I absolutely love that you included outfit-repeating as an indicator of chic here. I know a few people will dismiss it with 'oh she's only saying that because she promotes slow fashion' but actually the chicness is in the self-awareness. A 'uniform' is an indicator of self-connection. Knowing yourself and being true to what you like is the kind of effortless, unapologeticness that I think we're all striving for...
It can also be an indicator of a lack of money, time/energy to get dressed in the morning, or lack of imagination. For most most of my adult life I've worn jeans, t-shirts and sneakers... because of those reasons I just mentioned. That being said, I know everyone isn't like me.
First, thank you for always being inclusive in your chosen models. It means more than you will ever know. Second, this is a fabulous list that's not super specific; it's more a feel or aura that makes someone chic. Third, I love vintage but have trouble finding it as a plus sized beauty. However, now that I'm in my 50s, I can find vintage in my own closet.
It’s chic that you recognize style and beauty at all ages without making it “a thing”. I have recently unsubscribed to another style TH-camr for constantly warning women over 50 to “be careful” in choosing certain trends or styles lest we look like we are trying too hard or worse, a “grandma”. Confidence and support for other women is truly chic.

There are so many women who we see on the street or at work that are so chic and elegant, not necessarily because of what they wear but the way they carry themselves. I, personally, notice the attitude first, and the outfit comes second 😊
The outfit repeating category made me feel better because my friends were commenting on common themes in my wardrobe (they meant it as a compliment) but it made me feel like maybe it’s too predictable and I should switch it up. I’m just going to choose to see it as a signature staple. 😌
Yes I have a dear close friend who came over one day and said "the process to becoming you is almost complete...I bought my first jean skirt today!" haha I live in jean skirts. Sometimes we just have signature items!

Funny you mentioned thrifting. I was flirting with buying a new scarf for the fall, then I remembered that one of my daughters literally collected them over the years. Headed straight for her closet and borrowed 3 different colors to add accent to my winter wardrobe. Money (and planet) saved.
I LOVE this topic. Personal style is so much more fascinating to me than the trend cycle. I love see how people build their own styles and celebrate their uniqueness.
I agree that style is completely about attitude. That “I don’t know what” quality. The persons way of moving in the world with unforced, unpretentious confidence in themself, with their clothes merely being a supporting character. But aesthetically, “style” to me is… - Enviably “well worn but well maintained” pieces. That pricey bag that is clearly a trusty staple and has been loved for years, but not worn-out and uncared-for, and that clearly still does the job. - Shorter length nude nails, simple makeup, and easy hair that says, “I take care of myself but I am NOT a slave to my routine or the salon.” - A beautiful analog watch that says, “I am punctual, stylish, and refuse to let yet another screen into my life.” - Grey hair that is super healthy and styled beautifully. Embrace that elegant grey. - Fountain pens. So rare, but when someone pulls a fountain pen out of their handbag/briefcase, it’s instant style points. - A person who clearly understands (1) undertones and (2) colour theory. Monochrome outfits in the same undertone family just screams style. Same with any outfit that encorporates colour theory. - Beautifully bespectacled-both sunglasses and prescriptions. - Anything heirloom. Grandpa’s watch and scarf. Mom’s evening bag. A vintage blazer. A thrifted brooch. Anything that shows a deep connection to bygone quality is a win for style points. Thanks for sharing!
Most of my wardrobe is vintage or thrifted. I love finding unique or quirky pieces. Vintage clothing tends to be so much better quality and really lasts. I work in a professional setting and my suits, blouses & button ups are all thrifted or vintage. I think it is how you mix & match the pieces that makes them look fresh & modern.
Love the diversity of examples… dressing chic/ being chic can often be very nuanced and an exclusive club. Your examples helped to broaden what chic really is! Thank you!
