Best hint I've heard about clothes is imagine you are in hospital and a friend has to go to your house and get you an outfit... Everything they potentially pick out of your wardrobe should be something you can comfortably and happily wear.
I keep thinking about this scenario because my husband and I divorced and my mom is gone ( I'm in my 60s and not the healthiest) so it would be my brother, nephew, his wife or 1 of 3 friends who I would call on. Even thought about putting an emergency bag together so all they'd need to do is grab it.
It is a nice advice! But my problem is I have clothes that suits me well and that make me feel beautiful but I never wear because I just prefer something more casual.
My grandparents shared a closet that was like a coat closet size, that’s what my mom had growing up. They didn’t have the options or the amounts of mass produced clothes we have today. We’ve been groomed, in recent generations, to have more than we realistically need to recklessly spend our hard earned money to our future detriment.
I decided to let go of the 'smaller size' clothes. If I do, by some magic, lose enough weight to drop a size, it'll be fun to reward myself with a few new pieces!
Yes! That's the way to do it :) Have all the clothes in your closet fit you n-o-w! Feels so good to look at a wardrobe of clothes that all fit you :) It may seem as though you have less clothes to choose from but in actuality it is the same amount without a lot of extra non-fitting clothes added in. Good job!
Each of you separately are great, but synergistically, the three of you together are just another level! I've been a member of Take Your House Back for a year, and my home has been transformed. Thank you, ladies 🥰 I love how the all-day-declutter feels like spending the day with three of my best friends. I found Dawn through Rachel Cruze, then I found Cas and Dana through Dawn. Thanks for taking the time and effort to make these videos. I love hearing you three laugh together.
When I’m hung upon a piece of clothing, it’s very helpful to wear it. Go out in it…just to the store for a hour. It’s very enlightening and the decision usually becomes very clear. Bam! ETA: I just heard you suggest this at the end of the video. Great minds think alike! It works.
That's actually what I'm doing with my underwear this week (I know, maybe tmi); I have a mixture of styles and sizes, and I'm really guilty of putting that pair that keeps slipping down, or pulling up into the dirty laundry instead of the garbage can. New week, repeat. New week, repeat. Not THIS week! If it's not comfortable this week, it's gone!
I use that strategy all the time. IF I just can't let go, I force myself to wear the item to run errands - many times I can't wait to get home, take off the item, and toss it in the donate box!!! I got rid of 3 pairs of pants this week doing that!
I do the opposite with my hangers. I live in New England so we have all 4 seasons. Every season I put the clothes in the closet the right way. After I wear something I turn the hanger backwards. If I want to reach for a backwards hanger but still have front facing ones I know they are to be donated. My wardrobe is so well done now this no longer happens! Yay! I also keep only one project (paint stained) outfit for each cold or warm weather. I also have 2 bottoms (long for cold) (Capri or shorts for summer) and two tops (long sleeve for cold, short sleeve for warm) for lounging or hanging at home. I didn't think I would get there, but I did. The best tip for coming up with a style is to take 30 days and write down every thing you wear, along with how you felt in the outfit and what activity was going on that day. After the 30 days come up with 3 words that explain your clothes. Mine is comfortable, lightweight, and structured. I like simple not fussy. When shopping for clothing an item must fall in line with my 3 words or it stays at the store. XO
Interview clothes, funeral clothes, church clothes, messy work clothes, camping clothes - I am not wearing those 90% of the time, but I don’t want to get rid of them. I like athletic gear and work from home but I need to look put together once in a while
@@sugarfree4118put them in a box and label the occasions. No need to have those clothes clutter up your wardrobe and when the time comes that you actually need them, you don't have to sift through a lot of clothes to find what you need
The hospital where I work as a nurse recently switched to everyone wearing the same grey scrubs. At first, I was disappointed and upset about not being able to wear my cute, colorful scrubs. However, I've since realized how freeing it is, just as you mentioned, to be able to pick out any top and pants from my collection and know they will work for the day. It really just sets the day off right! ❤
A year ago I switched to a job that has uniforms--grey shirts, black or grey sweatshirts, and jeans. Best Thing Ever! It takes me five seconds to set out my clothes every night, and I'm not buying nearly as many clothes for my off time. I love it!!
@@m.b.ortega544my mom and I went to a Dr office last week and everyone had on gray scrubs and the entire office was gray. We couldn't wait to get outta there! We both love bright clothes 😂😂
@@m.b.ortega544 But it's a workplace, you're there to work. Why should anyone care about your personality and individuality at work? It's not like it's your birthday party 😂
I spent some time in a new-to-me hospital and then a related acute rehab facility- each category of employee had different colored scrubs. Nurses: blue, therapists: gray, doctors: green, et al.
