The best staging of this finale I've seen. The final look before the curtain descends is electrifying, which only Damrau could pull off. The two sides of the stage -- light - dark sun - moon male - female gold - silver -- it's an entire cosmology.
in the end it's up to the director's interpretation and if he decides that the queen does not die-well, let him. I truly like the idea of-call me romantic-the two forces of night and day as an equilibrium (yin and yang... sort of) ... sorry have I gone too far now?
What's incredible is not only that she sung with laryngitis. I'm amazed at how she had the guts to wear that dress and keep on behaving as die Königin lol
You're absolutely right... In fact, the Queen is supposed to die in the end, but as it is an "adaptation for children" (ahem) they thought it wouldn't be appropriate, so they let her stay there for a little longer lol I can't understand what the picture means either. It's got nothing to do with the opera, and it is not even aesthetic... lol My violin teacher knows Muti. I think I'll have a word with him... lol
Yeah she wants the "Kingdom of Light" but she wants to attain it through her quest of power, greed, and she already controls her people through fear. All of these things aren't exactly the best things to have if you're the ruler of many people.
I'm glad about that ^^ I can't believe she had laringitis! She still sings like an angel, although she sounds much more weak than in the Covent Garden. I don't like the costume either... At least the black dress is acceptable lol
I honestly have no idea. Maybe they just sink into the lower parts of the stage, you know? and it would be just a direction for them to leave the stage which looks cool on stage. but how many directors honestly pay much attention to the original directions?
Well, the second green dress could be better, but it's not as terrible as the one in the O Zittre Nicht... Her acting is as great as always. Actually, I think she's absolutely perfect. What else do I need to say? lol
Veeeery true... lol Anyway, she's played Gilda characterised as "Princess Leia" from Star Wars, all placed in a "Planet of the Apes" world... No comments... LOL
You must forgive me. I've just started to learn German... But that was close enough, wasn't it? lol It's true that die Drei Damen kind of go to Hell before in the "Wie, wie, wie?", but who said librettos were logical? lol In my opinion, what annoys die Königin is not to be in the Night but to be forced to it. She wants the "Kingdom of Light" (however you may call it lol), but Sarastro wouldn't let her. It would piss me off too. Anyway, where would you "versink" if not to Hell? lol
Damrau is a goddess, Pape is fierce (well, better as Sprecher imho)... now what is up with Manastatos's vibrato at the beginning? ouch! And why is this always the opera that directors/designers think they can go nuts with? lol
well, more like "we are thrown into eternal night". doesn't matter now. she is the queen of the night and night probably doesn't harm her very much. lol and it just says "sie versinken" and not where to. and furthermore die Drei Damen are supposed to go into hell ealier on, and somehow they return. "hinab mit den weibern zur hölle" or what do you think?
Well, it's not because of that. It's more because of the "Wir alle gestürzt in ewige Nacht!", meaning "We sink into eternal Night" lol It is specified in the libretto the they (die Königin und die Drei Damen) go literally straight to Hell... She's supposed to die as she is the "bad girl". Kind of "I melt under the Sun! Alas!" LOL
so schön....so schön.... 🥰

René Pape je vous adore....
Yes, that's true, I absolutely adore her and admire her strength to sing so beautifully even when she was sick.
Wunderschön
Das ist Mozart....
so right
the master aged 35
if only he had lived longer
Diana Damrau perfect as usual...

but her acting is as powerful as always ... i really like the black one...it looks great and i also like the green one during "der hölle rache"

yeah!i loved it..so much better than that new york production this winter

Well, "zernichtet ist unsere macht" means "our power is destroyed" but not neccessarily that she is dying, right?
She survived there is a sequel called
Zauberflöte zweyter Theil

Granted, but that was not the worst dress she had worn that night for sure ;)
Veeeery true... lol Anyway, she's played Gilda characterised as "Princess Leia" from Star Wars, all placed in a "Planet of the Apes" world... No comments... LOL
Not at all... lol I'm just glad Diana stays there for a little longer. She certainly improves everything she's near to. Don't you feel the same? lol
