- Today we are going back to basics and making a very simple but elegant box. Will do rabbet joints and a simple easy to make rabbet lid. This is an easy project you could do for cheap and it only take about 15-20 minutes. For the finish I will be using one of my favorite wood finishes, Oddies oil. #woodworking #woodworkingprojects #woodenbox

Good job..
Great job, Skyler.
Ideas flow into my mind.
Awesome! Thank you!
End grain doesn't have as much strength as face grain, but with the small size of the box it shouldn't pose any problems. The method of holding your small pieces in place by using small pieces of wood with double stick tape is really a great tip and I'll use it the next time I'm trying to sand or plane. Thanks for sharing!
Great timing-the same box arrived just today. You gave me a new simple project this weekend.
I have to worn you! Sending those sense woods is a pain!
Hope you got some good pieces
@@woodworkingwithSkylerHi Skyler, most of the pieces were good, dense hardwood S4S; a couple pieces had cracks in them. Not too bad.
I never thought of an end grain box. Very clever. I like your design, it's simple and looks good!! I have lots of cut-off pieces that I can use for end grain boxes. Time to rummage through the scrap pile. Keep up the good work.
Glad it was helpful!
It’s gorgeous Skyler. You’re inspiring.
Thank you so much!
Beautiful Skyler, a true craftswoman
:) Thank you so much
Love it! Great idea. Thank you for sharing. Looks beautiful.
You are so welcome!
Nice project. Thanks for sharing.
Thank YOU
Fantastic as ever Skyler! You are inspiring to those of us learning the art of woodworking! Thank you for the video :)
My pleasure!
Definitely a nice looking box- I’ve never seen an end grain box before and yours has given me some ideas for some offcuts I’ve been holding on too. Also, this is the first video of yours I’ve watched and have subscribed. I’m looking forward to watching your previous videos.
Awesome! Thank you! I never saw an end grain box either. I don’t know why, it’s such an easy way to make it a bit more interesting
That turned out beautiful Skyler! 👌I have some small pieces like that but didn’t think of making a small box like you did! 👍🏻Thank you for sharing and the idea!
Thank you! 😊 and you are very welcome
All your videos are great! Thanks for your efforts that add to my woodworking inspiration!! Always great!
Thank you so much Keith! So glad you like them and thank you for watching
Very nice. End grain was a good idea.
Thanks 👍
Very nice. I ordered one of your boxes of lumber and I’m very pleased.
So glad to hear that! Did you get a lot of Purple Heart as well?
You're right about the shooting board, it looks way too expensive for what it does and, yeah, the box is cute.
Thank you. I love and use my shooting board, but don’t use enough . With that money I should of bought a jointer! Much more useful
* should have 😉
That’s a really great design. You have a wonderful talent showing all of us cool stuff that we can do with limited knowledge and experience. Thanks again for a great video.
Thank you Bob.
Very beautiful box, interesting variation on the "standard" boxes you usually see.
You are an excellent woodworker. Truly enjoy watching you work.
While yes, the lee valley shooting jig is more expensive than it is worth, but it is still nice. Sometimes you just want to splurge and get something nice.
Thank you John. I love the shooting board and use it often ( not often enough). It’s very good quality but … definitely a splurge
@@woodworkingwithSkyler Life is too short to use ugly tools :)
Laziness gives it character. 😋😋

I had surgery on both of my hands for carpal tunnel about a month ago. Hands still a little sore especially when sanding
@@woodworkingwithSkylerI had surgery for carpal tunnel on my right hand. About 3 weeks ago. In about 2 months my left hand is going to have the same procedure. So I know what kind of pain your dealing with. People don't know what kind of pain that really is? Anyways thanks for letting us know. I now feel like I'm not alone! I hope you get to feeling better!
@@wesleyslemp4 hi Wesley! Thank you so much. Had the surgery both hands at same time. First week of recovery was pretty tough. Now I am all good but still can’t sand very well, don’t have much grip strength and hand get tired fast. Wish you a speedy recovery!
@@woodworkingwithSkyler oh wow! The doctor wouldn't do surgery in both of my hands! I wish that he would have. But he told me that I needed one hand to use. So that is his answer. But it is painful! I dread the second surgery! Thanks for the support. And positive encouraging words! I hope you soon recover as well!
Thank you. A few days ago I read that a bow pen (a drafting tool) could be used to apply glue to a wood joint in a very controlled way. I have not tried this yet, as I'm packing for a move. So I can't tell you that this works or not, thought I'd pass it on. Bow pen is very cheap.
I will have to give it a try. Thanks
Hi Skyler, Thank you for all your informative video’s. Question, in your end grain box video, what is the planning tool you are using to shave the top and bottom pieces @12:20 in the video? I’ve never seen one of those before.
That is a shooting board from veritas
Great project, thanks! Is that a Shaper Origin Router (in white box with green hasp) on the left at 3:00 ?
unfortunately no. Festool sanders and domino
Thanks for sharing this step-by-step guide for making a wooden box! We've sent you an email, we would love to connect and collaborate with you.🙂
Very knowledgeable and very pretty, remarkable lady
Awww, thank you @jessegomez697
Love your work BUT please sort out that garage door pull knob 😂
:)
NICE rack!
She needs to smile more. She has a great one
What does that have to do with woodworking?
Are those real??? That's all I want to know! 😊