I'm a new subscriber and I'm thrilled with this content. While I was watching this video, I was taken back to 1978 when I started college. My closet wasn't full and I soon realized I was poorer than my dormmates. I ironed my clothes everyday so I looked the best I could. Now, I have plenty and my car's trunk is full, ready for a delivery to my local thrift store. I appreciate the inspiration. Continued blessings!
I'm ruthlessly decluttering all aspects of my home right now. We've lead a minimalist lifestyle for about a decade now but during this season of life I feel like I spend waaaay too much time putting things away, doing laundry and generally just managing things. I can't! I don't have the bandwidth! So we're going even further in our minimalism and it feels SO great. Even when you think there aren't any more things that could possibly leave, you find something. Several bags have left our home the last few weeks. And as usual, now that they've left I don't really remember what they were. It's wonderful!
I live 99% of my life in jeans (retired). I found a brand and style that works well for my body shape across multiple sizes. That is the only brand and style I buy and wear. When my size changes there is no angst because “I love those cute jeans”. All my jeans are the same style, the only difference is the fit. It makes letting go really easy. Individuality can come in my tops.
I wish I could say the same. I used to wear Levis (I forgot which one exactly) for 25 years. They were so comfortable, and went just perfect with my body shape. 3 years ago my last pair broke and I when I wanted to replace them I realized that they no longer make it. 😢 Still havent found a good alternative, so still searching. Havent even found them anywhere online, not even second hand... Lesson learned: If I find something I absolutely love I will go back to the store and get it again even if that means I end up having 2 or even 3 of the same item.
Thank you for addressing the weight fluctuation wardrobe instead of saying keep what you wear now. I'm in the fluctuation group and have a 3 size range. I also appreciated advice to put colors together, then see what can go.
Another “fluctuator” here. I limit my self to 1-2 items in each category. One size up and one size down. I am currently losing weight so recently decluttered. I didn’t keep one of every size I ever wore, just the three sizes and the absolute minimum in each size I am not currently wearing.
I've been steady for a while but have been known to fluctuate. So I keep one size down. I have been losing weight since I broke my ribs and broke my neck and wrist. I decluttered the other sizes because I know I'm not going to be skinny again
Yes. My weight has fluctuated so much and I have saved so much money by not getting rid of the bigger and smaller clothing. This year I have lost 46 pounds in 6 months but there are years that I have gained like that. But even as I feel like I can stabilize here, I am in between 2 sizes and my hips are a different size than my waist and chest.
I started going through my closet and got a box of nice clothes that don’t fit, suit, or excite me. It’s in the back of my car to drop off this afternoon. They’re going to the Women’s Center for women who need interview and professional clothes. I gave them a dozen pairs of shoes I haven’t worn since I stopped working in the law office at the beginning of the pandemic. I don’t want to throw out excellent condition quality clothing and certainly don’t have the bandwidth to consign them. It feels good knowing women in tight circumstances will have a variety of good items to pick from.
Thank you for the kind words,@@kj7653 . The truth is I've experienced homelessness and, as an American single mom in college, am living in poverty. That has caused me to be really clingy to things out of fear that letting go will mean lack down the road. The truth is I have so many things that aren't working for me that it makes me overwhelmed (and I often give up) digging through what does work for me. Purging is functional for me and, knowing quality things are going to people like me who happen to need them now makes it easier to let go. I may not be the same size when I'm done with school five years from now. Knowing I can go to those same career clothes closets I've been blessed to contribute to make me feel more secure. So I want to be careful and not dismiss a compliment. I do accept yours and appreciate them. I just wanted to share how it's not just some altruistic thing for me; it's also part of mental health, balance, letting go, getting over a poverty mindset, and learning to trust. That others will benefit from my former law office wardrobe and I'll have more functional closets is the cherry on top.
My 4 year old is obsessed with picking out my clothes for the day. This has been super motivating. I no longer have anything in my closet I don't actually want to wear. 😅
This is so hard for me and a real hang-up. In tears watching you Ladies today. After going through breast cancer, learning to dress my new body has been one of the hardest things. You all have made it so much easier, even if I'm slowly doing the clothes. I don't have the energy anymore to do seasonal swaps so I invested in a few long ottomans. They are placed by the side of my bed. I put my winter nightgowns, sweaters and holiday "ugly" items in them. Lol. This has helped. If my winter clothes don't fit in the bins, I have too much. Thank you all for being a light in my life during a difficult time. I love you all even though we've never met. ❤️
I am also a 2x breast cancer survivor and radiation has left my skin so sensitive I got rid of anything that wasn't soft or comfortable. I could care less about fashion but it was hard to let go of my "before cancer" clothes/image.
