For those who weren't alive or at least actively out in the world in 1988... Let me tell you that for this 12 year old (then), this game looked very futuristic for its time. It was like every few months something would come out that looked years ahead of anything you'd ever played.
One of the best 2D platformers ever made, hands down. This arcade version came out in 1988, and these graphics still hold today great. Having beaten the game myself, here's what I got to say about the weapons. *Knife:* Basically the best weapon in the game. It's rapid-fire allows you to fire up to three at once, allowing you to spam the knife. Its special ability duplicates your player, allowing you to attack foes twice as fast, even though the clone is a little iffy to manage. This weapon works best against Red Arramers (or Firebrands if you're a noob) and utterly decimates Beezelbub. *Lance:* The default weapon. It works like the knife, but it's slower and fires more accurately. Its special allows you to utterly nail foes directly above you and directly in front and behind you, almost like a screen nuke except it doesn't clear the screen of foes. The lance is the only regular weapon that can be used against Lucifer, and in that case only in home console ports where you can use a level select code. In that specific case, the lance is the best weapon against Lucifer; as for other bosses, it's alright. *Discus:* This weapon glides along the ground if you duck with it, allowing it to decimate any foe in its path further than the Fireball could. It is the best weapon to use if you want to beat Stage 4 and the best weapon to use against Gassuto. It's special, however, is terrible. You summon a shield in front of you, which you can legit break yourself. I'm not kidding. It's a really pathetic shield. *Fireball:* This weapon has terrible range and is practically useless against foes above you. It's explosion glides through the floor more accurately than the Discus at the price of lower range. It's a bad choice against foes with certain weakpoints like Shielder and Astaroth, and it really doesn't work against armored foes like roots and the crystal-shooting tree stumps from Level 4. I only recommend this weapon as a temporary substitute for the Discus. It's special is a pretty good false screen nuke, however. *Holy Weapon:* It is the single most powerful weapon, with each hit being twice as powerful as any other weapon. However, it's got terrible range and has no special. It is the worst weapon to use against Ohme that is actually viable against it. Only grab this weapon at the 5th level when you've beaten Ohme with a much better weapon. Unfortunately, you NEED this weapon to get the chance to fight Loki unless you cheat the lance in instead. *Axe:* The slowest-firing weapon in the game, and you're not gonna get good aim unless you shoot it directly up or down. On the plus side, this weapon actually pierces through foes, allowing you to get multiple foes with a single attack. It doesn't pierce through armored foes, however. It's special requires you to get up close to your foe, which really isn't a good idea in a game like Ghouls n' Ghosts. *Sword:* I'm sorry, if you get THIS weapon, then you're a f***ing idiot! If you get this weapon, GET RID OF IT ASAP! A fair warning, this weapon WILL end your playthrough if you keep it around. If you bring it to Ohme, then the only way you can progress is to reset the game.

For me Capcom is hands down best video game developer of all time. Arguably best classic arcades, scrolling shooters, platformers, scrolling beat em ups, 1 on 1 fighters, action games and survival horror. To be up there in so many different genres for so long speaks for itself.
I wonder how the generation videogames would be today, if Arcade was the minimum graphics in home consoles when Famicom / Nintendo 8bit came out for the households. I bet in an alternative dimension we play with holograms today. This looks like a game that still holding up today.
spent hours playing this with my older brother. Sega Genesis was released and playing these games on it, we where excited for what was coming out next.
Ruby Williams Anti UTTP Actually the Snes had it's own unique mechanics. (double jump, different armor types...different charge mechanic) And it was a spin off. The Genesis version was basically a port of the arcade as close as the genesis could pull off at the time.
The mega drive version came out in 89, the SNES version came out in 91. On a console that had slightly better hardware to handle sprites and colors and sound. The Genesis version is an Arcade port. The SNES version was made to sell consoles so it showcases allot of the SNES strengths. I have fond memories of both.
33:48 "As Arthur and the Princess rode off towards the kingdom, they both looked back. Staring back at them from the distance, was a shadowy cloud with a demonic looking face with evil red eyes. Arthur shielded the Princess yet still stared back at the dark demon. Knowing deep down...his battle wasn't over yet...
wow the arcade version is like a totally different game from the super NES one! What are some of the other classic arcade games out there besides this & battletoads? The graphics in these old school arcade games rival the stuff from today!
