And it turned out miles better than Tommy Wisaeu's "The Room" (well, unless the mileage was changed by Matilda's dad of course. see what I did there? 😉)

The FBI sees the father taking a box out of the garage and taking it to work with him every morning, and they suspect that in the box is stolen car parts, and it is.
When the rest of the Wormwoods went to the airport to fly to Guam the FBI had enough evidence to prosecute Harry, so maybe when they got to the airport, the FBI arrested Harry.

You know, thinking about it, it was actually sort of sweet that he even took Matilda to work in the first place. Considering that he had no problems leaving her alone since she was in diapers, there are moments in the movie where he and the mom show that they have some care for her. She was just so different from them that they didn’t mix, but thankfully she still ended up with a happy ending.
Danny Devito cared for Mara Wilson IRL as well. Her mother was dying of cancer and her was a surrogate father figure to her the whole time. He even made sure that her mother got an advanced copy of the movie before she died.
Their characters were made to be completely unlikable period, the best part of this movie is the importance of adoption, but it seems unlikely any judge would allow a single parent to adopt a child that's not a direct member of the family

I grew up watching this movie as a kid. I couldn’t speak English and didn’t understand what was going down. Seeing this again for the first time in a long time really makes me appreciate this film. This is actually a really funny and well written scene with her dad

Because a long time ago, he did get screwed over by a crook of a car dealer. He got sold a '78 Chevy C10 pickup, and the oil was literally sludge, and the air filter was so clogged that it was literally black.
Funny enough, Danny Devito and Rhea Perlman were absolute gems to Mara Wilson during filming and helped get her mom an early copy of the movie before she died of cancer.

I like how Danny DeVito plays a bad guy as the father, but he’s also the narrator who is a good guy. It kinda balances things out I think, so you’re not just disgusted by DeVitos voice.

I grew up watching this movie as a kid. I couldn’t speak English and didn’t understand what was going down.
Seeing this again for the first time in a long time really makes me appreciate this film. This is actually a really funny and well written scene with her dad