Thank you Dawn for addressing that you had to overcome your teens putting fairly new items in the donation bin…I’m right there right now. What a great idea to have them spend their own $ toward clothing gives them power to make the decisions of what comes in and goes out. God bless you ladies! Wonderful content!!
For me when I am ambivalent about a piece of clothing, I tell myself that I need to wear it on the next opportunity ( weather, occasional) if something stops me or I find I don’t like it out it goes. Otherwise I find that I do really like it and wear it more
I heard a content creator say today. Disregard the clothing size, fast trends, etc. Buy what feels good and you feel beautiful in. Nobody knows or cares what size the garment is.
We are redoing the floors in our house, so everything has been moved out. Decluttered a few weeks before I did it again when I was moving everything out and now as everything is going back in over the next few days, I’m going to take another pass. You three have helped me so much understanding my ADHD my cleaning habits and how to help myself and my family live better.
I am loving the girl talk vibes of this!! The insight about letting go of things and still having them be favorites was a really helpful way for me to think about it 💕🤗
Decluttering on laundry day can be helpful. Whatever is still clean/on hangers is much more likely to be the stuff you would rather not wear. And if the closet is still full on laundry day you have a lot more clothing than you need.
They make getting dressed very hard IMO..it takes me about 5 seconds to pull something out even for Sunday church. I don't need a uniform but each to their own.
When downsizing my closet, I found it helpful to sort my tops by sleeve length (sleeveless, short sleeved, 3/4 length sleeve, long sleeve). Donating example: I really like wearing these 5 sleeveless tops. They are pretty colors/patterns. They are comfortable/flattering. But, these 4 sleeveless tops can be donated because I don’t “love” them.
This one is tricky for me in pregnancy. I do go back to my prepregnancy size after about a year, but my "today body" is constantly changing for the next 18 months! I keep it pretty minimal, but all of these transition clothes are currently adding up. I'm not complaining. I'm just commenting. You three are the best!
I had a "Time Will Tell" bin (mostly clothes that didn't fit) that I went to when I heard of someone whose house burned down and needed clothes that size. I had already pulled out the "maybes", and knowing they were going to someone who really needed them, I was able to be let more go.
Cas, Dawn, and Dana. A triple treat! I was just thinking yesterday that I need to watch Cas or Dawn for help with the clothes issues. Just came on YT to pull up an *old* vid of either of these ladies and found this! Brand new. (Love you, too, Dana, just more familiar with the other two). I have gotten so many good tips and motivation from you guys, and actually act on a lot of it. But my biggest problem area is probably clothes and jewelry. I am *not* a clothes or jewelry hound, by any means. But I used to work in an office and had to dress nice. I now work from home and it truly is "a different season of life". And I don't have a lot of clothes, compared to a lot of people (I'm a pretty basic and simple dresser). But! There are some things in my closet that I have *never* worn but I can't bear to part with them. Same with jewelry. I usually wear the same necklaces and earrings (if I even decide to wear jewelry that day), but I can't bear to get rid of some of them. I love your "Does it fit and do I feel good in it?". I am always fluctuating with the same 20 pounds (and honestly, need to lose about 60 pounds, to be brutally honest) and those 'thinner' jeans are always extremely hard for me to part with. This is my biggest problem area. Thank you, ladies! Great motivation and just what I was looking for.
Dream team!!! I love watching you ladies declutter together. I can relate to each of you and love that you all have a different approach that comes together to the same goal. Thank you!
With one of my teenage daughters, I had to ask her to create a seasonal space. She'd get rid of all her winter clothes because she wasn't wearing them. Then winter would come and she didn't have anything and we don't have the funds to replace things. She now puts seasonal items in a bin and then during that season she can declutter the things she just really doesn't want. I have six children and they each have six different clutter/decluttering styles. It's fascinating to see how each of them maintain things differently.
@@kellim338 some of them showed their unique tendencies as young as 3, other 12. One kid I thought would keep everything forever. As a teen, he finally started letting go of some of it. Following Dana's you can keep anything, you just can't keep everything has helped. It's not always easy to allow them to keep things but I have learned to let it go and choose my battles.
Lol ~ at myself! For years, quite frankly before seeing your videos, I've been encouraging friends to declutter (I call it de-crapping!) The one word I repeatedly used was...be 'RUTHLESS' with yourself! Then, after the work is done, maintain & buy very little more. Be SELECTIVE only with new items. ♡
Thank you for all the great tips. Even though my wardrobe is pretty minimal already, I always love your wardrobe videos, to remind myself “I’m not the weird one, even though people think it’s weird, that I have very few clothes.” @Dana: at least 30 times a day I repeat your mantra “take it there now!” - your no mess decluttering method was an absolute game changer for me. :)
I agree with clothes being bullies. I finally got rid of those “I’m hoping to fit into again” bullies today and they were replaced by my “current season of life” clothes. I held them for a while but time told me to move on and accept myself as I am.
