Fashion Regrets That Will Save You Money! Fall Fashion Trends 2024
We all have fashion regrets - yes even the best laid plans can sometimes lead to us buying something that, no matter how hard we try, just doesn't work. Fortunately, this doesn't happen to me often. However, sometimes I get wowed by fashion trends or get fomo seeing other people wearing something and against my better judgment I cave and buy it and quite quickly regret it. The best way to avoid this happening is think about a number of ways you can wear these pieces before you take the plunge and buy them. Often my biggest fashion regrets result from me buying something on a bit of a whim and not putting enough time in to planning how I will wear a piece and whether it really fits into my lifestyle. Anyway, today I wanted to share a few of my fashion regrets to help you avoid doing the same and just as a little reminder that even the best laid plans can and do go wrong. I'd LOVE to hear about your fashion regrets in the comments below. Let's share the pain LOL
    Thanks for watching.

Puffer vests are a classic in the northern U.S. I have a couple that aren’t overly puffy and they look cute with a long sleeved tee and jeans. Especially good for running errands and football games!

I am guilty of buying tee shirts for my three sons at every track and field, band event, etc. they participated in. They had so many tee shirts with great memories. I ended up cutting the graphic section out of each tee and sewing them onto a large piece of fabric which I made into a quilt for each of them - and- they look great! And they use them! You would have to cut up your concert mementos but could be a great way to make them into something useful and unique.

I so relate to the feeling of not wanting other’s to focus on my size 11 flippers. I know that having the right shoes makes or breaks an outfit but it’s a fine balance between trying to make my feet inconspicuous while also being fashionable. 😬

Concert t-shirt would never be a regrettable thing for me. I love music, and I don’t mind showing my taste in music when going out. They are also about the same price as a regular t-shirt and I try to choose one that has minimal graphics or colors so they are easy to wear. I must not be very fashionable 😅

  • @minorityfringe387
    @minorityfringe387 5 วันที่ผ่านมา +8

I love puffer vests. You have to find the right one though. I don't like any of the ones you have shown. Personally, I prefer mine to be more cropped rather than oversized. I like very little stretch in my jeans, if any. My rule is 1-2% stretch max with the remaining cotton. I am happy if I can find 100% cotton denim. I'm old too at 59....lol. I will admit the stretch jeans now are better than they were a few years back. Back then they all seemed to stretch out after a few hours of wear and became very baggy. They also wore out very fast too with the cheap stretch. I went years without buying jeans because I hated the stretch so much and that's all you could buy at one point. I'm happy things have changed the past few years and I am now able to find denim jeans I like again.

    • @Thestyleinsider.
      @Thestyleinsider.  5 วันที่ผ่านมา +1

Yes you're right it depends on how much stretch is in the fabric - more than 1-2% and they will always stretch out of shape sadly :(

I also agree on the chunky boots. That style of boot is not flattering on me either, but I bought several pairs because of Selena Gomez on OMITB😅. Chunky white Chelsea boots. Guilty as charged. I agree. White jeans, white sweater, and maybe a black (or black and white tweed/check) jacket or blazer. That's because the sole of said chunky white Chelsea boots is black. I'm 5'2" and it is the only way to wear these. Fortunately, they only cost me $100 two years ago.

I also love the new sandals that Vionics and Aertrex have done and for a classic looking shoe Cole Hann, however they were the best when they had the collab with Nike. Fun vlog, Leonie.
    1) Adidas Sambas: Many months ago, I ordered a pair of mint green ones. They didn't look good on my feet at all. But, I should have predicted such before ordering them as my feet don't do well in Adidas in general. I'm a serious Nike Jordan 1 Low person.
    2) White Boots: For 3-4 years, I've had a pair of white, lace up, Doc Martens, but still haven't worn them. I bought them to wear with a specific outfit, but then decided on different footwear for the outfit.
    3) Trench Coats: I find that one to be a tricky one to get right. But, when the Brandon Blackwood Mercer trend coat came out a couple years ago, I jumped on it and it fit to perfection. I got tired of looking for a regular trench coat in the traditional khaki tan color as I couldn't find the shade of khaki tan, cut, or price that I wanted. And I had sold my full-length black Burberry trench coat, bought in the 1990s.
    4) Jeans with stretch: I personally detest stretch in jeans. But, sometimes one can't get around it these days.
    5) Animal Prints: Have always loved them.
    6) Concert T-shirts: They are usually only exciting for a while, but then end up in the bottom of a drawer. But, I'm glad that I bought my Tina Turner cotton knit jacket during her last concert tour as the quality is as high as regular jackets.
    7) Sweatshirts: I have lots of them as they work for my climate. But, I don't thrift them. I have a very targeted collection of them, bought new.
    8) Platform Sandals: I'm more for platform sneakers over sandals. As for sandals, Linea Paolo, from here in L.A. County, has nice sandals at good prices and great sale prices. Nice footwear in general. I remember when I bought my Fusbett style sandals in pony hair cheetah print around 5 years ago and they were great. I had them on the other day. And they didn't cost anywhere near the price of the high-end Fusbett sandals from the designer brand of which I'm sure you are familiar. I have bought Linea Paolo footwear for over a decade. When they throw sales, I get an e-mail and can easily find shoes marked down to $30/$40/$50 and sometimes a bit more. And I wear a size 41. For example, I love my PomPom Loafers that I bought months ago for $40 and they're still on final sale. I have a lot of their shoes.
    9) Chunky Ankle Boots: That can be a tricky one since they need to hit at the right place on either the ankle or the lower calf area for me.
    Greetings from Los Angeles