I love a sharp cat-eye glasses frame. As a prescription-glasses girlie since elementary school, I learned by the time I was in my teens that I might as well have a cool frame if I had to wear glasses for the rest of my life! Fast-forward 20+ years, I have 3 pairs that I use as 'permanent accessory' and they are different colours with a nice cat-eye shape that I can use for contrast or harmony with my outfits 🥰
Contrast dressing screams cool & chic to me. I especially love masculine pieces (shoes in particular, like loafers, brogues, monk strap shoes) juxtaposed with feminine elements. I'm also a huge fan of retro elements in an outfit. Mostly though it's how a person carries themselves- good posture & confidence in their outfit choice is all that really matters.
In the last year I have been thrifting more and more. I have found great jeans, a sweater and the ultimate find-shoes that aren't very worn or brand new. Where I live it seems thrifted is much more unique than fast fashion.
Yes! I’ve decided that I’m not going to buy new for fall. I love to thrift, and can’t wait to see what I find. I am tempted by that Kotn sweater though!
I wish there were half way decent thrift stores in Toronto. And buying online ends up with shipping, duties, taxes etc costing more than something that's actually new.
Christina, I look forward to making my Sunday breakfast and sitting down and watching your videos every week. Thank you for always showing us INCLUSIVE style examples. Bravo on a video that was so diverse in your display of models. Old, young, large, with glasses and in wheelchairs you have it all. Real women looking fabulous 😊
Thank you for the video! 💐 The last point: "wearing what you love" ❤ my favourite! Also, what makes you chic is healthy and neat look: good skincare, clean clothes and shoes, just personal hygiene makes you look fantastic! 😅
I admire those (of any gender) who can really wear a hat with confidence in any season, where it looks natural on them and not like a costume. Same with unique ways of wearing scarves. Fun topic!
I love all types of hats and always have, but the unique scarves elude me so I do admire those who wear them well! Especially a small scarf tied at the neck. I tried it once and felt like the rich man from Gilligan's Island TV show lol
I used to think of "all black" as my signature thing, but now it's white pants/jeans. I don't know why it feels so much more unexpected to me, but I just love it. I feel the same way about shoulder sweaters and cool glasses that you do.
I've had the good fortune to have lived all over the world for my work. I love to incorporate items I've picked up in various places to my everyday style. Silk scarves, jewelry, shoes...it somehow works with my overall classic pieces.
Monochrome styling and using different accessories is a tip I've been using and loving for quite some time now, but I do feel like it can be fun sometimes to break familiarity by experimenting with different patterns or textures! I recently used some birthday money to get myself a wristlet that has a monogram pattern, which is something I've hesitated to dive into for many years because of me being more into quiet luxury. I'm honestly really excited to see how I can style it up with what's in my wardrobe! 😄
Great video! I will add, every now and then I wear something outside of my comfort zone. It can really help me decide if I want to incorporate it into my style or if it wasn’t me. Project wear everything can be better than letting it sit in my closet and not making a decision.
Just discovered your channel and loved how the examples you used are really diverse in terms of body shape, race/ethnicity and inclusive of those in wheelchairs etc. Love that you're really thinking about the content and your message and seamlessly working inclusivity in. I've just started layering necklaces as I have quite a few silver ones. I keep all my basics as they will all come round again eventually. I've got a red long sleeved Tee from a charity shop and a few brown suede pieces from years ago that are now at the front of my wardrobe or shoe rack, ready to wear. I have a lot of charity shop stuff that people always ask where I got them from. Good for the bank balance and good for the planet. Thanks, I really love your videos x
This video came up in my feed. I’ve never seen you before but I loved how you presented this information. I agreed with everything you said so I just subscribed.
Yes to a lot of these - but especially to the glasses! 🤓 I went to my eye doctor and said, “I NEED glasses.” He said, “No you don’t. Your Lasik is working perfectly.” Well, let’s just say - I walked out with a Rx for correction - ah’hem for added fashion in my wardrobe. 😆 haha.
I've thrifted exclusively since 1980. The only garments I buy brand new are underware and socks. It's been a great, affordable way to learn what designers work for my body type. While #9 may look chic, I hate draping a jacket or coat over the sholders because it limits your movements, it's not practical. For that kind or look, I prefer a garment that's made to be draped, like a shawl or a cape.