Love this, it's kind of how I declutter my closet yearly. I don't go by color but I go by category because it's how my closet is organized so like all my tshirts first, then tank tops, then workout shirts, then sweaters, dresses ect. I definitely have quite a bit of clothes but I do wear all of it at some point in the year. And I do like a couple options as well but it is all maintained, organized, neat, and doesn't take up space in my mind or extra space other than my closet. This video is awesome, and another great tool
I love you three gals so much! You have helped me get my house in order even though I had mountains of stuff shoved in every inch of my house. I now have drawers and closets about 1/2 to 3/4 full. I know where everything is. It's a miracle!
I took out a bunch of skorts that haven’t fit in years. I picked up each one to look at the sizes to see if there might be one pair that fits. I heard an unexpected jingle and found my spare keys that have by missing for a long time
I've learned so much from each of you individually and having the three of you together just makes me happy. Smiled through the whole video. Thank you!
I’ve been in the course since the beginning. But I have to say my favorite videos are the ones with all of you together in person! Wish you all lived closer to each other!
Placing the clothing colors together rather dumping them all out is doable! Thank you for this great idea. I have been procrastinating attacking my wardrobe because I hate starting something that I can't finish in one session (and even if I can't do this in one session, at least I'm not looking at the mess which further thwarts my efforts. Just shut the door, and start again the next day,)
You three are the best! My home has been transformed over the past few years I have been in the Take Your House Back course, AND I learn something new or getnnew inspiration in every video you do! Thank you!❤❤❤
Wow! Healthy relationship with clothes? I’ve had a therapy session for it. Love the idea of wearing everything and then deciding. I tend to buy several of the same top, trousers, etc. and wear the same thing everyday, the only thing that’ll be different is the colour of the top due to not being able to get them one I want. I wear them until there are more holes than fabric and they aren’t worn in public. I hate clothes and shoe shopping so I don’t have too much, just have a decluttered smaller clothes tubs.
Me too! I have three pairs of jeans (to deal with that fluctuating size round my middle!) and then half a dozen t-shirts the same style but different colours. I've realised that I always reach for the navy and dark green ones first though, so once the lighter colours wear out, I'll be replacing them with navy.
I have a lazy way to identify clothes I don't wear. I am privileged to have a laundry room with a very long clothing rod. I hang dry most of my clothes on that rod and tend to leave them there in laundry room until I need them. The advantage is that when my closet is almost empty, whatever is left is what I'm not wearing. This could work by using a spare closet, too. Its less lazy if your spare clothing rod is in the basement, like mine. I also use the laundry room to store my party and out of season clothes.
Great segment! So fun to hear everybody's thoughts! I resonate with Dana. What works for me is decluttering an area, say the closet, in chunks. One day - clothing, another day - shoes, another day - handbags, etc...
Thank you for doing these in depth discussions on this... there are always new helpful gems. I also regularly go up and down in weight and many of my clothes I've had for over 10 years now, so it's easier to spot patterns. What I noticed is that some of those clothes only fit well when I am EXACTLY at the right weight for that piece. So I have to try it on every few months or so to see if I can wear it. Other pieces, they fit and look good no matter my exact weight. Realizing this was a mini game changer. The clothes that fit my body well even as I go up and down in weight are the right clothes for me. The pieces that only fit/look good when I am exactly a certain size just cause stress. No more holding on to pieces that fit once in a blue moon - it's too much work. Btw - that includes the pieces that only look good when I am at a higher weight... they look like bags when I am skinnier. I also realized I grew up with a strange "this is great to wear to a wedding, so yes, buy it" rule of sorts. As in: yes, this would be great to wear to a wedding. But how often do I go to one????? I don't really like fancy things as a rule, because they rip more easily, aren't as comfortable usually etc. All in all - I am not a fancy clothes type of person. Yet when shopping, this "would be great for a wedding" thing still auto-haunted me. I have bought some things over the years - that I barely wore! - due to this strange "rule". Recently, in sorting through my clothes, I realized that that strange rule had been messing with my choices. So now I know, if I ever try something on and think: "that would be great to wear to a wedding"... I need to leave it at the store 🤣
I do the backward hanger. With the change of season, I will go into my closet (and drawers) for all the hangers that never changed position. Those are the items I question whether it stays or goes. Like Cass, I struggle with weight and the upper arms, so what I liked last year may not look the best on me now. Thank you, ladies, for your motivating advice. 😊
Dawn - you always look so "put together"! (and that's the goal!) At my job, we wear t-shirts and jeans (or shorts if it's hot). That's 5 days a week. I don't need anything "fashionable" for the weekend, so that really helps my clothing choices (and I save so much money!)
