Starfield Bad Reviews | But Did You Play the WHOLE Game Though? |

  • I have watched all the bad reviews by content creators rushing to get out a review, but not actually playing the WHOLE game, which at this point since its release, would be impossible. And I'm not just talking about the story, which seems to be the only thing many creators are reviewing. But is it fair to judge Starfield this early based premature reviews?
Starfield is the first new universe in over 25 years from Bethesda Game Studios, the award-winning creators of The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim and Fallout 4.

I've got almost 1500 hours in Starfield, and i did ultimately get bored with it a couple weeks ago, so I took a break.
Most people don't understand that the emptiness is the point. You are Starborn. You are not like other people. You can go anywhere and do anything and nobody else understands. They are a pale shadow of what you are. They barely think at all. They barely act at all. Universe after universe after universe, they say and do the same things. You watch them have the same conversations in the same places at the same times, as though they do not really have any meaningful existence in the first place.
They are not any sort of company. They parrot the same banal observations and have the same petty problems, every time. Sam can't get along with his dad. Barrett isn't over his ex. Andreja is conflicted over her religion. And even when you help them, when you walk them through the problem and reach a conclusion that should be satisfying... nothing really changes. You can't love them, not really, they don't love you back any more than a pet goldfish does.
The Emissary tried to tell you. These people are not ready. They are not even people yet. They may be, one day, but not today. You can help them, shepherd them, assist them, they do not notice. They do not care. Why do you work so hard? What is the point? You don't make any real difference, in the grand scheme of things.
The Hunter tried to tell you. These are not real people. Why do you care? You can carve your way through thousands, millions, with lasers and blades and your bare hands. Then you'll walk into the Unity and there they are again, all of them, as though nothing has happened. Why do you restrain yourself? What is the point? You don't do any real damage, in the grand scheme of things.
Same as it ever was. Same as it ever was. Same as it ever was. AND THE DAYS GO BY.
It's kind of like playing a game, isn't it? You help these people with their problems and nothing changes. The world doesn't change. Their lives don't change. They don't even say different things. They don't feel anything; they're bits of code running on a machine. They can go through the motions of being your friend and falling in love with you and marrying you and having your children, but they can't REALLY. They're not real friend or lovers or spouses, and the children aren't real either. Nothing is real. None of it is real. You, the player, are the only real person in the game.
This is not a design flaw. It was not a mistake. It is not bad world design. It's very intentional.
This is the point. The emptiness. The isolation. The repetition. And most people are just... too dumb to grasp that. I'm sorry, but it's true. The people who play this game and get frustrated that it's about being the only person who matters in a world that does the same thing over and over, just like every Bethesda game ever, are simply not that bright. Starborn. Dragonborn. Sole Survivor. Same as it ever was.
Is real life so different? You get up. You go to work. You do the same thing you did yesterday. You go home. You watch TV, play videogames, drink. You go to bed. Nothing matters. Nobody cares. Same as it ever was.
    And the days go by.
Maybe if you got a different job. Maybe if you went to a different city. Maybe watch different shows, play different games, drink different liquor. Maybe go to bed in different places, with different people. Maybe that will change. Maybe it will matter. Maybe someone will care. But no. Same as it ever was.
Shahvee tried to tell you, all those years ago, on the docks outside Windhelm. Sometimes life puts you in difficult circumstances that you didn't choose, but being happy or unhappy is a choice that you make, and what is the point in being miserable all the time?
So here you are, Starborn, in a difficult situation you didn't choose. Where being happy or unhappy is a choice you make. And there you are, dear player, in a difficult situation you didn't choose. What choice will you make?
To be miserable all the time?
    Same as it ever was.

I was just about to close up my laptop for the night, but knew I had to check this comment section first and braced myself for the onslaught of Starfield haters, mad that the game wasn't what they wanted, and so, they take it out on me this video, this thread. I have to say that not only was this a pleasant surprise, I was moved. Not only do you get it, you blew my mind. I haven't gotten close to your gameplay hours, but I can say thank you, for playing the whole game. Although It would probably have taken me a bit longer to see the whole picture like you did, you revealed the brilliance of this game, thank you. This is THEE most incredible review of this game I have ever heard. Ever. I would live to post your comment on my discord, and share it in a stream. Thank you for sharing.

I also find the Hunter to be an interesting person. When I first heard his view of things, immediately I thought he is a reflection mirroring most players. As a long time gamer and souls player, it was just obvious.
A player on his first playthrough might be more inclined to follow some moral principles for the character he plays than someone who has done more than one playthroughs with the same character already. There's a point when players might stop caring about certain decisions, they start to see the world in a similar way you have described it. And this may lead them to be mean or even cruel towards some characters they were nice to before.
This is the way to get more like the Hunter. To me it seems that you have embraced his ways in your thinking while playing so many hours.

With the May and June update it is now a great game. Can you get bored after 500 hours? Sure, 500 hours that’s a lot of play time. I personally think the game as it is now is a well balanced fun game. I’m still finding new and interesting content after 500 hours.