I find the oversized structured items can drape quite nicely! The structure of the shoulders keeps it in place, but due to the larger size it still allows movement. I can't seem to figure out how to use cardigans, sweaters the same way without it looking too preppy.
I am glasses obsessed. It’s bad. I have 50-60 pairs of prescription spectacles. 🤓 I order online and there is a specific company where I have found 13$ frames and it cost me only 10$ for my prescription (and my prescription is strong) so I have bright bold colours to match my scrubs; pink, purple, orange, neon green & blue. Then I have cooler more sophisticated ones. I have crazy large bold ones, neutral ones. It’s definitely my thing. I keep my outfits pretty simple and also repeat a lot because my accessories is definitely my eyewear!
I just bought a couple pairs of blingy ballet flats. I pair them with slightly flared ankle jeans, narrow straight jeans, trouser jeans. I can wear a cropped cotton tee or any sort of tops. I just love the juxtaposition of casual and bling. I also love wearing blingy jewelries with casual outfits. Wearing a hat or beanie is becoming my style signature in recent years. Wearing a headwear covers my messy hair so that I have one less thing to fuss with (styling my hair). I love your red lips idea. I have been wearing skin color lipstick for a year. Since I don’t usually make my eyes, wearing bold lips may make a good contrast.
@@OpalRavenna I have more be fitted with prescription lenses with the transition coating that allows them to be sunglasses outside and regular prescription glasses indoors and at night
4:19 Caroline Bessette-Kennedy's style was so classic you can wear the outfits she wore prior to when she was killed in 1999 and no one would know the clothes are over 25 years old.
This video has inspired me! I have so many pieces I love already in my wardrobe. I have been loosing weight so I am in between sizes so I am trying to get things tailored and play with what I have and add more accessories so I love that you touched on that we can sometimes focus on more of the clothes vs accessorizing to show case our style ❤
I feel proud when my well intended outfit is mostly thrifted- honestly most of my best pieces are second hand and I love the cost per wear is so minimal
In my area our thrift stores are just :/ but I have gotten to LOVE my local clothes mentor! Then I can avoid the goodwill or savers which are the main options here.
Wow, you really nailed this, Christina! I am loving doing some of the things you mentioned (outfit repeating, monochromatic bring two), but there is lots of inspiration here for new things to try this fall that don’t involve overconsumption! Thank you!
The past two years I bought so much second hand, all my luxury handbags are vintages, and the quality of the hardware and leather were def better on the 90s than those days. Discovered Poshmark/Mercari and also sold some pieces of my closet. The layering is a tough one bc I see so much more odd than chique! I love the monochromatic outfit.
I love your videos! You gather a lot of good info and photos to demonstrate your points. One thing really stuck with me is your last point. I love ppl watching. It’s obvious to me seeing those who put thoughts into dressing. It doesn’t matter if they have style or not, just that they dress to present something they love or please someone they love. Getting dressed everyday isn’t mindless. There are ways to reduce planning and confusing. I think this is why many ppl stick to certain style or pieces. Over time it may become their signature. One lady in our chorus wears off shoulder tops 90% of the time. It became her. She looks great and loves the style. We love her for being stylish into her 70s.
I don't necessarily consider myself 'chic' but 2 things I've always been are bold and confident, and as a result I get compliments galore whether I'm a plus-sized college student with a pixie cut or a mid sized 40-something with waist length hair. I've never been afraid of color and diving into any look that feels "me"! Life's too short to choose boring glasses, bags, the most beige and bland wardrobe...
Great video. I thrift as a hobby as I have very expensive taste 🙃and I find I can get the quality I desire at a fraction of the price. Plus you are right you can find unique pieces. Quality of garments have certainly declined in the last few decades so buying vintage is often the wiser choice.