Keeping clothing that's a little smaller in case I lose weight has worked VERY nicely in my house. My daughter (turning 18 soon) is just one size smaller than I am (even though she weighs more than I do) and she gets more clothing from which to choose and my just in case faves don't leave the house. I don't even care if they end up residing in her closet and not in my just in case bin because I can always raid her closet in the future. (she's not going away for college).
I have 30 identical tops, 10 identical jeans, a drawer full of identical underwear, socks, etc. I wash an entire batch of only tops, or only jeans, etc. There's no decision fatigue, and there's minimal laundry/care. Yes, I keep other outfits for going out to dinner or parties etc, but my standard daily uniform is decided. The special clothes don't get worn out with day to day life. It's a different kind of minimalism. I love it.
Thank you ladies. I was watching this and went through my closet and winter stuff and tried things on and got rid of a bunch. The thing is now I have to be so intentional about what I buy. I have plenty for winter. I just have to take a list of what I am looking for so I do not come out of stores with things I am not 100 percent liking or just because it is cheap or looks cute. I need to try things on and if I can not really make sure if used that I will wear it.
Dawn, this blue shirt and jewelry look wonderful on you. FYI, I know a couple of people who pick out their outfit the night before, which I tried, but at over 50, just can't remember. Now I'm retired, so it's not a big deal, and I am very blessed that I have never fluctuated much in weight. I will admit I have too much in the closet, but partially because my husband passed away a few years ago, and I stopped doing the 1 in, 1 out action I used to do. Also, I have pink shirts with short sleeves, long sleeves, and tank tops, because here in southern CA, I can't really put away seasonal stuff. The hangar being backwards after 6 mos or a year usually means I haven't gone to a work event or a play, to dress up to wear them.
I was literally putting laundry away when I turned this video on. I get a lot of cute clothes second hand and many of them don’t really go with anything else…I have proverbially adopted lots of orphans! And so, many pants are muffin top pants because I’m a difficult shape, many are awkwardly not long enough as well. To “resolve” this, I endure with belts, long tops, loose tops, boots in the summer, scrunchy socks, etc. do I like those things? No. But I’ve comforted myself with the myth that I saved a lot of money buying orphans I don’t wear and feeling uncomfortable in them when I do…only to adopt them all out to goodwill in a year or so 😂 and then feeling guilty! Im a clothing sanctimonious Pharisee. 😂🎉
I so love you guys together! Thanks for not only giving us great advice, but also for being those friends to hang out with to make this fun! Body quadrupling!😁🤩🥰
I love you all and your friendship with each other just makes the environment you’ve created, that much more special.😊 You all have a beautiful way of making us feel like we’re right there with you.💕
Dawn, Great video. Last wk, I pulled all the clothes that didn't currently fit & decided what to put in a time will tell bin & donate. It's so nice to walk to my closet & know that everything fits. I keep my clothes by color alphabetically. I also bought all pink velvet hsngers. It's so pretty. I love it. 😊
You three are so beautiful inside and out! Together you make a trifecta! I’m glad God has guided you all together to help SO many people! I’m grateful! Have a fabulous day! 💟
This is Gold ! Love you ladies! I have been pretty diligent over the years at donating good clothes I no longer wear ( & throwing out the worn out ones): I agree with Marie Kondo that clothes are the easiest declutter category - along with any TRASH in general, as Dana points out with “duh clutter”. Yet …. Once again, my small closet would thank me for another purge ! Gotta do it. Such a helpful, inspiring video. Thank you, Dana , Cas & Dawn ! Liz
A time will tell/quarantine box REALLY works for me. If you're someone who doesn't trust your decisions, it helps having that extra security that you can pull the items back out if you ever need them. I'm also sentimental about a lot of things (including my clothes!) so I find that putting them in a quarantine box gives me a degree of separation from my stuff and it's easier to let it go later. I find that I go further doing it this way because I'm much more liberal with what I'm willing to put in a quarantine box than if I thought the decision was final final!
I have learned so much from your channel! Each day I’m taking big bites on my clutter getting rid of stuff. My anxiety is improving. I would like to know the brand of your refrigerator. I love yours & wonder if you have been happy with it. I really need a fridge this week, so waiting to hear back on the pros & cons of yours. Thanks more than you know.
I watched all 3 videos from the 3 of you. These were amazing!!! I can see why people love your take your house back course!! My house is mostly decluttered and we live a minimal lifestyle. But I think I would enjoy your course anyway
I go up and down in weight so my clothes are hung on to unless they are trend pieces, but they get tucked away just like my seasonal items. Im currently back into most of my lower size clothes and am glad I hung onto them.
