This fixed my 2014 Audi TT with 207k miles. P2188 and P2177 codes, the later having turned on the MIL light. Started cold, but had starting issues after driving and when left one hour off when engine was still warm. After quickly replacing the HPFP with my brother (engine is transversely mounted so was easier to get at the pump), all is well. Great video!
Wouldn't be easier to start hp fuel pump lower fitting before tightening hp fuel pump to the cyl head ? It's kinda the same on toyotas find out that this method works nicely. Love the channel btw.
please I need help !! my car does not work quietly at the first ignition !! the exhaust stinks of unburned gasoline. error reported by p2188 system too rich at idle bank. the oil level in the engine has increased slightly and stinks of gasoline. the car is a3 1.4 tfsi
how does one test a hpfp ? I have a issue with my Audi 2l tfsi , no error codes. using a topton scan tool , I think its fuel because when it cranks the fuel rail pressure go up to over 80bar then as soon as the car starts the fuel rail pressure drops to 30bar and then the engine stalls (using the scan tool to monitor).
Another great video! Thanks! I have a problem with my 2014 Q5 2.0T. Bad misfire on #2 & #4. I replaced the injectors and did the carbon cleaning in the intake and valves. While soaking I noticed one of the valves on the cylinder 4 didn't hold the carb cleaner liquid as well as the others. After putting it all back together, the cylinder 2 code went away. Now, I have P0304, P0300 and P130A. I replaced the PCV unit and still no change. Car runs shaky in limp mode. It drives but no full power. When I first start it, the CEL flashes then EPC light turns on. I am starting to think it maybe burnt/bent valve on cylinder 4. Do you think I should replace the HPFP too?
I have a 2011 A4. The car used to run and run very rough. I have codes for multiple cylinder misfire. And the car stopped running. Just cranks and won't run. Would it be the HPFP?? Please help. Thanks
@@christopherlaw2460 no it wasn't. The timing was jumped. Best way is to run a compression test on all cylinders. If they are all below 150 psi your timing is out. Hope this helps
I have P218800 and P030200 error codes.... i have the same car that when engine temperature is hot it refuses to start ..so i have to try for 5-6 times to start the engine ...but when engine temperature is cold it start perfect ..i have noticed that my car now consume more fuel and acceleration is not the same ,now is slower ....any idea what can be the problem?

Get a vim stubby triple square kit 1/4 drive most people will have the rest or just a 10mm triple square socket or some use 6mm hex on the hpfp but it’s rare. T30 17mm open end wrench pliers that’s all I can think of
I have a 2014 Audi A5 2.0 turbo. It was running great I shut the engine off came out started the car it had a rough idle rpm up and down. I turned the engine off and it hasn’t cranked since. It will start but not crank. I got a p2188, a p2539, p2293. So my guest in is should I change the hpfp or the low pressure fuel sensor? I have taken the hpfp off and the cam follower looks great and I pulled the line off the bottom of the hpfp and I’m getting fuel out of the bottom when the car is turned over. Any help I would appreciate.
James Bates start with the hpfp then do the high pressure fuel sensor on the fuel rail under the #2 intake runner. I didn’t even look up your codes but this is the order since the hpfp has a much higher failure rate

The hpfp didn’t fix the problem. So I turned my attention to the pump in the tank. I took the fuel line coming out of the pump to the engine off and then attached a rubber hose to the pump and dropped it in a clear bottle and the fuel barely comes out like it trickles out when I turn the engine over. I dint have gauges so I’m trying these method. Do you know what the lift pressure should be? I mean it like barely comes out when I turn the engine over. I’m thinking about changing the pump. What are yo ur thoughts? Any help I would appreciate. Thank you.

I got code p0100 first on my vw gti and then after fixing (putting a new mass flow sensor) I am getting this code p2188. Any help if they both are related?
If you haven’t done a timing chain yet think about that but you would usually get a rail pressure too high fault from that. I haven’t seen an actual bad maf on the newer audis yet, I often have even swapped “bad” parts on one of my good cars to verify what’s going on and haven’t seen a maf go bad yet. Always the hpfp and when that fails gas washes the oil out and causes a rich fuel mixture and bad oil. Always important to smell the oil when any fuel / rich code happens with Audi high pressure fuel systems.
Having same code p2188. Had a #1 and random misfire code yesterday. Had her shut it off and let sit, after a couple of minutes it would not restart. I went back to get it a couple of hours later and it started after a couple of tries ( like was run out of fuel) ran kind of rough. Will this cause rough/hard starting?

Hi. I also have a 2001 AUDI A5 2.0 TFSI with the same error. P2178 and P2188. It starts hard, that is, I turn on the ignition, it starts, reaches a speed of 1200rpm and stops. Or it start on but it's very unstable and I need to keep it accelerated to 2000-2500rpm until it warms up. And it smells like gasoline. But it also causes problems when I have to idle a lot at traffic lights. If it stays longer at about 1000-1100rpm when I accelerate, hesitate and stop. You think it's the same problem, the high pressure pump or it could be a faulty injector. I had misfire the cylinder 1 often
so that took well below 1/2 hour! My 2015 Q5 2.0. I have misfires on cylinder 1 &3 at high speed (not necessarily at high RPM, but both speed and rpm - around 73-78 mph). Plus codes P218800 and P12500 (low Fuel level ), Local Audi expert says I need to change coils and spark plugs, and gas cap. The car has 99,600 miles. So I guess I should do it anyhow (doesn't look like the previous owners did that at 35,000 miles) since they are getting up in there....but I think it might not solve the misfires unless the fuel pump is replaced, like you did?
You could wait until enough oil mixes with the gas until it wipes out your bearings, you could send the oil sample out to the lab to see if it’s diluted and wait about 3 weeks to get it back. Or you could just trust me that the hpfp’s are prone to failure and if you have a rich fault replace it first. Usually you can take the pump out and smell the gas the strongest on the spring / end of the pump

Plus I have poor gas milage (I think) I haven’t used the MPG monitoring system to check lately but I don’t think I should be getting about 59ish miles from full to 3/4, basically a quarter to full on the 2.0L. I found one HPFP from Motor Parts and another from Culmkari. Are you familiar with these brands, whether they’re good or nah, both go for about $65🤔 with a 3 year warranty.

Good morning Naptown Tuner. For the HPFP replacement, is it necessary to disconnect the battery first?
would you recommend sticking with OEM replacement, cheaper aftermarket, or upgrading the internals with APR, CTS, etc.?
Oem dont buy them from the dealer tho they asked 700 for the pump and from ecs tuning it was 400
Always Try OEM but if cost is too much, buy aftermarket one that’s as close to OEM price and look at the reviews

What about a vw with a plain jane 2.0 engine. I get too rich at bank 1 at idle.
Great vid but one recommendation dont use oil extractor loosen drain plug to insure all oil is out and all crud is out of there

You ran the low presure fuel hose over the ignition wires. At 2:08 (original) it's oposite.

If fuel is leaking into the oil with a bad hpfp it needs replaced immediately along with an oil change

If the pump is still working, couldn't you just replace the o-ring? A new OEM pump is expensive.

Would the P2188 code only be the HPFP?
If you haven’t changed it yet it’s the most likely culprit and if you have oil mixing with your gas you need to get it fixed quickly.
