when the vid said sea trial i assumed there would be some sort of commentary , not just watching pictures of her bobbing around on the water ,

Big sailboats require a crew. Big modern motor yachts don’t! I would love to live aboard a modern yacht but not with a stranger. I would hire a full time captain that I could call for certain cruises and maintenance but supply him/her with off campus accommodations!

I don't understand the appeal of a boat like this. What happens when the engine dies in heavy seas? I've always been curious about the type of person who would feel more comfortable without sails in an emergency. I would never trust my life to a motor boat. No matter how luxurious it was.

That is because you have a lot to learn about boating.

Seriously? An experienced sailor who knows how to sail a boat has more to learn than a guy who basically sits on his ass and steers a wheel like he's driving a motor home? Let's put two boats in a heaving seas: one with a dead motor and NO sails and one with a dead motor and working sails. Let's see who makes it home alive.

Castaway Sir, my first trip on a sailboat was at age 3mo. I been on sailboats all my life as well as trawlers, etc. Most 'boats' as you call it, has 2 engines so it one does go out, they have the other one to get home on. Emergency don't happen that often and I love both types of boats. But when you get older, it is nice to sit with your coffee and let the auto pilot gets you where you're going in a straight line. Have a nice day.

You can use auto pilot on a sail boat with twin motors. The point is it's crazy to go out to sea on a glorified fishing trawler. And if you have the right conditions both engines can flood and go out at the same time.

Castaway This can go on forever. I been at sea, between Catalina and Long Beach and we witness a sailboat sinking. Others were there to remove the people. We never fond out why, but all boats can sink. This is getting silly. Have a nice day and be save on the water. By the way, I also hold a Captain Lic. as well as a pilot licenses for decades, so I do know a little about both.