I like having alot of different tops, it makes me happy to have many choices. And if I only wear black, blue, and grey pants and jeans, every color top would be an option. I do flip my hangers after I wear something. But I also put the newly washed top at the end of the rod. That way I'll grab the ones in front of me with the hanger unflipped first. Also, more clothes means I'm not washing the same items every week and they last longer.
LOVE 💕 you three ladies! I literally just spent a few days decluttering my wardrobe and I got rid of A LOT!Just watched this video and I will be going back again with these methods to declutter further because let me tell you A LOT MORE needs to go! Thank you 🙏🏽 this was just what I needed 🥰 THANK YOU 🙏🏽
I love all your videos...been watching for years...BUT today was laundry day and I was opening TH-cam while I folded. Can I just say, this was perfect timing and I'm so glad it was the first video to pop up! These clothes have been our bullies for too long 😂
@@nancyelizabeth8364 right! I live in Minnesota and have a lot of hobbies - yoga, hiking, gardening plus am a small business owner and SAHM. I do have a fairly minimal wardrobe but would LOVE to see a capsule wardrobe for more activewear for all 4 seasons that we can often experience in one day lol
This video has been very helpful. My question is do you put away your winter clothes when it’s summer and vice versa? My closet is absolutely stuffed! Then I took over my daughter’s closet when she moved out. Then I took over my second daughter’s closet when she moved out. This is SO hard for me!
I could never pair down my closet this much. I have clothes for a lot of different activities. I live in a very warm climate but travel back to the Midwest several times a year. I’m not going to have 1 or 2 outfits for travel. I used to do that and every picture of me is in the same few items. I do however, move out clothes that don’t fit and my winter clothes are in a different closet.
I just went through my closet. Have a large box full of nice clothing that goes to Operation Blessing in the nearest town. Still very warm where I live, so when cool season clothes come out, I plan to have another large box. It feels so good to have space!❤🎉 Thank You!!!
I live in a 4 season state and am always pregnant/postpartum, always fluctuating. I literally have a capsule wardrobe for each season(going on baby #10, so it gets a lot of use, haha!). And it's enough to fit into a Tupperware in our basement and that's all. I do have a rare few pieces that I can use irregardless of what season I'm in.
I had no idea how to declutter my clothes. I did manage to get my wardrobe to more manageable levels (this is not including the endless boxes I have of other clothes that I 'might' one day wear) but I still found I hardly wear any of it. I will have to try this method and see how it goes!
I know I'm in need of a major closet declutter because i have added some new things to my closet and I am feeling super overwhelmed by laundry..also noticing a lot of pieces I never reached for this summer so those have got to go. Just pulled out my fall wardrobe as the seasons are changing and i found a BUNCH of stuff that no longer fits. I love the idea of dressing your body for Today makes life so much more simplified and streamlined 🧡
I have a top & a bottom asigned to M-Sat. Sunday I have 4 outfits to rotate through for church plus a lounge outfit. Of course I have pajamas (one for summer, one for winter), one exercise outfit, and a work in the yard outfit. Oh and I also have one dressy shirt and skirt. I think that's it!
This will be me someday. I have too many dresses, I don't get to use them all to go to my meetings, and these are twice a week. Plus, when I do wear them, they are lightly used so I can wear them again, without them going into the wash, so I find myself repeating within the month and I look like the same portrait all the time
Best hint I've heard about clothes is imagine you are in hospital and a friend has to go to your house and get you an outfit...
So true, in the show "hoarders" they are asked to pick out the things they would choose to save in a fire.
@@lisab9541That’s so smart !
It is a nice advice! But my problem is I have clothes that suits me well and that make me feel beautiful but I never wear because I just prefer something more casual.
That's a BRILLIANT hack! Thanks Claire!
I just witnessed the holy trinity of decluttering in action 😊
uaint kidding. this was awesome
Agreed! This is awesome!
Excellent
Looks like I have some items to declutter once again 😂 alright Dawn, I'll do it!! 😅🎉
YOU THREE GALS TOGETHER IN PERSON!!!! Woot Woot
Mine, too. And my mom had a church dress that she wore every Sunday.
Well said
We're lucky to have witnessed that aren't we? They weren't any more or less happier than we are/can be based on their possessions. Simple times.
Well said.
Good job!
My dopamine levels went through the roof when I saw you 3 together ❤
Each of you separately are great, but synergistically, the three of you together are just another level! I've been a member of Take Your House Back for a year, and my home has been transformed. Thank you, ladies 🥰 I love how the all-day-declutter feels like spending the day with three of my best friends. I found Dawn through Rachel Cruze, then I found Cas and Dana through Dawn. Thanks for taking the time and effort to make these videos. I love hearing you three laugh together.