This was such a great video and I think most of what you listed is also what I find really chic ☺️ linking with the concept of ease that you mentioned, if the clothes or shoes end up wearing you (rather than you wearing them) or you have to constantly fidget because something is too tight, too short or too uncomfortable or a heel is too high or unstable, then it looses a lot of chic points ... something I learnt from my dressmaker mum when I was always asking her to tighten or shorten clothes she'd make for me when she still sewed 😊
Loved this video. You really articulate the chic elements from a regular wear everyday style. You articulated chic very well. It’s the sense of ease and effortlessness for sure
Doc martens or combat boots with almost anything but especially with a dress or something where they’re also wearing a blazer (and I agree with over the shoulders). Every time I see that I’m like 👏🏻. So chic 🙌🏻.
I used to struggle styling a white button down i felt it was too work wear to wear casually until i bought the right one a white linen shirt changed the game for me the fabric of the shirt really matters and linen makes everything more casual instantly by nature and it made me think more about the fabric my clothes are made from during tge styling process ❤
You are sheik! Loving this video for sure. So many good ideas to add style without a ton of effort. Walked downtown Chicago today and saw so much “easy” style….. wide legs and sneaks with simple tank and a bold necklace! Leopard skirts and sneaks with a tshirt. So many ideas and way to keep it simple and stylish.
I agree 100% on the red lip (personally I do a bright pink), the statement eyeglasses, the signature jewelry (I wear my wedding day present necklace everyday and still get compliments on it years later). I think those things are all especially timeless.
This is exactly the same philosophy I have with fashion! I love my thrifted pieces because they are so often rare and unique. Thank you for sharing 🧚♀️❤️🐝🇦🇺
I'm really attracted to a put together look that appears effortless. I hope to master that look someday. At the same time, I really love artsy over the top makeup, hair, and edgy accessories. I don't have the time for layering jewelry... but I like the look.
I am so happy to see big bags making a comeback. While I like a small bag for certain things, there are just times when a big bag is the best choice! I too love scarves and bag "bling" but I don't like it when people get too carried away and it takes away from the bag itself or just seems like they threw a bunch of junk on the bag because they thought it was the thing to do. To me, being chic is about being an individual and not being afraid to wear something that isn't on trend at the moment, but managing to pull it off combined with classic pieces.
In reference to your point about jackets/blazers that are thrown over the shoulder: it feels very, "this is not the main attraction" while being very much an extra punch of attraction. It's almost like an updated version of a long cape the main character might wear right before they throw it off to reveal the "dress" or the "jewel" or even the "confidence." That's my interpretation of the jacket being thrown over the shoulder of the outfit.
What are some things that when you see it you go “ohhh… that’s chic 😍”?
Simple outfit, hair in a bun, fantastic rings
When someone wears a belt like you do here (that end tuck situation) or a belt with a blazer (getting the right weight/balance)!
Cleaned clothes
Yes, love the belt and have been trying to find one. Whee is your black one from?

I’ve never been chic or wanted to be chic, but it’s always so fun to see what people think is stylish!
Me too!!!
New subscriber here looking to elevate my style 🫶🏾
I went to my eye doctor and said, “I NEED glasses.” He said, “No you don’t. Your Lasik is working perfectly.” Well, let’s just say - I walked out with a Rx for correction - ah’hem for added fashion in my wardrobe. 😆 haha.
I really loved this ! Also loved that you showed pictures of people of different ages, sizes and races !!
What website do you use!
I was wondering the same thing
Tip: For the past 10 years, I've chosen my frames from the sunglasses section. I get stopped all the time.😂
I do this too! Only way to get bolder more unique looking glasses for much less!
To you have them fitted with prescription lenses?
@@OpalRavenna I have more be fitted with prescription lenses with the transition coating that allows them to be sunglasses outside and regular prescription glasses indoors and at night
@@TheMagwade thanks!
Thanks so much for the diversity in your example photos!