I respect your views but I agree with the critics on this one. Starfield got me to try No Man's Sky and it's just way more fun. Starfield needs a major overhaul to make exploration more fun and immersive. Bethesda marketed Starfield as "Skyrim in space" but it feels more like an incomplete Mass Effect 1. Even when the Creation Kit arrives, mods can only do so much.
The loading screens didn't bother me at first but after 70+ hours later all the loading screens and cutscenes really does make exploration feel disjointed. Space in Starfield feels a green screen backdrop to fight ships and watch cutscenes of grav jumping or interplanetary travel. I want to fly into the atmosphere from planet to planet and land wherever I want. Not clicking a menu to choose my landing spot and watching a cutscene.
Planet exploration is not much better. Scanning the same creatures multiple times to 100%, running or boost pack jumping 5-10 minutes just to reach the same copy/paste POIs. Starfield's outposts flat out suck all around. You have to run around 10-15 minutes looking for a "sweet spot" to plant your beacon.
I like Starfield's ship building, decent combat (especially in zero gravity interiors like the space casino) and some interesting 'one and done' quests like Walter's Neon quest with you mentioned with buying the artifact and the sneaking sections but the overall gameplay loop gets boring fast. The Constellation companions are all annoying as hell complaining about damn near everything you say or do. The Adoring Fan is the best companion because he at least praises you and doesn't give a damn about you being a space pirate or stealing some ammo.
Starfield will hopefully be a whole new beast 3-5 years later but right now Starfield is basically a soap opera, fast travel simulator. You shouldn't need to reach NG+ before the real game begins. The real game should begin when you press "start".

    • @SistaCitizen
      @SistaCitizen  8 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

Again, if you played the game long enough, with NG+, you can traverse the landscape at light speed fully encumbered, without worrying about oxygen, faster than you could in a vehicle. 1 min tops, and its quite fun using your powers in sync. More challenging than just driving, or driving the clunky vehicles in NMS and way more fun IMO. Secondly, if you watched the whole video, I explained the scanning is for building outposts for which to grow plants and animals to make products. You don't even have to do it if you aren't planning on botany or zoology. The credits you get for 100% scan is chump change once you get into manufacturing, or stealing higher level ships in high level systems. There are at least five other companions that you can acquire, by playing the game, that also don't give a dam what you do, I have two of them with me now to pirate UC ships. I never use the Constellation companions except Andreja for stealth missions. The POI in NMS consists of buildings with a terminal where you get a few bits of ferrite if you answer a question right, or a gek selling resources you don't need. Settlements in NMS are uncustomizeable and produce worthless resources. NMS = animation when you land your ship, and loading screen when you warp. And as a female player, it is finally nice to have a female body, hair, and armor that doesn't make me look like a football player. I could never get immersed as my character. "Modders can only do so much" is a ridiculous statement. Skyrim / FO4 were not masterpieces when they launched. Its not until modders create the mods to allow people to play the game how they want for as long as they want. This release is the canvas, that will be built upon for over a decade I'm sure. True Bethesda fans know this. And modders WANT to do much, so they can get hired by dev companies. People swear modders are just burdened over worked martyrs spending hours and hours creating mods or fixing the game, out of the kindness of their hearts. Its a resume. And their form of art to which they also make an income through their socials, or again, collabs with devs. And if ME is so greatt, why arent people still playing it in record numbers over and over for lets say 12 years like Skyrim? Bethesda knows mods keep their games relevant, so providing the cleanest canvas for modders is smart, keeping the engine basic so that modders are familiar with the kit, so that mods are available on console early next year, so fast is a massive achievement. But thank you for your comment

      @@SistaCitizen I agree to disagree.
I'm already using a few mods to enhance Starfield since the vanilla game and it's still not enough to keep me invested in its current state.
What's ridiculous is people saying you need to reach NG+ before the game gets good. 70+ hours is enough for me to see Starfield has a boring gameplay loop in its current state.
Modders work for a resume but still they should not have to carry the burden of fixing Bethesda's shortcomings. Bethesda spent 5+ years working on a barebones space RPG that looks awesome at one moment and looks like a PS3 game the next.
Many people still play ME1. Why else would Bioware release the Legendary Edition? It's a great story with immersive lore.
As for Starfield I'll wait for the Creation Kit and worthwhile updates to jump back in. Meanwhile NMS will scratch my space exploration itch.
Good convo and video topic though. Thanks for the reply.