❤
I love this suggestion! It works well for me too 😊
Same, this works for me. I wear it on a Sunday or something to a store etc. if I'm uncomfortable or think it's blah, it goes into the donation pile
I use that strategy all the time. IF I just can't let go, I force myself to wear the item to run errands - many times I can't wait to get home, take off the item, and toss it in the donate box!!! I got rid of 3 pairs of pants this week doing that!
@@dsmith9796 Yes, I hear you. It's kind of like, the minute you put the item on you're thinking, yep, this one's not staying...giving this one away...
XO
The hanger thing is SO SMART. I’m totally going to do this.
That actually makes a lot more sense to my brain, and takes no work to get started! 👍🏻👍🏻
Sometimes, it is easier to declutter clothes when the laundry basket is full because what's clean are things that I'm not really wearing.
Great logic!
Brilliant idea.
Great tip!
Grey only?? How communist and drab! I love expressing myself, and my individuality through my clothing.
Hi Filippa, how's your day going with you?
“Your clothes are bullying you…” 😂😂 That’s the best!
Yeah, I love that.. certain clothes can bully you.
Truely!!
I declutterred about 105 clothing items last week! Thanks girls!
Wow, that's amazing! I'm doing it more gradually.
Congrats!
Wow! And blessed other people - great job 💜
What brand did you find that you like? I’m looking for a brand that fits someone with a thick “middle”….
I was wondering the same thing
@@ltaj7336 I’d really like to know. Maybe they will answer for us 👍
I wish I could say the same.
🙂❤
I've been steady for a while but have been known to fluctuate. So I keep one size down. I have been losing weight since I broke my ribs and broke my neck and wrist. I decluttered the other sizes because I know I'm not going to be skinny again
Yes. My weight has fluctuated so much and I have saved so much money by not getting rid of the bigger and smaller clothing. This year I have lost 46 pounds in 6 months but there are years that I have gained like that. But even as I feel like I can stabilize here, I am in between 2 sizes and my hips are a different size than my waist and chest.
Love that you are inviting viewers to each others channels. We all have something unique to share and learn!😊
I had my kids start doing their own laundry at age 9. They were perfectly capable. It was a huge help to me.
Kudos to you!!! Well done!
You are wonderful.
🙏🙏🙏
Sending you love and prayers ❤🙏🏻
🍀🤗
💝💝💝
I am also a 2x breast cancer survivor and radiation has left my skin so sensitive I got rid of anything that wasn't soft or comfortable. I could care less about fashion but it was hard to let go of my "before cancer" clothes/image.
Thank you Dawn for addressing that you had to overcome your teens putting fairly new items in the donation bin…I’m right there right now. What a great idea to have them spend their own $ toward clothing gives them power to make the decisions of what comes in and goes out. God bless you ladies! Wonderful content!!
What perfect timing! I am currently decluttering my clothes and decided to play something while I worked on it and this comes up 😄
Same! lol
I'm preparing myself. Clothing is next for me
For me when I am ambivalent about a piece of clothing, I tell myself that I need to wear it on the next opportunity ( weather, occasional) if something stops me or I find I don’t like it out it goes.
I have turned Ruthless, since watching u guys the last few wks, iv no hrs in the day 4 tonnes of clutter!!! thank you ALL! xxx
When I do laundry I make complete outfits on 1 hanger (shirt, pants, necklace). I pull out the hanger the night before, that is what I put on at 5am.
That is is a really neat concept! I may try this
They make getting dressed very hard IMO..it takes me about 5 seconds to pull something out even for Sunday church. I don't need a uniform but each to their own.
I always lay out my clothes the night before because I’m a zombie in the mornings😂
Fantastic idea set outfits for each day of work so much easier
Yup! I have been doing this for years! Easy and I use the majority of my clothing because I'm actually noticing what I have.
Same!
At what age did you start to see their unique tendencies emerge? My 5yo recently started cluttering! 🤷♀️
Even though my wardrobe is pretty minimal already, I always love your wardrobe videos, to remind myself “I’m not the weird one, even though people think it’s weird, that I have very few clothes.”
@Dana: at least 30 times a day I repeat your mantra “take it there now!” - your no mess decluttering method was an absolute game changer for me. :)
I agree with clothes being bullies. I finally got rid of those “I’m hoping to fit into again” bullies today and they were replaced by my “current season of life” clothes. I held them for a while but time told me to move on and accept myself as I am.
