking on the final boss with only a bronze sword and a wooden shield takes some balls - and we almost saw them, thanks to that skimpy loincloth.