There are currently 2,000 people playing ME per day, 55 people playing ME3 but 20k still playing Skyrim according to Steam charts. That's almost a million per month still playing modded Skyrim. So no, lots of people aren't still playing ME over and over, but they are playing decade old modded Bethesda games. The game has been out a month, and the modders don't even have the creation kit yet. Not sure what mods you are using, but I'm sure a month isn't enough for the best and fully fleshed mods. Legend of The Dragornborn mod for Skyrim changed the entire storyline and game assets. Starfield will be no different. And again, the modders WANT to fix and add to the game, "they shouldn't have to" is just your opinion. I can tell you've watched a lot of lazy content creators. You have all their talking points. @@sparkzmentalz2 P.S. the game does get good after NG+ th-cam.com/video/NpCcYgMTg3k/w-d-xo.html I've had these epic battles constantly on my planet. @@SistaCitizen My talking points are my actual opinions after spending time with Starfield. I don't need to mimic anyone else's opinions.
2000+ players is still good for a game like ME1 or the Legendary Edition with no Creation Kit like Skyrim.
Yes modders WANT to fix Starfield but we shouldn't have to depend on mods to make the game better. The game should be good right out the gate. Again, Bethesda spent 5+ years and this is what we got? Come on now.
Like I said before I think Starfield will be a different beast a few years from now once the modding community spends time with the Creation Kit.
The ship building and combat is pretty good and there are some interesting quests that offer good food for thought.
Though overall in its current state Starfield is a disappointing Bethesda RPG. The exploration is pretty much null and void compared to Skyrim, Fallout 4, etc.

@@sparkzmentalz2 2000 players a day is not good, and neither is 55. Thats your nostalgia for a space opera talking, which Starfield is not. And people tend to have selective memories on the state of Skyrim and Fallout 4 when they were released. And were described as "boring." Neither of those games hit their peek until a few years out, and after the best mods had been established. And they were both incredibly buggy. "I want it now" seems to be your issue.

If one is evaluating the systems within the game you can say you have to fully experience them to judge them fairly.
That’s true. However if you believe a game is more than the sum of its systems there is room for a valid opinion that does not necessitate 500 hours or more to form.
Starfield is not lacking for time consuming activities, but rather the question is, does the player find those activities worth doing? Are they thematically consistent? Does engaging with them even on a relatively superficial level yield enjoyment? Does the writing, environment or mechanics entice the player to use the systems?
Can I judge all the Starborn powers in depth? No, because even though I endured the repetitive temple cycle to obtain all of them I didn’t use them very much. I simply didn’t find them all that necessary, fun or engaging to want to bother exploring that particular system.
The game never really gave me a reason to do so. There was never any puzzle or problem that required me to use any of the powers to solve. Although they yield a greater degree of creativity and freedom in combat I couldn’t bring myself to play much more beyond a relatively brief foray into NG+.
It isn’t enough to have mountains of content and a wide variety of in depth systems, a game must also draw players into doing them. Judging that particular quality does not require an extreme time investment.
Personally I think the game suffers from entirely too much filler that amounts to tedious grinding, especially in the skill tree.
The game was deliberately designed to be able to be played for hundreds upon hundreds and even thousands of hours. Which is fine, however the tactics used to meet that goal must go beyond, “because I can” at least for me.
You seem to be Bethesdas target audience and I am truly glad you are getting so much satisfaction from it. You are probably also in the minority.

I use my Starborn powers for combat, to traverse the landscape at light speed fully encumbered without worrying about oxygen. I can pull elements straight from the earth, farm resources from animals without killing them and to go invisible during quests. You didn't do that, or even use the powers in a playthrough. @@SistaCitizen "Respectfully, you didn't play the game as intended" so a persons enjoyment of the game or not can't be expressed before you have all the starborn powers? You see how crazy that sounds right?
Saying you have to grind away 500 hours until you have all the powers and skills before you can get to experience and appreciate the TRUE gameplay loop is firstly not respecting the players time and secondly why should a player be expected to have to endure 500 (or even 50 )hours of not having fun before getting to experience enjoyment from the game?
That's likely not what people expected when they handed their $100 over and was never mentioned in the marketing.
A well crafted game, 25 years in the making ect could have just made the games core gameplay loops fun from the start.
Plenty of indie games can do that with 1 developer and a tiny fraction of the budget, why cant a AAA studio with thousands of talented people and Microsoft's backing?
If I gave you a random game that you didn't enjoy and then told you off for saying you don't enjoy it because you need to finish it before you are aloud to form that opinion, then you can see how pretentious that would be for me to say that right?
Also saying that a role playing game in an open world that sells the dream of being able to play a character in any way you like starting with picking from a variety of backgrounds for you to help you role play that out, telling a person they are not playing the game right "as indented" is really missing the point of the game. And again a pretty pretentious thing to tell someone.

