    In 2017, Pacific Asian Enterprises (PAE) expanded their Nordhavn line with the addition of the Nordhavn 96. Being well received by the exploration yacht community, the Nordhavn 96 won the 2017 International Yacht and Aviation Award. Lacey Kay was the third in this line, just after the launching of Vivierae II. This new design bridged the gap between the large cruising exploration yacht and super-yacht categories. She was designed for the yachting enthusiast who seeks the super-yacht comfort and style in a boat that is still able to be managed with no or minimal crew, and travel big open oceans.
    The 96 series is based on the hull of the very successful Nordhavn 86, while incorporating a larger cockpit, lazarette, and better crew space below deck. The greater volume is also felt on the main deck level, in the dining and galley areas, and on the pilothouse deck with a large upper master stateroom. The greater length also allows for a more spacious fly bridge with hot tub.
    Lacey Kay was built by her current owner, making frequent trips to the yard during the build process. He opted for the additional fuel tanks, giving her an aggregate capacity of 9,575 gallons. With her increased waterline hull length, her fuel burn was actually slightly reduced from the 86. At her most efficient cruise speed of 9 knots, she burns about 10 gallons per hour per side, plus 5 gallons for the house generator, giving her an approximate 4,000 NM range; well enough for a Pacific crossing. According to Jeff Leishman, PAE's Chief of Design, extending her hull length has allowed Nordhavn to enhance the performance of, and increase stability and comfort in this well-proven hull design.

    If I was going to take my precious family on a transatlantic cruise from Miami to Nice, this is the boat we would be on. Safe, bulletproof and luxurious. There are some below criticizing its utilitarian looks. I don't know how much more pampered you could be sitting in the salon or waking up in your bridge deck master to a cup of coffee outside watching the scenery disappearing behind you. This boat is flawless.

      I agree, and if you don't like the decor and could afford this boat, then change the decor. For me this boat is near perfect.

    • @growlkitty
      @growlkitty ปีที่แล้ว

      I agree... great range, reliable, relatively low maintenance... but it's ugly. These are the ugliest yachts on the market! It's like they make them ugly on purpose or something? Why can't they make it like the Benetti B.Yond 37?! The B.Yond 37 by Benetti is everything this vessel is except it's easy on the eyes! This thing looks like a tug boat.

    • @grondhero
      @grondhero ปีที่แล้ว +4

      @@growlkitty What's ugly to you looks good to someone else. The fact that you're close-minded about that speaks volumes about you. The Benetti 37 is 25' longer and 2x the cost, so it isn't everything this yacht is.

    • @growlkitty
      @growlkitty ปีที่แล้ว

      @@grondhero Voicing my "opinion" doesn't make me close-minded! It's your "opinion" that I am close-minded because I don't share "your" opinion, but it's not by any means a fact. This boat is a Ford Explorer and Benetti's b.yond is a Bentley Bentyaga; I can go get a Ford Explorer right now but I'm not going to. When I can afford to get a Bentley Bentyaga, then I will by an SUV. In fact, I could possibly buy this boat right now, but I wouldn't even if I could; I will wait until I can afford a Benetti. It's a matter of taste and preferences, not a revelation of the state of my mind?! I wholly agree with you that this vessel is practical, economical, reliable, and more than sea-worthy, but it's not pretty, like a Ford Explorer; nobody looks twice at an Explorer!

    As someone that grew up working on 'wedding cake' yachts, a Nordhavn was the first yacht that made me love trawler style yachts. I remember seeing a 62' back in the day and someone had asked the owner where he was coming from and he said 'Well we were checking out the whales in Norway in the North Sea'. Here I was on a yacht twice that size amd we had just taken it across the Atlantic but it was miserable. I was amazed this guy took his wife and 2 grandkids plus their mom into the North Sea by Norway on a 62' boat. Tough as nails. I have loved these and Flemings ever since. If you love Nordhavn you've likely seen James Knight of Yacht Tech tell you the good, bad and ugly on them so for this owner to hire a survey in advance says something. But this yacht has gone places. Galapagos, Carribean, Mexico, Panama, Alaska. She's been everywhere. This isn't some fast Heesen, Pershing or Mangusta. These are slow moving tanks that will ensure when you get where you are going, you had enough fuel, food, water and if wanted it, a great time and relaxing sleep. This isn't some 38' sailboat you are roasting on everyday because you don't have AC, as you heat water with your engines to take a hot shower and also heat up your 13th can of soup that week either. They aren't the cheapest way to get there, but they are one of the nicest and more affordable options for true passagemakers just like that 38' sweatbox. Nothing against sailors, but sometimes their sacrifices to weight don't appeal to me at all.

      Right on Clif! We love em' too! Thanks for sharing :)

      @mesflyer 11 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      LOL. You talk as if most sailors have $10M+ laying around but choose a used 36' sloop to see the world. People make choices within their means. I've heard an equally arrogant statement from an UHNW about how they seriously don't understand why anyone would want to waste breath on a boat less than 150 meters. Our the same folks at a loss about why anyone would fly commercial ( or on a small learjet) rather than a G650.
      I contrast your comment with the owners of MY Egret that freely admit Nordhavns are nice but say if you don't have Nordhavn money buy a sailboat because they see the exact same places at a slower pace and less cost.

      Lacey Kay (not just any N96) is the ultimate explorer motor yacht, the smallest and the cheapest one which still has enough range and equipment to safely cross Panama to French Polynesia (the hardest leg in circumnavigation) any season with storm fuel reserve.
      The only problem is the. owner knows it and for her asking price you can build the same one new. So it I ever can afford it I’ll just go to Nordhavn and tell them “Build me Lacey Kay. Copy all layouts, fuel tanks and the equipment. They’re perfect” :)

      For that sort of money you are gunna be hard prest to get a boat that has the facilities this has there are no short cuts taken this boat has the best of everything from the appliances in the galley to the state of the art cat engines and gen sets which by the way has 3 and not to mention the electronics package on this thing and thats just getting started if you have a couple of spare days you might learn a bit more. But as for the price tag you will be looking for a long time to get something to compete with this at that price. This will be sold in no time good luck to the owner and to denison love watching your material.

    Sorry you’re asking $10 million for a fiberglass boat with a 30 year life expectancy. If it was steel or aluminum maybe but you would have to be stupid to pay $10 million for a fiberglass boat

      I think these yacht builders are thinking, long-term. steel and aluminum boats last forever. Fiberglass boats last 30 years. If they only make fiberglass boats, they are protecting the market for their grand children

    A beautiful boat, however, I find it amusing that in an effort to squeeze as much money as possible out of any buyer, you make the claim that it has 2 masters. In the real world the first one you presented is officially a VIP. But I guess you don't equate wealth with intelligence. If this aspect fools them, I have a beautiful bridge in San Fransisco I will sell them for pennies on the dollar.