I can relate to all your choices and I already knew the lug sole chelsea style calf boots were not going to suit me, so I'm glad I dodged that mistake. My partner lent me one of his puffer vest years ago because I'm often cold and they are really versatile and functional but I can never make myself wear it out in public lol. He looks amazing in his, but I just can't do it sorry! I wanted to buy some platform sandals for the height but they also don't move or flex when you walk, and I remember wearing them 20 or so years ago, and they were just a safety hazard in the end! Sandals. I've bought two pairs now of Gianluca sandals from Amazon. They're handmade in Italy, real leather straps AND soles, a bit expensive but not too much ($125 or so American), and they come in men's and women's sizes; they're about identical. I wear an EU size 42, bought both pairs in a 42, and could definitely have gone with a 41, maybe even a 40. They're a bit long. But if you're into earthing, or natural or rustic is your vibe, as it is mine, these are great sandals. It'll probably take them 20 years to wear out.

Have always wondered what it would be like to have a cute and petite foot. However, lucky we have so many choices now, as back in the day it was not so.

No more jeans without stretch. I buy a T-shirt on every trip, concert, cool bar or restaurant I go to. It’s nuts. The SWEATSHIRT. . . I don’t want to admit to this. (DEEP BREATH) Okay. I LOVE sweatshirts. It’s epic. . . maybe an addiction. They must be very oversized. They must be plain or have the logo STITCHED on, and once I find one that meets the criteria, I keep it FOREVER! I decided to part with some, so I bagged them up and put them with the trash in the garage. My husband said he was going to the compacting station, and I panicked. There I was standing in the back of a pickup truck going through bags until I found them. I have some Eddie Bauer ones from the mid nineties. There. It’s all out there. I have a problem. I know. I know. I know. 🤷‍♀️🤦‍♀️

Add to the list alot of shoes and boots that are made of “man made” material because they are stiff, give you blisters and your feet can’t “breathe”. Also ankle boots and taller that don’t have zipper access are super awkward to take on and off. The older you get the more you realize the way clothes and shoes feel may be even more important than the way they look!

I've only bought a few concert shirts as they were always too expensive for me at that time of my life, but I've run in some charity runs and a lot of these give you those unflattering cotton t-shirts and a friend of mine had all hers sewn into a quilt/blanket so she could have the memories but not have to wear them.

I have a trench suitable for California…lightweight and not really waterproof. Last spring I traveled to England and figured I would need a heavier trench, so I bought a second one. In two weeks in England, we had 1 day of rain. Now I have a trench I won’t need in sunny California. Guess I should have gone to England in August to experience heavy rain!😂

I made the same decision this year regarding non stretch jeans. It’s hard bc I love the look of them but if they fit well while I am standing, they will cut into me when I sit down. I have some expensive pairs too but I just never wear them. 😢

Re: the black Adidas and white Docs
I am short, hourglass, with chunky legs and small feet - almost the opposite of you!. Black shoes make my feet look smaller and I look chunkier in the leg - UNLESS the black shoe is chunky too to bring some balance.
The white Docs would probably be good on someone like me as they would bring some balance by making my feet look less small. I have some tan Doc boots and they are great!

Oh, I so agree with you on the rigid platform sandals! I made repeated mistakes by being seduced purely by the look until I tried midform sandals from Teva. Lots of variations in colour and style but nothing beats their spongy sole.

Man if i had a dime for every piece that ended up donated or are STILL stagnant in my wardrobe id be wealthy.... Im proud of my animal print collection iv never got rid of any of it but i only have one piece of weird colored leapord... Leapord always comes back.... I didnt have to shop for it this year.... Wear your concert tshirts with animal print.... Boop!!!! ❤❤❤❤❤❤

I live in a cold weather state. Puffers are necessary. However, I am a short person. I only buy puffers that have small space stitching. If there is a big, square pattern--pass. If there is a design to the stitching especially if it gives the illusion of synching at the waist, yes. Nobody wants to look like the Michelin Tire man. If you want a 2nd or 3rd trench, the thrift it. Don't buy brand new.

On the subject of shoes, I have a friend that loves chunky ones bc she has small feet. She thinks the chunk balances her out. I do think we have to think of our proportions and shapes which includes shoes and with trends we need to evaluate if it suits us before purchasing. I’ve made so many purchase mistakes by not doing this. I’ve decided to up my game by using the index app to help me figure out what I will use before I buy more clothes. My closet is too full and in this world of too many clothes I definitely don’t want to contribute anymore.

I hear what your saying about ankle boots, I’m kind of the opposite. I have small calf muscles and bony ankles so I prefer boots that hit closer to my calf. As for concert t-shirts, I don’t wear them because I don’t like the dates on them. But I would rock a band t-shirt every day of the week if I could. I also like t-shirts from my favorite sports team. Not jerseys, t-shirts. 😊

I live in Colorado and love my puffer jackets and vests. They really do keep me warm in Winter and everyone wears them here. Band tees, in my younger days when I went to concerts I bought them and wore them out I wore them so much.....today I would not really want them so much. I never jumped on the chunky shoe/boot trend...I am tall and have big feet so they are not for me.

I love my puffer vests. I’m in Colorado, and it’s very versatile for our weather. I love oversized rigid jeans. I generally buy vintage jeans that are rigid, but soft from numerous washes. I don’t really like sweatshirts, I have a couple that I wear camping otherwise I don’t wear them. I’m not a fan of clunky shoes. I bought a pair of chunky loafers, I just don’t reach for them.