Ghouls And Ghost was never ported to the Snes. Super Ghouls And Ghost on the Snes is entirely a new episode, which explains the different graphics, levels and some weapons
I love the Ghost and Goblins series it brings back memories from my childhood. I used to play this game on arcade and Sega Genesis. I have this for on Capcom Classic Collections ps2 and Playstation portable.
Ghouls ‘n Ghosts (Arcade) All bosses 4:35 Boss 1: Armored Goblin 7:18 Boss 2: Fire Lion 9:57 Boss 3: Kracko from Kirby 13:37 Boss 4: Behold! The Biggest Maggot of all!!!! 15:44 Mini boss 1: The final boss from Ghosts ‘n Goblins 15:59 Mini boss 2: Armored Goblin but this time just a head 16:13 Mini boss 3: The final boss from Ghosts ‘n Goblins but there’s 2 of them! 16:28 Mini boss 4: Kracko again 17:19 Boss 5: Wasp (wow! That happened quickly!!) 29:35 Final Boss: Lucifer
I must admit. The arcade version had more realistic enemy and boss movement effects compared to the Sega Genesis version. It even had an intro and attract mode that showed how the princess and her castle was under attacked by the demons since three years passed as opposed to the Sega Genesis. Lucifer was also called Loki in Sega Genesis version. The only boss whose awakening movements were absent in the Sega Genesis was Shielder who was awakened from his statue form to take off his head and prepare to fight Arthur.

The ground tiles in stage 3 in the normal stage predicted the modern sprites in indie games
This was so hard for me to play when I was younger. 1st time I got to the castle, and I was like what the... again? Then I lost the weapon had to do it again and finally beat this. Ending the torment of a semi-hard game.
Still looks amazing, true classic right here boys
capcom has a lot of those lol
I made it to stage 2 on sega genesis version and that was it for me. One of the best and hardest games ever. The dude playing is a real god gamer and makes it look easy =)
This game is pretty cool
I love all the animations
They put much love and effort into this game
Thanks for the upload! Childhood memories kicking in. Good times!
I remember in my childhood when I had a cd with a thousand games, including this game.
I memorize all the mechaniques of this game & to tell you, it take me days before completing the whole game. Same as the Ultimate Ghost 'n Goblins. Yeah, the difficulty of the game is so hard but thats the reason why im playing it all again & again Lmao
30:04 CONGRATURATION!
FknGantisms mazic = magic
FknGantisms defeater = defeated
FknGantisms the most funny haha
Ghouls'n Ghouts'! oh man, they don't know the game's name...
Lmao.
@@CircleofShit "Congraturation", meaning: I saturate you in congrats.. ;)
that worm boss is called "The Caecilia"
i just googled it recently and found out it's not a worm at all, but an amphibian, like a frog.
the more you know. . .
I thought it was called Ohme
@@Nomi_MirXa it is
0:45 SNIPER! Princess down!! D:
I just beat this game at my local arcade yesterday! Absolutely love it.
For me Capcom is hands down best video game developer of all time. Arguably best classic arcades, scrolling shooters, platformers, scrolling beat em ups, 1 on 1 fighters, action games and survival horror. To be up there in so many different genres for so long speaks for itself.
I had a slight nervous breakdown when you traded the knives for the sword, but in the world of save states, anything can be done.
Gabriel Fischer the axe and sword are shit
@@mr.cifuentes1779 agreed on the axe.. however I thought it was cool to see Arthur with a sword... the SNES box art left me disappointed
@@mr.cifuentes1779 The sword was awesome. It did twice the amount of damage to anything. It can take out Shielder in 4 hits
This game brings so much stressing memories. My cousin introduced me to this game way back. Finally figured out the name of this game!
Did you just beat the game twice without being touched?
MassAveTrav01 They use save states so...
Insert molestation joke here please
I wonder how the generation videogames would be today, if Arcade was the minimum graphics in home consoles when Famicom / Nintendo 8bit came out for the households. I bet in an alternative dimension we play with holograms today. This looks like a game that still holding up today.
spent hours playing this with my older brother. Sega Genesis was released and playing these games on it, we where excited for what was coming out next.
I never seen this game in any arcade. Ghosts and goblins was everywhere but this I only seen on console.
What sorcery is this?!?!?!
No mere mortal could achieve such a feat....
Sdd dos tempos em que os jogos tinham alguma dificuldade. Hj é uns joghuim NUTELLA
Truly amazing gameplay. This is one of the toughest of its era, for sure.