Wow, you really nailed this, Christina! I am loving doing some of the things you mentioned (outfit repeating, monochromatic bring two), but there is lots of inspiration here for new things to try this fall that don’t involve overconsumption! Thank you!
Hats, scarves, capes, glorious shoes-that’s it for me !!
One of my favorite videos on style!! Breaking out of the mold, individualistic, great pictures… just fantastic.
One of your best videos 💯🙏🏽
Love your energy in this video.. The content is great and I appreciate your effort in finding such great examples to illustrate your tips.
I loved this video. Great examples! I'd add hats; they can be so chic. Thanks for sharing.
I always love your content and I found your use of diversity wonderful.
I cannot agree more with all your ideas about being chic and stylish! love your content. You look amazing!!!
I love these observations! Especially the outfit repeating and the ease. Thank you for sharing!
I took a few screenshots of some of the cool outfits you showed. Thanks for the photos with great examples of what you were describing.
Doc martens or combat boots with almost anything but especially with a dress or something where they’re also wearing a blazer (and I agree with over the shoulders). Every time I see that I’m like 👏🏻. So chic 🙌🏻.
Juxtaposed styles are really stylish to me 😊
I used to struggle styling a white button down i felt it was too work wear to wear casually until i bought the right one a white linen shirt changed the game for me the fabric of the shirt really matters and linen makes everything more casual instantly by nature and it made me think more about the fabric my clothes are made from during tge styling process ❤
Lots of great inspiration in this video! Thank you Christina!
Thanks so much for a great and informative video. I have not watched you much, but will do in the future. I think your ideas are spot on!!
I just love your content. Thank you Christina! You have so much style combined with common sense and great life hacks.
watching and rewatching Christina 😍 GREAT video, love it thank you 🤗
You are sheik!
So chic when your videos represent a whole range of bodies *chefs kiss*!
Loved this! Interesting, in depth observations 🙂
Great video! And lovvvve this look on you!!
That was a fun video. Thanks!
You’ve really impacted my style and my shopping experience Christina. I love your channel. Thank you❤️
Love seeing another woman dressing for herself wherever it is, supermarket, street, work wherever. Makes my day.
I agree 100% on the red lip (personally I do a bright pink), the statement eyeglasses, the signature jewelry (I wear my wedding day present necklace everyday and still get compliments on it years later). I think those things are all especially timeless.
I find a panama hat very chic - on a woman or a man. And berets, too.
Hi Christina I love your channel a try to watch every week. I was wondering if you could share your black belt source please. Thank you so much
This is exactly the same philosophy I have with fashion! I love my thrifted pieces because they are so often rare and unique.
Thank you for sharing
🧚♀️❤️🐝🇦🇺
A Nice Pixie Cut!!!! Just the Cut itself , whether curled or not
So real, loved it
The most fun video! Love it!
Love love love this video !As resonated with me so much in how I like to dress !
Your trident necklace is adorable🇺🇦🥹❤️
Love the models you use in your videos. it's very inclusive. Great topic, another learning definitely going to try some of them.
Perfect timing for fall and winter transitions.
I think you nailed it with the points you made on this video! Kudos!!
Wow! Use your things!! I really love this 🎉
LOVED this video! So interesting! Appreciated your takes.
Thank you!! You cannot talk about the Big Bag without talking about MK Olsen!
Great video. You may have said this but I notice posture and the way someone walks. If they are not self conscious, it makes them seem effortless.
Loved this video. I now work for Belgian company and it's a combination of blazers and trainers. All of your ideas were spot on.
Love to see the diversity in your example photos!!
How love how inclusive your inspirations are❤
Hmm…I had never thought about how repeating a look contributes. I have to agree!
I'm really attracted to a put together look that appears effortless. I hope to master that look someday. At the same time, I really love artsy over the top makeup, hair, and edgy accessories. I don't have the time for layering jewelry... but I like the look.
Great video Christina!
That blazer looks fantastic on you
I am so happy to see big bags making a comeback.
Great video, inspiring and fun!!!! And you also look very chic! Love the white blazer.