If you play this game like checkers instead of like chess, yes you will not like it. But Bethesda games are meant to be played for THOUSANDS of hours. I am STILL discovering things, in space, which is where all the exploration actually is that people keep complaining about is missing. Ship markers with epic battles or strange things, like I stumbled across a floating ship full of cultist who just drank the kool-aid. I get it the game is not for you. You didnt have the patience. And I asked a specific question in the video..."But did you play the whole game though" Most people didn't including you it sounds like. Content creators who command consoled in all the goodies to make content and be the first, did a huge disservice to this game for clicks. Its like eating the bread they bring out in a restaurant, and you dont like it so the whole restaurant sucks. You didnt even have the patience to wait for your full meal. Clearly people still like this game. I hated the first episode of Game of Thrones. Thought is was boring, turned out to be one of my all time favorites. And I cant tell you how tired I am of people who don't like this game, and are mad at it, writing dissertations on why they hate it 4 months later, who clearly have either too much time on their hands, or really do like the game, I mean, why did you even click the video? To be fair I respect your opinion it’s nice to see someone not hating on star field for popularity
In my own personal experience… I play for 15-20 hrs and took over a load of bandit hubs doing the same thing over and over and over…. I had to go back and sell my gear over and over and over again… and I just found it a bit Pointless and boring to be honest.
I thought to myself is this really worth £70-£120 or £12 a month for 6-12 months?
    Is it really worth it?
I think morrowind (back in the day) Oblivion / Skyrim and the fallout games (except 76!) we’re miles ahead of this game.
And they were developed well before Starfield.
When will Bethesda learn though that as gamers were not dumb we’re pretty smart and catch on quick….
Gamers can smell a lie a mile off and in about 2-3 hrs we can determine what a game is going to consist of. There is no fooling us…. 😅
I think Starfield has SOME merit and the graphics are not terrible. I think the cut scenes in and out of ship and landing were deal breakers I know what you are saying about NMS but ….. they integrate that in a seamless way.
Bethesda has a mass of budget higher than NMS though .,..

    I'm mixed on it.
Basically a love/hate thing. And I have a lot of hours in it. Part of it was letting the game sit as I browsed the internet though, but probably 500 Hrs.
I don't believe a lot of gamers can forgive this game for not having atmospheric flight, transitions from space to ground, and no land vehicles.
I've gotten over the flight, but I believe my main issue was trying to play it like Skyrim. Ignore the quests and run out into the wilds and discover stuff. Starfield seems to be the opposite. You focus on the quests, but keep an eye out for other things to do in the locations the quest takes you.
I was surprised by the boring little delivery and shuttle missions. I decided to actually visit the location that I dropped off my passengers. Imagine my surprise to find a robot uprising there and all the other scientists are dead. I destroyed the renegade robots before my passengers finally walked up to the outpost. Also, I wasn't visiting the marked points of interests. I was in discovery mode, thinking I had to find the quest, but the stuff you find are mostly the procedural stuff. I don't like locations being marked for you. I would rather discover them on my own, but I guess Bethedsa is afraid people wouldn't be able to find things and say the game is empty.
I just finished the Crimson Fleet quest line and was about to put the game away to play Cyberpunk 2077, but I am not curious about the all the planets that I see I haven't visited yet. I am going to go check out the points of interests to see if there is anything actually interesting there. I have two major outposts and a bunch of minor outposts pumping our resources and three ships: science/explorations, cargo, and battle cruiser.
What Bethesda needs to do now is make more variations of their generated bases and caves with different enemies, configurations, loot locations, and state of maintenance and decay. They also need to give us more to do with our ships within a solar system. There needs to be more things happening in the game when you are going from point A to point B. And they need to figure out how to get land vehicles in the game. I am not up for all this walking. I would more likely spend more time exploring the ground if I had a Mako or any vehicles like in star Citizen.

After you NG+, you can traverse the landscape fully encumbered without worrying about oxygen in light speed, its actually quite fun to use your powers that way. More exciting and challenging than just driving. Again, the open spaces on planets is for building settlements, and once you do, depending on where you build, you will need to defend and repair your outpost from animal, pirate, and even Starborn attacks. There IS a state of maintenance and decay. My point again about people not playing the game long enough to experience all the mechanics of the game. People are also obsessed with caves. Geez. The story is good and gets better as you progress. I appreciate how Bethesda has been dropping patches to improve upon gameplay and add minor features. @SistaCitizen I built outposts. Set up trade networks on multiple planets. Got my magical powers. Interacted with many npc's gaining poorly written and poorly implemented quests. Watched a loading screen every few minutes. Had many companions but found most of them generic reskin copies of companions from other Bethesda games. The planets are only 4 square kilometers of boring procedural generated areas that quickly start repeating after several hours in. The game code for the cities is poorly written. The gameplay is outdated by about 7 to 8 years. Do you need me to keep going? There's a reason why Todd is considering leaving the company (but i think it would be a good thing, actually). No spoiler but the ending was laughable. The ship building is pathetically limited by your level even though you should be able to buy any part as long as you can afford it. The game is still full of bugs, lacking basic quality of life features that Bethesda will never put the time into it because they always rely on modders to fix the game and add the features/content that actually makes it enjoyable. Hey Sista this was cool to listen too. For a person who has not played this game this is what I want to hear. I need to know the options and variety of things to do. I myself do not like one dimensional games and I myself have alot of imagination so I want to be able to play a game that has things in common as my irl personality has. I like a game thats has realistic options, I want to be able to build and make my ship or house or space station to my personality not just keep the default option. As I watch this game in your live streams its almost movie like. I think the world now days with YT and social media thrive on the negativity of things ppl want drama they don't want a happy endings and that's just my opinion. I read alot of articles on Starfield I see some bad but I see alot of postive ones and I do think this game will have better reviews or likes down the road especially if no other space games of this nature are being released. My only negative is its not on PS. I would rather play a game that would take me yrs to get everything or to complete it. Being a 70s baby I just remember playing the orignal Legend Of Zelda that game was just full of mysterious hidden doors and secrets took forever to beat and I actually never did lol; I missed that. It seems ppl wants games that are realistic now days but you can rush through them. Thats not fun to me. There's so much I could say about Starfield but I'll be Brief. Unlike you I will be going for a NG+10 to be ready for whatever the expansion may be if it releases next year. A good gauge to know if you're going to like this game, is if you enjoyed the mechanics or Fallout 4 and Skyrim, which are mostly improved in this game. Yes, it's an RPG, but Bethesda puts their own spin on things - with a lot of nods to older RPGs (like rewarding time spent in fully exploring dungeons). There's so much to do, especially in the side quests, I am not sure how people can get bored so quickly. But, it's not for everyone.