I wasn't aware at just how closely related the Genesis version was to the arcade.
the snes version is entirely different
the only one on snes is super ghouls n ghosts and its a totally different game
its a sequel i guess
Ruby Williams Anti UTTP
Actually the Snes had it's own unique mechanics. (double jump, different armor types...different charge mechanic)
And it was a spin off.
I have fond memories of both.
the throwing knifes are really OP in this game, anyway great gameplay I like it!

"As Arthur and the Princess rode off towards the kingdom, they both looked back. Staring back at them from the distance, was a shadowy cloud with a demonic looking face with evil red eyes. Arthur shielded the Princess yet still stared back at the dark demon. Knowing deep down...his battle wasn't over yet...

Damn, that's quite a dark intro for such a comedic game, isn't it?
This game was based on a true story
@@robertwilson3866😲
The Genesis got very very close to pretty much everything... Very impressive.
Very difficult game but i always liked it. Great graphics for that time.
Kneel before one of the hardest platformers ever relased in gaming history!
wow the arcade version is like a totally different game from the super NES one!
@@deceiver444 They do look very similar though. It looks like the new resurrection game is reusing sum enemies from the arcade game.
@@peterc504 Both arcade games actually
I've beat this dozens of times on genesis and about twice in arcades. I die a lot though and you didn't even lose your armor. Wow great job!
Christ, that's a long time to run in a suit of armour!
Graphically and sonically superior to most games of its day
Watching this playthrough brought back my PTSD...
Imagine if this was a Mario game, and Mario had to go through it all over again to beat Bowser.
Mario: ~sigh~ Mama fucka!
PARABÉNS MEU AMIGO VOCÊ JOGA MUITO BEM . 🎉🎉🎉🎉 EU NÃO CONSEGUI GANHAR ATE O FINAL .
I love the Ghost and Goblins series it brings back memories from my childhood. I used to play this game on arcade and Sega Genesis. I have this for on Capcom Classic Collections ps2 and Playstation portable.
Yeah you finally showed me the knight in gold armor. This game is just perfect for Halloween, even though it's not dungeons and dragons. 🎃
this game was a test of mind, body, and soul
Games like this from the 80s just goes to show you that great ideas and imagination can be born from good quality drugs.
This game is pretty tough but that one weapon is ridiculously overpowered.
17:56 oh gee, thanks gramps, would've loved to know that piece of info _TWO HOURS AND A HUNDRED QUARTERS AGO_
Ghouls ‘n Ghosts (Arcade) All bosses
4:35 Boss 1: Armored Goblin
7:18 Boss 2: Fire Lion
9:57 Boss 3: Kracko from Kirby
13:37 Boss 4: Behold! The Biggest Maggot of all!!!!
15:44 Mini boss 1: The final boss from Ghosts ‘n Goblins
15:59 Mini boss 2: Armored Goblin but this time just a head
16:13 Mini boss 3: The final boss from Ghosts ‘n Goblins but there’s 2 of them!
16:28 Mini boss 4: Kracko again
17:19 Boss 5: Wasp (wow! That happened quickly!!)
29:35 Final Boss: Lucifer
Video game logic. The character moves just as fast in full plate armor as he does in just a diaper.
Yikes, so to defeat Lucifer, you have to beat the game twice in identical plays?
Yep
The megadrive version of this game is maddeningly hard but it keeps pulling you back for more.
8:14 Get the knife. Get the knife. Get the knife. G E T T H E K N I F E.
8:16 NOOOOOO
Angry Video Game Nerd at his best. Get the knife!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I'm not a gamer, but this was the shit when it was released. Absolute classic game!
Farthest I ever made it to was the second level, but not past the quicksand. This game doesn't mess around.
This is straight up a perfect run. Holy shit Schlauchi.
Never knew Kracko from Kirby was in this game!
And Flaming Leo is in one of them
The predator's mask was too
Except Kirby came out in 1992. This was 1988!
Wonderfully hard as nails piece of gaming history
29:50 also that bird struggling to lift her is hilarious to watch.
What I'd like to know is... *_why is the game telling us the Princess's bust, waist, and hip measurements at the end...???_*
The game itself looked very good given when it came out... and the difficulty of playing made it very exciting to play.
This was one of the hardest games ever made. Still loved playing it though
what a cool game ladies and gentlemen....with castlevania IV,and zelda.....the best at that time
This is the actual arcade rom.
One of the hardest video games ever without a doubt.