So cool, that the three of you post together and are hanging out together 👋🇩🇰🤩
Love this, it's kind of how I declutter my closet yearly. I don't go by color but I go by category because it's how my closet is organized so like all my tshirts first, then tank tops, then workout shirts, then sweaters, dresses ect. I definitely have quite a bit of clothes but I do wear all of it at some point in the year. And I do like a couple options as well but it is all maintained, organized, neat, and doesn't take up space in my mind or extra space other than my closet. This video is awesome, and another great tool
Your shirt is so perfect for you Dawn! It looks fantastic.
Just picked 21 items of clothing to donate/sell while listening. 🎉🎉🎉
I love it when you guys are all together! Your energy is so amazing!
I love you three gals so much! You have helped me get my house in order even though I had mountains of stuff shoved in every inch of my house. I now have drawers and closets about 1/2 to 3/4 full. I know where everything is. It's a miracle!
Half- or 3/4-full drawers--living the dream!
Just shut the door, and start again the next day,)
Dana, you make me feel so normal! Thank you!
You three are the best! My home has been transformed over the past few years I have been in the Take Your House Back course, AND I learn something new or getnnew inspiration in every video you do! Thank you!❤❤❤
Love this! Having all of my favorite friends making my life so much better! ❤️👍❤️👍❤️👍
Hi Susan, how's your day going with you?
What people don't realize about most of the cute patterned dishes, cups & seasonal ceramic kitchen ware... has lead in these products!
Love watching you all together. Very helpful.
I love seeing you, Cas and Dana hanging out and working together :)
Thanks, guys. I LOVE when the three of you are together. Such helpful tips! ❤❤❤
1st - my 3 favorite girls in one video!
2nd - I've been decluttering and my closet is the worst! Toughest thing to do.
Dawn, Dana and Cas, 3 of my favorite!
Dawn - you always look so "put together"! (and that's the goal!) At my job, we wear t-shirts and jeans (or shorts if it's hot). That's 5 days a week. I don't need anything "fashionable" for the weekend, so that really helps my clothing choices (and I save so much money!)
Awesome! Thank all 3 of you! This is the motivation needed to put my fall wardrobe together guilt free and get rid of the excess
I love it.
Why you need 30 tops...? Why 10 jeans...? For me 5 tops and 3 jeans are more than enough.
What would that uniform be? Like what kind of top and jean would you say work for every day wear?
Thank you ladies. I was watching this and went through my closet and winter stuff and tried things on and got rid of a bunch. The thing is now I have to be so intentional about what I buy. I have plenty for winter. I just have to take a list of what I am looking for so I do not come out of stores with things I am not 100 percent liking or just because it is cheap or looks cute. I need to try things on and if I can not really make sure if used that I will wear it.
You three ladies completely changed my home and, thereby, by life. Thank you! ❤❤❤
I love you all and your friendship with each other just makes the environment you’ve created, that much more special.😊 You all have a beautiful way of making us feel like we’re right there with you.💕
You three ladies are an awesome team, thanks for sharing your wisdom with us!!
I have my closet down by half and bought bins for my off-season items. I want it down more and this video is so timely and needed. Thank you!
Thank you 🙏🏽 this was just what I needed 🥰 THANK YOU 🙏🏽
Cas, you look GORGEOUS in that blue! 💗
I am helping a friend declutter her house right now we're getting to her clothes which are 2rooms full of clothes. Thanks for all this wisdom😊
I love all your videos...been watching for years...BUT today was laundry day and I was opening TH-cam while I folded.
Can I just say, this was perfect timing and I'm so glad it was the first video to pop up!
These clothes have been our bullies for too long 😂
12 dresses, 4 sweaters, 2 leggings. That’s my total wardrobe. Thank goodness I live in FL.
That would be my dream I love dresses but live in Canada lol 🥶
What a fun trio! You are all three in my head, and I am grateful for your teaching.
Thank you Dawn, CAS and Dana! This was sensational.
Oh my gosh I get 3 videos of you ladies in one day??!!! And on my birthday week?! 🥳🥳🥳
My birthday week too! 🎉
Me too!!!:)
Happy Birthday 🎂
I live in a 4 season state and am always pregnant/postpartum, always fluctuating. I literally have a capsule wardrobe for each season(going on baby #10, so it gets a lot of use, haha!). And it's enough to fit into a Tupperware in our basement and that's all. I do have a rare few pieces that I can use irregardless of what season I'm in.
You ladies are just wonderful 🎉
I also have 4 outfits that I rotate through for Sunday. 😄
This will be me someday. I have too many dresses, I don't get to use them all to go to my meetings, and these are twice a week. Plus, when I do wear them, they are lightly used so I can wear them again, without them going into the wash, so I find myself repeating within the month and I look like the same portrait all the time