Like, I love a lot of Bethesda sidequests. I thought pretty much all of Markath for instance had fantastic side quests that were more than just "talk to this person" or "kill that guy" or "buy this thing" or "collect this thing" which is what practically all the quests I've found in Starfield are. Where is the quest in Starfield that is anywhere near as interesting as "The House of Horrors", where an evil god traps you in a house and can end up forcing you to kill, against your own will, by brutally bashing a mace repeatedly on priest of a rival god? The setting of Starfield is far too bland and uninteresting to have anything like that happen.

My favorite side quest were the defending the 3 farmer families from the spacers, the clone quest, the nasa ai quest, and the ancient human ship quest in paradiso. Also scaring people on titan was fun too. After NG+ it will take no time to run between points, even fully encumbered. 1 minute tops for me at NG+ 4. And as far as FO and Skyrim loop, I recall there being nothing but open spaces. You had to go into a city to find the discoveries in the open world, just like Starfield. Maybe the occasional NPC to engage you in a quest along the way, but people act like there was discovery at the end of every road.

@SistaCitizen I'm only NG+1 (level 52)but I put all my points into crafting, speech/bargain,spaceship designer/pilot and some combat perks for safe measure. So maybe just a difference in builds idk. Also I mean yeah your right there was alot of nothing spaces but like you start in sanctuary, you see boston and start to walk towards it then you walk to concord and meet the minute men. Then you walk more might find a shack with a secret lab underneath, get a random encounter, then you fight the raiders at the corvega plant. Then you walk more and meet the brotherhood of steel and help them out. Then once your in Boston you can do the railroad trail or met Cait or help piper. What I'm trying to say is that between point A and B there was stuff to keep you engaged. In starfield there is no in-between A and B unless your in the hand crafted parts of the game.Which is fine. It's all a matter of tastes. You like the outpost building. I don't so the value of the content will differ greatly. Overall the game is good but I think public perception will be better once modders add the in-between content for the random generated stuff or if Bethesda fleshed alot of the stuff out in DLC.

The No Man's Sky style planet exploration is good, but I was hoping for more Bethesda-style exploration; it turns out, those have mutually exclusive elements. To remedy this, they could have concentrated more content into 3-5 planets; for instance, making the New Atlantis and Akila maps feel like a couple holds worth of locations in Skyrim, with actual towns and things to find on foot. Then leave most of the other planets devoid of human activity except for a few marked locations, so they don't become so repetitive.

In using an updated version of the same engine, modders will be able to get mods on console quicker, which is what Bethesda announced. Mods by early next year which is record time. I think that is setting a new standard. And as a side note, my Skrim SE looks as next gen as any other game released today because of mods. Its the reason just as many people pplay Skyrim as RDR2, which is a much newer game. I think everyone has forgotten that Bethesda knows mods have been making their games relevant for over a decade. If I am aware that mod creators are going to have at it with my game, and thats what I want them to do, I am going to make it as easy for them as possible with a basic canvas. And everyone who is a true Bethesda fan who mods their game, which is what most fans do, knows this. There are even mods that change the storyline completely. I’ve played NMS since it came out as well and Starfield scratches every itch NMS couldn’t. I never expected everyone to love Starfield but I am shook on the intense backlash it has gotten…I’m used to people bashing Bethesda games but idk why they expected it not to be a Bethesda game. Sorry if you can’t hang folks, these games are meant to be a sandbox that YOU roleplay, not the next trendy evolution of gaming. I've played for about 60 hours, and have been exposed to all the crafted content this game has to offer. I've been to every system, picked up every "distress call", "walked into" every side quest, and of course, gotten every main/faction quest chucked at me. And what I will say, is that 15 of those 60 hours were not a complete waste of my time and often enjoyable, while the remaining 45 hours of it was, in fact, a complete waste of my time and deliberately crafted to be a waste of my time by Bethesda. It rivals mobile games in terms of disrespecting and wasting the time of its players. And I gotta tell ya, I've heard the "It's got potential!" argument about games, before. Champions Online is one example. Wildstar is another. Nuff said.

