Watching the performers actually hammer on the anvils makes this such a dramatic performance. I love the cadence of the arms swinging the hammer over and over again!
Particularly with the hot shirtless guy! (I know, I'm shallow. What can I say?)
A novice conductor asked Toscanini for advice on the tempo for the Anvil Chorus. Toscanini told him, "Listen to the women as they do their laundry by the river. They get it right every time."
At last! A Version that does the music justice. Big anvils with big hammers hitting them.
No, if they used a large Austrian anvil, it would have been amazing. The ring is absolutely insane! This had no ring.
@@Volundur9567 I meant the symbolism, not the acoustics.
But surely it's meant to sound industrial,
very industrial
My high school choir recently did this. I love it so much!
I did too, but in 5th grade
Like how all the characters seem fleshed out and real.
The soprano you liked is actually mezzo-soprano Dolora Zajick. She undoubtedly owns the role since her first performance at the Met almost 30 years ago, imagine, opposite Luciano Pavarotti and Sherrill Milnes!
Yeah, but her diction is awful.
You do realize that cartoons KEPT this MUSIC ALIVE back in the day !!! I NEED to see THIS LIVE !!! I NEED to HEAR AND SEE THOSE SLEDGE HAMMERS STRIKE IN TIME !!! O.M.D. !!! THE "CHILLS"
amazing! that soloist has my head spinning!
Verdi is arguably my favorite composer in terms of catchy choruses
The series this performance is from is called "The Met live in HD"
This video itself is not HD, but that's because you're watching it on youtube and not an official showing in a theater. I've been to Met Live showings and they're absolutely incredible.
I don't have the money to go to these kind of things
Long live the Met!! Brilliant scenery and staging
Let the anvils ring!
No lie,the brief segment in D2: The Might Ducks brought me here. This has become one of my favoruite pieces of music!!!!!
Absolutely brilliant &beautiful.
Out of this world performance.
really amazing performance!!
Thanks for posting this...the whole performance was entrancing.
I watched this last night, and this part was stuck in my head.
FANTASTIC ! BIG, BIG, BIG THANKS ! WITH A LOT OF LOVE FROM BULGARIA - SOFIA
Came here after watching A Night at the Opera, Marx Brothers. This version is great! (Even without Harpo scurrying up the curtain)
Bravo! outstanding performance.
This is PERFECT!
This is one of my favorite operas!
I remeber playing this on the recorder in 2014 for my school mini band concert. I was only 10
With anvils, and hammers!
It's nice to finally have an English translation to this song; I don't think I ever was curious about it until now because the song itself is epic enough as it its on its own.
When your major is opera music, but you take metallurgy as an elective.
Simplemente adoro la opera
As somebody who has been with the Opera, I can tell you, it must be painful to lean against the chest of a singer performing an aria :D
Night at the opera
Revolver
This was part of my trumpet exam
If you listen real close, you will hear the bare bones of "Hail, the Gangs All Here"
this is so cool
WOW !
I like it
Brilliant, Genuine, a cult performance🎉
I had the honor of meeting her once in person, she’s impressive
not going to lie I only knew of the anvil chorus from tiny toons and the muppets. not diappointed
This is awesome.
I saw this production at the MET in January and I LOVED IT!
Somewhere Bad Santa is hammering a mall safe...
Using anvils as instruments is unironically metal as hell.
I seem to rember this being used in a tv ad but I cant think of the name or what it was used for
all this is nice and all but i have one question...
who came here after hearing this in Sark's worms post?
We work hard digging our tunnels
Lol did not expect to see this comment here.
Chico? Are you in there?
I haven't the faintest idea what you're talking about!

Me too.

Hollywood 24 off of I-85, tonight at 7:00: Il Trovatore Met Summer Encore.
And the HD?
Was that downstage trip & fall @1:52 an accident, or intentional?
After seeing the GMCLA performance I can't be disappointed by the lack of actual metal CLANGS from real men hitting a real anvil with hammers.
1:09 I played that part to ignore ms Pitts to get a picture with the Brennan cheerleaders 📣 ms Pitts did not like that so I told her it’s over ms Pitts and 1:17 but I had to do it for my good friend his name is Billy 7:20
"In HD" ...... 360p
I have heard and seen many Azucenas but Zajick remains at the top.
Amazing that there was a production once that eliminated the role (not by choice).
Too bad there were no flames apparent on the stage, as flames would have looked great, even artificial flames. 3:08
Somebody can understand any word of stride la vampa by Dolora (Azucena), because i can't!, what a bad diction, but beautiful voice!
She's a gypsy who has never been to school. They should have let her sing in gypsy creole. . . .
What's this singer's name
Vittorio Emanuele Ré D' Italia verdi

Stupid, stupid question... what language is this in?
Italian
Thank you, I had thought Latin.. . It's amazingly beautiful, I'm considering learning it.
Meh, it's okay but that's it.. the sound of wood anvils being hammered on doesn't cut it..
Yup. Should have used a huge Austrian anvil. They ring like crazy! And harmonically so! There is a video of a guy using one and not quieting the ring.
anyone else expected an anvil to fall from the sky and knock someone out?
very wonderful voice from the Soprano soloist but her Diction makes it hard for me to hear what she says.
+lindokuhle msimago Her Italian diction (I speak Italian fluently) is just simply impossible to understand.
Cordelia deGraaf
Wow, I was in a school choir in high school and got familiar with Italian although I do not know it but When she sang I was lost completely.
I thought it is my weak italian skills.
She's actually a mezzo soprano.
The Opera isn't over until the Fat Lady sings.
POOR DOLORA ZAJICK, THE TREMOLO DOES NOT ALLOW ONE TO FIND THE CORRECT PITCH. ALSO, WERE THE ANVILS MADE OF WOOD? REAL ANVILS "RING"!
Isn’t ‘Il Trovatore’ that Verdi opera about a Russian supercomputer which can predict the future, but its really a man, well, actually two men, behind it who... oh wait, thst’s ‘Il Due Foscari’, I think, never mind
yeah that's the plot
The in and have and will go to go out to go and I hope you you are my account please need you been to the new house and have a