    • @SistaCitizen
      @SistaCitizen  9 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

There is no way you did all of that in 60hrs. Its taking that long just to understand the ship building. Anyone who says they have done all there is to do in a Bethesda game in 60hrs is being dishonest, or didn't play the game as intended. Imagine saying you did all there is to do in Skyrim in 60 hrs. "exposed to the crafting content"....did you build outposts with high level manufacturing? Built a fleet of ships by grinding out your outposts and selling? Did you raise animals and create biomes to grow plants? in 60hrs? Impossible. And how do you know you played ALL quests...in 60 hrs....in a Bethesda game. Respectfully, not enough time, but thank you for your thoughts on your 60hrs. I will be giving a review, after I have played the FULL game.

    • @robsolf
      @robsolf 9 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

@@SistaCitizen That's what I meant by, "HAVE BEEN EXPOSED to all the crafted content this game has to offer". I've picked up every sidequest, finished most if not all of them; finished UC and Freestar, am not far into Ryu and Crimson, and am on the 3rd act of the dullest main story in Bethesda history. That's certainly far enough to know that there's nothing left to experience that may change my mind about this game(it's mediocre), and I haven't been able to talk myself into loading it up in weeks. I've spent an hour or two ship building. In itself, it's great, but there's little point in getting into it since ship content barely exists. I spent maybe a half hour on outpost building and that was to mine mats to hand to the bot at the clone colony. That was also a dull experience that had little point in the game so I've not pursued it any further. All that is easily doable in 60 hours, even with BGS's complete lack of respect for my time in these absurd fishbowl runs.

So, you didn't actually play the game. What you described is not playing the game as intended. And your explanation of "exposed" in this game means you didnt do it, mining and delivering the ore is not the crafting and manufacturing, and making high level products. That is what I was talking about, which is fine, but saying it sucks, when you didn't even play it is dishonest. Its not for you, fine. Play another game. @@robsolf And as a side note, the Crimson Fleet quest is the best in the game, and TONS of ship content, from stealing others ships for parts and battles in systems for XP. and you haven't even played it. Great point of view.
What I saw was that there was a whole lot of negative in that initial blast of reviews.
Those who paid for or received early access and needed to make "content" by blasting through the story, maybe a quick faction quest or two and very rudimentary ship building or base building.
Then the trend seems to have changed a bit - from those who have really sunk their teeth into the game.
The intricate ship builds with no ladders/ 1 ladder and calculated doorways, the homages to classic sci-fi ships.
Then from decorated apartments to the massive bases - both hyper-efficient factory and the dream palaces on the water of an idyllic planet.
It really seems to be that those who love the game, love the game.
Me personally - 11 "days" in - level 64. Have not even visited The Eye nor done Sam Coe's mission.
Just having fun doing the Faction quests, side missions and leveling up/grinding for cash (lots of ship stealing) to feed my ship-building addiction.
I've only got a minimal base - mainly for the landing pad/ship builder - but I think you base looks nice and I may dive deeper into that, once I find a nice location with some ocean views and wildlife.
May do a moonbase too - just to have that for a change of scenery.
Of course - need to balance that with actually finishing the story and deciding which NG+ will be my forever home.

One where stuff was happening all the time, just out of view - people just living their lives.
Starfield fulfills that for me. Some people are out there hunting Pirates. Some people are out there being Pirates. There are entrepreneurs making loads of money and some being vagabonds. Expert planet surveyors and couriers.

In a great year for gaming with some excellent releases like Baldur's Gate 3, Alan Wake 2 and TOTK to name a few, there was also the long awaited Starfield.
A game that not only looks and plays outdated but also unsuccessfully tries to hide the bad written story through its scope.
Bethesda chose for the quantity over quality option and it shows in nearly every aspect of the game.
The company has always been praised for its open world exploration and discovery but Starfield is sorely lacking in that area as well.
The game is classified as an RPG but can't be justified as one since every choice you make in the game has little or no consequences at all.
The very poorly inplanted UI, the tons of loading screens, the boring combat and the dialogue of the uninteresting characters and robotic-like NPC's destroys every last bit of immersion.
I could continue writing all the things this game does wrong but I want to focus on a positive aspect: the ship building. This is insanely well done and the results are often very satisfying. But than again, at the end it's all pointless as the ship is mainly used as a fast travel hub.
To conclude: Bethesda needs to reinvent itself, it got stuck in the past and the lack of fresh ideas puts a damper on the company's future.
I am not looking forward for The Elder Scrolls 6, on the contrary I do not mind at all. But I REALLY hope Bethesda proves me wrong.

I know you're a real Bethesda fan like I (used to be) but honestly you can't be blind for all the shortcomings this game has. Even my older sister who's played Beth games for thousands of hours said this game is a struggle particularly when compared to other new releases this year. In 2023 Starfield looks and feels like playing a game of 2010.
Don't get me wrong, I'm convinced that a lot of people have fun with the game and I am really glad for them, on the other hand there are plenty of gamers who've quit the game because it's missing the basic Bethesda quality like open world exploration among other things. Some people claim that Starfield is the Bethesda game with the fewest bugs. Really? This game has more flying objects than a f*cking Harry Potter movie. Lastly, when a company rely on modders to make their game better it means they made a bad game in the first place.
Unfortunately as a true sci fi fan I am deeply dissapointed in Starfield, it could have been so much more but nowadays my quality standards for gaming are much higher than Bethesda has to offer.

    • @SistaCitizen
      @SistaCitizen  8 หลายเดือนก่อน

Again I respectfully disagree. Bethesda is aware that mods keep their games alive for decades. A true Bethesda fan knows this is a canvas for modders, and so do the modders. People swear modders hate fixing games, when in reality, they do it for potentally getting hired by devs. And the good modders make money for their work. People swear modders do it for no reason. And the point of Bethesda games is to customize it the way you want. My Skyrim looks AAA next gen right now which is why millions still play Skyrim 12 years later. Its a winning recipe. I respect your opinion, but just dont play the game. Its not for you at this state, but personally I love the canvas and cant wait for the modders to paint it. If you were a true Bethesda fan you would see it the same way. Cleary even in this thread, true fans love it and see the potential. I still dont understand why people are spending so much time writing dissertations in threads about why they dont like the game. Just dont play it. My last straw with Starfield: having an activity objective be almost 1k meters from Cydonia, but because you can’t ACTUALLY land your craft yourself, my ship could only land at Cydonia so I had to walk for nearly two minutes to that objective because there no such thing as land vehicles in this universe, while experiencing NOTHING interesting. Number one video game development sin: wasting players’ time. The constant load screens, terrible user interface/menus & companions constantly jumping into my line of sight during battle, just ground me down as well. Bought BG3 and THAT game values players’ time. Game of the decade.

I get that people want things right away, but its a Bethesda game, the longer you play, the more you unlock, the more everything comes together....that takes time. Its a Bethesda game. There were some missions in this game that were probably some of the best I’ve seen in Bethesda history. Entangled was one of them. That mission was incredible. But once I finished the main game, I started having way more fun because instead of going to Constellation, I just went off to Neon and started my criminal/scoundrel run. And omg, this has been so much more fun than my first honorable playthrough. I joined a gang, survived the streets of Neon and now I’m off doing corporate espionage that I didn’t do in my first playthrough. Killing and stealing and living and smuggling space goods and people. There were no "surviving" or violent criminal world. They dont even swear. Rujin was ok. What if you would have crimson fleet hideout in every large city ? No too much work. What if you could assign ship crew ? Yes minimum system that can be in space game. how many different temple puzzles ?..1 How many variations of same POIs ?...1

Im curious if you built an intricate outpost system in Starfield. in what way was it an "afterthought" as you built all the modules, manufacturing machines, raising animals, and having your followers and robots you made run them, or repairing them after you have been raided by a gang or roaming pirates, or a Starborn ship full of Starborn lands near it to attack it and you. What you do in an hour is a far more important indication about the quality of a game, than how many hours you put in. When gamers say "You've barely scratched the surface", they're not talking about how much time you put into the game. - because you can do 500hrs of "nothing much at all", easily.
Remembering that games are a pro-active experience, not a reactive exercise. A content creator that spent 22hrs on a garden path, only tells me they took a stroll. - To then review the game badly and I'm like, "O'rly, ya don't say" 😃

@@SistaCitizen I'm certainly not that kind of player, Im more than happy to work for character progression but it needs to be fun doing so. The game fails to allow any sort of real choice. Pick any dialouge option and you'll get the same ending. This game has the most on rails story to date and has the most npc flagged as crucial of any of their games further limiting player choice. The procedural generation is uninspired and boring. You'll get the same couple of points of interest on any given planet copy and pasted across all of them so the only reason to explore is to collect resources for a crafting and settlement system that feels tacked on and basically pointless. And don't get me started on the guns. You're basically stuck between ballistic guns or three variants of an energy gun and melee is even worse. Every melee weapon has the exact same attack speed thus rendering any sort of unique melee build being possible. You just get more damage and zero strategy. The sci-fi element of this game is utterly unimaginative. How is our future so low tech when we have grav drives? Where's the advanced AI, or robotics that at least look better than what Boston Dynamics is currently doing. They have legit built robots as advanced as Vosco now. It is a story-based RPG so having a bad/meh story is actually important. Skyrim was boring but doable. My issue w/ Starfield is the laziness with the exploration. In Skyrim/Fallout you could just walk around and find stuff that was interesting, but Starfield only has fast travel and doesn’t let you just walk. When it does, it is almost always boring and empty planets. My favorite part of Starfield was the ship builder, and like you, I have spent SO much time (30hours +) just doing that. Its a pain you cant see the interior of the ships before committing to a design, or that you can’t swap parts from one ship to another. Starfield did reignite my love and passion for Mass Effect though and it amazes me how much better (in certain aspects, not all) ME was. Not having vehicles to explore cripples Starfields boring world exploration; even though ME is also boring to explore, there are unique things to discover and the Mako helps speed up exploration. Exploring only on foot w/ a jet pack was a TERRIBLE decision. I very much liked your video however; will subscribe!

The vehicle in ME was meant to take you to the next enemy base, and if I recall correctly, the bases were full of the same enemies. There was no real "discovery." What ME had going for it is the story. I also outlined what the empty planets in Starfield are for. Real question: What is the goal of your exploration? Meaning, if you find a random creature lets say, what do you want to do, get with that information? In Starfield, the purpose is to build, and turn it into long term money, which is what all Bethesda games are, for long term play. And if you play long enough, with NG plus powers, and boost pack upgrades, you can clear long distances in no time, fully encumbered. Did you level up to that? Respectfully asking.

@@SistaCitizen Mass Effect actually had interesting characters you gave a shit about, and I dare say the combat in ME2 (a game that came out in 2010) is better than starfield. Also a sci-fi game not having any Alien races is weak.

I think the conversation about Starfield will be dramatically different in 6 months. I love the base game. But the way I look at Starfield is it's really ripe for modders to go nuts with it. The landing points systems means that there are almost countless spots for modders to create hand crafted content. Imagine, for example, being able to pick a custom landing point that lands you next to a biodome that has New Vegas city contained within. I'm very much looking forward to the creation kit dropping in early 2024.

Then Skyrim is garbage too. That game was boring to me until I modded it. Same with FO. In fact a lot of people felt that way when those games were released. The only reason millions still play Skyrim, or any Bethesda game is because of the mods. What's your point? @@CaliforniaSolder

If you want to withhold a conclusive opinion on a product that demands probably 1,000 or more hours of your life to 100%, that's perfectly fine.
But judging it after 5, 10, 25, 50, 100 hours is also fine. If I look at the Mona Lisa for ten minutes and it doesn't do anything for me, where's the sense in spending another 30 minutes trying to find the subtle places it "gets good?"
Starfield's flaws are readily apparent and do not disappear after 500 hours. If you can't get over them in 10 hours, there's no reason to believe you will after 50 hours, and there should be no gatekeeping in creating critical content by locking it off until you play x amount of hours.
If that content creator didn't put in enough time for their opinion to move you, that's cool too.

Its not just a "product" its a Bethesda game, which is intended to be played for hundreds if not thousands of hrs to experience everything. A content creator who makes a "full review" even after 100 isnt experiencing the game. Ive almost spent that learning the ship building. So I disagree with your product analogy. But thank you for your comment.

@@SistaCitizenbad argument. If they aren’t experiencing the game, at 10, 20, 50, 100 hours then what are they doing? Are they not playing the game? How is it that other games manage to pull players in the universe without having to make them wait over 100 hours to actually start having fun? There’s no way that’s a real argument you’re using. There’s no point in releasing a game that doesn’t allow the player to have fun unless they spend hundreds of hours. The only thing you keep mentioning is shipbuilding. Shipbuilding isn’t the only thing in the game. There’s a reason this game didn’t win a single award. There’s a reason the reviews are mostly negative. It’s not a good game.

My take on it is if you’re a Bethesda fan through and through, meaning you’ve played the Elder Scrolls & Fallout titles, Starfield will feel just like home with a bunch of new features added. Most people who play Bethesda games know what they’re getting with Starfield. I have over 250 hours and still have a lot of quests I haven’t done yet. I can’t wait for the creation kit to come out, that’s where this game will take off (literally and figuratively)

Not really, sure, Starfield has a lot of the features from FO or TES, but dumbed down, made worse, like theres now only a couple pieces of armor wich and fewer weapons, wich makes looting less rewarding, the perks syste is horrible, the exploration sucks, base building somehow is more pointless than in FO4, space combat is just a damage sponge simulator, it just boils down to numbers, theres 0 strategy just mind numbing clicking, while ship building is cool and maybe the only good feature, having a ship is almost pointless, the cities are few and so poorly designed, they are so big and yet have so little content or appeal, Cowboy city in space? Really? is that the only thing they could come up with? Neon city? Its like they are on creative banckrupcy, combat was made worse too, no gore, and it was reduced to a fps dynamic with bullet sponge enemies with cheese for a brain. Your only concern during battles is running out of ammo since AI is brain dead. I could go on and on but ill leave it at this: Starfield is one of the worst games developed this year, just above Gollum and that king kong BS.
